Offerings don’t need to be expensive or bought
I’ve noticed throughout the pagan community that there’s a compulsion to associate offerings and their value, with monetary value. Even though so many people on so many platforms have tried their best to bring this to light, I still even find myself questioning if my hymns and natural offerings are enough.
I truly believe that in between religious corruption and capitalism, pagan spaces have been heavily influenced by consumerism: a value that’s so far removed from the origins of our practice. Most of the worshippers in Hellenic polytheism, (and many other pagan practices) are low income! As someone who works two jobs, lives with their working boyfriend AND lives without certain utilities (I have water powered housing), the cost of living is still way too high for the average person.
With limited time, money, and patience, sometimes I just say thank you. Sometimes I just spend some time outside, or find cool leaves and those offerings go to my deities. Pinecones, bottle caps, cute flowers. All of these are real examples of offerings I’ve made.
Using affordable materials has drastically changed my relationship with the Gods… it’s improved by so much! I feel closer, down to earth with these beings, and I’m able to afford my groceries doing so. I sing a hymn in the car or say thank you, and though it doesn’t require much, they appreciate it the same (if not more so)!
May the Gods look down and smile at their worshippers, especially the ones who need them the most.

I’m thankful for Hermes and travel, and I feel him when I drive, or am at the farmers market.
I’m grateful for Apollo and music, philosophy and how he shines through each rhythm and beat in the music I listen to.
I’m appreciative of Artemis and the independence she brings me, strength and the courage that passes through when standing up for what I believe in. The connection with wildlife and instincts, the empowerment I feel from her as a woman, all of it I owe to her.
The Gods look at us worshippers and smile, knowing they are treasured.

Cute photographs of my babies (basically).
Hey, y'all, I am immensely stressed, so I will be taking a break from posting for a little bit. I appreciate that so many people are finding my posts helpful recently. I'll be back on after things calm down, not sure how long - maybe a week or two. Moving has taken a serious toll on me. Take care, everyone. 🧡
P.S. If anyone wants to send me cute pet or animal pics, I would greatly appreciate it, actually.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that my gods do care about me. Even if it’s the same way I care about my cat, or my baristas day. Some days I wake up and think to myself that maybe, even if I am devout, they don’t care. Obviously that’s wrong and I think that’s something I have to work on
Even if you can’t see or hear em, they love you

"How do I know if a deity is reaching out?" "How do I know if an ancestor is reaching out?" "How do I know if a spirit guide is reaching out?"
Have you ever considered... reaching out yourself? Setting up an altar and just going for it? Just ask?

"Hellenism" and "Hellenismos" are not appropriate terms. They refer to the entire cluster of Hellenic (Greek) identity. The religion is just "Hellenic polytheism". Your bio sounds like you're practicing how to be Greek /gen not /neg
I was unaware that Hellenismos was not a term used for Hellenic polytheism. I was taught Hellenismos was a body of humanistic and classical ideals associated with ancient Greece and including reason, the pursuit of knowledge and the arts, moderation, civic responsibility, and bodily development along with devotion to or imitation of ancient Greek thought, customs, or styles. Now knowing that using Hellenismos as a term for my religion is offensive, I’ll change my bio! Thanks for letting me know!

Hello! How do you know if a goddess/god comes to you that they want to be your patron Vs if they want to help you in the moment?
Great question! Throughout the years I’ve seen quite a few definitions of the term patron, and I love how blessings can muddle the lines between a worshiper and a devotee. I’ve asked for help from a wide array of deities, and usually the Gods seem happy to help! I have also had little blessings happen that I attribute to a deity. A few starter questions I’ve used to figure out me and the Gods relationship are these lil guys:
Are you connected to a part of their domain? (I’m a devotee of Apollon and have had a history of musical interest)
Do they help you often? Or do they help in dire circumstances?
Do you feel a connection with them when working with/praying to them?
Do you primarily go to them in a vulnerable state?
Of course you aren’t required to say yes to any or all of these to have a patron! These are just steps that helped me. The most important things to think about are your feeling of connection, and the frequency of the help. I started feeling a strong connection with Hermes when I got my driver’s license. When I noticed that little positive things were coming my way, (especially when I prayed and gave offerings in return) I became a devotee. Of course I’ve had extremely vulnerable experiences with him too, but,
It is your choice whether or not you consider a deity your patron, and the most important part is that you feel like both parties value the connection you share!
TLDR: Becoming a devotee is definitely part of a mindset and is not reliant on a God or Goddess choosing you! It is simply giving love to a deity you feel connected to, and usually in a more formal way. Hope that helps! 💚

This!!!! Personally I don’t have a lot of time for physical offerings in my day to day life, so every other day when I get in my car I just say: “Thank you Hermes”. As long as you love them deep down, and respect them, most Gods are super chill, (and mostly just need a thank you) 🙏🏼🩵
It's my personal belief that just about every beginning pagan and polytheist who worries about upsetting their gods if they don't give enough offerings should go one or two months without giving any offerings but still politely ask their gods for assistance.
Why in the hell would I say this? It's simple, dear friends: it could hopefully show them that, hey, gods are actually a lot more chill and willing to help than mainstream paganism and polytheism would have us believe.
The gods aren't going to devour your soul for asking for their help. It's my opinion that they actually appreciate being valued and trusted enough by you for you to rely on them in your times of need. You don't need to feel guilty for asking for help - that's the main point of this post.

Bro literally all the gods deserve our respect, and to ignore that or treat them lesser than is idiotic to say the least. Ares is a god that not only represents war but liberation. To fight back against oppressors, to guard what is sacred to you. He’s been a father figure, he’s a leader, and on top of it, and Ares isn’t “war for wars sake.” Ares is the embodiment of defiance, bravery, and honestly, a true protector if I’ve ever seen one.
And not only that, but it is disrespectful to the warriors and troops of the past who died in his honor, or have served in his honor. Every god is important, every god has value. Even if you don’t like them, to criticize a God based on our current societal standard also rips them from their cultural context and invalidates the reasons these gods were worshipped.
May Ares guide us to protect what we love, and to help us break free from the ones holding us back.
I just saw a r/greekmythology post asking people who their least favorite god is and my dumbass decided to read people’s responses as if I didn’t know full well that it would make me upset.
I wasn’t even surprised by most of the answers - even I used to hold a lot of those same (uneducated) opinions - but this…
Tumblr media
…has me genuinely sad now. Ares has played a major role in my life that I will forever be grateful for. Not only that, but he’s passionate, protective, and a certified feminist. It seriously breaks my heart how he’s constantly made out to be some kind of villain.
Anyways, this is now an Ares appreciation post. Everyone please add some much needed love for Ares
