Happy World Book Day! 📖❤️
Couldn't let this day pass without a special post from your truly, the bookish amigurumi artist.
If you're wondering why there's a dragon in there, it's because today is also Saint George, you know, the one who defeated the dragon, and in some parts of Spain it's tradition to gift your loved ones a rose or a book (that's why Darcy is holding a rose too!)
All of the patterns are designed by me except the dragon, that's from aradiyatoys

Important crochet tips:
If you want to do it perfectly and learn all the stitches: go for it! That’s how you like to do it. You will make the nicest things of all.
If making it perfectly stressed you out or causes you to quit on projects: make it approximate. But just make it!!and enjoy it however it comes out.
If you want to sell crocheted items: they still don’t have to be perfect!! they can be weird little guys with bumps on them. Just don’t mislead with your photos or claim things that aren’t there. That’s very bad.
If you feel like items to sell need to be perfect: good for you! Make that excellent product. Rest in that peace of knowing that your items are flawless and the highest quality.
But don’t. Don’t. Do NOT.
Quit on your hobby when people are critical assholes. There will always be gripers and grumps.
And PLEASE do not begrudge the perfectionists, or the for-fun imperfectionists their sales or mode of art.
If you see very crappily made amigurumis with stupid-high asking price? Okay let the customer decide.
In time, their skill will go up, or the price will go down, or heck it just makes your own stuff look better. Just give them a good ol’ thumbs up, and glhf.

The 29th of this month is my fourth anniversary as a crochet artist, so I'm thinking about celebrating it revealing my latest bookish amigurumi. What do you think? Who would you like to see in amigurumi form?

I've been keeping this amigurumi a secret for more than a month but I can finally show it to you! This was a very special gift for my little cousin, who took her first communion yesterday. She does ballet and loves it, so I crocheted her as a ballerina 🩰
The amigurumi have a couple of accessories that you'll see in future posts ❤️

One of my best friends came out as trans a couple of years ago. She's always coming to my house because we're neighbours, so my family was one of the first people to know.
Now I was pretty sure my parents will accept her with open arms and make the change smoothly because I've been rallying for LGBTQIA+ rights since I was a teen (way before I knew I was queer myself), but I've got this uncle... he comes a lot to my house and knows my friend, but he's not the most progressive person out there, doesn't understand what trans or queer means, and I was a bit reticent to tell him. But I did, one day I just went for it, told him her name and asked him to use she/her when talking to her. My uncle just straight up absorbed that information without a single doubt or question or remark. He just asked me to repeat her name and then he repeated it again under his breath to make sure he wouldn't forget it. Not only that, but he asked both my friend and I what could he do to help, he was genuinely worried my friend could be having a rough time and receiving hate.
So moral of the story is you don't know where you can find an ally, even if they need a bit of help and encouragement. The small steps are as important as the big steps, because those small steps are the foundation for the rest of the way.
“stop congratulating cis allies for doing the bare minimum” NO!!! i want to encourage speaking out and being on trans people’s side!!! stop being assholes to people just trying to support you and give them room to grow!!!

A couple of weeks ago, while I was helping a friend, I stumbled on a few photos of Nick and Charlie amigurumis, freakishly similar to my own, to the point that the photos were even taken from the same perspective. The post was from a year after I showed my Nick and Charlie amigurumis for the first time, so you can guess that I was really distraught when I saw it, even more so after I realised that this crocheter's account was way bigger than mine.
I'm not naïve, I know I'm not the only crocheter in the world who made amigurumis depicting Nick and Charlie, I really do. And I know my style is not super original and distinct and that other crocheters work in a similar fashion to me. And that's fine, really, but even in those instances, when each crocheter is doing their own thing, it shows. And in this case it was really obvious that this person had replicated my work.
I decided that the best course of action was talking to them privately and trying to solve it as peacefully as possible. Thankfully it went all smoothly, the crocheter admitted that they replicated my work and offered to delete their posts. Honestly, I could cry with relief when everything was resolved, but it got me thinking.
I can understand to a certain degree that if there's no pattern available and you really want that amigurumi you may be tempted to just copy it using the posted photos, but it's incredibly disrespectful. It just shows a lack of appreciation for the time and dedication and skill poured into every amigurumi, which it's even more staggering coming from someone who knows the craft, who understands how hard it is (or should, anyway). And if you do because you really really want that amigurumi, don't post it on your socials where the original designer can see it, and more than anything, don't benefit economically from that work that doesn't belong to you.
And honestly? It would be way cooler if you just tried to do it on your own way. You like my work and want something similar? Awesome, you can try your hand at crocheting the same characters and with the same general vibe as me, and I'm sure the end result will be different to mine because that's the beauty of craft! Two people can follow the exact same pattern step by step and the final amigurumis will still be different! So take a chance! Try to do it on your own and not copying some photos!
But let me add more. If you don't feel like doing all this and designing and that stuff, try to talk to the original crocheter first. Ask for permission to draw inspiration from them and then give them credit, a very important detail. I don't mind this in the slightest as long as you talk to me first and it's for personal use! I can't talk for the rest of the community, but as a general rule, I think it's a good idea to follow the "ask for permission" bit.
And again, one more time, always with credit. As I said in the first post, we're here to help and uplift each other.
*inhales*
Don't copy your fellow crocheter's work. We're here to help and uplift each other, not to steal a smaller crocheter's amigurumi and hope nobody will notice
When you do this, you not only show how disrespectful you are to the copied crafter, but to the community as a whole too. So just don't, respect yourself as a crocheter and extend that respect to everybody else involved.
Thank you.

I just lost my ebook. Inside my own house. This is a new low for adult me 🤣
Kinda reminds me of that time when I was twelve and I went to sleep with my watch on my wrist and I woke up without it and then we never found it. Most plausible hypothesis is that I threw it away while sleepwalking and then bye bye new watch that was a gift from my grandma
I laugh at this anecdote now, but I was so deeply traumatised back then that I got into the habit of taking off my watch every night before falling asleep

I think I'm going to try and be more active around here so I'd love to follow more artists and crafters (especially crocheters!!!). So if you have any blog recommendations or do you want us to follow each other, please let me know ❤️
I'm still kinda getting the feel of tumblr and have trouble finding people to talk and bond and that stuff lol
And if you find this post in your dashboard, hi!!! I'm Piti and I'm an amigurumi artist! I mostly crochet characters from my favourite books (which comprise the majority of my posts here) but I do crochet other amigurumis like cute animals and princesses that I will be uploading slowly ☺️

Hey there!!
I was wondering if you could help me out a little bit! I already saw that you don't sell your crochet patterns, so I won't ask about that, but I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks for making dolls like the large Alex and Henry you made!
I'm a senior in college and I have a thesis project that I have to make. I'm considering making a crochet stop-motion animation for it!
Do you have any methods or tutorials you follow in order to make them so poseable and detailed? I noticed in the WIP photos that they have a wire skeleton! I'm also super impressed by the clothing and hair!
If you don't have any tips or anything, that's alright! I understand! I just thought I'd ask! 🙂
Hi! Of course, I'm going to try to explain everything to the best of my abilities ☺️ If you have more doubts afterwards, you can message me anytime you want!
I can't really point you to any tutorials because at this point I just do my own thing and in the case of Alex and Henry I designed the body pattern taking into consideration that the clothes will be independent pieces. Most patterns that I've seen directly crochet the body as if it is wearing the clothes, like, for example if you want your doll to wear a red sweater, the torso and arms are crocheted in red. I think that's easier and the results are nice as well. My chibi amigurumis are crocheted like that, they have less mobility because they're really small, but that same technique in a bigger amigurumi will give you both the mobility and the advantage of not having to crochet so many pieces.
Now some tips for the mobility:
— A wire skeleton, as you've mentioned! It's not a perfect solution because sometimes the wire isn't strong enough to keep weird poses, but it helps! This video tutorial is in Spanish, but it's really visual and it shows how to add a wire skeleton. Honestly it was the best video that I saw back in the day, when I was looking for tutorials for this same thing.
— You can use pipe cleaners instead of wire as well, although they're weaker.
— Don't stuff the arms.
— Not too much stuffing on the legs/waist so there's enough room when you pose the amigurumi. Just a little bit less, enough for the piece to be firm but have mobility. If your legs are thin, don't stuff them, like with the arms.
— Now, another perk to crocheting the body as if it was already clothed is that it helps with mobility too. More layers of clothing means the movement will be more hindered.
— Crochet the head as an independent piece. I'll put on a couple of pics so it's easier to understand, but basically what you need to do is, once you've reached your desired width for the neck, keep crocheting rounds with the exact same amount of stitches until you have a tube. When finished, make sure to stuff it very tightly (or put pipe cleaners inside) and close it. After that, to crochet the head, start by creating a similar tube, so the neck tube fits inside the head tube. Once you've got the size you need for your tube it's only a matter of crocheting the rest of the head as you would normally.

(I'm deeply sorry for that awful, awful drawing, I just thought it would help illustrate my point better but I'm not especially good at drawing on my phone)
— Use pins and skewers (like the ones for food). You can edit them out afterwards and that's probably the best tip because an amigurumi is a plushie and its mobility is never going to be really great 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These photos are unedited, that's why they're so dark but ANYWAYS, see the skewers on their backs in the first photo? And the pin keeping their hands together in the second? Think of them as aids for your purpose. Alex and Henry can stand on their own if you manage to find the perfect balance but oooof it IS frustrating. The amount of times I've managed to pose one and just then the other falls flat on his little face... AWFUL.
And for the clothes... it depends a bit on what you're crocheting I guess????? Although I highly recommend to not be like me and get obsessed with making everything in a single piece, sometimes it works better when the details are crocheted apart and then sewn or glued to the main piece. Like for example, for the jackets, the body is one piece and the neck is a different one, I just sewn them together with a row of single crochets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also most of the time the easier way to do something is the best way. Since crochet have certain limitations, it's important to keep in mind that sometimes it's better to simplify. This depends on the size of the amigurumi and the size of the piece, but yep, as one of my uni professors used to say: parsimoooooooony (or follow the Ockham's razor).
Another thing!!! Learn some basic embroidery techniques and how to do surface slip stitches, they can go a long way to make a piece seem more detailed! And use other materials like felt too!
I can't think of anything else right now. I tried to be as clear as I could but it's kinda hard to explain all of this when English is not your first language 😅 Anyway, I hope you find these tips interesting and you can always ask me again anytime!

Hi! It's not Wednesday anymore where I am from, but anyways, we're here to play and have fun! Thank you for the tag @zwiazdziarka ☺️
So this week has been a bit slow because I've prioritised spending time with my family. But!!! I've got an interesting wip that I want to share with you (and it's a video!)
It's a new book character I'm working on. Do you want to try and guess who it may be??
I must be honest, I haven't read this character's book. One of my best friends asked me to crochet it and I was like why not? From time to time it's kinda fun to crochet something that you wouldn't have thought of on your own. Stay tune to see my progress if you want!
I'm tagging @spotsandsocks

"Let me give him a little moustache" 🖍️
It's been a really long time since I decided to do a more elaborated(ish?) photoedition and honestly i've been debating for a few weeks now if I should post it or not. I think it's really fun and the result is pretty nice, but I've been feeling down about my art lately, like putting in the extra effort of taking and editing this type of photos on top of everything else it's just not worth it. They're my favourite type of photos, this silly montages using different amigurumis and other resources and props, but more often than not they're the least liked on social media so... it's conflicting. And my still ongoing mental breakdown is definitely not helping either 😂
Sorry for the rambling, this is the only space where I feel safe enough to actually speak up about some of the things in my head although it's not very on par with my cute content. Anyway, the good news is that I'm investigating about crocheting clothes to make more garments for Henry and Alex and I've got a few ideas that I really hope will work out. See ya!
