All health comes from a calm and peaceful mind. This doesn’t mean we are in a calm state 24 hours a day. But a kind advice is to take it a little easier. You can’t please everyone, so why stress yourself about it? Not everything is meant to work out the way you want it to, and all you can do is to be more at ease with it. Sometimes life gives you lemons, other times it gives you roses. If you look for more health, remember that anything that slows down your heart rate is healthy. This can be: A nice walk. A swim. A prayer. Meditation. Yoga. Whatever, you like to do 🙏. And if Yoga is something you want to try, then go for it. Try different teachers, and see who you personally connect with. Never say “I’m not good at yoga, because I’m not flexible”. Yoga is not about becoming flexible, it’s about becoming well 🙏. You are great at yoga because you want to feel well. Use yoga to get well. Use meditation or prayer to silence your mind and become well. Spend 5-10 minutes to slow down your breath. Health is what you need. Gentleness is what you need. The truth of the matter is very simple: 1. Without your health you have nothing 2. Yoga is wellness and keeps you vibrant all your life 3. Yoga is super simple and everyone can begin. Just don’t choose advanced sessions if you practice once in a while. Keep it simple and real for you. You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga. Just start. But find a gentle beginners class and grow slowly. It takes time to find a style and a teacher you align with but don’t loose hope. Today you have so much to choose from, which means a lot of low quality too, so watch out but don’t loose hope. Yoga is great, but not every yoga instructor is great. 4. No, yoga doesn’t mean you have to shake you body for 20 min to find your inner kundalini light. It doesn’t mean you have to wear 50 malas or a white rope or change your name to shanti manti. Yoga is simplicity. It’s health. It’s inner wellness. It’s Union, Love, Power, Greatness, Strength. Mental strength, especially. But if your energy is competitive or pushy, or if your focus is on others, you have lost it. Yoga is softness and respect of your body. It’s mental health and focus. Yes, focus. And this can be difficult for most people nowadays, because with all the distractions around us, most human beings can’t even sit in a simple yoga stretch for 2 min without picking their toes or looking around 🥳. If that’s you, work on your focus 🥳. Work on your presence 🥳. If you can’t focus or be present in yoga, you can’t focus or be present with your work, the one you drink coffee with or the lover next to you. Nope, Yoga is not about headstands or handstands as most people don’t really need that, and your body isn’t meant to do headstand it handstand in the very begin, so don’t worry. Your body needs care, respect, love and gentleness. You need to feel better and feel pain free. No pain, no gain is not yoga, and it isn’t health. It’s insanity, and you don’t need that. I feel the best when I’m happy ❤️. And overall, I’m a happy person who likes to laugh and have fun. But I’m also able to get angry. When I feel hurt, misunderstood or someone isn’t clear with him/herself, I will express myself honestly, sometimes with sadness, other times with frustration or with an instant anger reaction. At least I’m not hiding my emotions. I prefer to be honest and clear, and get it out. People who say they never argue or never discuss or react, aren’t passionate human beings in my opinion. When we live with love and emotions, we react. But we can always learn to become better and understand ourselves better. And I am always open and willing to improve myself. I’m far from perfect. It’s all work in progress, right? But we should never allow anyone to disrespect us or put us down. If something or someone isn’t behaving well to you, say it out loud. People who are emotionless and cold, have no love in their hearts. People who ignore are soul-less. Leave such people in their own misery. If they can’t change and become better, they never will. Speak up. Communicate. Love. Share. People who never react, are robots in my opinion. How do we find peace within ourselves? I believe we need to find our own peace, and we can only find our own peace when we are comfortable enough to be in our own company, and content to be in our own space. When we are able to do that we can share and grow with other people, without being afraid or anxious about being on our own. The last days I’ve been going into the Medina, old town Marrakech, just before the breaking of the fast. Yesterday and today I didn’t feel like having the typical “Ftour”, so I asked the waiter to prepare me a mixed salad instead. No one was at the restaurant, just me. I took a date with me and put it beside the plate. I told the staff that I only want the food once the prayer begins and everyone breaks their fast. The woman in the kitchen prepared my meal, the kind waiter who knows me, served the food, and I didn’t touch it until the prayer began. I looked at my plate for 25 minutes. Then looked at the view. Then listened to the calm music in the background (slide through the gallery to see), then felt the hunger in my stomach, then closed my eyes when the call to prayer began. I then took a bite of the date first, and chewed really slowly to feel all it’s flavours and texture. It’s incredible how food tastes when you wait for it. The saliva begins to work and even though I felt hungry I couldn’t finish the salad, most probably because I didn’t eat my main meals the last few days and my stomach doesn’t have room for much food these days. Somehow the energy of the Ramadan has affected my energy, which is a surprise to me. In Ayurveda we say that where we live is what we breathe. And the energy around us is what we absorb. I am sure that’s what has happened to me the last days. Now, I really enjoyed this evening and yesterday’s evening with the same view. And on some other evenings I’ve enjoyed to be with loving people and eat a traditional Moroccan “Ftour” (the meal people have when breaking their fast). To eat alone and go out on your own in this time, takes a bit of courage. But the peace is what I value the most. Peace is what we all need in order to feel ourselves. To feel our food. Peaceful Yoga moments for your health and well-being 🙏. Can everybody practice Yoga? Yes. With the right style and program, anyone can enjoy Yoga, and feel the benefits, both physically and mentally. Here on one of the mats, a lovely woman (78 years old), and her daughter, are practicing Yoga together. And after nearly 3 years, they keep coming back. That itself is beautiful 🙏. I’m making adjustment for the mother, so it suits her ability, and it works perfectly well. If you are scared to try Yoga, don’t be. Try different classes, different teachers, etc. You’ll find what suits you. Yoga isn’t about how flexible you are. It’s not about putting yourself upside down in headstands or handstands. That’s acrobatics, not Yoga.
