one of my favourite moments in the whole of dressrosa arc is this interaction between doflamingo and bellamy:

bellamy is such an interesting asset to doflamingo's character, because he is the contrast as someone who put themself in their situation, unlike doffy and law. most notably, when bellamy approached the DDF (don quioxte doflamingo family) to be an officer, he tells them he is from nortis - a wealthy town in the north blue. trebol points this out, and within the panelling of bellamy proclaiming how it was boring in that stuffy, safe, privileged town, the text is layered over a pensive doflamingo. i personally interpret this as doffy disliking bellamy because he was willing to throw away the thing he so desperately sought; to live a comfortable, privileged life. the only reason doffy is a pirate is because he was cast down from marijoa (the ULTIMATE privilege) so he has to gain power, wealth and status through piracy with the pain of always being on the run. so, when bellamy, a man who has all these things he hungers for and has no reason to live a life astray, approaches him to be apart of his crew, doffy has nothing but distaste for him, which is probably one of the primary reasons why he treated him so badly. doflamingo even says himself; 'you're free now bellamy, like you always have been.' i don't think he just means that bellamy was never fully accepted into the DDF but he also is expressing that bellamy was always free to never chose a life of piracy to gain privilege and power, he was born with it and was never forced to give it up. also another thing that con be inferred is that because bellamy never came from a broken background (like law, baby 5 etc) doffy rules him out as someone he will be able to fully manipulate, even though bellamy expressed utter admiration and devotion towards him; someone you’d think doflamingo would appreciate as an asset. maybe doflamingo supposes that if you have known power and privilege (such as growing up in a wealthy town) you can never be fully controlled because there is and idea of worth still in your mind. doffy recruits people on the basis that there is no banquet large enough for a starving man, that is; there is no love and support enough for one who has been deprived of it (such as many of the younger recruits to the DDF) and bellamy never initially fell into that.
