Grace and kit— COI re read
Just read the Grace and Kit chapters again in Chain of Iron- am I the only one who didn’t feel any ‘romantic’ chemistry with these two?
All Kit can think about is having a partner to do experiments with, his thought process doesn’t extend any further than that.
I think I would love it more if they only developed a deep friendship and partnership. So much of Grace’s life has been dependent of getting men to fall in love with her, she she probably has little interest in romantic love either at this point.

Okay, so looking back at the rest of the shadowhunter chronicles, someone has to kill their parent every three books (that aren’t story collections), e.g. Clary killing Valentine, Gabriel killing Benedict, Julian killing Andrew and Kieran killing the Unseelie King. Which means, that someone has to kill their parent in Chain of Thorns. And, obviously, the only way this makes sense in any is Grace/Jesse killing Tatiana.
Anyway maybe I’m going insane but I think it makes sense.

Chain of Thorns Location Theories
(From a Londoner!)
Hello lovely followers! It’s been forever since I’ve made a theories post, but with Chain of Thorns just around the corner I figured I would use my London Knowledge™️ to predict/explain some locations that Cassie has mentioned and/or are featured in the character cards!
Just a disclaimer: I have lived in the UK for about a year and a half, but I am not British and definitely do not know every corner of this beautiful, absolutely sprawling city. HOWEVER, most of TID/TLH takes place in the London city centre/Zone 1, and I am very, very familiar with these areas. With that caveat, let’s proceed with our first location…
The Gate to Nowhere
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are actually three “gates to nowhere” in London, but the one Cassie has referenced is the one photographed above! Formally known as the York Watergate, this structure was built around 1626 (!!) as a part of York House. It was where the Duke of Buckingham would keep his boat (think of it as the equivalent to your boss’s annoying reserved parking space today).
I know it looks like it is nowhere near the Thames today (it is located in the Embankment Gardens - the Thames is over 100 meters away) but before the Embankment was built in the 1860s, the Thames really did used to swell up that far inland! (Yes, I’m excited!! Yes, I love history!!)
It was meant to be knocked down when the Embankment was built and the District line was created, but long story short they ended up changing their plans and building around it, so they just left it where it was. And guess what?
The Victorians HATED IT.
They thought it was ugly. They thought it was in the way (it was locked in 1890, and no one could pass through save the key holders to the city). They thought it’s columns looked like “the legs of a half-shaved poodle” (Clerkenwell News, 1871). Perhaps most importantly, the Victorians thought it was a “dark portal” which leads from “nothing to nowhere”
Yes, you heard that right. A PORTAL.
My theory is that the gate will serve as a portal in the books. Perhaps it will be the entrance to the theorized shadowy-London? Maybe James will have to pass through the gates to enter Belial’s realm? Maybe Belial will use the gate as a portal through which to unleash a demon invasion upon London?
Let me know your thoughts and theories about the Gate to Nowhere! And let me know if you like these location theory posts - I have three more planned (Paddington Station, from Thomas and Alastair’s card; Chiswick House, from Grace’s cover, and St Paul’s Cathedral, from James’ cover). If there are any other locations you want to cover, feel free to let me know!

Chain of Thornes is so close and I'm spiraling a wee bit so I have another theory I would like to share.
I think Lucie's marks are going to be stripped because of the whole necromancy thing and her and Jesse are going to have to live in exile. She won't be able to be Cordelias parabatai:(
I think that her and Jesse will have kids that will chose to be Shadowhunters and that's how the Blackthorn name lives on.
It would be so sad but so full circle- like Will and Cecily's parents.

I’m pretty sure if Sona really dies Alastair will be the one to look after the child. Not only because he’s older than Cordelia, but also because in TSC wiki it’s said he’s the ancestor of Emma and had a child:
Tumblr media
So, maybe he adopts, or maybe he just raises his sibling (Julian vibes). Thomas of course would be helping him as much as he could. Still I’m hoping Sona doesn’t die because *pain*

rereading secrets of blackthorn hall, here's a list of details that didn't sit right with me and seem potentially foreshadow-y:
Matthew not having a death date
Matthew's flask being in the wall of the tavern, since it seems that it's a more expensive one. Perhaps he left it before leaving for Paris.
One of Alastair's daggers being in a weaponry cache, when it's obvious it's an heirloom type item that should have been passed down, even if it meant it had to go down Cordelia's line.
How did Thomas's diary make it to Cirenworth?
How did James and Cordelia's things end up buried under Blackthorn Hall, especially since it's said he lived on Curzon street and implied that that's where he stayed after TLH? Why would Cordelia bury the scabbard, doesn't seem like her?
Tatiana's connection to those objects outside of it just being those people versus her in the general fight that's happening. Did Tatiana choose those objects or was it pure luck? If she chose them, how did she get them?
The sensor pointing out all those objects, and once again why are so many heirloom objects forgotten or left behind.
Anything with Faerie and Kit's powers but that's not really subtle just things to note, like Kit being able to shoot the gun.

Cot death(s)? - Kids
Just putting thoughs on the record on who may die by my logic (could be very wrong). Also might be fun to for me to check later when cot is released (if I'm not drowning in tears!). Spoilers for previous books obviously.
Okay so I'm assuming when cc says someone we love dies she means a TLH character, however TID characters could be fair game:
James &Cordelia: are fine I'm fairly confident they r main characters
Lucie: could die/ marks stripped all that stuff but tbh I think worst case scenario is that she fleas with Jesse somewhere for life. I don't think cc would do more damage to poor Jesse.
Jesse: same as above, seriously he is killed, raised and then killed ? Nah. However he still could be exiled or something etc.
Matthew: tbh he is set up for something to happen to him, we don't get povs(he's thinking things apparently) and has no love interest (also not saying he needs one). But anything could happen 🤷‍♂️
Christopher: see I've debated this and whilst could be easier to kill off, after him getting injured in ChOG I'm not so sure ( i have a rule that if their life has been threatened once it can't or shouldn't be again) cuz it could be *slightly* cheap.
Grace: i have no clue, i can't even say her presence on the cover will save her! She will have a big role I'm sure. If i had to pick a side maybe live because most ppl will live but...meh
Thomas: similar to what i mentioned under Kit earlier - we were scared of the 'dangerous' shenanigans he was up to in COI, plus because his sister died I don't think 2 deaths in one household is fair - especially when you have 5/6 or so households to choose from.
Alastair: I'll admit I'm biased i rlly want him to survive. I don't think his odds are horrendous, but it is very possible he could die - especially when i think he has an important charavhter arc ( expect an essay if he does die on here). But the whole Cordelia revenge/morn quote worries me (could be a lot of ppl tho)
Charles : ah yes, what is there to say. Honestly i think he survives, i would 100% think he would die if he hadn't of almost died in COI. Anything is possible tho. I will say that if he lives Matthew may have a greater change if dying.
Anna: tbh i think cc like her and Ariadne. It is very possible that Anna could die since she hasn't really change much between the two books previous, tho she could open up in this book.
Ariadne/Kamala: i think that she will survive, there is no point in killing her off. She has developed much and now will be even more free in COT. Maybe she moves in with Anna permanently, maybe she gets Anna's appartment if Anna dies?
Overall i will be shocked if Cordelia, James or Ariadne die. Of the others on this list probably one will, if not two ( definitely not unless Charles is one?)
I may do parents/ adults soon if I'm bored.
Go néirí an t-ádh leat!

I have more thoughts I will get out later but I'm torn between it being absolutely hilarious and absolutely horrifying if Thomas's fire message to Alastair does work.
On one hand, the comedy of Thomas thinking it wouldn't work and just being plain, honest and annoyed about his own feelings.
On the other... fire messages are pretty much immediate, aren't they? The message getting to Alastair while he's with Charles... could go very wrong. We don't know yet what the hell Charles said to Alastair at the infirmary and why is Alastair going to see him, but by the gods, I feel uneasy about it considering Alastair doesn't stand up for himself against Charles when he's alone.

TW POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR CHAIN OF THORNS ( names of the chapters and just idk theories)
Don't know if this helps but as we know chapters=poems/poetry
I tried to investigate and for the remorseful day chapter I've found this
Tumblr media
If this is the one, which I'm not sure about...
it'll make sense bc
How hopeless under ground falls the remorseful day
This very much indicates that in THIS chapter someone will dïə or possibly be turned into a vampire and we know that someone will dïə so it's not a big surprise but
It gives me Matthew vibes but Matthew will in my opinion have a whole book about him. And maybe that's why, he will be a vampire
But also it gives me Alastair vibes.
I hope I'm wrong

chain of thorns theory time since it's coming out in a couple of weeks!
I'm like 100% convinced lucie is getting her marks stripped. obviously this is a really popular theory but I want to list all the reasons I think it's gonna happen
the main one is that necromancy is a pretty huge deal for shadowhunters and mark stripping is the punishment for extreme law violations and especially considering lucie's warlock heritage the clave would want to make an example out of her
jem said he watched only one person's marks get stripped and the fact that he hated it so much that he refused to do it to emma and julian despite the urgency of their situation and a literal curse looming over their heads makes me think it was someone he cared about
cordelia being insecure about lucie possibly not wanting to be her parabatai anymore… it'd be ironic if they become parabatai and then their bond gets broken because lucie gets her marks stripped
magnus saying "james and lucie… the ones I saved and the ones I couldn't"…… HE COULDN'T SAVE LUCIE
lucie and edmund parallels and lucie being the second herondale to have their marks stripped
sooooo in conclusion lucie is definitely getting her marks stripped and since jesse can't bear marks anyway they're gonna live together as mundanes and their kids will return to the shadowhunter world like will and cecily did and continue the blackthorn line
also on a sort of related theory I think bridget being alive in tda is definitely the result of one of lucie's necromancy attempts going wrong
on the other hand there's also the possibility of matthew getting his marks stripped which also sounds icredibly likely to me like maybe he takes the fall for jesse's resurrection to protect lucie or something and it would also be delicious af because if he does get his marks stripped then both will and james will have felt their parabatai bond snap <3 cute father/son parallels <3 anyway one thing for sure about matthew is that he's gonna end BADLY badly like tessa's first thought when he's mentioned is "oh poor matthew" it's bad for him I fear

COT theory (slight spoilers from recent chapters)
Okay so I think that most of the snippets are from earlier on in the book. Also I think Alastair sends a message back to Thomas after he receives the fire message.
Tumblr media
Kinda sounds like Thomas wasn't expecting a message here?

I'M LATE FOR THE PARTY SORRY
But I'll give my two cents about it
If it's true and a head of a Institute dies I don't think we have many candidates (or at least, not many that we care about) but now that Will is away maybe someone else is in charge and my guess would be either Gabriel and Cecily or Gideon and Sophie
NOW, I have said this before and I'll say it again, there was a moment when Cassie said that a character that we know and care about will die in Chain of Thorns T_T BUT what if it is a Infernal Devices character? I think that's a huuge possibility
My personal guess is Gideon, just because I feel that he is always mentioned in the whole Tatiana situation, yk? He's always so open to her and has tried to help her and all, not that Gabriel hasn't, but it just seems that Gideon has a bigger soft spot for her and I think that if he died after he did something for her or she did something to him (even if it's a bad thing) it would make a nice story
and that's my Ted Talk, thank u

Key Word meanings
Finally getting around to using this account, yay! Though I'd go through the different hints cc has left about COT.
Today it's the key words she left like ages ago about chain of thorns so alot are making sense.
Paris, kidnapping, Cornwall, a party where a terrible thing happens, death (“somebody’s gonna die”), inventions, science, secrets revealed, a new Shadowhunter arrives in London.
Paris: I'd guess this is pretty obvious as Cordelia and Mathew are there. I wonder how long though and if they return again later as the synopsis says they go back to london
Kidnapping: Malcolm could maybe force Lucie and Jessie to stay with him and then it's technically a kidnapping? Then again with Tatiana and Belial on the loose either could kidnap anybody.
Cornwall: Juice and Malcolm are off there
A party where terrible things happen: i think that at this party Tessa is exposed for her parentage, or Tatiana shows up insuring chaos.
Death: final book so somebody is gonna die, not only that but somebody we care about?!??!
Inventions/science: I'd say kit will invent the fire messages, maybe have more science time with grace. Science is quite broad so it could be a lot of things
Secrets revealed: i know it has to happen these kids are hiding so much from each other and their families, i have no idea how cc will go about it but I'm really excited
New Shadowhunter: Esme Hardcastle definitely and hopefully won't be killed

Let‘s not forget that Alastair most likely is in possession of Cortana right now and might even have a short epic fight scene with the Carstairs sword before handing it back to Cordelia.
