A team for Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII, requested by @flashyxtemplar!

Staraptor - It has a savage nature. It will courageously challenge foes that are much larger. It never stops attacking even if it is injured. It fusses over the shape of its comb.

Mienshao - It overwhelms its opponents with continuous attacks and then slowly stores up power before delivering the finishing blow. Using the long fur on its arms like whips, it launches into combo attacks that, once started, no one can stop.

Frosmoth - It shows no mercy to any who desecrate fields and mountains. It will fly around on its icy wings, causing a blizzard to chase offenders away.

Gallade - When trying to protect someone, it extends its elbows as if they were swords and fights savagely.

Chandelure - The spirits burned up in its ominous flame lose their way and wander this world forever. In homes illuminated by Chandelure instead of lights, funerals were a constant occurrence— or so it's said.

Gardevoir - It will dedicate itself to defending a master it has come to adore. Its pure white dress, reminiscent of those worn by ladies of nobility, is the dress of one who is willing to risk their life.

Details:

This one’s very much a “I imagined if his world actually had Pokemon and what he would catch and recruit”. Mienfoo was selected as a “mountainous region” pokemon given Mt. Nibel’s importance, and the Starly line was picked for generally being an easily accesible but gutsy line. I imagine Starly as his first Pokemon.

Frosmoth was picked for when he formed a bond with Zack, for the snowy locale. As a bonus, Snom evolves into Frosmoth via friendship. Gallade I imagine was Zack’s, and he turned it over to Cloud when he died. Chandelure was picked because I felt he needed a Ghost-Type, and the next step felt like a “city” Pokemon. I imagine it hung around as a Lampent waiting for him to die and he just didn’t. Game recognizes game and all that.

Gardevoir is for Aerith’s death. Ralts is a Pokemon found in grassy areas and woods, and is attuned to emotions. Gardevoir itself is known as the “Embrace Pokemon” and that along with its Fairy-Type, appearance, and being a counterpart to Gallade put it in this slot.

IDK Final Fantasy why does this guy experience So Many Situations. Somebody better put It Never Rains In Southern California on a Cloud Strife playlist.

And he uses his Jenova-esque powers for good— tapping into other worlds’ equivalents to the Lifestream to do things like talk to Pokémon like a Disney princess and go through the multiverse saving Sephiroths from being overtaken.

He’s the Anti-Jenova.

More Malchus headcanons

One of the only things he has in common with his progenitor Sephiroth is a love of scented shampoo. He smells like vanilla and wholesomeness.

Aerith Gainsborough’s spirit was involved with him going self-aware. Malchus is very attuned to not only life force and healing, but spirits. This guy sees ghosts.

Meaning yes, Aerith got to avenge herself.

He uses the infamous and iconic Heartless Angel spell (that reduces all opponents to 1 HP) to catch Pokémon. Malchus used False Swipe!

He absolutely rescues and purifies Shadow Pokémon.

It’s not exactly something consciously remembered from Sephiroth (a bioweapon lab rat), but Malchus is afraid of needles.
