i do think theres something sad about how largely only the literature that's considered especially good or important is intentionally preserved. i want to read stuff that ancient people thought sucked enormous balls

blog maintenance
tending to some things while i have a bit of freetime. i'm about to hit a year on this account and i had long imagined sharing some of the mysterious inner workings behind the folks (me!) here at sylvies-kablooie. so, while i feel no one is interested, read on if ur curious about how i run my blog slash rules slash boundaries behind operation!
so the first thing is that i am primarily a loki blog (in the sense that it's about the loki tv show, more specifically sylvie and sylki though) but you will see some posts about other things, typically history, animals, or jokes. i try to keep everything at least 50% loki so you get what you came here for and also that's what i want to talk about.
HOWEVER if for some reason you're here for loki and nothing else (or history and nothing else- whichever!), i tag all of my posts so you can very easily block something you are sick of seeing! and i encourage you to do so if needed! some tags you might see and wish to mute: history posting, crimson peak, neotag, lmao, creature, write write write
and i will comment on non-loki related posts with regularity so if ur not a loki blog but see me around. hey <3
i rely heavily on my best friend mister queue and i will try to tag all of the posts i throw in there so you can tell if i'm coming at you live or not. most of what you will see will be queue posts. my queue stretches for like 2-3 months ahead generally and sometimes i will forget to tag something. but it doesn't happen too much!
in terms of post content, i will say fuck but beyond this things are pretty sfw. maybe a risque joke here and there but nothing too crazy imo. i'd rate the blog tv-14 for language or something along those lines.
i don't dm people often and generally just prefer to just add things to comments or notes!
the concept of "mutuals" is flexible to me. there are some people i don't follow back because we blog about vastly different stuff, so instead i just go through certain tags on those accounts. however i recognize those who appear in my notifs regularly who embrace the sylvie posting agenda. and to these special few, you are all mutuals invited to the metaphorical slumber party. there's also some people that don't follow me back but to me that IS my mutual and a beloved member of the tumblr ecosystem.
i also tend to be quite busy which means i follow less people and i don't always know wtf is going on in terms of like. anything. i was really busy during the glasgow willy wonka meme and had a deeply confusing few days after that.
and i do have asks on but again with the busy thing, i only get to them every once in a while.
i made one post that blew up and now i get a ton of bots following me so every once in a while i go through a block accounts with no name and a default profile picture.
and last but not least i WAS on stan twitter in 2021 when loki s1 dropped. i add this fact as both a fun conversational point but also because i have seen the vile bottoms of discourse and if you were also on stan twitter in 2021, you would understand my deeply cautious nature.
so! that's pretty much it. hope u enjoyed!

how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)
there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~
I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:
url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant. every single post, every single time. in chronological order starting with the most recent post. note: it will not find #croissants or that time you made the typo #croidnssants. for a tag with multiple words, it’s just /tagged/my-croissant and it will show you everything with the exact phrase #my croissant
url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first
url.tumblr.com/search/croissant isn’t as perfect at finding everything, but it’s generally loads better than the search on mobile. it will find a good array of posts that have the word croissant in them somewhere. could be in the body of the post (op captioned it “look at my croissant”) or in the tags (#man I want a croissant). it won’t necessarily find EVERYTHING like /tagged/ does, but I find it’s still more reliable than search on mobile. you can sometimes even find posts by a specific user by searching their url. also, unlike whatever random assortment tumblr mobile pulls up, it will still show them in a more logically chronological order
url.tumblr.com/day/2020/11/05 will show you every post on the blog from november 5th, 2020, in case you’re taking a break from croissants to look for destiel election memes
url.tumblr.com/archive/ is search paradise. easily go to a particular month and see all posts as thumbnails! search by post type! search by tags but as thumbnails now
url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio will show you every audio post on your blog (you can also filter by other post types). sometimes a little imperfect if you’re looking for a video when the op embedded the video in a text post instead of posting as a video post, etc
url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/croissant will show you EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant, but it will show you them in the archive thumbnail view divided by months. very useful if you’re looking for a specific picture of a croissant that was reblogged 6 months ago and want to be able to scan for it quickly
url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio/tagged/croissant will show you every audio post tagged with the specific phrase #croissant (you can also filter by photo or text instead, because I don’t know why you have audio posts tagged croissant)
the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!
caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.
Tumblr media
if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else
if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)

A couple years ago, I was staying with a friend for New Year’s and we’d decided to drive down to this adorable strip of locally-owned small business shops and check them out. The bakery was particularly crowded and since I wasn’t planning to buy anything, I waited outside. It’d been snowing, and since moving I’d picked up a “Californian-experiences-true-midwest-winter-for-the-first-time” habit of making at least one (1) tiny snowman every opportunity I get
so I built a little snowman on one of the small tables on this strip.
after about three minutes of cramming ice together, I hear, “Do you want espresso beans for the eyes?” and I turn around and there’s this gal leaning precariously far out the window of her coffee shop, surrounded by her coworkers, holding out her hand and said espresso beans.
I think of those strangers often. just the thought of them all looking out the window to see this random stranger on the corner in the snow building a tiny snowman and deciding to join in, make it special for no other reason than that they wanted to. people are so, so precious and I’m never going to forget that moment.

In her song Rainbow Dress, Taylor Swift describes the position of her purported "straight sex" in relationship to what Gayle Rubin terms the charmed circle of sexuality, wherein any sexual behavior outside an accepted range can only be immoral. When it comes to the vectors of heterosexual versus homosexual and vanilla versus kinky, her "just normal sex, nothing too weird" with a "regular hunk with a beard" is positioned inside this charmed circle. Yet the most glaring exception is that her sex is public--at the gay pride parade, no less. The hunk she desires has no name, no specific relation to her, and she makes no pretense of monogamous attachment. Her apparently ironic participation at the gay pride parade draws from Michael Warner's anti-identitarian critiques of tendencies that elevate sexual orientation above other maligned sexual practices and detach queerness from sex altogether. Swift's sexuality is clearly informed by queer perspectives: the erotic fixation on ball sweat evokes gay sadomasochist "pig" subcultures, and her claim that she hates her own vagina invites a multiplicity of pleasure possibilities that do not involve direct genital stimulation. The push and pull in her lyrics between straight nomenclature and queer imagery builds upon Eve Sedgwick's critiques of heterosexual-homosexual binarism in Epistemology of the Closet, and attuned listeners know that the question of queerness "hidden inside" cannot follow such an either-or formulation.
