Drama CD: [幽幻ロマンチカ・真骨頂] ≁Karasutengu Hifumi・Baku Utashiro≁

Ok I know this is out of order (I skipped over the previous Hatenkou discs, which I will do later), but I reallllly adore the Shinkocchou concept. This came at the end of a HECTIC week, so to myself and any readers out there, I say a well-deserved: お疲（憑か）れ様でした！

In this disc - the first in this subtitle - Crow-Heavenly-Dog Hifumi and Dream-Eating Animal-Thing Utashiro team up to fight crime and save the Universe... of Nanagiri High School.

Before I say anything else, first look at the hidden msgs (x2) in the tracklist:

Hifumi: bold⋆ spells 「すきだから」 (’Because I like you...’)

We also find out bits about each character's past - like how Hifumi had been cold and uncaring when he first mixed with the human world, and how he developed a taste for sweet foods because that's what people used to give him as offerings. AND how hilariously angry U-kun gets when people try to point out that deep down he's really just a softie/sweetie.

NB. The audio track is a bonus bit at the end of the final cast commentary track where the two of them do a hilarious 'Free Talk' in character.

[The First Rumour: Urban Legend ‘Sukima’]

Something's lurking in the cracks and corners of Nanagiri High School. So far five students have disappeared, starting with a girl in 1st year. Everyone is freaking the fuck out, and even the police have got involved, but this being a paranormal case ofc they are not going to find anything.

On the orders of Toilet Flower Dude (abbreviated TFD), Hifumi and Utashiro are investigating the urban legends to prevent them from destabilising the forces of the Supernatural Seven. And they have come to you for help - after all, youkai get their powers from the goodwill of humans. TFD has even coined a team name for the three of you: DARK DESTINY FAN CLUB. And ofc you are the leader, because vagina power.

As part of the investigation, first you all go to... the nearby cafe and eat cake. Because Marie Antoinette said so. Because apparently a couple from your school was attacked when they went on a date there.

Hifumi decides that you have to act like a couple to bait the monster into attacking you. (Except this is more like a 3P scenario and for some reason nobody finds that just a little bit odd...?) The two of them start feeding you and wiping extra cream off your face, and ofc you become all shy and resistant. So then both of them possess your body and start putting their lips on you to 'make you understand how the cake feels'. #mfw = (*>艸<)ｷｬｧｯ. (Not even kidding, I actually made this face when I was listening to this.)

You finally cannot put up with this treatment anymore, and when they stop, you pick up a chair and start hurling it at them. Damn girl u so hot when u maddd. So much for Battle Plan RaiseBloodSugar1. XD

Plan #2: Ya'll patrol the empty classrooms after school to look for clues. Eventually you find a ...fluffy/slimy-looking... monster consuming a 1st-year boy. When the three of you approach, the monster devours him whole and disappears.

You suggest using yourself as bait, with the both of them possessing your body to fight the monster in invisible mode. Sounds all fine and dandy... except their demon powers totally don't even work against this mochi-mochi monster!! After some failed attacks, Utashiro forms a protective shield to fend off the monster and allow Hifumi to fly you off to safety. (Such beautiful teamwork I could cry...)

Later Utashiro catches up to the two of you. It seems that the monster is so 'impenetrable' because it is feeding off the energy of some human somewhere, whose vulnerabilities it is exploiting. At this point you are still reeling from the narrow escape, so your two manservants boyfriends manservants decide to call it a day and escort you home.

Back home, you refuse to sleep, so the two of them dogpile you on your bed (is it just me or does that sound kinda dirty, sports fans? ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)). You request that they both change into their chibi forms and hug them to sleep. Hifumi doesn't mind at all but Utashiro hates it!! XD

Turns out you can't sleep because you are still terrified from the episode earlier. So they change back into their hot-guy forms and possess your body (because your bed is too small XD) and hold your hand and caress your head. After you finally fall asleep, the two of them commence the BL action pillow talk:

Utashiro is feeling down and blaming himself for not noticing your fear sooner. Hifumi is all like ‘I KNEW U WERE A SOFTIE U SEXY TSUNDERE’, but Utashiro tells him that all the other baku perished because they were forgotten by humans, and this is why he can't forgive and embrace humanity the way that Hifumi does.

As Hifumi correctly figures out, Utashiro is/was the Chief of the baku, even though he was not the most powerful nor the eldest. But Hifumi thinks it's enough that Utashiro did his best for his companions, just like *you* always do, you useless piece of sh... person!! I mean person!!. Hifumi trusts you even though you are a human, but Utashiro is unconvinced, since you never risked your life for him (the way you did for Hifumi)...

...Aaaand you wake up to the kinako-mochi monster in your room!!! Hifumi flies both of you out the window, but it's too heavy for him and he and he drops you both. Orz (well U-kun cushions your fall ofc b/c what are manservants for, amirite?). Meanwhile the monster has followed you out here and multiplied, so you all escape to the school grounds.

In the school gym, the monster and its spawns appear again, and Hifumi tries to fight them off, maxing out his energy much to Utashiro's alarm. Hifumi explains to Utashiro that he was born out of people's wishes,... and just when he was about to be forgotten, *you* appeared and gave him a new meaning to life. So he can't help but be fond of humanity and want to do his best for them.

You stop Hifumi from over-exerting himself, and volunteer to be swallowed alive by the monster so that ya'll can fight it from inside its stomach. Hifumi is all like ‘LET'S DO THIS LEADER >:)’, but Utashiro FREAKS THE FUCK OUT X( and offers to come with you, forming a protective shield to protect you. At some point he finally admits that it would be 'troubling' if something happened to you... This is about as much of a love confession as you’re ever gonna get here, so I'm savouring the fuck out of this line indefinitely <3.

Inside the monster's belly, you find... a girl that was eaten, and pull her into the safety of Utashiro's protective shield. The monster grows weak, and Hifumi uses this opportunity to blow it up into smithereens. All its spawns become inactive as well.

The girl turns out to be the aforementioned 1st-year who was the monster's first victim. She appears to be asleep, so Utashiro takes a peek into her dream: she is infatuated with a senpai, but too shy to talk to him, and can only watch him from afar. The pain of her unrequited love bore cracks in her heart, which the kinako mochi monster has exploited and subsisted on.

You ask Utashiro to change the contents of her dream from #badend to #goodend. As he does this, the cracks in her heart start to mend, and the monsters disappear. But ofc, changing her dream doesn't do much irl; she still needs to make her own happy ending.

Thus, peace is restored to Nanagiri High School!! >:D The five missing students are all found safely and soundly asleep in the school gym, and the first girl finally found the courage to speak to her senpai.

Hifumi teases Utashiro for risking his own life to protect you during Battle Plan MonsterBelly1, but Utashiro claims he only 'changed his mind a little bit about humans'.

But then Hifumi readily admits that he got to see both cool and uncool sides of you during this adventure, and it makes him like you more <3. Upon hearing this, Utashiro is all like ‘GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER’ and instructs you to stick with him so that he shall protect you from the Crow-Dog-Whatever that is *even more dangerous than any urban legend ever*! <333333

[Thoughts] OH WOW I got so used to the DiaLovers twisted personalities that I figured this was going to be like a Versus disc where they compete and fight with each other over you. But like I said, the teamwork/bromance is so beautiful it brings a tear to my eye :').

First of all, as KENN observes in his part of the Free Talk, this disc is kind of a parallel world where you are not strictly *romantic* with either of them. But at the same time both of them seem ok with some 曖昧さ (e.g. light touches/kisses) here and there. I guess it's less like a FB "it's complicated" situation, and more of youkai having some harmless fun with a human.

[cf. Remember how all the vampires stripped Yui down to her undergarments and bit her in all the embarrassing places, and she STILL thinks: 'They only see me as food T_T.' Yes that's totally non-suggestive, yes yes, carry on.]

Secondly, like Kimura-san notes, the two personalities make a striking contrast, and Utashiro seems *even more* tsundere than usual compared to Hifumi. But because Hifumi has one more disc than Utashiro, I think he's had more opportunities for character growth, so I'm optimistic about U-kun :)

I think between the two of them, Utashiro is the more mature and sensitive one - as shown by their hidden msgs, Hifumi's feelings lean more towards 'I like you'/displays of affection, whereas Utashiro is more about protecting you & supporting you emotionally.

Hifumi has a more impulsive/careless personality; sometimes he misses little details, and he's ready to take risks if you are. In that regard I think they counterbalance each other quite well, Utashiro talks sense and 'anchors' the situation; Hifumi brings the positivity and the momentum.

Using the two roles of the manzai (traditional Japanese standup-comedy) for analogy, U-kun is the 'straight man' who provides the tsukkomi, and Hifumi is the boke or the one with all the gags.

...Also it just occurred to me how most of the time the tsundere role is either like a younger/spoiled brat type, or a kichiku megane (à la Sakamaki Reiji). Utashiro is kind of like a... tsundere-oniisan? XD Not sure if that's a type, but in any case it’s kinda refreshing, plus he's precious and I love him :3

NB1. KENN's chibi voice is THE BEST. X3

NB2. I wonder what trousers (「なっちゃうパンツ」) Kimura-san was wearing in the recording studio on his dates with 'Dummyko-chan' - which is what he calls the dummy-head mic XD. Now, I'm not sure about this, but there is a good chance that he's the one who came up with the worst nickname in the entire universe 'M-neko-chan'...

History

nathaniel was dyslexic. he was bullied for his oriental face and ‘stupidity’ for his limited knowledge caused by the learning disability. he can't find comfort in his parents, as they’ve expressed their embarrassment by pushing him to his limit so he could ‘catch up’.

one day, bullying went too far and he can no longer contain his anger. bam, tooths and bloods were on the floor and three arms were broken. he went home with black eyes, expulsion letter, but not an ounce of regrets. nath felt like he’s finally doing something right, something he should’ve done since long ago. ‘cause although he hates violence, it felt so good giving people their deserved punch in the face.

just like he expected though, his parents didn’t take it well. he transferred to a different school, and since then, he was fed with books in order to fill the gap between him and the ‘normal kids’. he can read by now, but he dislikes reading for all the negatives it associated with in his perspective.

but shits trains him well at handling negative emotions. with his beliefs, even forced smiles could turn into genuine ones. but that didn’t deny that it didn’t solve his problems, nor it decreases his suicidal thoughts. so, still, he demands a restart.

and then velia enters his life, offering a literal alternate life and locked him out of reality.

unlike most who are scared and wants to go home, nathaniel is happy. so happy that he wished he doesn't have to go back. hence he easily puts his life on the line to save people while he’s at it, wishing that his life could mean something.

more details will be added after plotting!

Last week of current challenges... except for the DGC, because I fell a bit behind schedule there. Oops.

Dec. 21

I woke up pretty much at noon.

Played some cards and wasted a lot of time on the usual. Only did a couple of my planned exercise for the day.

First, today’s DD. 30 infinity circles with EC. Not much to say, other than it was pretty enjoyable!

Last, Day 21 of the ‘19AC. 1′ single leg half squat. This was on the challenging side - mostly because of needing to focus on balance.

By the time I had intended to get the rest of my stuff done, bro went to bed and closed his door (so I couldn’t use his pull-up bar.)

Yeah... Didn’t do DGC stuff again, either. But I did get to bed in the yellow zone. So there’s that.

Dec. 22

Another day I got up at about noon, having set my alarm for that. Maybe it will press me towards fixing my sleep schedule... but today won’t be that day.

Did much of the usual, with exercise interspersed.

First, today’s DD. 40 single leg bridges with EC. This was pretty doable and a nice way to get my day moving! :D

Second, Day 22 of the ‘19AC. 4′ side leg raise hold (2′/2′, lateral decubitus.) This was pretty doable but intense. I especially wanted to make sure to hips were stacked and not leaning, for a bit more effort. At least, I think so.

Third, Day 25 of the KMC. 160 side kicks, switch halfway. Did 80/80 in one go, pretty handily.

Fourth, Day 25 of the DHC. 2x10″ dead hangs. Not much to really comment on these days. I do like them though, during low energy days.

(After distractions for far too many hours and getting upset over personal stuff...)

Last, Day 22 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

Fuck it. It’s almost 7AM when I’m writing this entry. Thought about putting the DGC shit off. But fuck it.

Dec. 23

I woke up after 2PM, today. Oof.

Picked up some meds and did a bit more of the usual, before today’s exercises.

First, today’s DD. 3′ half jacks with EC, barely. Took about 3 tries, the problem was too much sugar/caffeine, not enough water, and going too fast to sustain the pace. First go was ~2'+1' = 114+100. Second go, was still too fast/inconsistent, but the third was at a more slow & deliberate pace - with a total of 109 reps. Whew! That was a fun challenge.

Second, Day 23 of the ‘19AC. 30″ push-up plank hold. Did it in one go, but it was kinda sloppy. Regardless, It was just good enough for me. :/

Third, Day 26 of the KMC. 160 turning kicks + 160 side kicks. Did it in 1 set of (80/80) + (80/80). This was made more tough after doing so many half jacks earlier. But I’m glad I was able to manage.

Fourth, Day 26 of the DHC 1′40″ dead hang. Done in 50"+25"+10"+15", with ~20" rest in between sets. That was pretty fucking brutal & required a bit of psyching myself up for it - but I still find it fun.

Last, Day 23 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

For the Final Fantasy series of videogames.

For Sanders Sides, for the entertainment and inspiration.

For the patience and encouragement from clients past and present.

I did get to bed like an hour earlier than the night before, but still squately in the red zone. :I

Dec. 24

I got up a bit before 3PM today. Bleh.

Did much of the usual before exercising.

First, today’s DD. 40 split lunges with EC. This took a bit of willpower to get through - but I'm happy I could manage. :P

Second, Day 24 of the 2019 Advent Calendar. Last day to this challenge. 4 minute relax (child’s pose). I thought this was a wonderful way to end the Advent Calendar. And it was pretty soothing to kind sit there and just meditate a bit. And overall, I rather liked the theme that everything here were holds of some kind - felt very unified! :D

Third, Day 27 of the KMC. 100 double turning kicks. Pretty handily did it in one set of 50/50.

Fourth, Day 27 of the DHC. 2x10″ dead hangs. This was pretty simple and fun. Swung a little more in the second set than ideal. But 10″ is pretty easy, now.

(After spending some time doing planning the next few months’ exercise regimen...)

Last, Day 24 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

That my brother has been doing the dishes more, despite me not telling him to do so (I had intention to do the dishes today, but he just took it upon himself.)

That I have some good foundations to build on in terms of fitness.

For chocolate, existing. :,D

After a shower and some games, I got to bed. It was earlier than yesterday, but still in the red zone. :P

Dec. 25

I woke up just shy of 1PM today.

Did a bit of the usual before heading out to the grandparents’ place for the holiday.

Had a pretty good dinner, played some cards, had some tense moments. But at least Grandpa didn’t call the cops on the uncle. It’s sad to say that’s an improvement.

First, today’s DD. 2′ meditation with EC. It's always lovely to take a moment to meditate, especially after some tense moments.

Third, Day 28 of the KMC. 3x 40 turning kicks + 40 side kicks. I did it in one superset of 3x (20/20 + 20/20). Pretty simple and to the point work.

Fourth, Day 28 of the DHC. 1′50″ dead hang. I managed it in 1'+25"+20"+8". Wound up with a blood blister though. I was thinking I would stick some bandages on it for the remaining 2 days of this challenge. but various forums be like "open, clean, and dress it." :I

Last, Day 25 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

That there were some things that were good/okay about how the day went.

That I’ve opted not to go to the facility tomorrow - so I can sleep in.

That I’ve some good ways to plan ahead when it comes to exercise.

I went to bed only a few minutes earlier than yesterday.

Dec. 26

I got up a bit before 2PM, I think.

After a bit of the usual, I went straight into my exercise.

First, today’s DD. 2′ leg extensions with EC (donkey kicks). I counted exactly 100 reps by the end. This was a bunch of fun! :D

Second, Day 29 of the KMC. “16 balance kicks side & turning both each leg, no putting your foot down.“ Had a few moments of wobbling and nearly losing my center - but I’m glad I could do things pretty well.

Third, Day 29 of the DHC. 2x10″ dead hangs. I decided to approach it with some bandaging on hand with the blister. It was a bit tough, but the blister didn't rupture. That leaves tomorrow with a bit of a question mark. If it's going to pop, that's when I think it'll happen. orz

Dec. 27

I woke up just a bit after noon, today. Yay.

I did a bit of the usual, before reserving some more trips and archiving the last couple months’ DDs. Then, I started on my exercise.

First, today’s DD. 2′ arm extensions with EC. I counted 147 reps by the end of it, and I'm happy about keeping it above 1/sec. I had a lot of fun with this one! :D

Third, Day 30 of the Kick Master Challenge. 200 turning kicks + 200 side kicks, done in 2 sets of 100/100. Did get mildly winding, but still manageable.

Fourth, Day 30 of the Dead Hang Challenge. 2′ dead hang. I walked into this with some trepidation, but I got through it better than I expected! It took 6 sets to do it, but I got it done (45"+25"+10"+10"+17"+13"). I bandaged my blistered hand... and it didn't tear open! Huzzah! \o/

Dead/clotted blood mass may've torn a little bit away from nearby capillaries, what with some brighter red being visible. Did rub off a bit of superficial layer for offhand and the calloused ridging is a bit tender underneath - but no surface injuries at least. I count that as a personal victory! And now - my hands will get their much needed break from the pull-up bar. \o/

Last, Day 27 of the DGC. I’m grateful:

That my hands didn’t tear open, during the DHC. Despite it feeling a bit touch and go for a minute there!

That I only tentatively slotted in the Flex Hang Challenge after that. Because, oh man. That’d be a bad idea.

That I have plans to be excited for, in terms odf exercise... which I’ll get into, right after this sentiment.

Summary & Plans:

A day late, but I finished all my challenges but the Daily Gratitude Challenge (ETA in 3 days, barring further interruptions), in Dec. 27.

Altogether - I greatly enjoyed the Kick Master Challenge for expected reasons. I also liked how the structure had a few variations to go through. I was mostly able to keep the “in one workouts” to at most 2 sets, shortened the rests between all sets to a bare minimum, and didn’t fall out of the balance days even once! (I did contemplate on bounce-switching more often than I actually did, partly to mind the knees.)

I surprisingly really enjoyed going through the Dead Hang Challenge! I found it more fun than holding planks, DESPITE flirting with tearing my hands open near the end of it. Thankfully, using bandages in the last 2 days were enough to stave that disaster off.

As far as metrics for that went:

I hit a PB of 1′. Which I’m proud of

I had to break incremented days into multiple sets for 9 days (12 & 16-30), ranging from 2-6 sets, with ~15-30″ rests in between.

My plans starting tomorrow (technically today, but shhh...) are as follows.

I’m going to spend the next 6 weeks doing the Knee Conditioning Program I found a bit ago. The first week, I’ll be doing free-form warm-ups for each day. I think I’ll cycle through upperbody, ab, and (low/mid-impact) cardio workouts, as a complement.

Then, by the second week I’ll either jump in with the new DAREBEE Program(s!) Zero Hero, Baseline, or re-run Cardio Go! and use them for some supplementary cardio/rounding and warm-up. This will depend on which I feel will be more compatible with where I’m at.

Aaaah sorry for the late reply and thanks for the ask!! I’ve been doing ok working through commissions and stuff \o/ but I recently found out that my art wasn’t showing up in tags ‘cause I had some privacy option enabled /grumble (that was probably my fault though — I think I turned it on when this wasn’t an art blog yet orz) And yessss I have so many headcanons for huntershipping and some sf dog au stuff, though those are limited to selene and helios since they’re my ultimate spacefaring faves :D

SF Dog AU

- I think I mentioned this before but just in case anyone doesn’t know — Helios used to belong to Selene’s relatives until they had to move back to India. They didn’t want to put him in a pound so they left him with (a very reluctant) Selene. The first few days are pretty much utter chaos. Helios’ breed has a lot of energy that needs loads of exercise so staying locked up in the apartment all day sends him in a cabin fever frenzy ;o; Selene’s job demands that he works long hours so when he returns home his entire flat is pretty much shredded to bits, pillows strewn across the floor, doors scratched, piss everywhere ;_; At first Selene would lock Helios in a room as punishment but obviously it exacerbates the situation till Selene finds Keeler to learn how to care for Helios and train him. Now they’re a lot better with dealing separation, though Helios still scratches the doorframe now and again. Selene has to wake up super early to tire him out by jogging/cycling before heading off to work and walk Helios whenever he returns home (RIP selene’s beauty sleep lol) They have some toys that Helios can play with by himself (like the iFetch, thankfully Helios learns how to use it pretty fast) and go to the dog park/long hikes during the weekends.

- Helios’ left ear flops downwards, which Selene finds super strange ‘cause according to his age it should have grown out of it by now. He plays with it now and then anyway lol (He likes how it smells but won’t admit it doing so ‘cause who smells their dog’s ears?? lmao)

- Selene doesn’t like Abel very much — mostly because the way Abel greets Helios gets him overly excited and slobbery and it’s hard to calm him down afterwards, but partially because he doesn’t like how Helios is more hyped to see Abel than Selene sometimes lol. He thinks Cain’s a bad influence on Helios too — he once caught Helios humping a toy and thinks he picked it up from Cain (Helios is neutered btw)

- Helios fetches Selene his slippers when he returns from work! I’s the first thing Selene sees when he gets home haha. He also still has a jumping problem but they’re working on it.

- Helios is (fortunately!) not afraid of the vacuum. He does follow Selene around when he uses it though, because he likes having his belly vacuumed lmao. Selene has to vacuum super frequently now because oh god, the amount of fur Helios sheds is ridiculous — there is fur in my shoes, my socks, my hair —

- Whenever they visit the pet store Selene lets Helios pick whatever he wants, but after a few trips he realises Helios just picks the first thing he finds near the entrance, so he makes sure to walk a few rounds before letting Helios choose lol. They have sooooo many rope toys now ‘cause of this. (Luckily money isn’t really an issue for Selene)

Pokemon:

- After Gold and Silver exchange numbers they text a little at first, mostly because Silver just types back one-worded replies or just ignores him completely. Silv begrudgingly accepts Gold’s challenges to battle when he calls and always leaves immediately when they’re done, but eventually Gold convinces him to hang out and they get to know each other better \o/ They prefer calling each other ‘cause they get to hear each other’s voices aww

- Gold doesn’t really like Mount Silver ‘cause his meganium hates the cold, plus his team always gets super antsy whenever they explore the area. It’s only until Gold meets Red up there that he realises why. Speaking of Red, the first time Gold sees him he just nopes out of there thinking he saw an actual ghost lmao

- Gold’s a huge fanboy for Green and Red, but he makes a horrible second impression on Green lmao. He ends up puking from all the terrible vertigo Viridian Gym’s spinning tiles cause him lol (It doesn’t help that Gold’s super shit at puzzles lol)

- Gold loves to snuggle up to his starter when he sleeps ;w; I’ve been meaning to draw him sleeping with all the chikorita evolution lines cuddled up around him but there’s like ten million other things I wanna draw too lol. Usually his meganium curls around Gold protectively and he sleeps on its body like a pillow.

- I also mentioned this in a previous post but adult Gold and Silver run a berry farm back in New Bark Town! They have berry picking events every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The trainer who picks the most berries gets to keep what they collected, and you can catch wild pokemon lurking between the bushes as long as it’s not part of the chikorita horde. Gold also runs a small event every Sunday where you get to challenge him — if you beat him and his meganium you get free shit like TMs and stuff (he literally fights you with one pokemon but of course it’s level 100) This is meant to read like in-game NPC events like in HGSS \o/ Silver also does pokemon physiotherapy on the farm, which is a huge plus ‘cause chikorita leaves emit a naturally calming scent.

- Every chikorita is named after the berry patch they tend to, e.g. Oran, Sitrus, Payapa etc. (Usually the berry flavour corresponds to their nature as well)

- Every time they have to mow the grass the chikoritas have to be locked in a room lol — the scent of freshly cut grass makes them go fucking crazy (fun fact: the smell of cut grass is actually a distress signal) They’re kept indoors for a few hours at least.

- Silver actually has a favourite chikorita! It’s a timid but adorable bean named Pecha that gets cold easily so it always wears a wooly sweater come fall. More often than not it wobbles happily to Silv for one-sided cuddles but every now and then he’ll sneakily scoop it up in his arms for hugs aww (don’t tell Gold)

- Not so much of a headcanon, but I still find this pretty funny lol (/fingerguns @violetnyte)

Aaaah I should have more but nothing comes to mind (and it’s super late orz) Here’s a small pic I did of Gold — I tried imitating one of those Gold/Silver pixiv artist’s style because the way they draw Gold is soooo adorable ;w; (Unfortunately they deleted their pixiv but smol gold lives in everyone’s hearts)

Soul Contract Event Q&A Translation

Hi there, Soul Contract fandom! I’ve been lurking around here for a while and I’ve seen such great energy and passion, so I wanted to contribute to this tiny but lovely fandom myself by offering a translation of the in-character Q&A section from the fan event! I don’t think I’ve seen this particular section of the event get translated, so I figured I’d try my best at it. (As for the other parts of the event, spideronthewindow did a spectacular job subbing them previously -- thank you so much!)

Note: Text in parentheses with a * is a note from me, since some parts were difficult for me to translate (I don’t know a lot of sophisticated Chinese vocabulary since I usually speak very colloquial Chinese with my family, so there are some words/phrases I’m not certain about). Also, this event appears to have taken place around when episode 18 aired, with episode 19 available via VIP access. (For those who don’t know, Lanling is Yang Jinghua’s VA and Mingyue is Duanmu Xi’s VA.)

Host: For our next segment, you will now get into character for Yang Jinghua and Duanmu Xi to answer some questions!

Lanling: Okay. (joking) So I’ll be Duanmu Xi and answer some questions. (audience laughing) Oh, and it looks like we have some emoticons (? *not sure what the word he used was but it’s in reference to the little masks/cutouts). (audience cheers)

Host: (to Lanling, handing him the Jinghua mask) Hold this one properly, alright?!

Lanling: Okay, okay. (audience laughing)

Host: (to Lanling) What are you so upset about?

Lanling: (*not entirely sure what he said here — something about not being able to see…?)

Host: There’s a small hole. (laughs as Lanling pokes at Jinghua’s ahoge, lol) Hey, it’ll break if you keep poking at it! Keep that straight!

Lanling: Okay, okay, okay.

Host: (to audience) You guys, come on! If we’re so serious and uptight, how are we going to ask them any questions? (to Lanling and Mingyue) Are you two ready?

(switching Lanling to Jinghua and Mingyue to Duanmu since they’re now essentially in character)

Jinghua: Ready!

Host: Your ages are?

Jinghua: 23!

Duanmu: 17. (audience laughs)

(*I’m not sure what the next question is, but Duanmu says something about always calling Jinghua “Yang Jinghua” while the audience protests that he calls him “Jinghua” sometimes too. Duanmu replies with “Rarely! Very rarely” while Jinghua scoffs at him, lol.)

Host: What were your first impressions of each other?

Jinghua: Korean oppa! Filming a drama — and a little crazy. (*both of them say something at the same time so I can’t catch what Jinghua says here) Likes to dye his hair. (audience laughs) But later I found out it really wasn’t dyed.

Duanmu: ….got hit by a car. (audience loses their shit)

Host: That really was very blunt…didn’t you see him before he got hit by a car?

Jinghua: He has a bad memory.

Host: Ah, so that’s how it is.

Host: If you were to describe each other as animals, what would they be?

Jinghua: Uh, oh my…(to Duanmu) what animal do you think you’d be?

Duanmu: You’re a monkey. (audience laughs)

Jinghua: Despite that Duanmu Xi is more seme than me, I think he resembles more of a…what’s it called…like a very sickly snow leopard.

Host: … ‘very sickly?’

Jinghua: Yeah, since he’s not expected to live much longer! (audience laughs)

Host: Ah! So that’s how it is…

Host: Then…were there any moments in which you thought the other was sexy? (audience oooohhhs at the BL potential)

Jinghua: I think he’s the sexiest when…he’s not there. (audience laughs)

Duanmu: When he transforms.

Host: He really is very sexy when he transforms…(*and something else I can’t quite catch)

Host: Hm, this next question is very good. How did you feel when the other performed the ‘kabedon’ on you? (*I believe ‘bi dong’ is the Chinese equivalent of the ‘kabedon,’ in which ‘bi’ means ‘wall’)

Jinghua: Ah, when I performed the ‘kabedon’ on him — (everyone laughs) — it was honestly a mistake. My foot slipped and I kabedon’d him. It really wasn’t a big deal.

Host: Then how about when you were kabedon’d by him?

Jinghua: Never! Did that ever happen?

Duanmu: He’s lying.

Host: I didn’t ask you if he was lying, I asked you how you felt when you were kabedon’d!

Duanmu: Never happened (*the kabedon, he means).

Host: This answer is indeed very blunt/succinct but isn’t really what we wanted.

Duanmu: Well, there was this one time where it was a ‘bed’-don. (audience loudly agreeing)

Host: Ah!

Jinghua: That time…it really was me…who pinned Duanmu Xi onto the bed. Oh my god — it really was me who did that!

Host: Yeah, that really was you!

Duanmu: Honestly, I didn’t really feel anything emotionally. Just…very untimely.

Jinghua: Hm. (glares at Duanmu)

Host: (to Duanmu) He gave you a look just now.

Host: At what moment were you happiest with each other?

Jinghua: Uhhhh…uh…him…I…you… (audience laughs at his stammering) This question is so hard!

Host: Were you happy when he fed you?

Jinghua: No…

Host: Oh, so that’s how it is.

Jinghua: He just…he just…this is so hard!

Host: You might pretend not to like him but there’s no way you don’t actually like him at all! You’re hiding a full-blown romance in there…

(*Not sure what they say here — some kind of disclaimer about the relationship between two men so probably something along the lines of bromance, lol)

Jinghua: Um, well, I guess I’m happiest when he’s not there to boss me around!

Duanmu: Well, there was one episode where Situ Lu chased us…and at that point I had lost most of my strength. I sent Jinghua away, but he ended up coming back to rescue me. (audience clapping because aww)

Host: At this point, Jinghua has answered every question except you still haven’t really told us when you were the happiest with Duanmu.

Jinghua: I gave an answer! Okay, fine — well, in the final episode…never mind, I can’t spoil it. Then it was just when he was covered in wounds and his body was coughing up blood — I mean, his mouth was coughing up blood —

Host: (laughing) His body was coughing up blood?

Jinghua: He was coughing up all that blood and yet he still tried to take back that hair tassel.

Host: Ah, yes, that was a very moving moment — I watched it.

Jinghua: You watched it already?!

Host: I watched all of it!

Jinghua: You watched all of it?!

Host: I have VIP access; I watched the 19th episode too! I bought the VIP access just for this.

Jinghua: Was — was I seme? (audience laughs)

Host: (fanning herself) It’s suddenly really hot weather, huh…with all these lovely suns in the room.

Host: Okay, then the next question is: typically, who is more finicky/difficult (*I’m not certain this is exactly what is said, but the context seems to point to something like this)?

Jinghua: (sighs) This question — Duanmu Xi.

Duanmu: (referring to Jinghua) Him.

Jinghua: Duanmu Xi.

Host: Continuing like this will get us nowhere…we all know who’s more difficult, right? So we really don’t even need to ask you guys this question!

Jinghua: To be really honest, Duanmu Xi really is the more difficult between us. Because if anything is on Yang Jinghua’s mind, he’ll say it out loud. If he doesn’t like you, then he doesn’t like you and he’ll annoy you. If he likes you, then he likes you. Duanmu Xi isn’t like that. (to audience) Right?

Host: They disagree.

Jinghua: Who disagrees?!

Host: That miss over there — she’s shaking her head the hardest, saying “that’s not right!” (to the girl disagreeing) Your hair was flying up in the air!

Jinghua: Who? Which row?

Host: The third row. The one next to the person holding up a phone, wearing glasses, now looking away — that girl.

Jinghua: I’ll remember you now. That guy (*referring to this girl’s boyfriend, maybe? not sure lol) isn’t bad. (audience laughs)

Host: Now, next question: what was the most touching phrase you’ve ever heard the other say to you?

Jinghua: ‘Let’s go home.’

Host: Yes, that was very touching indeed. (to Duanmu) He said, “Let’s go home.” What about for you?

Duanmu: ‘I will fight all of the enemies whom you can’t fight.’ (audience claps)

Host: There is a similar theme here…

Jinghua: My most seme phrase!

Host: (peering at Jinghua) I think I can see some sparkles and flowers in your eyes…

Jinghua: Uh, I didn’t sleep well!

Host: That phrase that Duanmu said on the car about going home was a really touching moment indeed.

Jinghua: Yeah, and then I…(stabbing motion)

Host: Mm. And then — (makes stabbing motion and sound effect) (audience laughs)

Host: Then, at this point, you have answered all of the questions we have. How do you feel now? You can take down those little masks now.

Mingyue: I’m so exhausted!

Lanling: It’s so hot! It’s so hot and tiring — well, actually, it wasn’t that bad since it’s not like I had to change much.

Mingyue: (SIGNATURE DORKY LAUGH) (audience laughs with him)

Lanling: It’s very painful to have him not laugh.

And that’s the end of this hilarious segment of the fan event! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, lol.

One final note: I’m one of those unfortunate Chinese American kids who can only understand spoken Chinese and can barely read any Chinese, so I can’t offer much help in translating the manhua. orz;;; I can, however, help translate/summarize any of the other anime/voice actor events and behind-the-scenes stuff that involve spoken Chinese, so if people enjoy these kinds of things, I might translate those in the future too. Seventh (and last) prompt of Undertale fan kids week from @friisans: free (...) What a wild ride! I’m very sorry being so late at this!! Hope you all like it, I’m very glad! @thefoxfromchapter21 wrote a little text about what’s going on here (and I almost cried orz) “So... You’re leaving?” Asriel’s voice brought Marche back to her senses and she massaged her temples. Her mind was drifting far away for what felt like hours, just gazing at the colorful lights that came from the reflection of the full moon on the lake, so still it looked like a mirror. The night was cold and the air was fresh, and she was about to leave home. She just nodded, still facing the window. “Okay, let’s just make sure we got all your belongings packed and…” He suddenly stopped “Sweetie, are you okay?” She was trying to hold up her tears, but they streamed down her face as she sobbed silently. He rushed to her side and wiped her tears with his fingers. “C’mon, you can tell me…” He waited for her to calm down with a worried look in his golden eyes. She finally spoke, her voice calm, but still weak. “It’s such a big step… All this. It feels like it was not that long ago when I was just a kid and we would play in the garden with mom, and I was so excited to finally move to my own house, but now…” “I’m scared.” Asriel took her by her shoulders and ran his fingers through her unruly hair. It was just like her mother’s, he thought for a second before continuing. “Marche… It’s a big world out there. We are just starting to learn again how to live together, monsters and humans. It’s going to be very hard, and there will be people who will just refuse to accept that you are what you are. You are a miracle, my dear… You’re not a monster and you’re not a human… You are made of love, but this world will sometimes be very harsh on you, not everyone will understand. This is why you’re gonna have to stay determined and strong, especially here.” He pointed at her heart. “Just know that, no matter how hard things may be, or how much they try to take you down, don’t ever let anyone treat you like you don’t have a place in this world. No matter what happens, know that your mom and I are proud of what you’ve become, and you can always come back. This will be forever your home.” He got up, walked to the drawer and grasped something in his hands. Marche stood up as well, went to the fireplace and with a quick fire spell, lit up the firewood. It was so easy now, but she remembered when she would still struggle to control her fire and would occasionally combust random objects if not paying attention. Her mother even told her that when she was a baby she burned her father to a crisp while she was at the market. Marche always loved that story. “Thanks, dad. Thanks for always staying by my side. I promise you, I’ll be strong.” He turned at her, still with something in his hands. “This is my present to you.” He let it go on her open hands. A necklace with a small star in its pendant. It was unlike anything she had ever seen, the star seemed like a crystal, but much more beautiful and it shone like it had a light of his own, displaying all the colors at the same time and she could sense that it beamed with her parent’s aura. “How… Where did you find this?” “We made it, your mother and I. She found out how to crystallize my Star Blazing, we thought you would like it.” She held the pendant close to her heart, feeling a warm energy embracing her. He continued. “You know, back when we were still trapped underground, my father used to tell me that if you wished with all your heart, your dreams would come true.” “Oh, I think I remember.” Marche said. Asriel gazed through the window, looking up at the stars outside. “The sory was true, after all… Because of you. You are my wish come true, Marche… You will always be… My precious little star.” This time he was the one crying. She rarely seen his father cry. “It’s hard for me to see you go, but that’s life… You have to let go, let the people you love find happiness on their own, walk their own path. So go and find your happiness, and… Even if you can’t see the stars in the sky, if you wish with all your heart, all your dreams will come true.” She was speechless, a big lump forming again on her throat as she grasped the crystal star ever so tightly.
