오늘 출근 길은 에캐 비행기 못타서 급하게 웨젯 다시 북해서 시큐리티 나갔다 들어옴. 저 라벤더 마차 라떼는 다들 먹길래 나도 따라 사봤는데 달달하니 맛있다😋. 간만에 웨젯, 그것도 날개 좌석 타서 날개 구경 실컷 했구만.

리치몬드 집 앞 꽃나무에도 꽃이 만개하고 시청 앞 튤립도 예쁘다. 요즘 리치몬드는 어디에나 꽃이 활짝피어 어딜가나 다 예쁘다. 🌹🌸

2주 앞으로 다가온 나의 작고 소중한 휴가. 싱가포르로 방향을 틀 듯하다. 싱가포르는 덥고 습하대서 전혀 고려치 않았는데 마침 내 휴가 기간에 싱가포르 심포니가 브람스 레퀴엠을 연주한대서 “어머 이건 가야해” 모드로 뭔가에 홀린 듯 일단 콘서트 표를 지른 상태. 싱가포르 알면 알수록굉장히 흥미로운 나라다. 나는 영화 “크레이지 리치 아시안스“ 본 거 말고 아는 게 없는데😅 리콴유 총리 시절도 흥미롭고 이 나라가 지금의 아시아 부국으로 떠오르기까지 이야기를 듣고있자면 진짜 흥미진진. 만다린 문화권+ 영어 문화권이 섞인 나라라니! 내가 지금 지내고 있는 리치몬드랑 비슷 한 것 같기도(리치몬드는 칸토니즈가 더 우세). 뭔가 직장만 해결 되었다면 난 여기서 적응 해 살았을 듯한 느낌이 뽝!! 오는데 이건 뭐 다 가봐야 아는 거지 ㅎㅎ 교토 가려고 계획짜다가 급 싱가프로르로 선회했는데 아주 기대가 된다. 크힝 😃

Just a few common errors I've noticed reading K-Drama fics.

If you write English fics for K-Dramas and like to use some Korean words in them, I think it might not hurt to note these:

- "어머 (omo)" is an exclamation used by women, not men.

- Technically, "(name) + ah/yah" is not a form of endearment but a way of addressing someone in an informal tone. If a younger person uses it to an older one, it sounds insulting and/or patronizing. (Whenever I see it in a fic, I always mutter to myself, 'What are you, his dad?')

- Likewise, calling someone "(full name)" only with no title is rude if done by a younger person to an older one. Yes, it sometimes happens in canon, but not under normal circumstances (e.g. when the younger is furious, when the older is in danger, etc.).

- "야 (yah)," is also something normally not used by a younger person to an older one. If it is used so, it can be interpreted to "fight me" or "hey, asshole!"

- "저자 (jeo-ja)" and "작가 (jak-ga)": Both can be translated to "author/writer," but when referring to an occupation, the latter should be used. The former is for "written by" or "the author of (publication)."

“미국에서 가게를 운영하다가 그 가게를 팔았어. 잔금을 치루는 날 열쇠까지 다음 주인에게 넘기고 나왔지. 집에가서 짐 정리를 하고 있는데 어머 내가 3만 5천달러인가를 가게 서랍에 그냥 두고 온 거야. 그때가 새벽 1~2시 사이였거든.어떡해. 100km로 밟아서 가게까지 달렸어. 내가 과속을 하니까 뒤에 삐용삐용하면서 경찰이 금방 붙더라고. 상향등도 깜빡깜빡 키면서 영화처럼 말이야. 근데 나는 가게에 두고 온 내 돈이 더 급해서 멈출 수가 없었어. 그렇게 쫓기면서도 별의 별 생각이 다 들더라고. 가게에 도착해서 차를 세우니까 경찰이 달려와. “너 지금 몇 마일로 달렸는지 알아?”하면서. 그래서 내가 거의 울먹이면서 말했지. “쏘리, 쏘리. 하지만 내가 가게를 판 돈을 저 안에 그대로 두고 왔어" 나는 솔직히 내 사정 안 봐줄 줄 알았어. 그런데 경찰이 먼저 가게로 들어가더니 새 주인을 데리고 나와서 돈이 어디있는지 확인시켜 주더라고. 무사히 돈을 넘겨 받을 때까지 바로 뒤에서 지켜봐주고 말야. 그리고는 얘기하더라고. ‘너 큰일 날 뻔했네. 이번에 티켓은 안 끊을게. 근데 조심해야 해’ 미국은 속도 제한에 엄격하고 경찰이 강해서 크게 혼날 줄 알았거든. 한 밤의 추격전은 그냥 그렇게 끝났어. 너무 고마웠지. 미국에 살면서 기억에 남는 일 중 하나야.”

“I sold the shop I was running in the U.S. On the day I finalized the transaction, I handed the keys over to the new owner and left. That’s how the night I was chased by police ended. I was incredibly grateful. That was one of my most memorable experiences I’ve had while living in the U.S.”

I definitely try to respond to comments! The fact that someone spent time and energy to comment means so much to me, and I want to acknowledge that. I'm not the best at leaving comments, but I'm trying to do it more often as a reader bc I, too, am often dying at how awesome fics are

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

It's probably Meant To Be. Now that I think about it, I might write an extra piece for this fic just bc I feel like being salty lol

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

The Only Light We'll See - The whole fic was just an excuse to write steamy, smutty Linzin and let them have a happy life together. I guess you could argue that the main Linzin and family AU I write could also be one of them, but I haven't completed their story yet in this universe. Tbf, I don't think my Linzin AU has an "ending" but whatever happens, Linzin gets their happy ever after

7. Do you write crossovers?

Right now, I don't. But I was more open to writing crossovers when I was a kid.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I haven't thankfully, I have really awesome and sweet and kind-hearted readers in my circle 💞

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Hell yeah, I fucking do! It's prob one of my fav things to write 😂 Idk what they mean by "what kind" but I've written possessive, romantic and loving, quickies, foreplay, first times, and spontaneous stuff. It's fun and my otps tend to be...super horny vibes

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I haven't, but I would be interested in seeing one of my fics translated!

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! It's Come As You Are with picajc and @alemanriq, and this holds a special place in my heart

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

404 error. I have too many, but for now it's Lin/Tenzin

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Probably Olvídame y Pega La Vuelta just bc I lost the vision for it

15. What are your writing strengths?

I think emotions are a big part of my writing process and it comes through in my fics. I channel my own emotions into my writing and it does leave a more profound impression.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Sometimes I want my writing perfect in the first draft, and it stops me from just enjoying the process. Recently, I've been wanting to write and that has manifested into writing for "results" rather than quality. I mean, I still try to write my best and for the fun of it. It's just that work sucks my energy and the time I have left for myself is recharging 😭

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I need more context with this question. Does this mean if I do something like this:

Lin and Tenzin raised their brows at the girl with the electronic device.

"어머, 죽겠다! 린베이퐁과 텐진 진짜 앞에 있다," she said aloud, though the language is not her mother tongue. "어떡해...인스타로 올리겠지"

In general, I would be open to it because it can open up new pathways for writing

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I don't think I have one. For the most part, if I want to write for a fandom, I just do it lol

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Choices, Chances, Changes. I swear a divine force guided me into writing this bc I was so compelled to bring it to life. The updates were posted every few days, and the story was completely written in 6 months.

There were 21 chapters.

Also, it was the first fic I completed in like 14 years (omg I sound old now 💀)

위 영상을 시청하고 개인적으로 좀 놀람. 스몰토크는 나만 못하는 줄 알았지, 상당수 한국인이 그럴 줄은 몰랐기 때문에.

특히 2분 54초에서부터 하시는 말씀. "(엘리베이터에서) 한국 사람이 타자나요? 한인회 피크닉에서 봤어! (전에 한 번) 만난 사람이에요. 근데 딴 데 쳐다봐요."라는 대목… 여기에서 '한인회 피크닉 → 밀롱가'로 바꾸면 딱 내 얘기.

하지만 스몰 토크 못하는 사회 안에서도 내가 좀 유별나기 때문에 위로 내지는 안심할 상황은 아니다.

나를 사석에서 본 사람 중엔 믿지 못할 수도 있겠지만 이십 대 땐 말을 잘하는 편이긴 했다. 그땐 세상 모든 게 신기했고, 술 마시고 처음 취해 보니 기분도 짱 좋았고, 생명 에너지(=리비도)도 넘쳐났으니까.

마흔 살 넘어가니 모든 게 식상하고 재미 없어지고, 세대가 바뀌면서 내 유머 감각은 구식이라며 홀대받자 자신감이 줄더만.

게다가 덕후짓 부작용으로 관심사가 매니악해지자 스몰 토크에 등장하는 일상 언어에 피로감을 느끼게 됐고, 설상가상 도사짓 한답시고 명상을 오래 했더니 말수가 저절로 줄고.

홀로 도 닦으며 살던 어느날 문득 이러다 정신병 걸리겠다 싶어 다시 속세(?)로 기어 나와 두 가지를 실행에 옮겼다. 우선 방치했던 클라리넷 꺼내 아마추어 오케스트라를 찾았고, 덕질 마무리해서 책 쓰고 난 뒤 십 년 가까이 등지고 있던 땅고판엘 왔더니, 다소 경박하고 까불대던 내 성격이 완전히 바뀌었음을 뒤늦게 앎.

밀롱가를 가면 사람들이 (지난주에도 만났을 거면서 마치 몇 년 만에 본 것처럼) 반가운 표정으로 "언니~", "동생~"하며 인사한 뒤 자리 잡고 앉아 스몰 토크를 끝없이 이어가는 게 신기하더라고.

나 같은 사람은 이른바 '정보 교환'이 일어나지 않는 긴 대화엔 금방 흥미를 잃어버리는 고질병이 있다.

내가 처음 출판한 책 제목은 '그 남자의 무술 이야기'인데, 당시엔 혼신을 다해 쓰긴 했어도 지금 읽으면 허접한 문장 땜에 화끈거릴 거 같아 애써 외면하는 편. 반면에 그때는 말빨이 그다지 딸리지 않았던 거 같다. 지금은 글빨이 올라간 대신 말빨이 줄었고. 그래서 '말빨 + 글빨의 총량은 불변이 아닐까?'란 말도 안 되는 상상까지…

사실은 지금도 같은 분야 덕후를 만나면 말이 많은 편이긴 하다. 아마추어 오케스트라 지휘하시는 분도 약간 말수가 적은 편이지만 유럽고전음악 레파토리가 넓은 클라리넷 전공자라서 매우 유익한 대화를 나누곤 한다.

아무래도 땅고판에서 제일 말수가 적다. 우선 내가 땅고 춤에 접근하는 방식은 '명상적 걷기 + 태극권 + 요가' 수련 성과가 얼마나 통할지 관심이 집중돼 있는 반면, 거의 모든 땅고인은 "어느 선생의 무슨 수업이 좋았다 or 별로다"라는 개인 소감 얘기를 많이 할 수밖에 없단 점에서.

그리고 "너 춤 많이 늘었더라?", "어머 정말??" 같은 대화를 듣고만 있어도 왠지 좀 무안하게 느낀다.

땅고 음악의 경우에도 todotango.com, tango.info, 구글을 검색해서 작곡 시기, 작곡 및 작사가, 가사, 선율, 악단 등을 모두 조사, 정리하는 삽질을 지금도 틈틈이 하고 있는데, 이 과정에서 알게 된 에피소드를 나 나름 스몰 토크랍시고 몇몇 지인에게 시도해 봤더니 반응이 시큰둥하길래 포기. 아마도 땅고 음악을 '춤추기에 좋은 것과 별로인 것'으로만 구별하는 게 아닐까 짐작.

얼마 전 개인 출판한 '댄서스 하이' 중 '반전'은 이 같은 내 처지를 떠올리다 지은 거. 문제점을 인지하고는 있지만 쉰 살 넘긴 중년남이 자기 반성한답시고 여태까지 못 했던 거 잘하려고 하면 에너지 낭비에 비효율만 증가할 거 같고. 썰렁한 결론은 그냥 하던 거나 잘 하자.

남편은 사고를 치지 마라고 하였다. 아침 시간은 그렇게 흘러갔다. 오전, 남편을 회사에 보내고 남은 설거지를 한 후, 나는 일터인 마트로 향했다. 월급 156만원짜리 일터이다. '직업에 귀천은 없다지만, 결혼전 일터인 출판서(로망띠끄를 제외한 모든 것.)에 비하면 노동은 힘들고 업무는 많다.' 근무 중인 마트네 노총에서는 잡무가 많다고 판결을 내렸다. 그 후, 월급 명세서에는 근무외 수당, 연차 수당 1만원이 매년에 붙었다. 1년을 계속 일한 값을 한달로 계산하면 8750원이다. 옛날이나 지금이나 물가는 짜다. 오전 9시 반경 금주는 포스기 앞에 선다.

"오늘 아침엔 뭔일로 김부장이 멀쩡해."

같이 일하는 선옥이 물었다.

"멀쩡해, 왜 고주망태가 아니고."

"어, 아니고."

선옥이 답했다.

"엄마야, 그럼 김부장 wife 집에 왔는 갑다."

"어머!! 벌써, 이번엔 빠르다. "

"엄마, 그러냐?"

금주가 대답한다.

"엄마, 그러네."

"엄마야? 요번에는 일찍 끝났는 갑다."

"맞다."

선옥의 맞장구가 일품이다.

"저번엔 일신기업 미스킴이었고, 이번엔 우리은행 미스 리이~란다."

"지랄을 한다."

"아이고"

금주가 집에서 가져온 물병을 꺼내 마신다. 물이 쓰다. '김부장의 아내인 계옥의 입맛도 이처럼 쓰겠지.'하고 금주는 잠시 생각한다. 몇 년전인가, 금주에게도 이러한 일이 생길뻔하였다. 아마도 3년전인, 2020년경 가을, 야유회에서였다. - 산목마트 금수산, 가족 대 야유회 -프랭카드가 금수산 입구에 커다랗게 걸렸다. 웅집 인원은 다해서 36명이었다. 그 중에 금주의 남편인 성우도 끼여 있었다.

"뭐하러 나까지."

야유회 개최 사실에 성우는 여느 때처럼 무뚝뚝하게 대답을 넘겼다.

"하루, 이틀 가나."

"그럼, 또 뭐 입고 가노."

"아, 마~. 아무거나 입고 가. 야유회 가는 데 옷 살일있나."

"그래도, 나 또 개최사할 거 아이가. "

그 말 끝에 성우가 씨익 웃는다.

"공무원 생색 오래도 가네. "

금주가 웃는다.

부모가 반대하는 만 27세의 결혼이었다. 고등학교 문예부 회장인 성우와 특별활동 시간에 회장, 부회장으로 만나, 대학 4학년때 서면의 고시학원에서 재회하였다. 행정학과를 졸업한 그는 졸업 3년만인 2009년도에 좌천동 수정1 주민센타에 발령을 받는다. 사회학과를 나온 금주는 같은 해 행정고시에서 낙방하였다. 몹시도 우울한 날이었다.

"나랑 결혼할래?"

"미친 놈, 지랄하네. 니 지금 불난데 부채질하나?"

금주가 학원 독서실 짐을 정리하는 성우의 머리를 꼭 쥐어 박았다.

"나는 말이다. 성우야"

금주가 의자에서 내려와 성우의 목에 팔을 두른다.

"꼭 계장님이 되어서 우리 아빠의 못 다한 꿈을 이루어 줄 거다. "

"니가 머슴아가?"

"콩" 성우가 금주의 머리에 알밤을 날린다.

"그래도 꼭 계장님이 될 거다. 내는 장녀 아니가"

금주가 자신에 목을 두르고 있는 성우의 팔을 고개를 돌려 빼낸다.

"계장님인 모르겠고, 계장님 부인은 되게 해 줄 테니까, 나랑 살제이~."

성우가 금주의 머리를 쓰다듬으며 말했다.

그 뒤, 금주는 정말로 계장님 부인이 되었다.

성우의 목소리가 금수산 앞마당에 울려 퍼진다. 벌써 5년째의 일이다.

"2022년 산목마트 제 15회 가족 야유회!! 이 기쁨 자리에 와 주신 산목마트 17명의 직원분들과 그 가족분들을 진심으로 환영합니다. 그리하여, 옳곧게, 신선하게, 그리고 반듯하게를 사칙으로 삼고 이 좌천서 수정1동에 2007년에 자리를 잡는 우리 산목마트는 2007년 개업이래, 꾸준한 성장과 직원교육, 손님들을 향한 질 좋은 서비스로 2021년 1만 2천 가입 고객수를 돌파한 중소마트류기업으로, 매년 신입사원 환영회, 가족대상 체육대회, 가을 산악회 etc.과 사랑을 머금은 미소로 항상 고객들을 향해 따뜻한 서비스를 제공한 우리 산목마트 직원분들과 그 가족분들을 위한 야유회를 개최하고 있습니다. 많은 박수와 환영 부탁드립니다. 저는 오늘 사회를 맡은 산목마트 직원 김금주의 남편 이성우입니다. 오늘 하루 우리 사장님이신 진면목 사장님의 감사 아래 정말 즐거운 하루 되시길 부탁드립니다."

성우의 개축사에 이은 자기 소개에 우례와 같은 박수가 쏟아진다.

"짝!!짝!!짝!!"

젤 처음 열린 행사는 수건돌리기였다. 술례는 가위바위보에서 진 김사현, 김부장이었다. 그의 처인 계옥은 7번의 가위, 바위, 보에서 진 김부장이 부끄러워 전교 1등인 아들 우영을 자꾸 쳐다 보았다. 우영은 "그럴 수도 있죠. 뭐."하고 대수롭지 않게 답했다.

게임은 시작되었다.

"신데렐라는 어려서, 부모님을 잃고요.~~~.."

술례를 부르는 노래는 시작되었다. 김부장은 동그랗게 두른 35명의 사람들 뒤를 걷기도 뛰기도 하면서 다음 술례를 생각하였다.

"돌담길 따라 ~ ~ ~."

김부장이 지목한 사람은 자신의 아들인 우영이었다. 우영은 다리 사이에 영어단어장을 끼고 있었는데, 그리하여, 김부장이 자신을 지목한 사실을 재빨리 알아채지 못 했는데, 그 때 그런 그에게 팔을 살짝 건들려 우영이 술례가 된 사실 알려 준 재무과에 강사미대리의 모습이 사현에 눈에 들어와 버렸다. 김부장은 그 날, 점심 시간에 직원 도시락으로 싸온 김밥을 나눠주던 강사미대리에게로 가서 "하나 더 줘봐요. 강대리."하고 자신의 마음을 넌지시 건냈는 데, 아무렇지않게 김부장의 은박접시 위에 김밥 3개를 놓아주던 강사미 대리와 김부장의 스캔들이 산목마트에 뜬 것은 3개월 뒤에 일이었다.

강사미와 김사현부장이, 금수산 산목마트 야유회에서 같은 돗자리에 앉은 것은 그로부터 딱 30분 뒤의 일이었는 데, 불행히 그 장면은 금주의 눈에 띄었다. 금주는 그 날 강사미 대리와 김부장이 손을 잡는 장면을 3번 목격한다. 금주는 바로 수돗가로 가서 수도꼭지를 틀어 물바켓스에 "콸콸" 쏟아지는 찬물을 받아 차디찬 두 손을 빡빡 문질러 씻었다. 그리고 열 손가락에 묻은 물기를 탁탁 털어내어 손수건 대신 수돗꼭지에 걸쳐진 노란~헹주의 물기를 쪼옥, 짜서 열 손가락에 묻은 물기를 탈탈 닦아낸다.

"물 튀잖아요."

수돗꼭지에서 돌아서려는 금주를 사람이 막아선다.

"물 튀잖아요."

순간적으로 금주의 입에서 탁 소리가 난다. 자신을 친 사람을 알아 본 금주가 사람을 살~ 밀치며 말한다.

" 더럽잖아요. 어딜 만져요. "

그 사람은 재무과 강사미 대리였다.

"어머, 죄송해요. 금주씨."

금주를 알아 본 사미가 말했다. '더럽다.' 사미와 마주 선 순간, 금주는 이 말이 생각났다. '더럽다.'

KOREAN FILLER WORDS

Um.. you know... like... well... I mean... 😅 I just can't get the words out It seems

Anyways In case you don't know what filler words are allow me to "fill" you in🤣

When you are trying to remember a word or remember what you were about to say you use filler words. In English for example, we use "Uhm" but actually in Korean they don't say "um" the way we do. A few more examples are "like" or "well" or "you know"

I included a few "sentence starters" in this post as well. Which basically means you can start a sentence with it or you can begin a conversation easily by using it.

"Honestly speaking, blah blah blah"

"Of course! blah blah blah"

"Anways... blah blah"

You get the Idea...

Sentence Starters & Filler Words:

> when your speaking your plans for today

지금은 - right now

> talking about something happening right now

If you want to say "I mean" or "I meant to say" there is not special word. simply pause for a second and start your sentence over (people will know)
