Okay Spooky, PLEASE tell us about the Broken Shell AU lore (when you have the time of course). We've been seeing little bits of it for so long!

OHH, BROKEN SHELL AU MY BELOVED OLDIE

It must be I think the first or second AU I ever made for this game some years ago. It's the classic post-embrace the void ending AU.

Hornet, although reluctant and wary at first, helps The Hollow Knight and nurses them back to health in a little make-shift but in the Greenbath area, close to the Forgotten Crossroads for easy access to the hot springs which they used to heal. Why there? Idk, I think I just liked the greenery.

THK passes out for a good few days while Hornet takes care of them and when they finally wake up, despite being in an extreme amount of pain, unable to see and afraid, they still insisted on acting hollow. Slowly though, they recover, at least physically, and all the while she's taking care of them Hornet's also running all around the kingdom looking for Ghost and taking care of other things now that people are recovering and the dreamers are awake.

Once they've recovered just a little more though, something starts pulling on THK to go deeper into the kingdom, and when they can move finally they decide to follow that calling. Hornet of course tries to drag them back, but they're surprisingly strong even when injured and eventually, they end up at the junk pit. It starts with a little skirmish as both THK and Ghost are startled before they calm the hell down and realise who the other is. Hornet steps in, happy to see Ghost again even though they appear to be a shade now, and attempts to break the awkwardness by introducing them to THK - only for Ghost to float over and hug them, much to THK's surprise too as they had expected it to hate them or at the very least be angry.

So, long story short, the three siblings end up living together, eventually Ghost gets their shell fixed up by the mask maker, and they choose a name for The Hollow Knight - which was Shelly (because at this point I felt too mean calling them Hollow, so Shelly it is). They also bullshit about THK dying because Shelly does NOT want to deal with the emotional turmoil of meeting the Dreamers or Ogrim or literally anybody they know, at least while they're still recovering.

Eventually, though, they learn the truth, and much to Shelly's surprise and relief aren't angry with them.

Much later on, the question of who the next monarch should be arises and they eventually end up with Shelly being the only legitimate candidate (Hornet couldn't be thanks to some political mess between Deeonest and Hallownest, and Ghost would rather go through the Path of Pain 1000 times over than be a ruler of anything). At first, Shelly is terrified about the prospect and refuses, but after getting a ton of reassurance and with the promise of getting help from the Dreamers, they agree.

They couldn't bring the palace back from the dream realm so they just built a new one, a much smaller one in the City of Tears.

But it's mostly a classic healing arc AU for the three siblings tbh, mostly THK.

Also, it's worth noting that Shelly is disabled. They're completely blind in their right eye and can see some blurred shapes and light in the left one, which is the result of living with the fuckin sun in their head for god knows how long. They also suffer from chronic pain and back problems, and at their worst, they cannot take care of themself or even get up from their bed without assistance. They obviously don't have an arm either but eventually get a prosthetic one made for them. They still can hold up on their own in a fight - they're a god, after all - and even learned to fight by relying on their hearing rather than sight, but they're still not as strong or agile as they once were.

The bow covering their eye was from Hornet. When they were recovering she tied their bandages into a bow to cheer them up and they liked it so much they decided to do that with silk after their shell/eye healed. They also have a good relationship with the dreamers and even develop a fatherly relationship with Lurien, because they deserve a good father figure god damn it.

Oh, Ghost also eventually becomes Shelly's knight when they grow up. Hornet obviously takes over as the queen of Deepnest eventually and ever since then Hallownest's and Deeonest's relationship couldn't have been better, considering their rulers are siblings and get along swimmingly.

They just accepted that they'll never have a #relationship with their parents and moved on. It did ate up at them at first but they're mostly fine now

Hi hi again Justafriendlystranger! <3 I've missed you!

1) "Oh.. yes I do have parents. As for my opinion on them..I don't really like them. They were always too harsh on me. Too strict. It was suffocating always trying to live up to their standards. But I suppose I should at least be grateful for how they brought me up--in some aspects. They taught me to never show vulnerability,if I do then I'm considered 'weak' and 'not fitting to be the future ruler'. I guess,that's why I'm able to stand my ground and not be pushed around like some sort of..weakling.

*sigh* "But..they have cared for me. Fed me. And well,did the bare minimum. So..I don't think I have any good reasons to hate them."

Elios:

"This may surprise you but I,in fact have! Not to brag but I do have plenty of ladies falling for me! ....I'm just playing with 'ya, I have only been in one relationship! I know,pathetic right?"

But the thought of what he could've been if his past self didn't go through what he had gone through just brings him so much pain.

The Freedom of Expression Ep 15 - Bill to extend prosecutor's mandatory retirement age is 'inviting the deterioration of public order'.

K: Hi, this is Dir en grey's Kaoru, starting this episode of the Freedom of Expression. Joe san, Tasai san, lets try again this week.

J, T: Yes, lets.

K: Well...

Kami: Lets

K: Oh? He's here all of a sudden.

J: Right from the start all of a sudden. He's at the forefront today.

Kami: No, I just thought I'd show that Im here.

J: Oh, I see.

K: You're here, right.

J: Like, 'Im here, Im here'

Kami: Yes, just informing you of my presence.

K: Well, this week lets start with you please, Joe

J: Yes. Well, firstly I'd like to go with this topic...'Celebrities say "NO" to Abe's personnel. A bill to extend the mandatory retirement age of prosecutors is 'inviting the deterioration of public order'. Perhaps due to the influence of the many people, including celebrities, who took part in an online protest on Twitter, a government bill to extend the mandatory retirement age of prosecutors is currently being shelved by the Diet. It is merely being shelved, this does not mean it will be thrown out. However, if the mandatory retirement age is actually ammendened, what kind of influece would it have? This is the topic today.

So this is an evolving story. The person at the centre of it is chief prosecutor Kurokawa from the Tokyo High Public Prosecutor's Office. He was caught betting on Mahjong, *T laughs* and has since announced his resignation. So, this already confusing situation has descended even further into chaos, its almost like a movie, or manga plot. I thought this news was incredible. Kaoru, have you been following this story?

K: Well, I've seen it, yeah.

J: Have you? Well, many people have been speaking out on Twitter. Regarding this, well, if we were to simply explain the contents of the bill in question...the Prosecutors Office, well, the prosecutors, they are the only ones with the power to indict in Japan.The police can arrest and manage people, but they have no power to indict. In realation to a case, only the prosecutors can make an indictment, either guilty or innocent, and if guilty, they can decide the appropriate sentence in court. If the prosecutors don't indict a person, even if they are arrested, the power to arrest still exists...that person wouldn't be a 'criminal', which makes whether or not the prosecutors decide to indict a very important issue. I think we talked about this in a previous episode, but if we say the conviction rate is 99.9%, almost everyone who is arrested will be found guilty. So whether or not the prosecutors will indict is pretty much decided upon arrest. Then, in relation to the personnel of the Prosecutors Office, there is this 'Public Prosecutors Office Law', which states that the Prosecutor General has to retire at age 65, and everyone else in the Prosecutors Office has to retire at age 63. However, the current top guy, the Prosecutor General is about to retire, so the question has arisen of who will replace him. Now, usually the Prosecutor General will choose his replacement, but rather than going with the choice of the Prosecutor General, Abe's government said that they wanted this guy Kurokawa to be the next Prosecutor General. The problem is, Kurokawa is one of those who had to retire at age 63, and he retired on the 7th of Feb this year, so they wanted to extend his mandatory retirement age by six months. In that time, the person designated by the current Prosecutor General would have reached his age limit and had to retire. They imagined that with him out of the way, Kurokawa would then automatically succeed to the position of Prosecutor General. But like I already mentioned, according to the law, Kurokawa has to retire at 63, so they pulled out this other law called the 'National Public Service Act', which is...well, prosecutors are also public servants, so according to this Act, if the government decides to, they are allowed to extend the retirement age of a public servant for up to six months. So in pulling this out, they extended Kurokawa's retirement. But if you ask which law comes first, the National Public Service Act, or the Public Prosecutors Office Law...prosecutors are doing special work, with the power to indict, so rather than settling with the generally applying National Public Service Act, the Public Prosecutors Office Law was created intentionally to ensure retirement. In spite of this the govt. have suddenly pulled out this loosly applying legislation, and declared 'We are gonna extend his retirement age! Cause its written in law', and made the six month extention. In contradiction to this there has been a passionate response, 'Isn't that illegal?!' or with regards to the government arbitrarily choosing a potentially advantagous person as top prosecutor, like, 'Can they really do that?!'. Now, at present as for the content which the govt. wants to actually ammend...well, its currently the case that prosecutors have to retire at either 65 or 63, but if that was ammended, a rule would be included to extend the retirement age by three years. If that if happened...this would be after Kurokawa, but if that became legal, and the govt. starting saying, 'This guy gets an extention, that guy gets an extension', the other prosecutors might all start licking the govt.'s boots, and they may no longer be able to handle the many rocky cases in which politicians are caught misbehaving. 1*. There as been much talk about how distasteful this seems.

T: Thats right. And then, it exploded on Twitter, and public opinion has turned against it. And just when we thought the proposal was shelved, the issue exploded again.

J: It did explode again. It wasn't Tokyo Sports who revealed it was it?

T: No, it wasn't. Imagine that!

K: It would be great timing.

J: So, the key figure in all of this, Kurokawa, he gathered some reporters to join him gambling on mahjong, heedless of the corona situation. He loves mahjong anyway, thats a well known story, but this time they played mahjong while gambling on it. So there is also the issue of the leglity of betting on mahjong.

T: Yeah, theres too much information to this story. *the others laugh*

J, K: There is!

J: You lose track of what the problem actually is...

Kami: No, there is only one problem. There is one focus.

J: What is that, in your view, Kami?

Kami: Im very interested in this...What was his rate? *Everyone laughs*

J: What was his rate for betting on mahjong??

K: Of course, of course.

Kami: Thats the only problem.

J: Just that?

Kami: Yes, just that.

T: Do you like mahjong, Kami?

Kami: Yes, I like mahjong. I wondered how much that kind of top class guy would bet on mahjong. Thats the most important thing to me. *T laughing*

T: Thats incredible, Kami.

Kami: Its not written down anywhere.

J: Tokyo Sports could get an exclusive with this.

Kami: Tasai, Tasai...I have a request for Tasai san.

T: Yes, ahh..eh? Ok.

Kami: Isn't there times where all the reporters get together for gatherings or something?

T: Yeh, there is.

Kami: Umm..Could you...

K: Are you gonna ask directly?

Kami: At the reporters club, could you say, 'Im Tasai from Tokyo Sports, I'd like to talk about Kurokawa betting on mahjong...what was his rate?.'..I want you to do that for me.

J: Ahh, he wants you to do it.

T: I'd raise my hand like this, and say 'Im Tasai from Tokyo Sports...'?

Kami: Yes, thats it. And also, isn't there a famous female reporter?

T: Ohh, at Tokyo Shinbun newspaper?

J: Mochizuki san, right?

T: Yeh, Mochizuki san.

Kami: Ahh, yes yes. You'd win against her...if you asked.

T: Ahh, win against Mocchii?

Kami: You would!

J: Well, she's a person of the times isn't she?

T: Yeah. By the way, they say Ebisu Yoshikazu san was caught doing リャンピン*2, which is like 200yen to 1000 points.

J: Oh, so your guilt changes depending on the amount you bet?

T: If its quite a lot, generally in mahjong...

Kami: It doesn't change.... Any betting of money is illegal I think.

J: So if you bet anything, thats it?

T: Strictly speaking..

Kami: Money is money, its not allowed.

J: I see.

T: If you bet money, its illegal, but there are mahjong parlours all over Japan, right? And in reality, there are other kind of speculating entertainment places, like pachinko. So often, when its at a rate like this, the police often just overlook it. They are not trying to disturb illegal entertainment to that extent. For example 500yen to 1000 points, they are kinda just acknowledging that kind of situation now. So even in mahjong parlours, if you express your rate clearly, thats a no-no, but..

J, K: Ahh, ok.

T: If you say 'Im betting at this rate'..Theres kind of a very subtle line, in reality. Strictly speaking, betting even 1 yen is illegal.

Kami: Wasn't there some city's mayor who was accused of betting on mahjong, and he responded, its no fun if you don't bet? *T laughs*

K: There was something like that, yeh.

J: Thats very honest.

Kami: Yeh.

T: Thats right.

Kami: Yeah, I thought the same as him.

T: Ahh, I see..

Kami: Yeh, yeh, yeh.

T: Do you like gambling, Kami?

J But, actually, where do gods play mahjong?

T: Right?!

K: Hehehe

J: Do gods go to mahjong parlours?

Kami: I've been to them. *everyone laughs*

J: This is a vulgar god!

T: Kami, are you good at gambling?

Kami: No, I just like it...but I rarely win.

J, T: *laugh*

K: He doesn't have the knack for it, right?

J: Yeah.

Kami: Not at all.

J: Thats it, he likes it, but he doesn't win.

T: But using his 1000yen hourly earnings like that...

J: Yeah, betting with what little money he has..

T: How sad!

Kami: With mahjong, I always feel like I want to bet more, I want to outbet the others. *3

J: You're the impatient type?

T: You outbet them straight away?

*Everyone laughing*

J: You're impatient.

Kami: Thats right.

K: I see.

T: So in this instance, it can also be explained as a way to divert criticism away from the administration. In short, making Kurokawa's mahjong gambling the focus, attention is diverted away from the government's hard insistence on extending the retirement age. Thats the argument. And in the meantime, the next Prosecutor General could have been already been marked out. In the end, they could end up doing the same thing again.

J: Well, I don't know exactly how this story about Kurokawa's mahjong tournament was leaked, but he was playing with Asahi journalists?...and Sankei journalists, one explanation is that Sankei leaked the story. I mean, if you ask for details, basically in that area around the Diet building, Nagatacho or Kasumigaseki and such, everyone is so close together, that everyone knows everything. Even if they don't show each other, they are all moving to the same beat, so there will always be rumours of this type of thing. If Kurokawa disappears after this, and this happens again to future top prosecutors, they could just be thrown out, so instead they may end up becoming minions of the government.

T: Yeah

J: Its very scary, and like you explained Tasai, Kurokawa san resigned due to this mahjong scandal, so when we look back at this we will see him as a person involved in mahjong gambling, but that isn't actually the real problem here. Its really about forcing the retirement age, the sociology of law to change. I mean Kurokawa san has been a very useful guy to this administration up till now. We can't forget what he was trying to become, and just say 'Ah, the guy who quit due to mahjong!', that was only the final element. If things became like that, it would seem wrong for the distortion of Japan's judicary to end up as a story about mahjong, im a little concerned about that. As for Kurokawa, he resigned, he wasn't fired. So he got a payoff.

T: Thats unforgivable.

J: Yeah, so we also have to think about that.　This is a situation where he really should have been dismissed, but to resign in advance and get his leaving payoff..Id like him to use it all betting on mahjong against Kami. *T laughs*.

K: Ahh, that would be good.

J: Right?

K: Kami would never win!

Kami: No, i couldn't play at such a high rate. No way!

T: If you're not gonna win, right?

Kami: No no no, no way.

T: It would've been a big payoff.

J: It would.

Kami: No, no way.

J: It would work if you really focussed all your power though?

K: Yeah, pile it all up.

J: Yeah! And then lets all go wild at Yakiniku.

T: Yeh, lets go!

Kami: No, I'll lose my money early, so can I go home after that?

K: No, you have to stay till you win.

T: Play until you win.

K: Okay, well on that note..

Kami: If I had to do that..um..

K: What?.....Hm?

J: What did he say?

K: Well, anyway..

Kami: Yes, yesyesyes

K: Yes yes?

Kami: I thought you were about to finish, so..what was it? I forgot what I was going to say.

*Everyone laughs*

J: Make sure you remember what it was by next time, Kami.

Kami: Yeh, ok.

K: Ok, well lets finish here for this week. Please subscribe. Thank you very much.

J, T: Thank you very much.

Code Blue

Chapter 2: Code Blue

The hospital is a messy place... and even messy is its layout. It is easy for people to get lost... what with its vast building, a corridor at every turn, a hospital room at every junction... Harmony Grove was no different, and yet the new batch of interns seemed to have memorized every nook and cranny of the hospital, which room is where, where to find the best espresso machine, and where to sleep after a rough day of work.

It was a rough day for Maya. She worked hard and yet Dr. Jackson was not impressed. She even bought him his favorite coffee and yet she did not seem to win any favors from him.

Maya and her friends were all huddled in the hospital beds in the basement. This was the place where the interns stayed over if they had a late-night shift or were too eager to get the best cases for their morning rounds. Apart from the interns the spiders also seemed to have made it their permanent home. The basement was dimly lit with a single bulb which gave just enough light to make out Maya sitting in her bed with her head on her knees brooding over god knows what.

The hospital beds were nearly empty now. some people were leaving while some people had just started to wake up.

"What happened?" Riona asked Maya

"Yesterday, Dr. Jackson asked me to tell him the post-op care of a patient and I forgot-"

"You forgot! Let me get this straight, you forgot the post op care of your patient" Riona started laughing

"Fuck you!"

"Fuck you huh!" Riona leaned forward to kiss her and started giggling.

"Come on! this is serious! What should I do?"

Riona was just about to answer her when a tall guy interrupted her.

"What do you want Chris? I was just about to say something to her" Riona barked at Chris.

"I... uh..."

"Just out with it!"

The boyish face seemed scared now. "I...uh...I had a case... I thought you...you would like to join me" Chris seemed nervous around Riona.

"What case?" Maya asked him, her curiosity piqued

"The one with the lopsided appendix in Room 104"

"No, no, that is my patient's room, one with the emergency C"

"Uh... I must have misread it" Chris began to rummage through his notes.

"You had a lopsided appendix and you didn't tell me" Riona spoke again. "Give the patient to me, give it to me right now"

"But that is...that is my case" Chris became defensive

"Ohh you piece of..."

And Chris started running and Riona followed suit

The tension eating out at Maya seemed to subside and a hint of a smile began to form.

At least at that moment, she was happy...

"And how are we doing today Mrs. Anderson?" Maya said as she entered Room 104.

"Call me Bella" the mother was leaning on her bed, a book lying on her lap.

"Sure thing Mrs- er Bella. Let me check your vitals first"

"Your pulse seems to be normal... Heart rate is fine... no complications from surgery... We will discharge you soon" Maya said with a smile.

"When can I see my baby?"She asked her almost hopeful for a positive answer.

Maya's face lit up with the mention of the baby.

"Dr. Brown just finished with her checkup. You can see her today only." "Speaking of which, what did you decide to name her"

"I am thinking of Alexandra. It has a nice ring to it. What do you think?"

"I think it's a wonderful name"

"That's good to hear. Well, you can continue your work" Bella picked the book from her lap and started reading.

"Is that Takeshi Nakamura you are reading?" Maya was curious. Nakamura was her favorite author.

"Yes indeed uhh-"

"oh! Maya!"

"The subtlety of his writing is really wonderful. He creates characters in which I can immerse myself. The world he creates is just simply a magnificent read"

"You know Takeshi was the first book I ever read. and it got me hooked. I am a complete bookworm... I have read most of his books but i don't get time now... what with the job and such..."

A thought was nagging behind Maya's mind. The style of saying words... she was familiar with it but... where had she heard it...

"What do you do here Maya?" Bella asked Maya

"Oh! I am an intern here. I just started a few days ago. You know you are my first patient."

"Oh really! That's wonderful."

And suddenly it all clicked inside Maya's head. Could it be...

"Are you the Isabella Anderson as in the writer of Ghost town Mrs. Anderson?"

"Oh well! I am dear."

"Oh my God! Oh my God! I am a huge fan" Maya practically shrieked

"Could you... Could you..."

"Give you an autograph?"

"Yes please!" Maya handed her a paper and a marker.

Bella took the marker in her hand and started to write but stopped suddenly. Her hand reached to her chest

"Bella what happened" There was concern in Maya's voice

Bella fell unconscious...

And the marker fell to the ground.

The heart monitor which was beating normally a few seconds ago started to beep in a monotonous manner.

Maya reached for Bella's hand to feel a pulse. She couldn't find one. She needs to act fast...

Maya reached for the blue button behind Bella and pushed it.

The sirens immediately jumped into action. "Code Blue in Room 104" echoed through the whole hospital. Nurses and hospital staff rushed to the room.

"Where do you want us Doctor?" a nurse took initiative.

Maya had prepared for this kind of emergency the previous night.

Maya thought to herself "I can do this. Life lies in my hands now"

"Okay first, push 5 ccs of epinephrine" Maya pointed towards a nurse

"You prepare the defibrillator. Quick!" Maya asked another nurse.

Maya climbed on top of the bed and started doing chest compressions. "Come on! Come on!"

The nurse handed her the pads. Maya ripped open Bella's gown and placed two pads on her chest.

"Charge to 500. Clear!" A thud but no response.

Maya started to do chest compressions again.

"Charge to 700. Clear!" Another Thud and yet no response.

Again and again, she tried to revive her...

"No! No! No! I will not let you die! Charge to 1000"

"Clear!" She shouted

And a thud.

The heart monitor started beeping slowly.

Maya exhaled a sigh of relief.

Bella was lying on her bed unconscious, the pads still on her chest.

"I'll be back later," Maya said as the nurses began up the cleaning process.

After some time Dr. Jackson and Maya entered the room to see Bella lying on her bed staring at the ceiling.

Dr. Jackson started speaking

"Mrs. Anderson, I am afraid, We have some bad news"

"What is it" Bella's voice was weak.

"We cannot discharge you. You had a sudden cardiac arrest and it has weakened your heart. We have to treat it by surgery"

"Isn't there any other way?"

"There is medication but-"

"Give me the medicine and discharge me"

Maya was shocked.

"You can't. You need to have surgery" Maya said

"Dr. Jackson just said that medication would do. I want to see my baby"

Tears flooded her eyes

"I haven't seen my baby girl since she was born. I don't want that. I want to hold my little angel. What kind of mother am I, not seeing my own baby"

"Bella you do understand-"

Bella was determined. The tears had stopped flowing but she was now the woman who had enough. At that moment she would have done anything for her baby.

"Discharge papers now" Bella's voice rang through the room

"I'll be back"

A dejected Maya left the room to get her papers.

"Here sign them" Maya came back a few minutes later with papers

"Bella-"

"Don't."

That day Isabella Anderson carried a small baby in her arms and placed her foot outside the hospital.

The story has just begun.

Read It For The Pictures 28: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Annual 2018, by a Buttload of Creators

NK: Hello and welcome to Read it For The Pictures, the comic book Blog where we read it for the pictures! I’m Neil Kapit, and with me as always is the man voted Spiciest Shrimp on the Barbie in the Mr. Australia competition ten years running, Dave Clarke! How you doin’ Dave?

DC: Doing good cos we’ve got a special one on his week. We’re talking about special anthology issue for a long running beloved property

NK:You mean Action Comics 1000?

DC: Of course not that may actually bring in some readers. I’m talking about power rangers annual 2018

NK: This comic by Boom Studios was drawn by Artists: Marcus To, Patrick Mulholland, Dylan Burnett, Hyeonjin Kim, Simone Di Meo Writers: Kyle Higgins, Caleb Goellner, Anthony Burch, Adam Cesare, Becka Barnes, and Alwyn Dale. Though I haven’t been reading the new Power Rangers comics, I dunno, there’s a lot to compete with in Action Comics 1000. I mean, we learn the origin of the car on the cover of Action Comics 1 back in 1938. THE CAR!

DC: Sadly this book doesn’t have anything quite so needlessly banal, though it is chock full of confusing continuity.

NK: I thought that was the sole providence of Marvel and DC. Explain.

DC: The reason I thought to pick this is I picked up the 2017 annual on a sale a few weeks ago. It was a bunch of one of stories with weird artists and was pretty great. This however seems to not only setting up an event in the main title, but also building off lore in main title and is involving characters from 5 different unrelated seasons of the show.

NK: So I only ever saw the first Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers as a kid, then matured to real adult comics like X-Force and Bloodstrike, and thus only understood who the characters were in the first chapter by Higgins and To. And for the rest, I had no idea who all these colorful yet ultimately indistinguishable characters were running around and fighting. For one solemn moment I learned what it was like to be you, listening to me.

DC: Yes folks, this is the episode I’ve been threatening to do for ages where I nerd out about Power Rangers Thank god they don’t make Metal Gear comics.

NK: I am pleased to note that even though there's six different artists here, there isn't nearly as much tonal whiplash as I'd expect. Since this is a collection of short stories that all tie together to set up the "Shattered Grid" crossover, it's important that they maintain cohesion, even across different eras and universe. Aside from inevitable questions like "who the fuck is the guy with the dog's head", I wasn't lost in terms of basic narrative flow

DC: That’s one of the stranger things about it, to my eyes at least, is how conventional each of the artists are. At least compared to this in last years annual: So how much did you get of the “plot”, such as it were.

NK: TLDR: Drakkon, the Green Ranger Tommy’s evil parallel universe counterpart, is going across different worlds stealing different artifacts of power from different sets of teenagers with attitude. And other than the Power Rangers SPD sequence, they all end with “To Be Continued In Shattered Grid”, because that totally makes me feels as though this $8.00 comic was a justified purchase,

DC: Yeah I didn’t look at the price tag before picking this one.

NK: Well I've got you paying for a lot of shittier comics over the course of this project, so this is karmic payback to me.

DC: Seeing as I’m now firmly in the having to defend this position I think the cartooning in the RPM section is pretty solid. Ninja Steel section also does some very nice environment shots.

NK: It did break the common problem with licensed comic artists doing painfully obvious photo references of the actors and actresses. Not many of these actors are big-time celebrities, notwithstanding my shrine to Johnny Yong Bosch (which is much more for his anime dubbing work), so I can see why they'd do it from scratch. Still, if I knew who any of these guys were, I guess I'd feel their personalities were captured?

DC: I guess the reason this annuals exists is that whatever interdimensional epic they have planned for the main title doesn’t give enough attention to characters outside the core cast and this is a way to do that. That being said I still think they should just do an RPM title and not tease us like this

NK: And your other pick for this week was "Hunt for Wolverine", another extra-priced special that was a prologue for a larger story and did even less to advance its own plot ( flashback to Wolverine's funeral, then fight scene over Wolverine's grave, then the X-Men finding out Wolverine's not actually dead). So...bullet dodged?

DC: What can I say, I have expensive terrible taste :P I did actually start reading the Power Rangers B-title and it’s really good, so chances are I will eventually be catching up with this story. Can’t imagine I’ll have much luck in getting you to join me.

NK: I feel like this isn’t entirely fair to the multiple artists and writers, because there wasn’t anything notably bad in this comic, each one did the impressive task of setting up their respective Rangers’ unique world, and they managed to synchronize with each other surprisingly well. Other than Marcus To (the first artist, who’s done work for the Big Two) I didn’t recognize any of the names, perhaps owing to Boom Studios having less pull to get star artists, even for small part of a book this pricey

DC: Weirdly I thought the first part was the weakest art wise, though it was the most just friends hanging out and chatting. Besides this panel.

NK: It does capture the dynamism and meticulous choreography of the low-budget Sentai footage that they imported from Japan to fill out half of the Power Rangers show.

DC: I have this theory that the Power Rangers, like the Justice League, are very hard to make look good because they’re all different bright colours. The exception being the original mmpr team because black is more flexible a colour than green.

NK: Pistols at dawn, sir. They also have white as a unifying color though.

DC: You use a tonne of neutral colours to break up the brighter primaries though.

NK: OK, I've got a lot of love for Dan Mora after he worked with Grant Morrison on Klaus, so I may have to check this out

DC: Ohh.. and as great as the cover art for this annual was it features Super Samurai Red, Time Force Pink and Dino Charge Blue, who don’t appear in this issue. That’s what it needed: more teenagers with attitude.

NK: They could've brought in the 2016 movie Rangers, for the three of us that loved it.

DC: This shattered grid event isn’t over yet.

NK: Fingers crossed for autistic Billy.

DC: One final thought on this annual and Power Rangers in general: Power Rangers is everything that grant Morrison wanted the DCU to be. Constant variation on a few archetypes (see the three Batman arc, Batman inc, superman 1,000,000), always doing completely new things with the formula while also being reverent to the legacy of the franchise, never stopped being primarily for kids and completely impenetrable to newcomers. Whether you take that as a compliment to Power Rangers or an insult to Grant Morrison is up to you

1. Which is your favorite of the fics you've written for X fandom?

Ohhh noooo i don’t want to answer this gfjkfld i love them all D: i don’t have a favourite D: golly. I’m uh... just.... onto question two.....

2. Favorite piece overall?

FRICK this sure didn’t get any easier did it djkfgl GOD. Okay. FINE. Okay. I don’t know if its truly my favourite but purely because of how proud i am of it, because of how long the story was with me, as i expounded previously, i’m just gonna say I Am the Blinking Light. Idk that fic is my child whom i nurtured for 6 years.

5. What is an image/set of images that you're particularly proud of?

Ohh um you know something that i’m very :) about is from a little nouis drabble i did based on Niall showing up at Louis’ house after reading the Observer article and there’s a moment (cough it lasts most of the fic cough) when Niall is just wrapped around Louis at his front door and its kind of exposed but Niall doesn’t even care because it matters so much to him that Louis feel the love in that moment and i just love that picture in my head

11. If I'm showing off just one of your pieces to someone, which one should it be?

For frick’s........... how many times must i be asked to pick between my children alright well!!!!! Right now for who i am as a writer in this very moment i would like you to show Wear Your Fur because it’s truly the epitome of what i’m looking for in fic right now, and i would like it to stand as an example of what i want to put out into the world too.

13. Are there any things that might have happened in any of your stories, but you changed them at the last minute? (So-and-so dies, they don't actually kiss, main character has long extended ballet-based dream sequence, etc.)

Hmm my instinct is to say no because i’m a heavy planner. I don’t always plan on paper but i think about stories for months before i start writing them - i like them to exist in my head for a while so i can let them manifest, so by the time it comes to writing there aren’t a lot of surprises. Any surprises that do happen are on a small scale, like a bit of dialogue or a reaction to something.

14. Would you want to write canon for any of your fandoms (like be hired by showrunner to do an episode)? Which one?

Well as this is the only fandom i write for rn and it isn’t... a fictional world..... that’s not particular possible. The last fandom i wrote for before 1d was Agents of SHIELD and i don’t think i have the confidence to even attempt writing on an episode for that show. It’s... too above me and i want professionals to do and let me consume their amazing media.

16. 3 favorite comments ever received on fanfic.

Man i have received some of the loveliest comments on my fics, i legit go back and read them all the time??? They make me feel so warm and good in my own skin???? I can’t pinpoint 3 individuals comments but all the comments left by @alligatornyc @1000-directions and ANY feedback that i ever get from @seschat means the world to me and nourishes me. Seriously tho if you ever left me a comment on ao3 just know i treasure it and reread it.

17. Any mean comments? How'd you deal with it? Who laid the smackdown?

I’ve never had a mean comment before! I’ve had a couple of comments of people who wanted more information at the end of the story which is the OPPOSITE of a bad comment because it makes they’re eager for more content!! So i guess that’s not really an answer!! If i did get a mean comment i’d probably just reply saying thanks for reading and sorry they were disappointed lol?? There’s a million fics out there, they’ll find what they want somewhere else.

18. If you could go back and revise one of your older stories, which would it be?

No i wouldn’t go back and revise any of them, i’m happy with all of them and they deserve to exist as they are. I’ll use my energies on the fics that have not yet come to fruition!

19. Do you make up scenes at work/on the bus/at the gym? Who are the characters that pop up the most? Do you write them down?

I try to compose scenes wherever i am, it doesn’t matter? Whatever fic i’m working on, whoever’s POV is being told is the character i think about at the time. And i do often make notes in my phone either of plot points or if i come up with a sentence/dialogue i particularly like.

Fry writes an anonymous newspaper comic series about this human from 1999 who wakes up 1000 years in the future, gets a job at his nephews delivery company, and while struggling to adjust to this new life, finds himself falling in love with a robot friend he made along the way. His work gets heralded for its authenticity and honest presentation. It becomes an iconic forward step in the normalizing of human/robot relationships in Earth's phobic society, and the mystery surrounding its (1/2)

(2/2) creator only enhances its positive impact. Of course there are the people who dislike the strip once it comes to mainstream light (since newspapers are such a rare medium in the 31st century it was only by word of mouth that it grew popular, and also the only reason it was ever originally published), but there always are. Years on in Fry’s life, when he and Bender actually are together and later get married, he publishes a compilation of all the strips and reveals himself as the creator.

i rambled on below about this because it’s such a sweet and perfect idea bless u ilu

fry working so hard on his art and comics and seeing there’s a space in a local newspaper for a comic series and he’s like yeah!! i bet i can do this!!

and then his head is full of thoughts of what it’ll be about and maybe he should tell bender because he’s actually always supported his comics…..

and then he looks up from the newspaper to see bender inspecting something in the fridge, and bender looks over and comments on how fry is such an old man reading the newspaper, and fry smiles and knows exactly what to make his comics about

and he gets excited and nervous and excitedly nervous about his comics being printed and he decided to keep it his secret and wonders if his friends will pick up on who the comics are by…. but only hermes reads the printed paper and sticks to the advice and stock sections, and the others only read the first couple pages of the online version

(and, even though fry hasn’t really tried to disguise the identities of the comic characters well, his style is simplistic, and he’s changed the names and hair colours and he did give leela’s character two eyes, so he can see why they wouldn’t recognise the stories in the comics even if they did read them)

but then they (ironically) read the articles in the paper about the comics that are in the very same paper, talking about it being a clever idea and a funny yet interesting look into two words colliding, and they start actually checking out the comics page

fry finds it helpful for making a note of fond memories or important thoughts or discoveries he had, and it’s a place for him to explore his feelings for his best friend, and he gets to live out his fantasies by having the main character and his robot best friend get together and live as a couple and giving it a good ending because the fans deserve it and he hopes maybe he does too

and he hasn’t any of the 31st centuries stereotypes or thoughts of robots, he sees them as equal and interesting and complex and especially sees the friendship of a robot as so important, and these open minded views are supported by a lot of pro robot and pro robosexuality groups and fry is so surprised but he’s like ‘wow, hey, i just wanted to publish my drawings and now they’re out there doing good things!’

leela probably picks up on it being fry, even though she’s sure he would’ve said something…. and she’s surprised by how good the drawing quality is…. so she keeps quiet but reads in surprise as she sees the main character talking about his love for his robot best friend

and after a while she just Has to say something because it’s so hard staying quiet when amy, bender and the professor muse on who the creator is and what they’re like and fry wants her to keep it secret as it got more personal than he intended and he’s kinda worried about bender’s reaction now

so leela doesn’t tell the others (although zoidberg has been reading the papers thrown into his dumpster for years and has followed the whole comic and would recognise fry’s style anywhere) and she helps him plan out future comic strips and zoidberg joins them to talk about the impact of the story and how they’re glad fry did this

and fry has never been one searching for lots of fame and glory, so he’s happy having the support of his friends and the knowledge he’s made a difference as he sees people talking about their love for the creator and awarding medals in their honour, it’s cool knowing people want to thank him so much for just being himself

and then years pass, bender realises fry’s feelings, fry realises bender has felt the same for a long time too, not much changes as they’ve been a married couple living together basically since the day they moved in together anyway, but things are so good and they can get married and there’s so many more robosexual couples around, including gay ones

and fry sees one of his old comics published for an anniversary of its creation in the paper (which he has even more right to read now that he’s more of an older guy) and laughs to himself and cuts it out and sticks it on the fridge

and it doesn’t take bender long to be intruiged by this new thing on the fridge and he’s like ‘ohh, i remember everyone talking about these, hey, it reminds me of us, haha, these weren’t so bad, for art’ and fry is like ‘i thought i told you i made those’ and bender gasps and demands to know everything

and it’s totally benders idea to reprint the comics and make them into a book maybe, and they could add in the story of their lives to match and what happened with them, and he’s so enthusiastic about frys work and fry loves it

but he’s like ‘why are you so dedicated to doing this?’ and bender gives him a look as though it’s obvious and is like ‘everyone should know it was my husband who created these and changed the world and is the best person in the universe, duh’

and so finally the creator of the comics is revealed and leela calls him to say she’s proud and always loved how things went just as he’d hoped, and amy smacks him in the arm next time he sees her and is like ‘all this time you never told me it was you! i can’t believe you fry!’ and zoidberg gets a free copy of the new book and is delighted

but the thing that makes fry happiest of all is that bender has only once mentioned the money they might make from the comic collection, instead all he talks about is fry getting the recognition and support he deserves, and fry needing to be investigated for psychic powers as he predicted them getting married and everything, and how he’s really proud and wants more comics just for him of them doing stuff together

and fry feels like the luckiest person in the universe because doing those comics helped him realise his love for bender and express it through his art and now he can do that every day to his face because he got the happy ending he hoped for

Lego has finally followed up its amazing Porsche 911 GT3 Technic kit with a kit that's arguably more amazing, and certainly has more pieces. It's the 2018 Bugatti Chiron, and the 1/8 scale kit features 3,599 pieces, which is nearly 1,000 more than the 911. Those pieces make up an impressively detailed model just on looks alone. The blocky LED lights up front, the wide light bar at the rear and the trademark horseshoe design elements all translate surprisingly well to the Lego format. The interior has detailed seats and instruments, and there's even some Chiron luggage that fits under the trunk where there exists a unique serial number. But the really impressive stuff is under the plastic skin. Moving piston engines aren't new to Technic, but it is cool to see that Lego managed to create a tiny version of the W16 engine. You can clearly see each bank of narrow angle V8s and watch all the pistons dance. The engine is even hooked up to a real 8-speed sequential transmission. The transmission can be shifted via paddles in the driver's side footwell. The rear wing moves up and down, too, and is lowered for high-speed mode with a key you build out of Lego pieces. You'll want to make sure you have plenty of space on your table top for the finished product, since it's nearly two feet long. And budget plenty of time for assembling those thousands of pieces. But once you're finished, you'll have your own Bugatti Chiron with many of the same functioning features for so much less money. On that topic, the Chiron kit will cost $349.99, which isn't entirely cheap, but it is coming with a lot of parts and functionality. TODAY’S ZELDABLOGGING, which has ENDGAME SPOILERS (yes i beat it):

all right i got about ~3 hours to get my shield and beat zelda lets fucking do this

the temple of time music is breaking my heart

this is one place where i'm mostly ok with them not using a classic tune for it tbh

like this music has so much grief and tranquility

i used to think the plateau was SO huge and really it's almost miniscule

i know it's a bit of a waste of time but i'm making the final trek on foot, no fast travel, temple of time to the castle

So Many Guardians

i can fight them now but only if theyre in the right place too close or far away and i cant do it

on a side note: yesterday (?) i found a beautiful pink spring i took many pictures of

today i saw that glowing spot on the map and realized i'd never figured out what it was!

dropped a pin bc i was curious, and it's the pink spring

temptation to warp over, check it out, and warp back: astronomical

but i'm on both a mission and a time limit, so it'll have to wait

ok. ok. im Here. its Time. lets go. shield first. that is My Shield, and the stalnox Cannot have it

there's a door i can't figure out how to open :/

ok, all abilities fully charged, 3 fairies, plenty of food. i can do this. i almost killed one by accident once. that is MY SHIELD.

my first shot did a lot of damage! but im wearing the atk+ armor which i can't keep on, it's a glass cannon

man!!!!! im so, so glad

what a good game

honest crit: no, it wasn't PERFECT

i could have stood more classic tunes to punch me in the feels more often and give us more of that old #aesthetic since they changed SO much about everything else - at times it didn't even quite feel like a zelda game, though the reminders that it WAS were always heartbreaking and wonderful

also maybe this was just my playstyle but i feel like there could have been more than just the four dungeons since they were so short...i know the dungeon-y puzzle stuff was spread all around with koroks and shrines, but is One big dungeon too much to ask? even hyrule castle had 1000 ways you could have gotten through

could have stood a little more acknowledgement of who you were and what you were doing as the divine beasts started waking up? like from npcs and shit, not even for Glory or whatever but just because the story felt reeeeeeally spread out, even with the memories scattered everywhere

and again a little bias here but some of the battles once you began getting Up There were a little TOO fake-difficult...i saw white bokoblins in old old places so i know it has to do with You, not your location, and i could have lived w/o it tbh

would have loved some form of new game + or postgame content, but maybe i'm just sad bc i misunderstood a spoiler or w/e it was that happened

things i loved:

the music

the cinematics, holy shit

the voice acting

when they DID use classic tunes it was to INCREDIBLE effect, same with the castle style, the ruins, even the nostalgic armor

obviously the open world gameplay was delightful and addicting, i literally couldn't get enough

the final boss battle wasn't too hard but VERY climactic and wonderful, just difficult Enough - could have maybe been a BIT harder but then i did start with him at half health!!

the dungeons, while there weren't enough of them, were EXTREMELY cool, i felt DWARFED by those beasts, after i saw the first one i never called them jaegers again

actually kind of liked the weapon durability thing bc then i could just pick them up during combat when i was running low and steal them or fight with them, throw them, etc

did not like the BOW durability, all my bows broke VERY quickly, that and running out of arrows always was totally urgh...even with my weapons inventory upgraded i STILL couldn't hold all the cool ones the game threw at me, it needed to be like that for players that favored the bow - more of them that were OP, more arrows, etc

anyway i could go on and on but

i gotta sleep, and

i'm so happy zelda is free

it would have been so cool to have her as a companion in post-game, Somehow

or at least see her reunion with all those who missed her

or see link get his memories back

it ended a bit too soon but it was beautiful and i loved it
