Thinking about 2012!Leo and Rise!Leo, and how if you look at them in the first episodes of their respective season 1 they actually are so much the same character at the base just with different upbringing, but what ends up making them different at the end of their series is actually a result of a thing they have in common:
That is, their tendency to emulate and play a role (which I've loved every post where I've seen people talk about this). Except their different upbringings meant they had very different role models (their tv show of choice and their dads) (especially their dads) and so the archetypes they developed themselves into changed.
2012!Leo was growing into, ehhh, I guess you could call it a Noble Warrior archetype? Whereas rise!Leo was going more, like, Trickster Hero. Which I think means that even if rise!Leo was able to reach the very end of his arc they would have functioned very differently as leaders, but in ways that were still very true to their characters!
(Admittedly everything has to be speculation and extrapolation on where characters were going in Rise, but...)
And I know I'm probably just rehashing ground others have already tread but I can't stop thinking about how that would play out. And also how in a crossover I kinda think even at their best the two Leos would maybe drive each other a bit crazy at first until they understood each other.
Like yes, yeah, 2012!Leo helping the newer/younger iteration work through his issues and insecurities to reach his full potential is GREAT, I always love reading it, but ALSO sometimes I want to see two developed leaders with different specialties (personal battle skills and commanding a flat-out fight vs ...idk how to put this, creative strategies and tactics? pseudo-diplomatic nonsense? ...defeating an enemy vs accomplishing a goal? the difference is this thing I can feel but am having trouble putting into words). I just think it would be interesting to see their different approaches to problem solving bounce off each other, whether they were working together or in a VS. situation.

haha I can't fully process the way that the first half of season three of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 works
It's basically six kids on a farm in the middle of the woods dropped smack into the center of the horror genre, dealing with creepy dark shadows outside the window and mysterious nightmares and actual bigfoot and inoperative flashlights and a creature that picks them off one by one
except 2/3rds of these kids are mutated turtles that know nunjitsu
and also there are aliens
HAHA AND ALSO there's this casual sideplot for at least five episodes about how the most stable member of the team is struggling with handling a serious injury and starts defining himself by his injury to the point where he'd rather sit in one place complaining than take action
But finally there's a point when his friends are stolen by a worm/fish/bird monster and he has to climb a mountain to rescue them, and he starts to sit down and complain but then something threatens his life and he reacts without thinking and suddenly he realizes that he's not as weak as he thought he was
He was letting the injury become much more than it really was, he was letting it get in his head and become his identity, but he can absolutely recover if he changes his mindset
And so he climbs that fricking mountain and starts saying things like "I won't let a little pain stop me" and he starts actually recovering
The pain isn't erased, we see him jump out of a tree in the next episode and show discomfort because he landed on the injured knee, but he gets right back up
and it's sensational
it's incredible
Back to the wacky horror stuff tho, there's literally an episode involving like
a frog rebellion? like this group of mutated frogs who feel oppressed by the humans and try to stage an uprising except the humans they're aiming at are two (2) teenagers who are just minding their business on one (1) battered farmhouse
Napoleon Bonafrog leads this charge

Rise AU idea where the other TMNT shows exist in the Rise universe
Splinter originally heard about TMNT as a teenager, but didn't explore it further. All he knew was that it was about four mutant teenage turtles who were raised by a ninja rat man
Then, years later, he's standing there as a ninja rat man with four baby mutant turtles. Should probably look into those turtle cartoons, huh?
And now everyone is fully aware they are in a ninja turtles iteration, but the only material they have to go off of are the other shows and expect their lives to play by those rules, in one way or another. Except, this is Rise we're talking about, and everyone is constantly getting blindsided
Leo is verbally acknowledged as the leader from the start, but there's a bit of a silent agreement that Raph's leader. No one ever brings it up, but they know.
Pretty early on they start having conversations about if they are really in a TMNT universe, or if this is just a huge coincidence.
Like, the whole Hamato Clan thing can't be a coincidence, right?
But Leo and Raph's personalities don't match up incredibly well, and the age order should be flipped...
Not to mention Splinter's not exactly the no-nonsense, wise sensei from the other tmnt shows.
But this would've been quite the hefty coincidence.... hmmmmmm

had a brain fart while watching the season 2 finale (again)
i was wondering why the turtles (and splinter still) had their humanity while aprils dad didnt and its literally because that the kraang kept trying to perfect mutagen
the closer they were to perfecting the mutagen, the more the mutant loses their humanity and being mindless slaves for the kraang (as mikey has said)
