책읽기 부족함에 대한 꾸지람.

"공무를 보느라 여가가 적기야 하겠지만, 읽고자 한다면 그것은 어렵지 않을것이다. 모래나 자갈로 된 땅이라도 가난한 백성들은 농사지어 먹기위해 갖은 노력을 다 기울이곤 하��데, 하물며 좋은 밭임에랴 말해 무엇하겠는가. 헌데 밭가는 것보다 한결 수월한 책읽기를 멀리하고 일없이 한가로이 노는 그대들을 보면 애석한 마음을 가눌길이 없다. 그대들은 젊고 재주도 그리 둔하지 않으니 조금만 노력을 기울이면 무슨일일든 하지 못하겠는가? 너희들이 배우지 않는 것은 농사꾼이 좋은 밭을 버려두는 것과 다를바없다. 좋은 밭을 버려두고 있으면서 염치없이 수확되길 바라는가?"

정조의 언행을 기록한 '일득록'에 나��있는 독서에 대한 정조의 말이다 자신의 눈으로 미처 살피지 못한 것을 신하들의 눈으로 살펴서 반성하려 했다는 정조이지만, 그들의 독서의 부족함을 꾸짖고 타이르는 것을 보니 큰 어른이라는 생각이 든다.

겨울, 뜨개질하기 좋은 계절 겨울겨울겨울 뜨개질하느라 책 읽을 시간이 부족해서 늘 아쉽고 반성도 하는둥 마는둥이지만 그래도 마음먹고 열심히 읽어야겠다 가치가 있는 일은 뭐든 품이 드는 법이니까.
