gonna repaint the small room as I convert it to a nursery. here are some options I’m considering:
lord of the rings theme lol. I already have those gorgeous LOTR travel posters but I’ll repaint the walls in a prettier dark green (the current one has too much yellow/brown in it for my taste). can’t really think of other ways to make it themed but maybe it could be loosely shire/nature themed in some way hm
night sky theme… some kind of rich velvety dark blue paint on the walls and ceiling, then I could get liz to hand-paint constellations on the walls. moon and stars stuff too, like a lamp with star cutouts or one of those lovely 3D printed moon lamps. think a sort of lovely dark womblike feeling similar to the very very dark teal downstairs bathroom. I don’t really want to go full outer space theme (not that into rocket ships
ocean/whales/sea creatures theme (probably dark blue walls too… for some reason I’m feeling drawn to that color, I think because I love the intensely dark saturated jewel-box feel of the downstairs half bath so much)
I was originally thinking safari or jungle animal-themed with the green walls (giraffes, elephants, etc) but I’m not as crazy about the idea anymore

The children have, at their crafty mother's instigation, repainted their three-storey dolls' house chalk white and redecorated it for their dragons. (They love iridescent 3D-printed dragons like these - there's a chap who sometimes sells them from a stall at our local Saturday morning market, but not always, so it's like the magic shop in a fantasy story that's not there when you try to go back.)
On the top floor Linus has his green dragons, Jade and Aqua, surrounded by (artificial) greenery, a vine of white flowers, a "pool" of green glass marbles and little blinking pastel fairy lights. Jade's head peeps out from under the trailing foliage of a plant and it all looks lush and lovely and a bit like an upmarket day spa. There is a frog and a turtle, too.
The next floor is Hannah's and she has more of a classic dragon's lair aesthetic with a cave-like floor (rumpled brown scarf) scattered with pebbles and golden (brass) treasure, and her (blue) ice and (orange-red) fire dragons sitting on treasure chests. It looks sumptuous.
The next floor is Barbara's and it is empty except for a small Duplo structure in the middle topped by a bathtub with her rainbow dragon in it, a jet of plastic flame, a Duplo cat, and then there's a flashing disco lamp and a strand of blinking rainbow fairy lights. She is very pleased with it. She says it's "romantic."
The basement has sunflowers, trolls and Artemis from Sailor Moon in it.

Moon Lamp
A few years ago my brother got my Mom a moon lamp.
You know the one: 3D printed and popular on IG and Etsy. It got put on a bookshelf in the living room and forgotten about, along with other fun novelties, as they often do. We were emailing about things to spruce up Mom's room, since she doesn't ever leave it now.
She can't walk. She's completely bedridden and dependent on us to take care of her. She used to watch Hallmark movies all day long, now she only turns the TV on for baseball games.
"Mom, don't you want to watch TV?"
She just smiles at me. "No, I just want to rest."
She doesn't talk about the cancer, or about whatever time she may have left. She smiles and jokes with us and naps a lot. She keeps thanking me for all I'm doing to take care of her. The hospice nurses all remark on how positive and cheerful she is.
My mom has an uncanny ability to accept what is but not dwell on it. She doesn't rush, she doesn't brood, she doesn't fight. She says she wants to enjoy whatever time she has left. For her that means cutting her meds back to pain management only, eating what she wants, when she wants, or not at all, and watching the sun set over her backyard from the hospital bed in her room. She loves when it gets dark enough for the solar lights on the new palm trees to come on.
Someday I'll write about how I feel about all of this, but not today. Today I'm writing about my mom and how she's facing the end of her life with a grace I could only ever hope to achieve.
