Y/N sat on a baja blanket, staring out into the ocean, wondering if he would come. Sam confirmed he was able to sneak Bucky the mixtape, but Y/N wasn’t sure that he had decoded her message. On the tracklist, she underlined different letters and numbers that read “Sat 2PM 7th St Beach.” It was subtle, which was her style, but she wasn’t even sure he would figure it out. Hell, he might not even have noticed the pattern. In her mind, it was almost like a test. If he didn’t decode the message, then things weren’t meant to be.
She eyed the book sitting in her lap, willing herself to at least try to read to distract her mind. But everytime she finished a page, she checked her watch to see what time it was. It was now 1:56 and the weight residing in her stomach grew heavier. Who was she kidding, he wasn’t going to show up. This whole thing was stupid and she was kicking herself for ever thinking it was a good idea. She hated this feeling. This was why she pushed people away. Being vulnerable was the easiest way to get hurt.
And now a tear was falling down her cheek. She was so in her head about things that she was crying. She quickly wiped the single tear off her cheek and laid back on the blanket, placing the open book over her face. She had to get her shit together. She would not be the girl crying over a guy. Y/N took in a deep inhale and breathed out of her mouth, calming her nervous system. The oxygen was all she needed to clear her head. Her decision was made.
She stood in the sand and tossed her book in her bag. She folded up her blanket and collected her sandals, trudging through the sand to the boardwalk.
“Don’t tell me you’re leaving already. I’m only a few minutes late, and for good reason.” Bucky stood in front of her, in his signature leather jacket, with two cups of coffee in his hands.
“What are you doing here,” she stated more than asked, adding a few more bricks to the wall that was guarding her heart.
“I got your message,” he smiled. He walked closer towards her and handed her a cup of coffee. “Figured we had some catching up to do,” he added.
She stood there, still processing this. He came. He figured out the message and he showed up. He passed the test. She hadn’t really thought through what would actually happen if he came. And now here he was, standing in front of her.
Before she could respond, Bucky stepped closer, taking the blanket out of her hands and splaying it out over the sand.
“Come on,” he urged her. She didn’t object, sitting down next to him as they looked out onto the ocean.
“I’ve never heard you this quiet before. You usually have a biting remark queued up as soon as you see me.”
“I do not,” she argued.
“See, that’s better already,” he joked, giving her shoulder a light nudge.
“I didn’t think you would come,” she admitted.
“You didn’t think I would come or you didn’t think I would decode your message?”
“The latter is probably a bit more accurate,” she said sheepishly.
“I know it may seem like I’m just a pretty face, but I’ve been known to have clever thoughts every so often.”
His attempts at getting her to loosen up were moderately successful, but she still wasn’t willing to open up just yet. Luckily, Bucky had planned for this. He knew this conversation would take some work.
“Are you happy to see me here?” he asked.
She let out a sigh, “I am. I hate to admit this, but I missed you these past few weeks.”
Bucky placed a hand over his heart, “You missed me?”
She hit his bicep with the back of her hand, “Don’t make me say it again.”
“I missed you too. And all I wanted was to talk to you and explain things. So thank you for giving me the opportunity to do that.”
She merely nodded, encouraging him to continue.
“So let me start by admitting that I am a complete idiot and I probably don’t even deserve a second chance, but I appreciate you giving me a chance to redeem myself.”
“Good start,” she commented.
“I agreed to the dare just to get Zemo to shut up. And I think the only reason I really went for it is because you intrigued me. I always found you attractive but I never pursued you because…well honestly you don’t come across as very friendly.”
Y/N chuckled and he continued.
“And then when I first talked to you, it was like I had this need for you to like me. I wanted to figure out what made you tick, and the more time I spent with you, the more I liked you. I need you to know that everything I said was true and that the person you spent all that time with was the real me. The dare just gave me a reason to talk to you. These past few weeks I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you. I haven’t been eating, I’ve barely slept, knowing that I hurt you has been killing me. I can promise you, I will never hurt you again. I think I might be in love with you, and this is the first time I’ve ever felt this way so I’m still figuring it all out, but I will do anything to win you back. I’ll bring you breakfast every morning, I will carry all your books and walk you to class every day, I will give you my car. Whatever you need, I’ll do it. Just please, give me another chance.”
She was quiet for a second, processing his words.
“Could you, like, say something?” he asked nervously, struggling to read her expression.
“I’m thinking,” she responded. “Did you rehearse that?”
He was confused by her question, but answered anyway. “I mean I had points I wanted to hit on. I think I may have strayed a little bit towards the middle but I think I ended strong.”
She gave him a small smile, “Do you really mean it all or are you just telling me what I want to hear?”
He took her hand, “Y/N, I’m not here to bullshit you. I mean every single word. You are the world to me.”
“You used the l-word,” she commented. Bucky found it cute that she couldn’t say love.
“Yeah I wasn’t planning on saying that, but it’s true. I do love you.” He ran his thumb up and down the back of her hand. She was quiet again, thinking through her response. She never took this long to respond, usually she went with whatever popped into her head. Bucky took her hand and placed it to his chest. “Do you feel that? How fast my heart is beating? It gets like that every time I’m around you. And my stomach always feels like there’s a million butterflies fluttering around in there. You do that to me.”
“I love you too.” It fell off her lips so easily, Bucky thought he must have misheard.
“You do?” he asked in disbelief. She bit her bottom lip and shyly nodded her head, trying to hide the smile on her lips. He lost control. He lunged at her, essentially tackling her down onto the blanket as he squeezed her into a tight hug. When he pulled away ever so slightly, his face hovered above hers.
“Are you gonna let me kiss you?” he asked. She simply nodded and his lips were on hers, making up for their lost time. It almost scared her, how easily she fell back into the kiss. Her hand found his jaw as she held him close, not wanting him to leave her vicinity. This was the moment she’d been waiting for and it didn’t disappoint. The spark was there, the longing was there, the love was there. And in that moment she knew that she never wanted to be without him.
They kissed and cuddled for a while and then they sat there together and watched the sunset. Y/N leaned back into Bucky’s arms as he kept her warm from the crisp autumn air. They talked about nothing and everything, trying to catch up on the weeks they had missed. And in that moment she knew she would never grow tired of this. He had somehow managed to thaw her frozen exterior and taught her that love was worth the risk of pain.
As it started to get darker, they packed up their spot on the beach and headed back to the boardwalk. She knew she wasn’t leaving his side tonight. She’d spent too much time away from him and she wasn’t ready to separate just yet.
“Keys please,” she said, holding out her hand.
“Oh are you driving?” he asked skeptically.
“Well yeah, it is my car now,” she replied easily.
Bucky leaned his head back, “Of course, how could I forget.” He placed the keys in her open hand, before wrapping his strong arm over her shoulder and pulling her in close to kiss her temple.

Postcards from Ukraine to members of Congress – a suggestion 💡 🇺🇦 🇺🇸 📮
It's clear that House Speaker Mike Johnson is acting on orders from Donald Trump to prevent a Senate bill which includes aid to Ukraine from getting a vote in the House of Representatives. Johnson is a craven careerist who would sell his mother into slavery to please Trump.
The Senate bill ("Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act") could still be taken up – and would almost certainly pass – if just a handful of Republicans from moderate districts decided to support a parliamentary procedure called a "discharge petition" in order to bypass Speaker Johnson.
There are 17 Republicans in the House of Representatives in 2022 who won in congressional districts where Joe Biden had beaten Donald Trump in 2020. These Republicans from moderate districts would be a good grouping to entreat to support the discharge petition. A number of them have already expressed support for Ukraine in the past. It's a matter of getting them to put conscience ahead of their fear of Trump.
Below is a list of addresses of the district offices of those 17 Republican Representatives. If you are in Ukraine, buy a postcard and clearly write a short message which tells how you love freedom and how Putin's illegal war has affected you. It can be in English or Ukrainian. Use a Ukrainian stamp for postage and mail it as soon as possible.
Individuals need pick just 1 of the 17. But schools, businesses, clubs, and military units with at least 17 people can arrange to send one to each of the listed Representatives.
Be polite but urgent. Perhaps remind them that Ronald Reagan understood the dangers of Russian imperialism.

FAQ
Why physical mail instead of email or phone calls? There's an enormous chance that your email would end up in a spam folder. Also, the Congressional email system tends to prioritize email originating from the districts of each individual House member. Phone calls from outside the US are likely to be filtered out. Unlike email or phone calls, a physical piece of mail has a real world presence. The recipient has to do something with it. You can't simply press DELETE to get rid of it.
Why postcards and not letters? For security reasons. It takes less time and effort to inspect a postcard than a letter or parcel. Your mail will arrive sooner.
Why use postage stamps instead of a postage meter? You want the recipient to know that you are REALLY from Ukraine. Using official Ukrainian stamps is a simple way to do that. When people see Україна or Ukraina on the stamp then they will know it originated in Free Ukraine. FYI: the letter Ї does not exist in Russian, recipients should look for this on the stamp. Also, your stamp automatically turns the postcard into a collector's item. It is more likely to be saved and to serve as a continuing reminder of your urgent request.
Why send the postcards to district offices instead of offices in Washington? Postcards from Ukraine will get more attention locally by local staff; if a sizable number arrive, it might even get mentioned in local media. In Washington, people tend to be more blasé about such things.
What is the proper form of address for House members? Rep. or Representative before the surname – no distinction based on gender.
FOR REFERENCE: Here are electoral stats for the districts. The column marked R margin indicates the size of each Representative's winning margin in 2022. Rep. Duarte, for example, beat his Democratic opponent by a very narrow 0.4%

THROWBACK THURSDAY: SNAKESTONES
St. Hilda's Spell
Once upon a time in 7th century England, the Saxon abbess, St. Hilda, was charged with founding a new abbey in Whitby Yorkshire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, upon her arrival she discovered the place was infested with snakes!
Tumblr media
The evil serpents had to be removed before she could have a holy building built. So, she cast a spell that turned them to stone and then she tossed them off the cliffs.
Tumblr media
These snakestones were found all over the beaches of Yorkshire, coiled tightly and missing their heads. Folks would collect them and add heads to them to sell in street markets.
Tumblr media
We now call these snakestones Hildoceras in honor of St. Hilda. Nice case of mistaken identity, huh?

Butchy's Basic Info
Tumblr media
Name: Biagio Antonio Bandoni
Now, I must say, it was only hard for me to pick one 60s - Michael Parks 80s - Tom Cruise (Top Gun) 90s - Barry Watson (7th Heaven) now - Cody Christian (All-American)
Nicknames: Butchy, Butch (close friends only), Babs (Lela’s first nickname for him when they were little that sort of stuck through the years), and Forty (his football number in high school that some of the locals call him)
Age: 21
Date of Birth: April 18
Zodiac: Aries
Birthstone: Diamond
Nationality: Italian-American
Sexuality: Straight
Birthplace: Their old family home in Tampa, Florida
Current Residence: Three Palms Point, St. Pete Beach, Florida
Occupation: Mechanic
Talents/Skills: He’s played piano since he was little, he’s great at keeping plants alive (unlike his sister), he can write pretty good poems and short stories if he has the chance to sit and focus, and he can fix almost anything if he puts his mind to it - not just cars and bikes.
Birth order: Oldest of two
Siblings: Lelanna “Lela” Charlotte
Parents: Enzo Ferruccio Bandoni and Stella Valentina Bianchi
Signature:
Tumblr media
Height: 6’2”
Race: White
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Dark brown, almost black
Glasses or contact lenses: Just reading glasses and, though he can read without them, if he goes too long without them, he gets migraines.
Distinguishing features: Multiple injuries from a motorcycle accident, most scars remaining in the area around his shoulder, upper back, and ribcage. Also, he has two tattoos - Mick’s initials under his wedding ring to match the one she has of his initials, and a small moth on his ribcage (a representation of transformation, change, hope, and new beginnings).
Mannerisms: Constantly spinning his wedding ring, running his hands through his hair, and humming while he works on things
Health: He’s in pretty good health, but he gets pain in his back and shoulder when it rains, something he says makes him feel a lot older than he is.
Hobbies: Writing, playing football, drag racing on the weekends with friends (much to Mick’s chagrin), making incredible grilled cheese sandwiches, and playing piano on his days off
Greatest flaw (in their opinion): How stuck in his ways he can be. Butchy likes things the way they are. He’s used to doing things a certain way and he doesn’t like when things go off of their typical course. Butchy likes routine and normality - the usual ebb and flow of life - but when something or someone interrupts the flow of his life, he sometimes struggles to find a way to allow them in. You’d see this a lot when new people are introduced to his life who aren’t directly related to the people he cares about. While he was great at accepting Royce and Bentley into his life, allowing Carrie into the picture was a years-long struggle. Sometimes, he has a harder time letting new things happen, but he’s learning how to handle that at his own pace with the help of those around him.
Best quality (in their opinion): Selflessness. As the designated dad friend of the group, he’s forever putting other’s needs before his own - sometimes to his own detriment - but he’s proud of the fact that everyone sort of turns to him when they need something. They know he’s there for them no matter what and he loves it when someone comes to him, looking for help or even just someone to talk to. Regardless of whether or not he had plans already, he would set nearly anything aside for a friend or family member. His friends constantly come to him when they need help and he can’t help but smile and agree as he feels needed for something. When the kids come up asking him for help with friendship issues or drama problems or, heck, even dating issues, he feels like a proud dad/uncle. It makes him feel complete, in a way, that the people he loves would come to him for help.
Biggest fear: Being unable to protect those he cares about. He first realized this when he and Lela were younger and he found out she was being picked on. Being older and stuck in the next school up from her, he was unable to rush to her aid whenever she needed him, and it hurt. By the time Miles came into the picture, he was taller, stronger, and able to help, but he wasn’t there when Miles got jumped - another tally on the list of people he couldn’t protect. When Mick came around, he originally pushed back the idea of being with her to save himself from letting down someone else. However, that didn’t last long and he’s done everything in his power to keep her safe. When he sees the kids running around town on their bikes, causing their typical mayhem, he wants to join them to make sure nothing happens, but forces himself to stand back with the knowledge that he’ll be there when they fall. He hates the thought of being unable to protect the people he cares about, but he’s working on being able to understand that he can’t surround the whole world in bubble wrap just to make sure nobody gets hurt.
Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
Favorite ice cream: Banana cream pie
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite number: 40, for his football number, and 320, for the date he and Mick got married on - March 20th, the first day of spring.
Favorite songs: You Rang My Bell by Jamey Foxton, Somebody To Love by Queen, and I Was Made for Lovin’ You by KISS
A place they want to visit: Monte Carlo, Monaco

Day 266: Saturday September 23, 2023 - "Petco Park Party"
Crashed an overnight into San Diego tonight, William's 7th. And after we all got a much needed rest and reset at the hotel, we set out together for a fun night out in the city. One of the reasons Audrie picked this trip up was because the Cardinals happened to be in town for a late season meaningless series with the Padres. Though the Cards are hardly worth a free flight this year ( 68-87 as of tonights win in extras), we were excited to go revisit the first baseball park Audrie and I visited together almost a decade ago and take William to his 7th MLB park.
It was a firsty for me, seeing the Cardinals in their road throwback Victory Blues that they wear on Saturday nights, and while we took in the early innings from the center field (beach/sandbox), I cheered for them obnoxiously. We moved up to our seats behind home plate where I made friends with the surrounding Friar fans as I sipped the local beers and led the local cheers, and was happy when the bottom of the 9th came and went and we were still playing baseball in the cool ocean air of San Diego. William got baseball cards from the ushers, got a hot dog from his mama, and enjoyed seeing the red team in blue win the game - several breaks for mama milk definitely helped as the night got late.
And the Overnight Crash First Game is what kept us solidly in our perfect seats with a straight view of the outfield where after the game, there'd be fireworks; William's first firework show. And these were great fireworks, a really awesome show. William sat in awe pretending each flash was a rocket ship over the baseball game. Given that he remember the Dodgers game from July earlier this week by the fact that we went with Chad and got a bobble guy - -he'll definitely remember Petco Park, his 7th MLB stadium for that awesome fireworks show.
Every time I come to San Diego, I love it more. I love this stadium, and the people here. This is a great baseball city. Ive been to them all - this one is special. I hope that the get some success soon! So much talent here, and fun atmosphere, and great beer. As we walked around lost on the streets of San Diego, looking for the rental car, hopelessly - I told William, he had permission to grow up a Padres fan. We could make a habit of coming here - as we finally found the car i joked "obviously we need to work on getting to know this city better."
Updated Overnight List / Firsty Game:
1 Milwaukee, WI -> First Brewers Game (May 27, 2023) 2 St Louis, MO -> First Visit to the Arch (May 28, 2023) 3 Long Beach, CA -> First Time Riding A Boat (July 3, 2023) 4 Honolulu, HI -> First Time Flying with Grandma/Papa; First time Swimming in Pacific Ocean (August 5, 2023) 5 Honolulu, HI -> First Hawaiian Shaved Ice (August 8, 2023) 6 San Francisco, CA -> First time flying on Mama’s Plane (she was A), September 2, 2023 7 San Diego, CA -> First time flying no diaper (and no accident), first Fire Works Show after Padres game, September 23, 2023
Song: Hans Williams - Willows

Description: During the early years of the Vietnam War, a small group of American soldiers carried the fight to the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army, often under difficult circumstances. Their sacrifices generally went unrecognized and unappreciated by a mostly indifferent nation. But a massive influx of American troops would soon alter the entire nature and perception of the war. THE FROST WEEDS graphically describes the horror, the heroism and even the humor of the Vietnam experience while offering a far different perspective of the war than that epitomized by the larger conflict that followed. It is an astonishing account of a small U.S. military advisory team struggling to deal with a ruthless enemy and an often exasperating ally.
Review: This was an excellent book by an excellent author. He was able to craft a good narrative and understood pacing and flow which is rare for many of these books. The tales he told of the early years of the vietnam war, the 64/65 period, of what it was like at Ta Bat, A Shau, and Khe Sanh, his explorations of Hue, and the battle of Nam Dong were well done and gave you a really good sense of who was there, what happened, and what the experience was like being an Advisor radioman attached to an ARVN unit.

Tuesday 7th March 2023
Our apartment could hardly be described as roughing it. The Motels can only be regarded as adequate in most cases and we only used them in the Outback when no Airbnb solution was available. This place is total luxury with the covered area containing the BBQ (with sink), bar style seating, sofas, Netflix and hot tub allow the perceived outdoor Aussie lifestyle become an absolute reality and is extremely desirable. Martine is most pleased because she once more has a cafetiere. I think I want to live here. Thing is, if you go past our superbly appointed apartment around a corner of the outside space, there is what one might describe as a well appointed shed. Perhaps that was where we were supposed to be? The first thing on the agenda was to go down to the station to check arrangements for the train journey on Thursday on the tilt train to Brisbane. We popped into the station at about 5 o'clock yesterday and it was completely deserted and locked apart from a couple of girls who appeared to be living in the waiting room. Well at least the bedrolls were laid out. Perhaps they were Matilda's?
After so much travelling we thought a quiet day was required and the best place to find a quiet day is on a deserted beach. We asked our host, Deborah, where we would find such a place. Well she said you don't need to be in woop woop! Yes they do actually say this! Aussie for middle of nowhere! Anyway on her advice we pointed the Nissan towards Yeppoon. Well that is after we had another go at the station. The staff were all there this morning and we made arrangements to dump our cases there tomorrow evening. I think the itinerant girls had moved out of the waiting room. Yeppoon was 35 mins drive away but we were soon to be getting our first glimpse of the Pacific again after what seems ages. We were heading for Cooee Bay, Wreck Point Lookout, and Lammermoor Beach. James Cook had called here in 1770, but it was in 1802 that the famous Navigator and Cartographer Matthew Flinders arrived as part of his renowned circumnavigation of Australia mapping the country for the first time. Some of his maps are still in use today apparently. Aussies love Flinders and his cat Trim. There are monuments, roads, stations, statues to his and Trim's memory all over. He returned to England and soon after died aged 40 in 1814. Big hero, gone. Not only that but he was buried in St James cemetery near to Euston station but even in 1852 the exact location was lost. Some people were convinced he was buried under platform 4. However when clearing the old cemetery for HS2, they found him! He was one of 40,000 graves cleared. I heard he is likely to be reburied with his father in Lincoln. Wreck Point recognised the loss of the good ship Salina in 1848. She was due into Sydney in July 1847 but she failed to arrive. Instead she washed up at Wreck Point 15 months later with no explanation. Well life is full of mysteries. We had no hope of solving this so we moved on to Lammermoor Beach for the quiet time. And quiet it was too. We had the beach to ourselves. We discovered approaching the beach there was a local outlaw, the Tilapia fish. Report all cases, it is an offence to have one dead or alive! Well we tried to be helpful; looked everywhere for it but couldn't find him. Luncheon came and went, the sun baked down in a cloudless sky moving what little shade there was but still 33 degrees. The beach started to fill as the kids came out of school so we moved on to Emu Park. Now we could do with seeing a few more Emus but it turns out Emu Park is a small township with no Emus apart from an artist's depiction of some but with fantastic views of the Keppel Islands nonetheless. Disappointed, but a couple of Magnums did the trick and we repaired to Woolworths and Liquorland for some beers and other items for another BBQ.

7-AD – Withdrawal Behind the 82-A/B Lines December 1944
Tumblr media
Document Source: (AAR) After Action Report (December 1944), Headquarters 7th Armored Division, December 1, 1944, – December 31, 1944, St-Vith & Vicinity, Belgium, Col John L. Ryan Jr, GSC, Chief of Staff
Tumblr media
FOREWORD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 7th Armored Division was activated on March 1, 1942, reorganized on September 20, 1943, and sent to the United Kingdom in June 1944. The division landed in Omaha Beach and Utah Beach, on August 13/14, 1944, and was assigned to the US 3-A. The 7-AD drove through Nogent-le-Rotrou in an attack on Chartres which fell on August 18. From Chartres, the Division advanced to liberate Dreux, then Melun where the division crossed the Seine River on August 24. The 7-AD then pushed on to bypass Reims, liberated Château-Thierry and Verdun, August 31, halted briefly for refueling until September 6, when it drove toward the Moselle River and made a crossing near Dornot. This crossing had to be withdrawn in the face of the heavy fortifications around Metz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 7-AD then made attempts to cross again the Moselle River northwest of Metz but the deep river valley was not suitable terrain for an armored attack. Elements of the division assisted the 5th Infantry Division in expanding a bridgehead east of Arnaville, south of Metz, and on September 15, the main part of the division crossed the Moselle. The 7-AD was repulsed in its attacks across the Seille River at and near Sillegny, part of an attack in conjunction with the 5-ID that was also repulsed further north. On September 25, the 7-AD was transferred to the US 9-A and began the march

to the Netherlands where they were needed to protect the right (east) flank of the corridor opened by Operation Market Garden. They were to operate in southeastern Holland so that British and Canadian forces and the US 104th Infantry Division could clear the Germans from the Scheldt Estuary in the southwest Netherlands and open the shipping lanes to the critical port of Antwerp, to allow Allied ships to bring supplies from Britain.
Tumblr media
In September 1944, the 7-AD launched an attack from the north on the town of Overloon, against significant German defenses. The attacks progressed slowly and finally settled into a series of counter-attacks reminiscent of World War I trench warfare. On October 8, the 7-AD was relieved from the attack on Overloon by the British 11-AD and moved south of Overloon to the Deurne – Weert area. Here they were attached to the British 2-A and ordered to make demonstration attacks to the east, in order to divert enemy forces from the Overloon and Venlo areas, where British troops pressed the attack. This plan succeeded, and the British were finally able to liberate Overloon. On October 27, the main part of the 7-AD was in essentially defensive positions along the line Nederweert (and south) – Meijel – Liesel, with the demonstration force still in the attack across the Deurne Canal to the east. The Germans launched a two-division offensive centered on Meijel, catching the thinly stretched US 87-CRS (Cavalry Recon Squadron) by surprise. However, the response by the 7-AD and by the British VIII Corps to which the division was attached, stopped the German attack on the third day and from October 31 to November 8, gradually drove the enemy out of the terrain that they had taken. During this operation, at midnight on the night of October 31 – November 1, Gen Robert D. Hasbrouck replaced Gen Lindsay Silvester as Commanding General of the division. On November 8, the 7-AD was again transferred back to the US 9-A and moved south to rest areas in the eastern vicinity of Maastricht. Following an inflow of many replacements, they began extensive training and reorganization, since so many original men had been lost in France and Holland that a significant part of the division was now men who had never trained together. At the end of November, the division straddled the Dutch-German Border with one combat command in Germany (in the area of Ubach–Palenberg, north of Aachen) and two in the Netherlands. Elements of the division were attached to the US 84th Infantry Division for operations in early December in the area of Linnich, Germany, on the banks of the Roer River.

DECEMBER 1, 1944 On December 1, the division order of battle was as follows: CCA – 48th Armored Infantry Battalion – Able Co, 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion – Dog Co, 87th Cavalry Recon Squadron Mecz CCB – 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion – 31st Tank Battalion – Baker Co, 33rd Armored Infantry Battalion – Baker Co, 87th Cavalry Recon Squadron Mecz – Dog Co, 203rd AAA Battalion – Charlie Co, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – 1st Plat, Baker Co, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – 1st Plat, Recon, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion CCR – 38th Armored Infantry Battalion – Baker Co, 40th Tank Battalion – Charlie Co, 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion – Ordnance Detachment – Medical Detachment Division Troops – 203rd AAA Battalion (-) – 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion (-) – 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion (-) – 87th Cavalry Recon Squadron Mecz Division Trains – 129th Ordnance Maintenance Company (-) – 77th Armored Medical Battalion (-) – 446th Quartermaster Truck Company (-) – 3967th Quartermaster Troop Transport Company (-) – Baker Co, 203rd AAA Battalion Division Artillery was under XIII Corps control and consisted of: – 434th Armored Field Artillery Battalion – 440th Armored Field Artillery Battalion – 489th Armored Field Artillery Battalion – Able Co and Charlie Co, 203rd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion Attached to the division were the: – 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – 203rd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion – 446th Quartermaster Trucking Company – 3967th Quartermaster Troop Transport Company Detached from the division were the: – 17th Tank Battalion (attached to the 102-ID) – 40th Tank Battalion (-) Baker & Dog Cos (attached to the 84-ID)

(CCR/7-AD), commanded by Col John L. Ryan Jr, was in the vicinity of Ubach, Germany, on December 1, 1944. The only divisional unit in action under division command was Baker Co 40th Tank Battalion which was supporting the 84th Infantry Division's operations in the vicinity

of Lindern. Able Co 40-TB was holding Lindern with elements of the 84-ID. Baker Co 40-TB was sent in to reinforce it. Due to enemy artillery concentrations on the supply route, supplies were brought to the two companies by means of the Blue Ball Express, an innovation using the light tanks of Dog Co 40-TB to bring up trailer loads of rations and ammunition under the cover of darkness.

(CCB/7-AD) under the command of Col Bruce C. Clarke, was alerted to move east of the Wurm River, Germany, to assemble at Gereonsweiller. The mission was to attack southeast from Lindern and to seize Linnich by passing through the 84-ID and 102-ID. The 814-TDB was to support the attack. However, due to the progress of the infantry divisions, it was not necessary

to commit CCB. (CCA/7-AD) under Col Dwight A. Rosenbaum, located in the vicinity of Heerlen, Holland, was undergoing a training and maintenance program pending operations to the east.

DECEMBER 2, 1944
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Division Tactical Headquarters was established at Rimburg, Holland. CCB 7-AD moved east of the Wurm River. This placed two combat commands east of that river, prepared for immediate operations to the east, northeast, or north. At 0115, the elements of the 40-TB which had been attached to the US 84-ID were relieved from such attachment. Baker 40-TB was then attached to the US 84-ID. While prepared to repel any enemy counter-attacks, the division units continued with training and maintenance programs.

DECEMBER 3, 1944
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At 1200, the 17-TB was relieved from attachment to the US 102-ID and returned to CCR 7-AD control. Proposed operations to the east were dependent upon the destruction of the enemy-held Roer River Dams, south of Düren. The enemy was capable of countering an Allied offensive in this area by flooding the Roer River Valley. This would result in either destruction of the troops in the flooded region or the cutting off of our supply lines. To eliminate this threat, Allied air forces made

several attempts to destroy the dam by bombing. The first attempt was made on December 3. While training and maintenance continued for the division as a whole, various divisional units were in action while under attachment to other commands. Baker Co 40-TB was attached to the US 84-ID from December 2, 1944, at 2230 to December 6, 1944, at 1600. Charlie Co 38-AIB
Tumblr media
was also under attachment to the US 84-ID from December 3, 1944, at 2100 to December 6, 1944, at 1800. The 48-AIB was attached to the US 102-ID from December 5, 1944, at 1400 to December 9, 1944, at 2400 and the 17-TB was attached to the US 84-ID from December 9, 1944, at 1400 until December 16, 1944, at 2000.
Tumblr media
During the period, detailed plans were made for seizing the town of Brachelen. The town was defended by the German 694.Infantry-Regiment, the 695.Infantry-Regiment and the 696.Infantry-Regiment from the 340.Infantry-Division. The attack was dependent upon the destruction of the Roer River Dams which would isolate the town. When one of the dams was broken it would take from 4 to 5 1/2 hours for the crest of the flood to reach Brachelen, and as the dam could not be bombed before 1000, the attack was to be launched the day after the destruction of the dam. CCB 7-AD was assigned the job of taking Brachelen. The plan of attack was outlined in Operations Instructions on December 11, at 0900, known as plan Dagger. CCA 7-AD was to move east of the Wurm River after CCB’s attack. Both combat commands were constituted as follows: CCA – 40th Tank Battalion – 48th Armored Infantry Battalion – Able Co, 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion – Dog Co, 87th Cavalry Rcn Squadron (Mecz) – Able Co, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – 1st Co, Recon, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – Detachment, 77th Armored Medical Battalion CCB – 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion – 31st Tank Battalion – 38th Armored Infantry Battalion – Baker Co, 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion – Baker Co, 87th Cavalry Recon Squadron (Mecz) – Charlie Co, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – 1st Plat, Baker Co, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – Detachment, 129th Ordnance Battalion – Dog Co, 203rd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion – Detachment, 77th Armored Medical Battalion CCR – 1 Squadron Recon, 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion – Charlie Co, 33rd Armored Engineer Battalion
Tumblr media
DECEMBER 10 Today, Col Bruce C. Clarke, Commanding CCB 7-AD, was promoted to brigadier general. At 1000, CCB 7-AD was placed in the Corps reserve. DECEMBER 11 At 1500, CCB was released from the Corps Reserve and replaced by CCA 7-AD. DECEMBER 13 Division Main Headquarters moved from Robroek to Heerlen, Holland, while the rest of the division continued training and maintenance, pending the destruction of the Roer River dam and the beginning of the operations Dagger. While there isn't a specific cure for measles, getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent it. Vaccines help your body build defenses against the virus. Staying informed about vaccinations and taking preventive measures are key to keeping yourself and others safe from contagious diseases like measles.
