Solo Trip to the Beach - Linda Spreeman

Traveling solo to the Beach is certainly a lot less intimidating than solo travel on a Cruise. Truth be told I have been traveling to the "shore" since I was able to drive and obtaining my own car.

My grandparents retired to the shore so I had a place to go in my teens and twenties. Many wonderful memories solo and with my friends as a teenager at my grandmother's house (sadly my PopPop passed away at 68 when I was only 15).

I was able to make my own fun either by myself or with friends. The shore, specifically the 45th Street beach was my Happy Place. As a new mother, in my twenties, I shared that love as a family and my newborn baby girl.

Fast forward through divorce, remarriage, divorce, being solo for over 20 years and I still find myself eternally drawn to my Happy Place on the beach in Ocean City, NJ.

Cherished memories are always made and those have been enhanced by those made with my daughters, and also my granddaughters.

Recently I took a trip again - life comes full circle - and stayed in my favorite hotel on the boardwalk/beach. My grandparents house has long been gone - sold in the mid 80s - torn down and rebuilt on their oversized lot to a giant quad.

From my solo years at age 49 to my present age 69, many things have changed. I see the Shore - my Happy Place - through a different lens. What persists is that the Happy Place will always provide solace for my heart, rejuvenation for my soul and a deep new perspective for my mind.
