FAQ

What is the gift exchange?

The 911 gift exchange is an online exchange of content between creators. You might also know the concept as “Secret Santa” for Christmas, though this gift exchange is not affiliated with any specific holiday. By filling out the form, you will be assigned someone to create a gift for. You will be given a list of the content they are looking to receive, as well as any special instructions. In addition to making a gift for someone else, you also have your own gift someone else is making for you to look forward to!

Who can participate?

Anyone! Creators of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

What kind of content counts as a gift?

Fanfiction, fan art, gif sets, edits, icons, headers, lockscreens; honestly, anything that you create and share on a normal day on your Tumblr account would most likely work for this! If you aren’t sure about anything, do not hesitate to send us a message.

Do I have to be “in the fandom” to participate?

If your blog isn’t dedicated to 911/911 Lone Star that’s totally fine! Multi-fandom blogs are encouraged to participate. Even if you don’t normally post about the show(s), as long as you are okay with making content about them, you are welcome to join!

Do I have to have a tumblr account to participate?

Yes. We ask that all content be exchanged through Tumblr, therefore you must have a blog to participate.

Does the content I make have to include 911 or 911 Lone Star?

Yes. This gift exchange is specifically for fans of 911 and 911 Lone Star, so the content that is exchanged must involve characters, pairings, and/or themes from the show(s).

When is the deadline to submit the survey?

November 19th, 2021

When do I have to send the gift by?

December 31st, 2021

What if I sign up but can no longer participate?

We understand that everyone has lives outside of Tumblr. If you sign up but later decide you are no longer able to participate, that is okay. As long as you let us know as soon as possible, we will not hold it against you. However, you don’t let us know and just disappear on us and your giftee, we will ban you from participating in any future gift exchanges.

Why are you doing this? Why should I participate?

We think it’s a great way to connect the fandom, as well as other content creators! We are not the first fandom to host an event like this, you may have even participated in some. If so, you can attest to how much fun they are. We really hope to see some amazing content come out of this! In addition, you should participate not only because you are getting something out of it (content that is created specifically for you) but also because you get to create something amazing for someone else! This is also a great way to form friendships with other people in the fandom that you may not have otherwise connected with.

Can I request certain content I am okay with receiving or not okay receiving? Can I request what kind of content I am able to create?

Absolutely! We understand that everyone has a preference when it comes to content, and we know that not every content creator is skilled in every area. On the form, you will find check boxes where you can indicate what kind of content you are able to create, as well as what kind of content you would like to receive.

Can I request specifics about the gift, such as pairings and tropes I want to see or don’t want to see? Can I request specifics about the kind of content I am okay or not okay with creating?

Yes! We know people have strong opinions on the pairings in these shows and want everyone to feel comfortable with the stuff they are making and receiving. In addition, we do not want anyone to receive anything that could possibly be triggering. With that in mind, we provided open-ended questions where you can talk about what kinds of things you like to see in content and what you do not want to see, and another question where you can talk about the same thing in terms of what you are okay with creating and not okay with. We would also encourage everyone to allow anonymous asks, so that if the people creating the gift for you can reach you and ask you specific questions about the content they are making for you while keeping their identity a secret until they are ready to share!

How do I sign up?

All you have to do is fill out the Google Form and submit by November 19th!

Do I have to be okay with making and receiving content from both 911 and 911 Lone Star?

Not at all! If you have a strong preference for one of the shows, there is a question on the form where you can indicate which one you would prefer to work with. If you are fine with both, that’s great too! We will do our very best to make sure everyone is matched with people who are interested in the same show.

Does the content I create have to be winter/holiday related?

Not necessarily! While this is a holiday gift exchange, the content you create does not have to include themes of the holidays or the winter, but it can!

I don’t feel confident I can create something. Is there a way I can still participate?

Absolutely! All the gifts will be posted here on tumblr and reblogged to this page. As they come in, feel free to peruse and enjoy, all we ask is that you support the creators who worked so hard by providing feedback. That can be a reblog to help spread the word, a comment on the story in Ao3, or a message sent to them on tumblr to tell them how much you enjoy their work. Remember, content creators do this for free so any appreciation you can show is always nice!

Does the content I create for someone have to be posted publicly?

We strongly encourage that the gift you make be posted publicly on your blog. That way, we can reblog it on here for everyone to say. We think that this is a great way to promote the amazing content creators in this fandom. However, if you would rather privately send what you make to the person you are assigned, that is fine too. We just ask for you to give us a heads up and confirm that you did send something to that person.
