honestly the AFHF project is so cool and I will be forever annoyed at the fact that it's so unnoticed and unadvertised like THAT is something that would deserve interviews.....

its so cringe that lottie posted that picture as a FAVORITE family picture, like, ever since my grandma passed away and my other grandparents are getting older, pictures with them just become more precious, and she wants us to believe that her favorite family picture is one that doesn’t include her mother and sister that have passed??

28th appreciation fic recs: January edition
Hi! Welcome to the first fic rec list of 2024! I wanted to put together all the fics I've read and loved over January for this month's 28th appreciation, so here they are! Click on the links for full tags and summaries. If you read any of these make sure to show the authors some love by leaving kudos and comments, and sharing any fic posts!
🌸 Morning comes by @nooradeservedbetter
(5k / E / Sub Top L, Dom bottom H)
The stranger gestures at what they’re wearing, and oh, it’s not a shirt, it’s a white crop top, black lettering star against it. It says I ♡ SUBMISSIVE MEN in bold, capital letters.
Thoughts: we simply need more pwps that explore dynamics like this, this was delicious, and I looove how natural the chemistry between them felt. So good.
🌸 Dreaming of a green Christmas by @hellolovers13
(4k / E / Size queen L, xmas smut)
Harry opens the wrong package by mistake and finds the sex toy Louis ordered for himself. That's not an opportunity Harry can pass up on.
Thoughts: its never too late to indulge in some christmas smut, its got size queen L ffs what are you waiting for!! Its hot, its a snack to be devoured, it's a little gift, in short.
🌸 Sweet baby by @jishlerfics
(5k / E / kink discovery)
“Haz,” he said, “do you like being held down?” Taking a shaky breath, Harry finally looked Louis in the eyes. “I think so.”
Thoughts: this is part one of a series that I'm excited to read. This is perfect and sweet and hot in every way possible, i loved it so much.
🌸 Revelatory experience by @justanothershadeofblue
(3k / E / religion kink)
Harry's not sure if it's the sound of Louis' voice, the thrill of the forbidden, or just that he's really fucking horny, but he's about to find out how well the velvet cushion in this dark little wooden booth hides a stain.
Thoughts: this was so fucking hot. Like, they're in a confession booth. That should be enough of an appetizer for y'all to go read this!
🌸 Jaerie's Kinktober: Sounding by @jaerie
(3k / E / sounding)
Louis has been casually dating Harry for a while, but tonight he plans to stay in for a much needed stress relief night of self love. He unexpectedly shares that particular love with Harry. When they discover this, they go all in.
Thoughts: so hot. We need more sounding fics. Meanwhile, do yourself a favor and indulge in this. Also love the lil bit of imperfect sex at the end.
🌸 With a sea view by @greeneyesfriedrice
(5k / E / boat smut)
Stepping onto the main deck, Harry grabs a maroon towel, squeezing all the water he can out of his hair, though it’s similar to how a dog dries off after a bath. He doesn’t bother drying the rest of his body, that’s what suntanning is for. He places the towel into a small bin and looks around. Time to find Louis.
Thoughts: so goddamn hot. But also very sweet and they're so in love which is a god tier combination. Laur never has a miss.
🌸 Heaven in these sheets by @thepolourryexpress
(3k / E / bunny! hybrid Louis)
“Bunny wants attention, hm?” Harry murmurs, turning his head and brushing his cheek against Louis’. Louis lets out a pleased noise at the feeling, ear flopping over Harry’s head as the man moves. “Please,” Louis pouts lightly, scraping his nails gently over Harry’s chest. “C’mon.” Or, Bunny Hybrid Louis has it out for his boyfriend’s phone.
Thoughts: bunny Louis is so sweet and precious, harry is the ever doting bf, and it just makes for delicious smut that also just made me feel!!!!
🌸 Mr Tomlinson by @canonlarry
(4k / E / CEO omega L)
Louis is a billionaire CEO who makes grown men cry and rival companies crumble. He's also an omega. Harry is the quiet cupcake of a man he calls his alpha and the only one who gets to see Louis as anything less than fearsome
Thoughts: powerful ceo to all, gets taken care of by partner behind doors is such a fav trope of mine and this one is SO good. I loved this one so so much.
🌸 it's always me that ends up getting wet by @loveislarryislove
(2k / E / role play, dubcon fantasy)
As Louis takes a step towards the stairs to look for his husband, his eye lands on the small round table at the foot of the staircase. It's thin and spindly, so they don't usually use it for much besides decoration. But today, there are three objects sitting on top of it. A blue policeman's hat. A small, silver key, that Louis recognizes as belonging to a pair of handcuffs. And a note, written in Harry's distinctive handwriting: I'm waiting for you downstairs ;)
Thoughts: this was so insanely good, I love a good roleplay fic and I ate this up. Every single word in this was addictive.
This is a short list, bc I've been really busy and tired. But I hope I get to read more next month. Anyways If you check these out, give these works some love. Fic writers I love youuuu X

It's so annoying when Nalyra and this book group use excuses like this as if we're all dumb. There's lots of people who talk about the books and the show without being racist about it. The deeper issue here is not because people haven't read the books and think what you're saying is shocking.... What's really happening is that this group of BFFs loves to remove all mention of race from everything. They love pretending you can just overlay the books to the AMC show and it's a perfect match. Then, when anyone mentions how important it is to factor in race when discussing these things, here comes the screaming victimhood and all the "it's what's in the book" gifs. The "I'm sorry you just can't handle gothic literature SWEETIE" attitudes that are v tiring. Any race can be racist too (isn't that this group's favorite line too, they should know....) and only care for the wellbeing of white fandom, so these brown emojis or black fans who will make callout lists on other black fans under the language of calling out "fandom issues" or "antis" aren't fooling anyone to what the real motivation is behind it. People who worship Anne Rice are always going to be airheads who can't take criticism because look at your girl and all she was ever doing. Any adult who wants to defend her or the books is not a critical thinker or an intellectual. It's v possible to discuss her and the books without the stan goggles on. The black fans this group is always sneering at do it all the time. That's probably where the real issue lies, because it's done much better than the horseshit fanon Nalyra, Virgnia, and the rest are slinging and thinking is epic meta or something. I lurked for a long time before coming here to start pointing this out. I've seen these egos get bigger since the show has been off the air and book people crawled out from the depths to try and tell everyone "what's going to happen." It's a stupid power trip and nothing else. This group doesn't have the ability to analyze anything like they think they do, so they've grown together since the show stopped airing to start harassing other fans and pretend they're the victims just because they don't think talking about race is important in their....erm...."analysis" lol. They only think they have power because the fandom became smaller when S1 ended. They're gonna be muted again when it comes back because they aren't keeping up with the themes of the show and their takes aren't interesting. Saying the white man is always innocent, the black man is lying, the brown man is manipulative is what society already does. It's boring and it's not what the show has shown us in its own canon that it's doing. This group and white fandom in general love to take an inch and run a mile with it. Whenever anyone (but especially Jacob) mentions Louis might be a liar or an unreliable narrator they're jumping on the chance to spread that statement over every part of the story. They want so much for all of it not to be true because they need Lestat to be the good guy. They always claim they love stories about monsters except their favorite white guy can't even stay a monster for them to adore him. He can't ever even be any kind of fuck up and grow from it, he's just supposed to immediately be perfect. What's the point of the story then ffs? This is why you need to read other books that aren't written by idiot, egomaniacal authors who don't have editors and are in love with their own creations. If you always find a way to excuse the white characters, say all the black and brown characters are the unreliable, scheming ones, and scream and yell "it's what's in the books" whenever anyone reminds you to notice race......then you're just racist, girl. It's not even a mystery lol so stop this crap like you're fooling anyone. You can be as loud as you want but it doesn't mean you're actually a victim of anything but your own racist stupidity. Just because Anne Rice didn't get as much pushback as she deserved in her dumb life doesn't mean you're going to get the same treatment. It's 2024, bitch.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam Sue the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) for the Misuse of the Word “Anti-Semite”
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL
For immediate release
October 21, 2023
The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam Sue the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) for the Misuse of the Word “Anti-Semite”
Chicago—On October 16, 2023, which was the 28th Anniversary of the Million Man March, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam (NOI) sued the ADL, its CEO, Johnathan Greenblatt, SWC, and Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the SWC in the Federal Court of the Southern District of New York for 1st Amendment violations and for defamation.
For over 40 years, the Defendants have falsely labeled Minister Farrakhan and the NOI as “anti-Semites,” and as “anti-Semitic” because of a difference in theological viewpoints, and for his pointing out misbehavior of some members of the Jewish community, among other things.  This false labeling has hindered Minister Farrakhan in his Mission, which is to deliver the Truth taught by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad that will correct the condition of spiritual, mental and moral death of the Black man and woman of America that came as a result of the 310 years of chattel slavery and over 150 years of oppression and suppression thereafter.
Minister Farrakhan and the NOI, in bringing this action, are keenly aware that good, law-abiding citizens are likewise victims of this mischaracterization including, the late Nelson Mandela, President Jimmy Carter, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Bishop Desmond Tutu, and many more.
The Defendants have, at times, indiscriminately and arbitrarily mislabeled countless politicians, entertainers, athletes, authors, educators, public speakers, academicians, comedians, and others, as being “anti-Semites” and as “anti-Semitic,” simply because, in many instances, the speaker did not agree with the Defendants’ point of view and, in some instances, simply because the person made a favorable comment about Minister Farrakhan and/or the Nation of Islam.
The importance of this case extends far beyond the named Plaintiffs, but it encompasses every citizen of America who values the freedom of speech, the freedom to exercise his or her religion, and the freedom to associate with persons of like interests.
These unjust actions by the Defendants, over the years, have caused many to fear their censure and rebuke, which, thereby, significantly erodes, and has a chilling effect, on the protections woven into the fabric of the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and must not be accepted.

If it is the will of Allah (God), Minister Farrakhan will personally address the filing of the lawsuit at a press conference in the near future.

It’s not about not liking wine it’s about rejecting anything that could even remotely be considered feminine like being appalled by the idea of a picnic with Prosecco or pretending he doesn’t have a hair care routine or not caring about clothes that aren’t tracksuits or anything expensive and bougie at all it’s about rejecting pop and literally any music made for or by women?
y’all have such weird ass ideas of gender. regressive as fuck
leave him alone lmfao the majority of what you listed here LITERALLY isn’t that deep
if you want to stan a singer that talks about prosecco and picnics in the park (???! Who the FUCK cares) and doesn’t wear tracksuits (ITS 2022 how are you not over the tracksuits ffs) GO FIND ONE
no one is stopping you leave louis ALONEEEE

Hi-
Sorry if this has been discussed previously. I am curious do you think the fans that hate Lestat and think he is racist are going to fight tooth and nail and argue with everyone for the couples to be rewritten? Basically are they going to hate watch and continue to act like Louis is a child and victim and Lestat is the worst character on earth?
As a black viewer I still can't figure out why some people think that Jacob, a black man would accept and praise a show where his character was in love with a racist. I mean who does that? Or if Sam was a racist, why would Jacob ever develop and gush over his deep friendship and love with Sam? That would be absurd.
Jacob is definitely aware of social media from his days on GOT. So I could never see him on any level being cool with being seen as a simp to a racist white male character. And any fan of Jacob should feel the same way. Sorry for the rant but this narrative has been getting on my nerves since episode 5.
Hey!
(No need to apologize)
IDK, there's some people who use this word a lot to silence criticism, and who "throw it around" like candy, as if it were nothing tbh. I find that sufficiently disturbing, because by doing so they are watering it down, and it really shouldn't be.
Personally I think Jacob is very aware of it all, and the show and cast is, too. Jacob even pointed out at a panel that he is living a version of Louis' life every day ffs. And he also said that they were aware of the backlash, and that they weren't giving it more attention on purpose.
They are aware.
This show dares to put its finger into wounds. They might not always do so perfectly, but the fact that they do it is so important imho. And of course that has been discussed at length with them all, and of course Jacob, who said he felt "seen" by the script and by this part, would not return, nor have this close-knit relationship to Sam (i.e.) if... this accusation would hold.
To return to your initial question - I think the fans thinking Lestat is actually racist are in for a ride. They might hate watch, totally possible. But they are missing the layers of the show - and, ironically, willfully so, just as Lestat is ignoring Louis' racial issues willfully at times (because, as a white man, he can - and he has not yet learned to see them, at least in the beginning).
So yeah, I fully expect them to continue to hate on him, and a big part of them won't like what's to come, and will feel betrayed.
As per the victim thing... and the statement of Louis "never being an unbelievable victim" (iirc) - well, the show never said to whom. I'm afraid they're in for a ride there as well, and there, again, they will feel betrayed. Unfortunately.
The relationships in the books won't get rewritten. I'm not sure how that should even be possible (see my lengthy rant yesterday^^, but also it has been said that Loustat will stay the basis of it all).
I'm looking forward to the show shifting to the European version of it all btw. Months ago, the IWTV writers shared their inspiration / research so I think they will do some ... interesting statements there as well. Put their fingers into other wounds. And Dubai as the place for the shows Trinity Gate (I think) is not a coincidence either.
So yeah. I don't quite get where these people are coming from either^^. Because this show... these people... are quite aware.

Do you think that the idea of Larry would have had the legs that it unfortunately seems to have, if not for the success of the Larry focused fan fiction writers? I do think it has decreased from its heyday, but it does seem that newer Twitter Larries and the old tumblr Larries are still very tied to the idea of H/L and that a lot of their ideas come straight from AO3. I often think that fan fiction is the only thing keeping many of the Larries around.
It’s so strange. Fan fiction for fictional characters - Harry Potter for example - can continue a story that has ended. But fan fiction for real people can continually build as their lives change. I often read comments from Larries that have literally zero connection to real life Harry and Louis, but clearly come from fan fiction tropes. The overtly sexual bottom/top discussions, the pornographic BDSM stuff, the idea of baby Harry and dominant Louis - it all comes from writing, not real life.
Anyway, just wonder if the FF had never taken off, if Larry would have completely died out back in 2012 when it should have.
Blame Archive of Our Own! A03 launched in 2009 and definitely has a lot to answer for in terms of making RPF far more easily accessible than it was before. They allow any kind of Larry fic on there, including gross pedophilia and bestiality stories.
Wattpad was launched even earlier - in 2006 - but Harry/Original Female Character fics are much more popular on there than Larry fics.

I don't know if he feels above self promo or if he feels uncomfortable touting himself. I do think even after all these years and his confidence being the highest its been he still suffers from imposters syndrome and some guilt over his success but he needs to understand that its an occupational pitfall, its a must and if he doesn't want to do it he needs to hire someone to take care of it for him.
*sigh* okay, let me elaborate on what I meant. And this is all just my opinion from watching him and listening to what he's been saying in most of his interviews and just in general (and this will be a jumbled mess because well... nothing makes sense anyways).
In the recent NME interview, he talked about radio isn't an ideal place to discover new music (i.e. all of it is shit) and that he goes out of his way to seek out new artists and music that excites him. They're not selling themselves to him, he's seeking them out.
So it feels like in a similar vein, he feels like he can't try too hard to get people to like him or his music. He shouldn't court them, they should just discover the music *somehow* and stick around because they liked it. He can't be seen as wanting this too much, because that's not cool and not what how thinks a real musician should behave.
It could also definitely tie into how he feels like his music isn't something worth pushing and being consumed- he left it off the F1 playlist ffs. And he definitely shoots himself in the foot when he says shit like "he could have made a more commercially successful album" but instead he chose to just make music he likes. (It may be shocking news Louis, it can be both at once)
Your point about feeling guilt over his success is interesting. That could definitely be part of why he won't let 1D go.. the only reason he has the career he has now, and the fanbase he has now, is because he came out of the band. And he feels like he still owes them his success.
Which then leads into his over-reliance on the fans. Again in the NME interview - he talked about how he had watched Stone perform on youtube and that he was excited for them. Looking them up briefly - most of their live performances are fan videos. So perpetuating the idea that if you have a few fans, they share your music for you and in turn attract new fans.
Which would work if he was some unknown artist just starting out. But he's not.
He could be the most humble person on earth and not like essentially bragging about himself and his music. But that doesn't work - he's famous - has been for close to half his life now - and he's a popstar. There's a certain amount of ego that someone needs to even *want* to do this and if he wants to continue his career at at least the same level he needs to get over whatever hangups he has about his fame, his confidence, not fitting in etc etc and actually start promoting his music and speaking about it without an air of self-deprecation.

I just saw #allofthosevoices
So, i dont see the point of this movie really. We learn nothing.
Part 1 Its talk about 1d. I loved this moment. My best part. But we already knew that Louis love the band, was put down and lost in confidence in it then love writing 1d songs and didnt want the hiatus.
Part 2 Family moment. The sad music, the granpa who maked me cry, painting Louis as someone who lose everything his band his mother his sister etc. Like he has only his family and his music. He is a person too with his hobbies friends and ffs his husband ! I will talk about it later. No private life no lovers. Louis has been single all his life. Officially with the same girl during 10 years but they broke so nothing about her ? Ok... And suddenly he is a father. Will talk about it later too.
Part 3 His solo career. A bit of what we saw in afhf doc and of the videos about his tour posted in Instagram. Nothing new.
We learn nothing. If you are a fan you already knew everything. If you arent you will not going to see this movie.
There is not point to make a movie there.
He doesnt talk about the bad during 1d. We know it wasnt just a good time. He cant.
He doesnt talk about the fact that he is a part of lgbt communauty. It miss so much. A lot of lgbt flags. He cant coming out.
And he doesnt talk about his love life. H misses so much. Its so unfair. Because Louis wasnt alone when he lost his mother etc and he is OK also because of H by his side. He is the love of his life since 13 years and he cant be in the movie about his life !
The kid part...In the middle, like a hair on the soup, the 5 minutes with the kid. It doesn't add anything. We don't understand why it's there. He says cliché things about fatherhood. It sounds false. The moments with the kid seem wrong. The kid looks at the camera in a weird way, like he's wondering what he's doing there. Nothing is natural. I compared one of the hugs with my 7 year old son and his dad and it was nothing like that. Mine would have laughed and enjoyed the hug and the little one looks like he's nervous and wants to run away. For me those 5 mins are just a reminder that he is a father. To end it or to anchor it the future will tell.
So yeah it really miss something in this movie. The real truth. The total truth. Its not all his life just the part he can tell. It was ok. I dont love him more after this. I am not more proud of him. I already knew him and love him. He is kind humble and sensitive. A good guy and a great artist. Close of his fans. A family guy (who will definitely not live in another country that his child when he will be a father).
This doc is good for fans but dont bring anything really.

AMC patron saint of using vampires to teach us human rights, patron saint of hijacking stories with the exploitation of the noble fight against racist and homophobic behaviors with the purpose of promoting their own story using the fame of Anne Rice and the attention of people who don't really care about human rights but only its shell, necessary to show the world that they're not rotting inside, that they're good people better than the others.
AMC who didn't want to write about the exploitation of slaves because that's bad and about Lestat's incestuous relationship with his mother because that's sick. AMC who cut out all the horrors but kept the prostitutes, who basically are slaves forced to open their legs for any crusty, dirty, ill, old man who will demand their bodies to use as disposable plates from which eat and then throw away. But no, their presence instead of the slaves in the fields can be justified because they create a sexual atmosphere all around Louis, as if they're objects, as if they're a frame for Louis' portrait.
AMC who wanted Claudia to be violated, also allegedly aging her up to make her the perfect Lolita for this very moment. Wasn't she worthy of all these discourses about equity, freedom and empowerment? Of the fight for rights? Of justice? Or was this valid only for Louis, the one you put on display to attract the social justice warriors? Weren't Claudia and the prostitutes worthy of love? No, of course not. Because women don't matter as much as men, if they get treated like means to carry the plot, to make it more dramatic and deep through the tragedies that happen to them. No one suffers that much for what happens to them, because deep down in people's subconscious there's this tiny tiny adorable thing of us being perceived as objects.
I wouldn't have written anything if this series had been kept as it is, so a horror story. If horrible, disgusting things had kept happening to both men and women because that's what happens in horror stories. Obviously I would have took my time to digest every act of violence, because I don't cope well with it. Horror and violence deeply disgust me. But I wouldn't have had any right to protest, because I knew that it was my choice to watch a horror story. But this? This is not a horror story. Rolin Jones can't go to panels and say that he wanted to cut out the most disturbing things because "he wouldn't know how to write them" (but the r*pe of a 14 years old girl you knew how to write very well...) and that it would have become a romance.
AMC patron saint of respecting Anne Rice, repeating it obsessively in order to manipulate us into believing that they're respectful when we'll see that the characters are the contrary of their original selves. AMC is so respectful of Anne Rice in fact that they made the character that technically was her daughter, r*ped. You're so respectful of her. Writing "Anne Rice's Interview with the vampire" as the opening title of every episode isn't enough to show her respect if you r*pe the character who had the cathartic role necessary to make her metabolize the death of her baby girl.
It isn't enough if you show her that one of her deepest nightmares is coming to life just DAYS before her death: that her characters are being rewritten and substituted by other people, permanently changing their appearance in the public eye. The enemy never was ff writers, but tv channels who truly have the power to butcher your character permanently. Because the public won't care if you've written differently, what will stay tattooed in their minds will be the scenes they saw with their eyes. This is the irony of life. It's ironic that she has passed so much time being a nightmare to poor fans who simply wanted to pay homage to her art while that amount of power had to be put against who really could do something so vile: AMC. It's ironic that what she dreaded the most happened when she couldn't stop them. AMC fucked the vampire chronicles up irreparably. But that's not enough for them. They want to get to the fans too, by apparently making them sign something on their game to own any plot that the fans naively will write while playing, so that they are legally protected while USING YOU to add new parts for their tv series.
AMC is taking and taking and taking. Copying cute scenarios that seem coming from some posts that a vc fan could have written here on Tumblr. Spitting on the memory of Michele Rice, ruining Anne's work of her lifetime. Throwing away characters because they weren't efficient enough in their work aka Daniel, while their Daniel was such a disaster in the first interview and og Daniel managed to make such a good interview in extreme conditions of fear, lucid.
Now I'm really curious about what stories will people invent to defend a channel who wrote a romantic story in which it's not ok to commit any crime except for r*ping a girl. Let's see.

no I'm not saying people only watched the show cause whatever actor was in it, just that bailey's claudia or jacob's louis is the only version of those characters for them, if they're not into the books or haven't seen other adaptations. book fans are more loyal to the overall property cause they've already seen multiple versions of these characters and already care about them in the books. louis and claudia are meant to be almost equally important in the second half of iwtv and i know i would completely lose interest in the whole show if jacob was suddenly recast so I do get why some would feel that way about bailey.
Cool i never said there was anything wrong w being strictly show only in fact i sympathize w ppl who r n i 100% have emphasized the significance [or luck of] the ppl who were introduced to bailey bass’s claudia as well as jacob anderson’s louis. they both r powerful actors in their own right who have invested themselves deeply into their roles. it is fine if u dont wanna watch no more cuz of bailey thats ur prerogative in fiction& i respect that. my thing is ive had multiple ppl anons ive deleted only a few i respond to tell me how they have lowered expectations of delainey/wont care for delainey!claudia the same/how im wrong n somehow aint care bout bailey[LOL] and my point is how is that fair to anyone? how r u respecting my own prerogative in fiction much less delainey’s own potential investment into playing claudia? i mean ffs yall give the girl a chance to at least show u what she workin w before yall go off in fits ike s2 gone start off w claudia in the sun already just cuz bailey not there no more. im struggling to think what yall want me to tell u when i quite frankly am starting to think im giving yall more grace than yall give me to have my own opinions + prerogatives in dealing w this. all i said is give this young black woman caught in the midst of a controversial unexpected decision a chance. dont let this surprise sour ur view of her cuz its not her fault. n yall act like i said fuck bailey or like i ever suggested baileys not as important as the others. when i never said any of that. its weird, its played out, its lowkey starting to get on my nerves.

TVL & VC Thoughts: Storyboarding
Because I have insomnia, I was up all night thinking about the rumors that Sam's contract was signed for 5 seasons. It makes me both nervous and hopeful, cuz Lestat features in way more than just 5 VC books. So if there's only 5 seasons locked in (hopefully NOT counting IWTV being split into 2, meaning Sam only has 3 other seasons), I'm wondering what these 3-ish other seasons would cover? 🤔 Hour-long episodes are enough to condense SOME of the books into 7/8-ep seasons, but not others.
TVL & QotD are ofc the bigguns, that COULD be condensed into one season, but SHOULD get their own individual ones, IMO.
ToTBT - urgh. I already said I hate this book. NGL I hope they condense this into 2 episodes MAX, as filler. Raglan was basically a monster-of-the-week. We do NOT need to be sitting here watching Lestat re-learn how to poop & pee. And ffs get rid of David, he literally just got in the way; let that dude retire! Having Ciprien come back'd be a cool feature/crossover, but I really don't need Lestat out here traumatizing more black people, thanks. 😒
MTD - yoooo.... What do you even DO with this? XD Like, I can't imagine having a whole frikkin season of Lestat's Inferno, but without Memnoch you lose ALL context behind Lestat's coma, his missing eyeball, Armand's suicide attempt, Louis' suicide attempt, and Lestat's course correction as a character. 😈 It was the fallout post-Memnoch that is so important to Lestat's story; but TBH I can honestly see the bulk of MTD itself condensed into 2 filler episodes tops.
Merrick - IMO this needs to be integrated into IWTV2 as part of Louis' storyline, not Lestat's. Even though it's here that he (officially) wakes from the coma (post-TVA--which IMO deserves its own spinoff season; we need more Assad if they don't cover Armand's backstory in IWTV2).
Blackwood Farm - NGL I want a whole dang season of BwF. 😅 IMO it's the craziest VC book, we NEED to see these people on screen. We'd get that Merrick Mayfair feature, too--but if they do her dirty here like AR, Imma be FURIOUS.
Blood Canticle - 💩 TRASH!!!!! 💩
Prince Lestat & RoA & BC: TBH I think these should all be merged into one season, as they all deal with Rhoshamandes. If QotD sets up Amel early, AND includes MEKARE, then PL should get right to the action. RoA was padded with a LOT of straight descriptions, which can EASILY be condensed on screen with visuals--that's the book that needed to be illustrated! RoA really doesn't need its own season; we just need to see Rhosh established as the Big Bad in PL & RoA, and get Amel's backstory. (I HOPE they'll keep the aliens in, but AR was obviously using bird-feathered/winged extraterrestrials as the secular answer to Christianity's angels, so I'm fine either way. I'll be sad if they cut them all out entirely and Amel's JUST a (human) ghost). As for BC, it wasn't a long book at all; it just had a lot of BIG, iconic moments. I DEMAND to see Chateau Era Loustat domestic tooth-rotting fluff on my effing screen, ISTG. 🙏 This is the series finale--it deserves to give Loustat E V E R Y T H I N G; from the lowest lows to the greatest highs. I need Prince Consort Louis bossed up. 🤴🏾 I need Lestat having a mental breakdown just like Louis did when Daniel was tearing him to shreds in Ep7. I need Armand screaming, crying, throwing up. I need the WEDDING(S). I need the BALLROOM. I will sue.
Naturally, I could be waaaaay off on all of this. U_U

Rookie Critic's Film Review Weekend Wrap-Up - Weeks of 5/8-5/14/2023 & 5/15-5/21/2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My apologies for the review interruption over the past couple of weeks. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came out and that has taken up all of my free time. HOWEVER, I have still be watching movies like normal, so here's a slightly condensed Weekend Wrap-Up for ya.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023, dir. Kelly Fremon Craig) This was wonderful. I already wrote a full review on it, so I won't gush any more about it here, but I have literally 0 complaints. Just a beautiful, fun, and heartfelt look at pre-adolescence and motherhood. A good time for all ages.
Score: 10/10
Only in theaters. You can read my full review of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. here.
Hypnotic (2023, dir. Robert Rodriguez) Robert Rodriguez sure knows how to write twists and turns in a plot. The directions that Hypnotic's story goes in were pleasantly unpredictable and exciting. Sadly, the film overall is very tonally uneven. It's got traces of Rodriguez's signature camp, but they're just that, traces. The movie as a whole tries to play itself a little more seriously than a plot this crazy requires, and it ends up overshooting the entertainment value into territory that feels a little disingenuous. Ben Affleck and William Fichtner, who really needs to be in more stuff, were both high points of the film, and the color correction on certain aspects of the movie felt really inspired. Rodriguez got the the look down to a T, I just don't think he quite stuck the landing.
Score: 6/10
Only in theaters.
BlackBerry (2023, dir. Matt Johnson) What an unexpected masterpiece of comedic historical dramatization, this was. The comedy was excellent, the acting was excellent, the stylizes cinematography was excellent. Everything about this film was engaging, fun, and satisfying. It's also, as a side-effect, incredibly informative. I haven't done the research into fact vs. fiction on this one, but if even half of the stuff that happened in this was true, what an absolute farce history of Research in Motion and the BlackBerry was, and I mean that in the most grateful, loving way possible. We wouldn't be where we are today without this little device, and as much of a clusterfuck as the history of it's existence seems to be, I'm glad we're here. This is easily one of the best things I've seen so far this year, and so far it seems to be flying severely under the radar. If you have a theater near you that's showing this, do yourself a favor and catch a screening of it and BUCKLE UP for a wild fun ride.
Score: 10/10
Only theaters. Plus, @prozdvoices was in it, which really makes it an 11/10.
Fool's Paradise (2023, dir. Charlie Day) I wanted this to be so great. I absolutely adore Charlie Day and when I heard he would be directing his first feature film with the cast that this movie has I got so excited. To its credit, the first half of the film is genuinely hilarious, an homage to Keaton/Chaplin-era physical comedy while exhibiting the beginnings of a biting satire on Hollywood, but somewhere in the middle of it all Day's script looses its footing and never really gets it back. The slapstick goes out the window, the comedy stops being funny and trades that in for bewildering, and the conclusion to it all ends up being wholly unsatisfying and, honestly, made the whole thing feel like a waste of time. If the second half had been anywhere near as good as the first, this would be a very different review, but it wasn't, so here we are. Better luck on the sophomore feature, Day.
Score: 4/10
Only in theaters.
Fast X (2023, dir. Louis Leterrier) I really don't understand the poor reviews this one is getting if other entries in this franchise have been well received. It's not without it's issues, as most of the FF films aren't, but it is still one helluva ride. I will say probably my biggest complaint with this one is that some of it just looks.... odd. Like the CG is whatever, I'm down with the shitty CG in these movies at this point, that's just part of the Fast & Furious charm, but there are shots that just look strange. I'm not really sure how to put it, like the foreground is at one FPS and the background is at another. Just very uncanny valley. It gives the film a look and feel to it that's unlike any of the other films, and in that way I wasn't a huge fan. That being said, the crazy car action is second-to-none and nearly non-stop, and the script handles the Family being split up for most of the film way better than past installments have with that same setup. This will most likely be my full-length come Wednesday, so I'll leave it there for now, but just know that, if you like this franchise, Fast X is going to give you everything you've come to love about it and expect from it.
Score: 7/10
Only in theaters.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie - (2022, dir. Andy Suriano & Ant Ward) This was watched as part of my college friend group's movie nights at the request of a friend whose birthday was coming up. I've never seen the show and don't really know anything about it past what I've been told by said friend and just my general TMNT knowledge (although this iteration of the heroes in a half-shell is very different than what most people would be used to). It was genuinely wonderful. The animation was spectacularly breathtaking (seriously, I can't hype up how gorgeously animated this film is), and the story, as Days of Future Past-y as it was, felt very fresh. The personalities of the Turtles are different from the original, but it's all a very welcome change. Raphael and Leonardo are practically flipped, with Raph taking on the "big brother" role that's normally occupied by Leo and Leo taking on the "aloof and antagonistic" role that's normally occupied by Raph. Donatello is more or less the same, a genius idiosyncratic inventor, but in this version he canonically has autism, which is represented well and the laughs that come from his character are never at the expense of his disorder. Similarly, Michelangelo is basically the same as his original counterpart (even moreso than Donnie), but in this story he canonically has ADHD. All of their clashing personality types meld together so well, and the chemistry between them is even more infectious, I would say, than the original versions of the characters. They could not have nailed what makes the central four brothers work, while also giving audiences a entirely new central four at the same time, than they did. As far as the villain of the film goes, the way the Kraang (who are depicted here as an entire race of creatures) are represented here is truly unsettling and almost in a Cronenberg/Lynch vein that I absolutely loved. RotTMNT: The Movie drops in you into its world, doesn't mince words, and gets you out of there in a cool 86 minutes, and it was a stellar time. I will, without question, be checking out the show as a result. If you're the kind of TMNT fan that's receptive and open to different takes on this world and these characters, then you'll love this.
Score: 8/10

STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie (2023, dir. Davis Guggenheim) This has got to be one of the most unique and intriguing documentaries I've ever seen. The way Fox's story is told here is stunning, using a mix of modern narration, dramatic re-enactment, and archival footage (acting as both legitimate archival footage and as a narrative device at separate times) to accent and highlight the actor's life in the most poignant, striking way possible. Fox himself has such an electric personality it's hard not to fall in love with him over the course of the film's 95 minutes (that is, of course, if you weren't already in love him before). I read somewhere that there's nothing particularly revelatory about STILL, but I beg to differ. I'll admit, showing the portrait of a man's life who had it all, had taken the world by storm and was running away with it, only to be knocked down in his prime by something wholly out of control isn't anything too new. However, what makes STILL work, and what sets it apart, is that the story doesn't stop there. Fox refuses to give up. He's not fooling himself at the reality of his situation with Parkinson's, but he remains hopeful, he remains vivid, and he remains electric. Fox refuses to quit, to back down from his life, and is actively maintaining any control he can still have over it. It's inspiring and heartbreaking all at the same time, one never replacing the other, both coexisting in every moment, and that's not a particularly easy thing to pull off. I was quite taken by this, and urge all with access to check it out.
Score: 10/10
Currently streaming on Apple TV+.
