#And a government for hire and a combat site

39-year-old Charles Morgan appeared as though he lived a very unassuming life. He worked as an escrow agent in Tucson, Arizona, and lived at home with his wife and children. However, most didn’t know, that at least according to him, he was working as an agent for the federal government, offering assistance in combating organised crime.
On 22 March, 1977, Charles disappeared without a trace. His family heard nothing from him until a couple of days later, when he burst through the front door of their Tucson home. As he silently rummaged through the house, he grabbed a pen and piece of paper and detailed a bizarre story. He wrote down that he was unable to speak because he had been kidnapped, tortured, and then hallucinogenic drug poured down his throat, rendering him speechless. Of course his wife wanted to go immediately to authorities but Charles refused and then detailed his involvement with the government.
Two months later, Charles disappeared once again. However, this time he wouldn’t be returning home. 11 days later, his body was discovered alongside his discarded car 40 miles west of his home. There was a bullet wound to the back of his head and he was clad in a bulletproof vest and armed with a knife and holster. He had been shot with his own .357-caliber magnum which was completely devoid of any fingerprints. Even more bizarre, one of his own teeth was discovered wrapped up in his pocket as well as a pair of sunglasses that didn’t belong to him and a piece of paper with directions of how to get to the murder site. Pinned to his underwear, investigators found a dollar bill.
The dollar bill had seven Spanish names written on the face as well as a bible citation - Ecclesiastes 12:1-8. Before Charles’ body was discovered, his wife received an odd phone call from a woman who referred to herself as “Green Eyes.” The woman said nothing other than her name and the same bible citation that was found on the dollar bill. This mysterious woman made herself known to police and told them that she had known Charles and that she had seen him before his death. He showed the woman a briefcase stocked with money that he said he was using to buy off a hit man who had been hired to kill him.
Nevertheless, Charles’ death was ruled as suicide and the mysterious Green Eyes disappeared after telling authorities her side of the story. So why did he meet his demise? One theory is that he certainly was working as a secret agent which would make him a target for many unsavory characters. Another theory is that his escrow business was a ploy for money laundering which went south. What’s clear, to most at least, is that Charles, clad in a bulletproof vest, certainly didn’t shoot himself in the back of the head even if the FBI likes to claim so.

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs
Don't mis-serve your own needs

pointing a gun at you. tell me about Bluebonnet I want to Know
The RWBY version of Bluebonnet is a Huntress from Vacuo who graduated from Shade Academy and remained active in the Kingdom. She's one of the Kingdom's top Huntresses and is well-known for hunting down both dangerous Grimm and dangerous criminals. Bluebonnet has a reputation for taking jobs others are afraid to tackle and is popular among those who live outside the main city as a result. She fights with a pair of revolvers that fire specially modified Dust rounds with various effects, but she's no slouch in melee, as more than one opponent has found out - get close enough to nullify her guns and she'll just beat the shit out of you with her bare hands, just like she was known for doing during her stint in Vacuo's underground fighting rings. She hates Atlas and the Schnee Dust Company for what they did to Vacuo and might be just a little bit of a Qrow Branwen fangirl.
The Arknights version is a Kuranta bounty hunter whose family moved to Columbia early on in the nation's history. She joined the military when she was young and patriotic, but grew disillusioned with military service and left after her third tour of duty, having distinguished herself well enough to have a chest full of medals that always travels in her luggage. She retired to the vast Columbian frontier and busied herself guarding travelers and hunting down criminals trying to hide outside the cities.
Bluebonnet joined Rhodes Island after being hired to guide a team led by Saria through the wilderness to locate a highly-dangerous test subject that had escaped from a Rhine Labs experimental site and offer her sanctuary before either Rhine Labs or the Columbian government could recapture her. She sent in her resume partly because she felt joining Rhodes Island could let her do good on a larger scale and partly because the team she assisted included Saria, Schwarz, and Hellagur and Bluebonnet is very bisexual.
Operator Bluebonnet still fights with revolvers and is one of the few non-Sankta in the setting to show significant aptitude with firearms. She's also skilled at unarmed combat and can frequently be found sparring with the other martial artists in the landship, though she has to be very careful to avoid revealing that sometimes she lets herself get pinned on purpose.
Regardless of setting, Bluebonnet is 5'10", has long, blonde hair, eyes the color of her namesake and a little bit of a tan from spending a lot of time outdoors, and dresses like she just walked off the set of a Western (boots, longcoat, pants, cowboy hat, etc.), except unlike most outfits of this nature, hers includes a titty window (presence of fishnets tbd). Her outfits tend to feature a lot of blue, as befits her name. She's bright, bubbly, and has a Texas-sized heart contained within a Texas-sized chest, and she has to fight to keep herself from falling for any remotely-plausible sob story anyone tries to feed her. She will hug people at the slightest provocation and has gotten punched at least once for ignoring someone's personal space.
Bluebonnet is very friendly and flirty but she's also extremely and tragically single because while she can flirt pretty well, she cannot close to save her life. If it looks like she's about to seal the deal, the universe itself will conspire to prevent her from getting a date. She's frequently hit on and is generally receptive as long as her potential partner isn't throwing up red flags, but she has outright bad luck and things tend to go comically wrong before either she or the person hitting on her actually reach the point of scheduling a date.
Bluebonnet has high INT and decent WIS, but she's somewhat impulsive and sometimes her WIS score will randomly crater. "It seemed like a good idea at the time" is a common Bluebonnet phrase, usually when the medics are patching her up.

'Having appreciated its splendid desert terrain, learned its early history, and protested continued focus on nuclear science on the hostile streets of Los Alamos, the world of Robert Oppenheimer has become a somewhat familiar place for me. The science is a different matter.
Like a number of you readers, I’ve been to see Christopher Nolan’s recent film. I didn’t like his filmmaking style and walked out before the popcorn was gone. Nolan made the Batman series and speaks of enjoying filming in an “operatic style.” The subject suggests something more of a contemplative, documentary approach. More than likely, I was simply exhausted by having had to sit through a full hour of advertising and previews before Nolan’s film appeared on the screen.
Nuclear fission, the process in which an atom is split, releasing an immense amount of energy and making possible production of a weapon of war, was discovered in Germany in December 1938. For starters, all of these scientists knew the 1934 death of researcher Marie Curie was the result of exposure to radioactive matter. The attempt to distort or suppress this information in 1945 gave another dimension to controversy over use of the bomb developed at Los Alamos.
Headed by Werner Heisenberg, Germany had a nuclear weapons program of its own. Albert Einstein knew as much and contacted President Franklin D. Roosevelt to warn him.
German potential posed the possibility they’d be the first country to produce a bomb and would use it to win the war. In Germany, Heisenberg made it clear that building a bomb would require massive industrial commitment. Hitler was more interested in development of rockets. Soviet physicist Georgy Flyorov urged Stalin to consider the bomb, but the urgency of combat limited the Russians to years of only gathering information.
Along with his family a member of New York’s Ethical Culture Society, American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer grew up steeped in a culture of responsibility and social justice. Care for an illness in his youth brought him familiarity with and love for the desert high country of New Mexico. His studies at Harvard, in England, and with major physicists in Germany prepared him for his 1942 appointment to head the government’s weapon physics research and design.
He was appointed director at Los Alamos Laboratory, a secretly developed, totally isolated and inaccessible New Mexico desert site, where he led design and testing of the atom bomb. Assembled and isolated with him were a talented group of men and women who would construct the bomb. In charge of the project and community was General Leslie Groves, an engineer. He hired Oppenheimer in spite of the physicist’s known association with communists.
It must be remembered the economic peril of that period had sent many people searching alternative political systems. Exposed to the failure of the capitalism they had experienced, many saw socialism as an attractive option.
Detonation of the first atomic bomb occurred the morning of July 16, 1945, 210 miles south of Los Alamos on the plains of New Mexico’s Alamogordo Bombing Range. Code name for the test was Trinity. Witness Oppenheimer relates, “We waited until the blast had passed, walked out of the shelter, and then it was entirely solemn. We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent.”
He recited a verse from the Hindu life guide, the Bhagavada Gita, “Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.”
Wrote historian Gar Alperovitz, “It is impossible to catalog, let alone know, the many ways information was quietly suppressed and favorable versions of events promoted after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki … which have contributed to the Hiroshima myth … excessive government secrecy and the routine classification of documents, for instance, obviously contributed to … the suppression of information.”
John Hersey’s brilliant and honest account of what happen at Hiroshima is the one all should read. Completely dismissing President Roosevelt’s war-long success in moderating Stalin’s nature and bringing the Soviet Union into a cooperative mode with the U.S., his successor Harry Truman, along with Winston Churchill, was distrustful and hostile. Together they created of Russia an enemy, and by their actions fashioned the Cold War. Japan invasion plans were many months in the future. Truman chose to impress Stalin with his new weapon.
A heroic figure, Oppenheimer had felt responsibility to apply his knowledge to defend the Allies. What an immense moral burden was put upon him, made all the heavier by his being finally distrusted, betrayed, and reviled.'

ESG Investing in the Specialty Chemicals Industry: A Growing Trend
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) portfolio strategies have become paramount for specialty chemicals manufacturers. An increased emphasis on sustainability could open avenues of organic growth to serve as a foundation for strong financial performance. With specialty chemicals witnessing bullish demand across industry verticals, the challenges and opportunities have become more pronounced pertaining to sustainability, health & safety and governance policies. These trends have made ESG a top priority for boards, venture capitalists, investors and other stakeholders.
Chemical companies are well-positioned to inject funds into sustainability initiatives, including hydrogen production and advanced recycling. Companies have also shown traction for near-zero emissions, net-zero emissions and carbon neutrality by 2050. With chemical companies being held accountable for sourcing raw materials sustainably, investments in bullish ESG practices will gain ground. Moreover, the prevalence of stringent environmental regulation has furthered the prominence of sustainability. For instance, specialty chemicals produced from waste materials, including furfural from biomass and polyols from waste gas could gain ground to recycle waste into products.
Financial and non-financial performances pertaining to ESG have become pronounced. Prominently, specialty chemical companies are gearing up to boost health & safety and environmental stewardship. Corporate players are overcoming challenges on the back of diversity and sound corporate governance. ESG strategies adopted by leading companies are elucidated below:
Environmental Perspective
Global push to minimize emissions, waste management, water management and underpin biodiversity has ramped up investments in the environmental strategy. Specialty chemicals companies grapple with waste, toxicity and pollution, compelling them to face litigation or liabilities. Chemical producers have exhibited increased traction to be in line with the objectives of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
Climate reporting has become pronounced with the growing adoption of TCFD. Furthermore, well-established players have set a bullish target to combat climate change. For instance, Evonik aims to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2025 (compared to the 2008 level). It also vies to minimize scope 3 emissions from the upstream value chain by 15% by 2025 (compared with 2020 base). The Germany-headquartered company has also earmarked sites that would be most affected by water stress in the next two decades. It contemplates 5% reduction of absolute energy consumption and energy consumption relative to production by 2025.
Is your business one of participants to the Specialty Chemicals Industry? Contact us for focused consultation around ESG Investing, and help you build sustainable business practices
Social Perspective
Companies that are working towards the development and well-being of people and emphasize an inclusive working environment are expected to stay ahead of their competitors. A robust ESG practice also demands hiring and engagement practices that complement employee diversity. Nova Chemicals is gearing up to rev up the representation of women across all levels of the organization to 30% by 2030. The Canada-based company is vying for a 10% surge in diversity across all levels and a 5% rise in representation of people of color in leadership by 2030 (from 2020 baseline).
Notably, the development of a strong talent pipeline and emphasis on training can underscore the social pillar. Chemical companies have also shown a bullish approach to safety through the establishment of a safety culture, promotion of safety awareness, interaction and implementation of hazard recognition training and learning policies. For instance, Nova asserts its employees recorded over 57,000 safety interactions while working from home or at the workplace. Safety programs and vision to achieve zero injuries are expected to reinforce the core values of ESG.
Governance Perspective
A company’s corporate behavior, board diversity, anti-competitive practices, transparency and business ethics are the precursor to sound and effective governance. Strong corporate governance practices have become instrumental to underscore the value of the company and ensure efficient use of resources. In essence, the Supervisory Board at BASF has at least 50% members from various professional experiences and educational backgrounds. Furthermore, the company is on course to propel the representation of women in leadership positions to 30% by 2030 with disciplinary responsibility.  It has also furthered its approach to anti-money laundering to foster transparent business relationships. Besides, concerted efforts to protect sensitive information, including Know-how and prevent misuse or unauthorized disclosure have also gained ground across the business vertical.
The integration of sustainability into strategic management and the inclusion of social and environmental aspects in the portfolio will reshape the global landscape. These dynamics are expected to encourage key players to ramp up their ESG efforts. To illustrate, in August 2021, Evonik issued €500 million (USD 543 million) to bolster its sustainability portfolio. It reportedly published Green Finance Framework and is striving to minimize its ecological footprint. Prevailing trends suggest the specialty chemicals market size garnered USD 586.5 billion in 2020 and could witness around 4.3% CAGR from 2021 through 2028. Grand View Research expects promising growth opportunities for companies with an emphasis on sustainability.

The Struggle for Gender Equality in Eastern Europe’s C-Suite Ecosystem
by Emancip8 Project
Tumblr media
Eastern Europe’s C-suite ecosystem is grappling with the persistent issue of gender inequality. Despite progress in recent years, women remain underrepresented in top management positions. This article delves into the challenges faced by women in Eastern Europe’s C-suite, exploring cultural barriers, gender bias, work-life balance, and representation in leadership.
Cultural barriers pose significant obstacles for women aspiring to C-suite positions in Eastern Europe (Elomäki et al., 2020). Societal expectations often dictate that women prioritize caregiving and familial roles, impeding their career progression. By promoting work-life balance and supporting women’s professional ambitions, organizations can help dismantle these barriers.
Gender bias within the corporate world continues to undermine women’s access to leadership positions in Eastern Europe (Terjesen et al., 2009). Unconscious biases can hinder women’s career advancement by influencing hiring, promotion, and development opportunities. To combat these biases, organizations must implement training and mentorship programs designed to foster diversity and inclusion.
Work-life balance is a critical challenge for women in Eastern Europe’s C-suite, as many struggles to juggle professional responsibilities with personal commitments (Greenhaus & Allen, 2011). Organizations can support women by offering flexible working arrangements, on-site childcare, and other family-friendly policies.
Representation in leadership is essential to achieving gender equality in Eastern Europe’s corporate landscape (Carter & Silva, 2010). However, women continue to be underrepresented in C-suite positions in the region. By setting diversity targets and implementing affirmative action policies, companies can work toward a more balanced leadership.
In conclusion, the struggle for gender equality in Eastern Europe’s C-suite ecosystem is multifaceted, requiring concerted efforts from organizations, policymakers, and society as a whole. By addressing cultural barriers, combating gender bias, promoting work-life balance, and increasing representation in leadership, the region can work toward a more inclusive and equitable corporate environment.

Short Reign of Bathory the II:
If you tell people that they can go around murdering these specific humans with no consequence because They Aren’t People in the Same Way We Are, eventually they’ll start thinking Well Why Are You Perfectly Edible Able-Bodied White People Off Limits. Why Don’t We Just Treat Your Whole Species Like You Treat Your Most Hated Members? Hmm?
The Bathory Coven, or rather the Glaswire and Georgia State Coven (Elizabeth Bathory was a human y’all. She was a horrible person who murdered at least 80 people but she was human.) started buying up large acres of land in Southwest Georgia, and eventually consolidated it all and declared it as their estate (this wasn’t sus due to reasons I’ll hopefully bring up later). They then began hiring laborers and three (vampiric) architects to build the not-yet-singular coven a giant stone mansion that was really more of a castle but whatever.
None of the laborers knew what exactly they were building, but some of them (only the human ones) started to go missing. Most of the construction workers slept on-site since home was so far away, and as the mansion came closer to completion, people started to go missing at night.
Only the giant deadlock (that only a very well fed vampire could ever hope to lift on their own) was left undone when one of the handymen went somewhere they weren’t supposed be and saw something they weren’t supposed to see. Anyway all the hired laborers stole shit and ran all the way back to town. The deadlock was never finished
No one believed them. The Bathory Coven was very good at selecting humans that wouldn’t be missed.
Anyway the Bathory coven started funding a little town on the edge of their property around 40 years later (long enough that everyone who wasn’t human forgot). It was a really good town, too. All of the landlords were vampires but no one knew that. It kept being a nice little town for like 4 years until one day everyone went missing. No bodies.
The authorities did a little math in their death records and figured out that every maid, butler, cook, and other domestic servant that had been hired to the join Glaswire-Georgia Estate had gone missing. No one had looked into it because of who those people were. Poor and desperate. And it was like, a ridiculous amount of workers to serve what was like 23 people. Like 200.
Then the two covens formally joined, declared themselves the Bathory Coven, tried to to secede and create a “Vampire Kingdom”, and issued a formal call for other vampires to join them.
Fortunately, most other vampires weren’t very gung-ho about murdering beings of equal intelligence and capacity to experience the world, and the ones who were thought that openly declaring yourselves as a threat was the dumbest possible thing you could do. But there were some vampires interested enough that the Bathory’s numbers raised to 40.
So pretty much the entire human population of Georgia evacuated, and those who couldn’t afford to disappeared into the mansion.
The U.S government was kind of at a loss of what to do, since the Bathory Coven definitely had hostages in there and were doing god knows what to them, but like. How do you fight beings that have sealed themselves off from their only natural weakness? How do you best something that’s been training in combat for longer than any of your soldiers have been alive? The mansion was a maze that took hours to travel through, and the moment the sun set the vampires would tear them apart. It was pitch black in there; no windows or lighting.
Plus they were all really strong from drinking what amounted to a full human a day.
In the end, they all either left (dissatisfied with the fact that their numbers weren’t growing for some reason), died (the vampiric architects turned on the TV for once and told the army how to get through the maze) or starved (their systems were used to a gallon a day and they went from that to drinking nothing). Thank god for vampiric metabolism amiright.
On the bright side, civil rights and bodily autonomy got accepted way quicker because the Bathory vampires would send out a human every six months (usually with bite marks taken out of them, usually malnourished and anemic, sometimes pregnant) to tell the world about what was happening in there (in an intimidating “this will be you one day” way) and Holy Shit You Cannot Treat People Like Cattle Get That Bullshit Outta Here Right Fucking Now Before I Start Having Heart Palpitations. You Know What Everyone Is A Person Now And No One Should Ever Be Made To Give Birth To Or Raise A Child Who Doesn’t Want To Bodily Autonomy For Everyone Now Let Me Go To Therapy
Bloodlettings:
AKA the upper class realized that vampires could hurt them too! Didn’t realize they could bite my face off when I voted for the Bite People’s Face Off Party, et cetera Human Paranoia at its Best
So after the living nightmare that was the Kingdom of Bathory, pretty much all the nations started side eyeing their vampiric citizens and upping the restrictions on vampire behavior when they used to support relaxing them (not because they cared about vampires but so they could “clean out the streets”). It got to the point where full vampires had to wear tracking bracelets in some countries. Suspicions on vampire behavior rose and rose until one day some vampire in Wales was accused of ‘bewitching’ a local child into running away from home (vampires do a lot of shit scientists don’t understand yet but they cannot ‘betwitch’ people). The vampire was staked in the heart by a mob and left to bleed out in a town square.
This behavior continued, since there was a string of serial killings going across Britain and vampires were often blamed and killed for it. Until the murder was caught. She was a human.
Essempi was fully established a few years after on a relatively new (200 yrs old) island the size of England situation in the Northern Atlantic Ocean that popped up after a underwater volcano blew. It was meant to be an English Colony, but it gained greater independence during the whole vampire murder schism and no one cared enough to try and reign it back in. It’s current exports are aircraft, communications technology, and wheat.
Now that I’ve gotten over all the doom and gloom and horror, would you like to hear about vampire cultures?
THERE'S MORE?!! ABSOLUTELY YES I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR IT!!!!!!
all of these asks have been wonderful to read. i am absolutely obsessed with the way you write and the way your brain works it is so fascinating to me. like, how the hell did you manage to take my silly little block people fanfiction and turn it into the one of the best pieces of writing i've ever read? i shall forever be amazed by this.
if you desire, i highly encourage you to create a story based off of this. the world you've created is so well thought-out and i can only imagine the kinds of tales you have to tell within it.
but yes, all the doom and gloom aside, i would absolutely love to hear about vampire culture.
