Songs that remind me of aph Mongolia/some aph Mongolia ships? (I'm sorry a few of these are English goth rock bands I can't help that I'm an edgelord)
Cities in dust - Siouxsie and the banshees. God I love this song. Its originally about Pompeii but I can see the lyrics relating to him and his past.
Something Wrong - Clan of Xymox. I can see this song being from from his POV towards another nation, idk if I should disclose what nation though as I don't want to come off insensitive but I do have my reasoning behind it. If you really want to know you can PM me! It's quite a bitter/angry song.
Driven like the snow - Sisters of Mercy. This song is super serious and idk why, I feel like that song would be his vibe during the cold war era?
Same deep water as you - The Cure. The lyrics are quite sad and the whole sound is sad. Again I can see this song being from his POV towards another nation/nation being thing. It's actually more than one nation. I'm not going to elaborate on why but the nations being: Tibet, N Korea, Inner Mongolia? I'm not sure if I personally headcanon inner Mongolia being a nation-being-thing yet. Must educate myself more.. I think I lean more towards yes though.
I have slept with all the girls in Berlin - Sisters of Mercy. Yeah I headcanon during his empire era he was kind of a manwhore so this is self explanatory. Of course he didn't sleep with girls from Berlin but you know there was a lot of people who entertained him (of all genders).
Nevernaya zhena - Fleur. This is a Russian song and for some reason its hard to find these days?? The song is about an unfaithful wife but the lyrics are like. The embodiment of a complicated, painful, toxic and secretive relationship. Unfortunately Monchu is a guilty pleasure of mine (sorry y'all) and yeah any toxic song I can come across like this reminds me of them.
Someone to spend time with - Los retros. Umm this is my tibmongol or Tibet x Mongolia song!! Just a sweet song about missing each other and wanting to spend more time together :)
She sells sanctuary - The cult. I don't know why but for some reason this song reminds me of like the Turkey x Mongolia ship. Maybe because the song just sounds so like happy and carefree and idk kind of like the shared history they had together when they were younger.
There are a lot of Mongolian songs I like but unfortunately I cannot find the English lyrics for all of them. I'm listing some of these off of the vibes they give me. Some modern, some traditional.
Novshroo - Starfish. Sounds like a chill af song makes me think of him just laying down in the steppe somewhere as the sun sets.
A sound - unexpected answer. Again, cannot find the English lyrics :( but its such a nice soft song, def another chill song for him.
LSB - Starfish. Can't find English lyrics :( but yes some nice chill and laidback songs after all of the edgy goth rock I've subjected you all to.
Tsaag agaar - The lemons. Very upbeat song!! This is a summer song for him :3
Altargana - Khusugtun. This song is very beautiful and an altargana is a steppe flower that survives very harsh conditions. Reminds me of his resilience? Also yes I am aware that this is a buryat song. I'm not sure if I characterise aph Mongolia as representing only the Khalkha majority and there are other personifications of different Mongol groups, or if he remains representing the Khalkha majority and a little bit of the different Mongolic ethnic groups? I've read a lot of things from Khalkhas and Buryats/different Mongol ethnic groups online so I'm not too sure... Should educate myself more on this topic..
Govi Nutag - Domog. Based. That's all I have to say.
Khoyor Ntugiin Erkh - Khusugtun. This song is mainly instruments/the morin khuur but wowow its so beautiful. There is part of the song with throat singing though!! It starts from 3:30 minutes and holy shit the sygyt is phenomenal!

Hot take about APH China Yao Wang
As a Chinese person, I tend to dislike it when I see attempts to make APH China more “traditionally” masculine than his canon counterpart, or make him basically a Chinese grandpa/CCP chairman, especially when such attempts come from outsiders and this change is shown as an “improvement.” There’s plenty to say on the feminization of East Asian men in popular media, and many fandom depictions of Yao and the other East Asians certainly fall into these tropes. However, masculinizing China feels like an reaction often borne out of femmephobia and can also put down those who use a gender non-conforming China to explore the fluid nature of gender and presentation throughout Chinese culture and history.
On the other hand, I do also find it problematic when people overcorrect this trend by uncritically and whole heartedly embracing Himaryu’s version of the character. China’s depiction in the Hetalia series is very reflective of a Japanese man’s views in the late 2000s to early 2010s, and it fits into a long trend of Japanese fetishization of Chinese women and exoticization of Chinese culture. Chinese people can and do reclaim China’s androgyny and gender nonconformity for themselves, and at least for me, it’s a very important part of how I see and portray him. But I think it’s important for everybody to keep in mind of this cultural context, especially if you’re an outsider.
Embrace Wang Yao’s gender nonconformity, I know for a fact mainlanders love their malewife China and who am I to deny them one of the most exquisite pleasures in life? But if you’re an outsider, you should be careful of the surrounding context and how Chinese people have been depicted and stereotyped in foreign media as someone looking in.
tl;dr consume critically and outside of a western-centric geopolitical viewpoint

My opinion on APH India (as an Indian myself)
I do not like APH India for 2 main reasons.
*TW* Sexual Assult
1. There should be multiple Indias the same way there is multiple Italys. There is a HUGE difference between North, South and Northeast India. The languages are different, the food is different and the people look different. North Indians tend to have lighter skin, South Indians tend to have darker skin and Northeast Indians tend to look like East Asians
2. India should HATE England, I’ve heard my family’s stories from the days when India was still apart of of The British Empire and it’s absolutely horrifying what the British did to our people. During the Partition of India my Great-Grandparents, who were only 12-14 years old, were forced to flee their homes, my Great Grandmother and her sisters had to hide in crates so that they wouldn’t be raped. Many people were murdered and British Soldiers and Journalists say that the Partition's brutalities were worse than the brutalities in Nazi Death camps.
Inconclusion, APH India is a terrible representation of India and it’s history. Then again it’s Hetalia which isn’t meant to be historically or culturally accurate.

About this blog & About me
My main blog is @sometimecatsometimenot
If there’s something about me that you don’t like or can’t stand with, please do not interact with me and please BLOCK me immediately
For Anyone who feel OK with me : WELCOME TO MY BLOG! I GIVE YOU HEART 💕 I GIVE YOU HUG! I APPRECIATE YOUR EVERY NICE INTERACT, AND YOUR EVERY LOVELY NOTE ON MY POSTS, AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK!! 💕💕✨☺️
I made this blog solely for Hetalia TurGre (aph/hwsTürkiye x aph/hwsGreece) “darker” historical related headcanons and arts.
Please BLOCK, or at least avoid interacting with this blog if you don’t like the ship and its contents.
Although there will be no obvious NSFW stuff here, this blog may contain contents with : Violence, mention about wars, things I cannot figure out yet but they’re definitely not suitable for kids.
So I will give this blog 18+ and minors please refrain from interact.
I have been posting TurGre headcanons and arts in my main blog @sometimecatsometimenot which mostly depicted the ship in their delight side. However, as someone who like historical Hetalia and usually read history, I feel that only the delight side cannot complete the whole picture of their relationship, because the truth is this two guys have one of the most complicate relationship of the entire world, and the most of the relationship aren’t that delight. That is the reason why I make another blog for putting headcanons and arts that depict the gloomier and darker side of their story.
—-
For history and other information, I only rely on English sources because it is the only language I can understand beside my mother tongue. Although I also read the source from both sides (which many times have different viewpoint/ description for the same event) they are also English sources, which may give less or different detail from the sources written by local languages.
✨However, for my arts and headcanons, they will be written/depicted with a mixed of the knowledge I got from the sources and my own fangirling dramatic bollywoo’dism emotional bittersweet fantasy interpretation, so please keep in mind that it will never be an accurate historical interpretation here. Some of my interpretation will be much different from Hetalia canon and many other headcanons. However, I am also inspired by many fanfics which I keep the concept and theory that I felt right from them in my mind.

Other favorite ships : Ranneshi (hwsNetherland x hwsIndonesia), Gerita, GerPru, Spamano, USUK (Supposed to say hwsAmerica x hwsEngland), Dennor, RusSme or Amerus, SpaPort or PortSpa
I like to define my ships by Japanese style definition : fixing Top (left) x bottom (right), and I rarely reverse characters’ position of my favorite ships. However, I have no NOTP, and I do not hate any ship.
I do not hate any Hetalia characters.
I rarely make WFSN art/fic of Hetalia, and if I happen to make one, I won’t post it here. However, I have no problem with seeing or reading WFSN art/fic at all.

I think there should be content of South Korea and Japan regularly calling China in the spring to complain about his stupid sandstorms spreading to their houses. China just goes “¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if you want it to stop so badly, why don’t you come over and help”
Yong Soo and Kiku should really just get a better neighbor

Were the Mongols really that stinky?
Me trying to summarise/simplify notes I've found on the Internet. But also this is me trying to defend Mongolia ‼️😔✋🐴
(Editing this to re-work the Yassa and Mamluk part as the source I have used to explain it was most likely biased. )
The hygiene practices of the Mongols have been documented by the Mongols and foreigners alike. Apparently, according to some historical resources, the Mongols smelled so bad that you could actually smell them incoming, and that during battle, their stench actually helped them. This seems like a ridiculous exaggeration to be honest, and probably was written by people who were subjected by the Mongols and therefore were very butthurt. All soldiers on a campaign, no matter where they're from, can smell pretty bad.
It is said that the Mongols would not bathe, in fear of angering the water dragons which controlled the waters. This was recorded by the 15th century Mamluk Historian al-Maqrizi. It is true that the Mongols were a shamanistic people, however the mention of dragons is peculiar. The appearance of dragons in original Turco-mongol mythology is almost absent, and dragons are more used in Chinese and tibetan mythology.
In addition, do we really know if the whole "not bathing in running water" thing was truly what was happening with the Mongols, or was it another mistranslation after centuries and centuries of copying things and translating things? François Pétis de la Croix, a French historian of the 18th century, had access to Al-Maqrizi's original work. François came to a different conclusion to his findings - that bathing in running water was banned only during thunderstorms. Both because it was dangerous and also to show respect to Tengri.
Then, in the 20th century, George Vernadsky, who was a Russian-American historian, came to agree with François Pétis de la Croix's conclusion. He agreed that this law was not as restrictive as we may have originally believed. Further, let's remember that they were "banned" from using "running water". Surely that means they could have collected water in jugs and used that or something?
There is also issues with Al-Maqrizi's original source - he is not really regarded as a reliable one. His information on the Yassa was apparently given to him by a man called Abu-Hashim, who claimed that he saw the whole of the Yassa in the libraries of Baghdad during his political exile.
Abu-Hashim is an obscure historical figure and little is known about him and his works, if he even had any.
What Al-Maqrizi thought to be the Yassa was actually just a small list of punishment for offences from the Mongol Criminal law.
Al-Maqrizi also fails to admit that he borrowed pretty heavily from the scholar Ibn Fadl Allah al-Umar in his works on the Mongols. Ibn Fadl Allah al-Umar based his works off of Ata-Malik Juvayni, who was a respected official in the Ilkhanate. Further, Ata-Malik Juvayni wrote the book "History of the world conquerer". This was probably the most unbiased account of the Mongol conquests of Chinggis Khan at the time.
Considering this, you may think. Oh! So it was kind of based off of a reputable source. Must be legit then. But no, Al-Maqrizi, as we can further see in this post, omitted many things from the works he was influenced by, because he had a pretty sour bias against the Mongols.
Juvayni, in his work, records how bathing was banned during certain times of the day during spring and summer months, during which thunderstorms were common. Al-Maqrizi makes no mention of this.
It could be argued that Juvayni himself was biased in trying to make the Mongols look good. Some argue that this "bathing in midday was banned" fiasco was written in by Juvayni to demonstrate the mercy of Chagatai Khan when he pardoned a poor Muslim who was caught bathing in midday. But honestly that seems like a weird thing for Juvayni to lie about, even if it was to make Chagatai look good, so I agree with the original conclusion.
Let's also not forget that Al-Maqrizi lived during the time of the Egyptian Mamluks in 1364-1442. He definitely had a sour opinion of the Mongols, especially the Golden Horde and Ilkhanate, who were the products of the brutal conquest of Muslim-majority states.
It is rumoured that the some of the Yassa codes may have been used to administer affairs in with the Mamluks, however accounts of this are greatly exaggerated. However the Muslim Mamluks certainly knew of the Yassa and were very cautious and critical of it.
Al-Maqrizi, during this time, was very adamant and vocal about the Yassa being satanic, hmm I wonder why (hint: he had a sour opinion of the Mongols).
Considering all of this, can we truly believe what Al-Maqrizi said about the Mongols hygiene practices? Even other historians at the time had this strong bias against the Mongols, and we should really be taking what they say with a pinch of salt (probably like. 100kg of salt tbh)
In addition, I've seen a Mongolian answer this question online, and they said that in those times, Mongolias used ointments of animal origin to rub dirt off of the skin - similar to the inuits. Let's also remember that "running" water was not allowed to be used, and not allowed during thunderstorms. Running water was more often seen in nature settings for the Mongols in those times, and the fact that you weren't allowed to use running water during thunderstorms? Yeah honestly to me that just seems like respecting nature/Tengri and avoiding danger if anything.
So basically. They probably didn't smell that much worse than anyone else during the time!
DEFENDING MONGOLIA‼️ LEAVE HIM ALONE

Intuition
For day two of @aphyuriweek2019, I chose the theme of “culture” and the pairing is nyo!HongIce. This is honestly short enough to count as a drabble, which is quite a contrast from my last entry.
No measuring cups, no measuring spoons, no nothing. Sula closes the cupboard door and hops off the stepstool, turning to Leonor. “Where do you keep your measuring tools?”
Leonor taps her spoon against the edge of the bowl. “Pardon?”
“The measuring tools,” Sula repeats, “you know, the measuring cups and stuff?”
She grabs the metal claw and lowers the dish into the steamer. “We don’t have those.”
“What?” Sula stares at Leonor. “But how do you cook without them? I remember that one time when Linn misplaced her electric scale and couldn’t make anything! Doesn’t that happen to you guys?”
Rolling her eyes, Leonor scoops up a cupful of rice and gestures to the rice cooker. “Observe.” She pours the rice in, turning to the sink to pour water in as well, then placing her hand palm-down on top of the rice. “I’m going to pour the water in until my hand is fully submerged, and that’s how much water we’ll need to cook the rice.” Leonor takes her hand out, shakes it dry and slams the rice cooker shut. “There. No measuring tools needed.”
“But…” Sula watches as her girlfriend punches buttons on the rice cooker. “You’ll get the water dirty, and everyone’s hands are different.”
“I - whatever.” Leonor opens the steamer cover and is momentarily hidden by a cloud of steam. “That trick’s worked ever since rice cookers were invented, probably, we’ve never gone wrong with it.”
Sula gestures incoherently at Leonor, nonchalantly pouring light soy sauce over the dish of steamed eggs. “But what about sauces, or bread, or desserts? You have to get the measurements correct for those or things will turn out terrible!”
Leonor shrugs. “I don’t know, Kiku eyeballs the slurry when she makes gyoza and Yao’s herbal jelly always turn out amazing.”
“She eyeballs the slurry!?” She waves her arms around. “But without the most precise base, your dish could end up a lumpy mess!”
“You Westerners rely on measurements too much.” Leonor reaches out one hand and hovers it over Sula’s chest, right where her heart should be. “Just use your gut feeling. Feel it in your heart.”
“Don’t be so sappy, I’ll use my magic Spidey Sense to measure food from now on, okay?” She smiles, kisses Leonor’s fingertips and goes to check on the rice.
...
A/N: In Chinese and occasionally Japanese home cooking, precise measurements are rarely used. The palm trick for cooking rice is sometimes replaced by the finger trick, which I never learned but is probably just as helpful.
