How Can You Help Your Favourite Online Asian Grocery Store Grow
Tumblr media
Everybody in the world is now having and making dishes from various international cuisines. The frequency of a person abroad having Asian dishes has increased manifold especially after the opening of various multi-cuisine restaurants and grocery stores. These restaurants and grocery stores not only promote the sales of Asian groceries but also encourage people to expand their horizons when it comes to food. Unlike earlier people nowadays are more open to trying new cuisines and dishes not only at restaurants but also at home. Asian cuisine has become one of the most popular dinner or party themes worldwide.
The online grocery shopping concept lept into our lives as soon as the pandemic hit the world. Even though lockdowns were lifted it was still unsafe to move out and everyday tasks like grocery shopping were life threatening. In just an instance the world shifted from basic local store shopping to the model of shopping for groceries online. This also gave birth to the concepts of multi cuisine stores like Germany’s best online Asian shop, Spice Village. These stores then brought about a change in the customer shopping pattern and experience altogether. Online shopping is more convenient and with the right store, the best way to purchase your favourite groceries, brands and products regularly.
There are various multi cuisine stores and shops all over the world. One can easily find multiple Asian supermarkets in the USA, UK, Germany and all other major countries and states that are home to Indian and Asian immigrants. Every year there is an increase in the number of students and work aspirants moving from their hometowns in Asia and India to parts of Germany. Superstores like Spice Village help these immigrants feel at home with authentic brands and products from their homeland. This not only helps them settle in a foreign country quickly and more easily but also helps others there to experience the flavours and aroma of various Asian countries.
Being an Asian store in Germany is a tough and complicated task. Your growth as an international supermarket entirely depends on the experience of your customers at your online store, the products they purchase and if they are a first timer would they like the cuisine or not. As a supermarket like Spice Village, the staff puts in a lot of effort to make the experience of every customer the best and satisfactory. The sole duty of the staff members of an online store is providing a good, hygienic and convenient experience to the customer. To do the same, employees of an online store take care of the website as it should be well segregated and user friendly, ensure the correct information is provided to the customer, pack their order correctly and hygienically and ensure that the products reach them in due time and safely.
The relationship of an online store like Spice Village and its customers is a two way thing. The customers need to help and support the online stores for them to be able to continue providing quality products at a reasonable price. Asian shops in Berlin like Spice Village provide a wide range of premium quality ingredients, groceries, brands and their products from India and Asia at very cheap prices loaded with deals and discounts. Spice Village is a store that offers discounts, free shipping in Europe as well as same day delivery on Tuesday and Friday only in Berlin. Although the variety of products and brands of ingredients and groceries available at Spice Village is the best thing about this online store in Germany.
As a customer one can do a lot more than just purchasing from online Asian grocery stores. The frequency of people making Asian food at their home is still less because either they can't find good ingredients and groceries or the stores selling the groceries they need are very costly. As a loyal customer of online Asian grocery store here are a few things you can do to support your favourite store and help it grow:
1.      Expose guests and closed ones to Asian cuisine more often. Try and incorporate more of Asian dishes like snacks, beverages, etc in your everyday meals and parties.
2.      Leave honest reviews and comments on the store's website. Google reviews also play a very important role. So be honest and let other customers read about your experience.
3.      Check out the website of the store even if you don't want to purchase. Every time you open the website and scroll around its ranking increases on google which will make your favourite store more visible on the internet.
4.      Interact with them on their social media platforms. This helps them increase their reach on social media platforms and help other customers trust the website and store better.
Spread using word of mouth. There is no better marketing tool than this one. If you really want your favourite online Asian store to grow, talk about it to as many people as you can.

Best Fragrantica reviews of (some of) my favorite perfumes, Part II
First installment here
Maison Martin Margiela By the Fireplace
Careful not to be worn by this perfume instead of being you the wearer. Not that it is oh so powerful, but it may be too bold of a statement piece for, ahem, some. Wearing BTF when you don't look the part and don't give it sense will have you smelling borderline unhealthy. Like your organs inside have worn off and darkened (and burned out, I guess). Truly as weird as it sounds. The raw thing smells very exciting. I love it ashy. I don't see myself daring any soon, however. And I don't find that it worked for the men I know either, as they have (and I cringe to say) whiter auras and don't fit the "handling cognac by the fire" thing. So I've yet to see it really work, which I'm sure will be great. It's a lovely perfume.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Bewitched
This is the smell of a witch's brew. She made a special tea for you to drink. You pass out. When you awaken you find yourself in her garden full of poisonous berries, patchouli, weeds, clary sage, and flowers whose petals have been plucked. This is an herbal scent, like walking inside a shop selling only herbs. It's medicinal and like a tea. Not always easy to take in...The smell of sage and musk give it a unisex/masculine quality. I would say that it's more of a guy's type of cologne than a woman's. I would wear it for Halloween with a witch costume or as Morticia Addams. It's really a very engaging scent but it's linear and simple. It's a little green tea and berry. It's got a bite but it's witchy and dark, but not a strong cologne either. For a niche indie frag, not bad.
TokyoMilk Gin & Rosewater
I was in a boutique that carries the Tokyo Milk Curiosite & Bon Bon lines, and I was entranced by this. Florals are not usually my thing, by the way, because I get monster headaches from most of them. Suddenly the salesgirl is RIGHT NEXT TO ME leaning in conspiratorially and says in an awed tone that 'Blake Lively LOVES this one'. OMFG, Blake Lively, you say??!? Like for serious, the real Blake Lively?? OMFG, do you have like, more in the back?!? I'm totally going to buy every bottle you can shove in my basket because BLAKE LIVELY would hang out with me if we ran into each other and then my life could end. Um, not. I almost DIDN'T buy it because of the salesgirls then going into a tizzy about how amazing Blake is. I could not care less, although I'm sure Lively is nice enough. But it did smell cool, so home with me it came, along with the matching lotion.
Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin
It’s an overwhelming fragrance that smells like the bottom of my grandma’s small square leather purse when we went to mass (her old dried up lipstick💄 the powder compact, the newspaper, the pack of strawberry-ish scented kleenex, the peppermints). It’s vintage, it’s a bit suffocating and I have it printed in my memory 4 ever.
Juliette Has a Gun Magnolia Bliss
Anastasia Steele, no longer a virgin. In her Audi A3, the smell of her new car, first edition books and a new life... That's what comes into mind with this perfume. The night Christian took her for the first time on his helicopter. I can imagine this is exactly what she smelled like that night. With Ellie Goulding's Love me like you do playing in the background.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540
I’m too embarrassed and ashamed to wear this in public just in case a fragrantica influencer comes out of a bush and starts pointing & laughing at me in front of everyone
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
what all the hot daddies in every lana del rey song smell like
Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud
If your family was religious, traditionally Asian, or both, you'll know this scent. This is the scent of a temple. This is the scent of an altar. Personally I can never wear this because smelling this brings back so many memories of burning incenses, visiting funerals, and saying prayers and wishes. My bottle is literally sitting on an altar.
Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose
Speaking of the devil. This scent is the one with the Prada's shoes.
4160 Tuesdays Doe in the Snow
This is borne on a Christmas Eve, under the moonlight, a baby fawn just out of it's mother's womb. The moon is full light casting blue shadows snow lightly falling delicate flakes each one unique on the nose of the new born... Pure fresh Christmas morning air stillness not a sound blanketed with drifts of snow that is Doe In The Snow... pure white innocence...velvet petals so delicate under the driven snow...I have seen this in a dream... Another love... I get it...

June felt like a really good reading month, though my Storygraph stats say I’m pretty much even on book count and seriously down on page count. Maybe it’s because I read some really good books and managed to finish three books over the last four days? Or because I managed to read “The Angel of Khan el-Khalili” by P. Djèlí Clark and a Seanan McGuire novella on top of everything*? Or because I’m really liking the history book I’ve just started so am ending the month on a high? I’ll go with a mix of those, I think.
*which I’m not counting here because neither was a physical book
I managed two books off my physical TBR this month—Stardust Thief, Rat Queens—and I only acquired one book, as long as you don’t count reading copies! We got remaindered copies of The Bookstore Cat this month and I couldn’t resist. He’s seriously the best cat and I love him. My ARC pile, on the other hand, is up by 5 books….
And now, my total books read in order of how glad I am to have read them:
Katzenjammer - Francesca Zappia Cat’s trapped in high school, her eyes have disappeared, her classmates are mutating and dying in the halls, and she doesn’t remember how any of this happened. - 🏳️‍🌈 secondary characters - warning: body horror, gore, blood, murder, bullying
Rosebud - Paul Cornell Five AI discover a strange ship. The Company wouldn’t want them to investigate, except maybe if they go anyway, they will be Heroes. Douglas Adams, but angry. - 🏳️‍🌈 secondary characters - warning: in-universe transphobia
Shadows of Berlin - David R. Gillham A woman in New York is torn between honouring her heritage and her dead, being a good 1950s housewife to escape her past, and being true to herself. - Jewish cast, mentally ill main character, Black secondary character - warning: the Holocaust, PTSD, child neglect and abuse, misogyny
Trailed - Kathryn Miles In 1995, a sapphic couple were brutally killed in a national park. Now a journalist does a deep dive into the investigation to understand where it went wrong. - 🏳️‍🌈 subjects - warning: murder, violence against women, dead queer women
Minique - Anna Maxymiw A girl in colonial Montreal witnesses the world around her and decides to pursue an independent life no matter what. - 🇨🇦 - warning: misogyny, sexual assault, rape
Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake - Alexis Hall Rosaline hopes to win on Bake Expectations and fix her life. Unfortunately, the first co-contestant she meets, she lies to about everything. But that’ll be okay, right? - 🏳️‍🌈 protagonist, South Asian secondary character, 🏳️‍🌈 author - warning: sexual assault
Elder Race - Adrian Tchaikovsky A princess seeks a wizard’s help in defeating a demon. The wizard is an isolated anthropologist who’s only meant to observe the locals—but he goes on the quest anyway.
Legends & Lattes - Travis Baldree Viv has retired from adventuring to start a coffee shop, but she can’t (and doesn’t want to) do it alone. - 🏳️‍🌈 protagonist, 🏳️‍🌈 secondary character
The Stardust Thief - Chelsea Abdullah A dealer in illegal magical artifacts is blackmailed into a search for a lamp containing a djinn king. Nobody travelling with her is quite who they seem, and neither is the mission. - Arab cast, Arab author, #ownvoices
The Monsters We Defy - Leslye Penelope A woman who can speak to ghosts gathers a crew to steal a ring. If they don’t, they’ll neither save the poorest people in 1920s DC, or themselves. - Black cast, 🏳️‍🌈 secondary character, albino secondary character, Black author, #ownvoices
The Collected Poetry of Dorothy Parker - Dorothy Parker Surprisingly relatable 100-year-old poetry. - warning: suicidal ideation

Top 5 beverages!
Turkish coffee, but as a pour over
A controversial opinion, I know, but hear me out: I find traditionally brewed Turkish coffee a little too strong and bitter for my tastes, but I absolutely love buying ground Turkish coffee (without cardamon, another controversial opinion, forgive me) from the Asian grocery store and making it into a pour over at home. The result is a much milder version that still retains the spicy flavors of the coffee, but with none of the bitterness, and it goes down very smoothly with a dash of milk. Plus, no coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup to deal with once you are done, since it’s all been filtered out!
Italian Hot Chocolate
Let me set the scene for you: it was an afternoon in late December, between Christmas and New Years. My traveling companion, an archaeologist, had enthusiastically dragged me away from the shopping district that I was quite happy to find myself in and set us out on a long trek to some obscure church so she could show me a mural that I “simply have to see”. We arrive at the old church and learn that the final entry of the day was 20 minutes ago. Deflated, cold, and hungry, we walked through the streets of Milan, heading back to the neighborhood our hotel was in to look for dinner. It was getting dark, and it started to rain. We turned a street corner and saw a dazzling sight: a beautiful cafe with a white storefront, lights glowing from its large windows illuminating the marble tables within. As we pushed in the heavy doors, we were greeted by the smell of hot chocolate, and the menu above the white marble counter confirmed our senses: this was a chocolate bar, offering a dozen different flavors of Italian hot chocolate. I ordered one with dark chocolate, hazelnut, and whipped cream. A few minutes later, it arrived on my table. It was heaven in a cup. A very small glass cup (only a third of the normal serving size typical here in America) in which one could see thick black-brown liquid chocolate, topped with rich whipped cream (a little over-whipped, on the buttery side, which is exactly how I like it), and crushed hazelnut drizzle. It was glorious. I bit into the whipped cream, sucked in the hot chocolate in one big slurp, felt the thick lava-like liquid roll down my throat, and relished in the warmth that spread as it passed through my chest. It was much more bitter than American hot chocolates, and richer in flavor, with a nutty almost caramel-like aftertaste. This was the first time in my life where I wished I could stick my tongue into a cup and lick the inside clean.
Hot Apple Cider with whipped cream and cinnamon
This one is a winter classic in Germany. I first had it in Berlin on a bright sunny day in a cafe attached to a beautiful cemetery that I’d scrolled through that morning. It was the first time I had whipped cream with apple cider, and it made the entire thing feel extremely indulgent and i think it helped bring out the natural sweet-sour taste of the apples, add in the cinnamon and you have liquid apple pie in a cup 🤤
Riesling
IT IS THE BEST WHITE WINE (although Retsina is a close second). And the brands that are usually available at my local store in the states suck 😭😭😭. A good Riesling should be slightly sour, slightly sweet (the bad ones are usually too sweet), and dry. Riesling is the perfect summer drink, good for picnics in the sun, or dinner out on the balcony, with seafood, arugula / rucola, and white asparagus (with ham and hollandaise sauce, of course)
Japanese-Style Whisky Highball
Ice, whisky, and soda water (and maybe a dash of lemon to change it up). It tastes fantastic. Perfect for every season. Easy to make at home, great to order in restaurants and bars. It’s especially great with yakiniku or any kind of barbecue / grilled meat dish. I also tried a Shochu version of this in a canned bottle from 7-11 in Japan.

so here we are
in the words of bloc party sans 2009. So here we are, now. The world's most locked down city, still trying to keep itself abreast post a refugee status declaration.
A city that once prided itself on 7 days a week clubbing experiences, fresh food made daily and wonderful coffee, at any time of the day. Has sadly, a long way to go before completely being able to say it is truly back on its feet.
It runs in grids quite similar to crosses. But some of us often find ourselves slanting through its crowds and it's red lights to promptly get ourselves to where we need to be. The rest are just spending all their time.money, making moves in a city that is vastly split. Thanks to the Yarra.
So are you slanting or spending?
I've dissected some of the best eats, coolest Asian stores, nail and beauty spots and now feel like the tip is far too full and probably needs some recycling. We may be the smallest state, but we manage to make space.
It feels like a dissertation but it may also prove to be a vent. For all those clogged gases unable to seep back into Australia's cleanest treated tap water.
A clap back to Australia's original capital, the birthplace of AFL and some of Australia's crankiest. Eureka! They said after they knocked out the other guys teeth for stealing someone else's gold, straight outta the quarry.
Basically somewhat of an illustration as to how to dig deeper unlike a dog or wombat. Just a furious miner equipped with a shovel trying to figure out how to get rid of that weird stench out of all these holes. The same ones that cling to our dirty pores after a long couple of days partying around people, whose names we forget but whose jokes, we repeat.
Then claim as our own.
An ode to everyone's once refugee status, escaping each other's smelly breathes and the ongoing recovery we all still find ourselves twitching over.
Australia's version of Paris and Berlin rolled into one. Just with markets built over cemeteries and one of the world's most straight forward tram systems. But still with only one bottle shop open 24 hrs across the entire place.
Call yourself a thirsty camel, ye.
We just want some quality eats, delectable drinks and continuous improvement.
Enjoy, I have officially now been inducted into the taskforce. From breakfast to dinner, Paris and Berlin, beers all the way up to sake then down a laneway to gin and juice.
You're either spending or slanting in this town.
😁

Some Reflections on My Time in Europe So Far.
Ive been here for almost a month now so I thought I’d share a little specifically as it pertains to race, gender, languages, and nationalities. European racism isn’t better or worse it’s just more awkward also it’s very dependent on gender.
In the northwestern big cities Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin etc it was pretty normal / non noticeable but there’s a lot of young black people there and all kinds of black as well. Biracial, African American, East and West African, and a lots of islanders so we fit in pretty seamlessly. When approached people assumed I was French Canadian and that he was from Texas (lol we have very different accents). If we didn’t speak at all people in the Netherlands assumed we were Afro-German students. The real tensions didn’t arise till we went southwest to Italy.
As soon as we crossed into the country from the Swiss border Italian police pulled my boyfriend off the train and started yelling at him in Spanish asking if he was a Colombian drug dealer and they tore through our bags (we’re both afrolatinos and mostly speaking Spanish in Italy because we don’t know Italian he also has a thick Ecuadorian accent from living there) We were asked if we were Colombian several times -even after they had our American passports. However once we pulled out our college ID’s and threw around some ultra midwestern slang (a few over drawn howdies and yeppers) their tones changed and all of sudden they claimed they were helping us not profiling.
They did the same thing to a group of Asian girls demanding them to give up all their fentanyl - I felt so bad for them they weren’t older than 15 on a student exchange and the cops wouldn’t let their host parents step in at all. Multiple people tried to step in for both my bf and I as well as the other girls but the cops were pretty hostile to them too. Eventually they let us all go but the whole debacle made us miss our next connecting train. Overall me and my bf experienced the worst xenophobia when we spoke Spanish. When addressing the authorities English was always our best bet. Unfortunately this was not our only experience with Italian law enforcement on this trip.
I was genuinely just ignored a lot when I wasn’t with my bf which was fine by me. I didn’t associate it with racism as much as people who didn’t speak English not attempting to speak to me unless they absolutely had to (waiters, airline workers, people working in shops). People weren’t necessarily as nice or as helpful but it seemed to be more of a difference in work culture in general. Customer service is just a much bigger thing in the states. Service with a smile just doesn’t really exist here. Additionally, contrary to common belief ( i.e. TikTok videos about girls trying to speak in their target language and being quickly shut down) most people in Europe don’t actually speak English and it’s a hassle for them to try. They speak about as much English as Americans who last took a language class in middle school and now open Duolingo 3x a year claim to know a little Spanish.
However once I spoke French things changed tune. No matter what country I’m in I received the best customer service (which wasn’t much lol) when I spoke French. I equate this to French just being a significantly easier linguistic switch to make in countries that already speak Romance languages. And France being significantly closer than England or the States.
We experienced some racism from other Americans abroad who assumed me and boyfriend were thieves. It was fucking hilarious. In most Italian train stations there are loud PA announcements in English warning people to look out for pickpockets and guaranteed you know who the Americans were because they would immediately stare at us like they saw the ghost of negroes past while checking for their belongings. At one point I failed to contain myself with this one woman i was waiting in line behind in order to get a train ticket and said “oh please bitch you’re okay”.
It was so funny tho cause I’d watch Italian teens pickpocket and steal and they weren’t necessarily good at it - it was just that most of the tourists were too racist to pay attention to who the real thieves were. They weren’t looking for the normal looking European guy in converse in jeans that’s inching up on them, they were trying to avoid the POC. I will say, in Italy a few guys tried it unsuccessfully just because they’d be so obvious (granted I’m from a big city so I’m used to knowing when someone is trying to get me in a situation and pretty adept at getting out of them).
Regardless of the culture shock and xenophobia/racism. I know for a fact I’m gonna move back to Italy in less than a year. It’s beautiful and warm year round, housing and food are so much more affordable and it’s without the same threat of political instability that currently exists is other places I was considered moving to. Additionally this racism just isn’t as bad. In America racists treat me like I’m a threat to their very existence, here i mostly felt like an alien that people weren’t sure how to address. And free college + affordable healthcare and greater access to travel and study/use more languages are absolutely worth a few awkward uncomfortable situations for me.
