“She’s almost here,” Dr Calhoun announced, “just a few more minutes and you’ll meet your little girl.”
“See baby? You’re doing amazing,” Kelly beamed, kissing you on the cheek.
“I didn’t think I’d be this nervous to be on the table,” you chuckled.
“And she’s out,” Dr Calhoun announced, rushing the baby to the warmer behind her.
“Why isn’t she crying? Kelly, why isn’t she crying?” You asked, a worried tone to your voice.
“Dr Calhoun? Is everything okay?” Kelly gruffly called over.
“Just clearing the mouth and nose and taking some measurements. Nothing to worry about,” she replied, “the nurses will take her final measurements and bring her over while I close your abdomen.”
You heard a loud wail come from across the room. You were both okay.
“We’re bring her over now, Mrs Severide,” a nurse told you as she brought over your baby and set her on your chest.
“Baby, she’s beautiful,” you started to tear up.
“She gets it from her mama,” he replied, brushing back your hair and kissing your forehead.
As Dr Calhoun finished stitching you up, the team got you ready to head into post op.
The trip to your recovery room was long, but your new baby made it feel short.
Once you and Kelly were settled in your recovery room, a nurse knocked on your door.
“Mrs Severide?” the nurse asked, “two firefighters are here to see you.”
“Send them in please,” you replied.
A few moments later, Casey and Boden walked through your door.
“How’d it go?” Casey asked you.
“I’m okay. Baby is perfect” you replied, a smile stuck to your face.
“Glad to hear,” Boden smiled, “the rest of 51 will be by after shift.”
“We just figured the two of us would come by for now, keep the knuckleheads at the firehouse,” Casey laughed.
“Knock knock,” Dr Calhoun said, pushing the door back, “is now a good time?”
“We’ll leave you guys be. I’ll bring Sylvie by tomorrow,” Casey smiled.
“Thanks Matt,” Kelly replied.
“Thank you guys for coming. It’s good to know she already has 51 looking out for her,” you smiled, wiping the tears off your face.
Casey and Boden left the room, as Doctor Calhoun made her way over to your bedside.
“The surgery went well. We’ll keep you here for a few days, then you both should be good to go home,” she smiled.
“That’s great news,” Kelly smiled.
“The best thing now is establishing some skin-to-skin with both of you. I’ll leave you guys to it, but a nurse will be outside if you need anything.”
Kelly helped you unbutton the top clasps on your gown, exposing the top of your chest. Feeling your brand new baby breathe on your chest was a surreal feeling, something you’d never thought you’d get.
Doctor Calhoun left your room. Kelly leaned over your bed and kissed you.
Looking over at you with your brand new baby, Kelly said, “I guess we should name her now, huh?”
“I’ve got a few ideas,” you chuckled.
“Which are?” He smiled.
“Well, for starters, I would like it to mean and honour something. I know we’ve talked about it before, but I think her middle name should be Shay. Leslie is a big reason we’re together and if we weren’t together, this little girl wouldn’t be here.”
“Baby,” Kelly’s eyes started to fill with tears, “I love you- I don’t even know what to say.”
“So that’s a yes to the middle name?”
“Of course it’s a yes.”
“Ok so first name ideas?”
“Alexis.”
“Alexis?”
“Your sister would’ve hopped on a plane as soon as we found out you were pregnant if it weren’t for losing her at 28. If she can’t be here, we should find a way to honour her memory. Alexis would’ve loved meeting her niece.”
“Alexis Shay Severide?”
“So it’s settled?”
“It’s settled. Ready to hold your daughter?”
“Never been so ready.”
“Take your shirt off then, mister.”
“Damn, I missed you saying that,” he laughed.
Picking up Alexis and handing her over to her father, your husband. It still didn’t feel real.
“She really is so beautiful,” he smiled.
There was a knock on the door and a blonde woman with glasses poked her head around the corner.
“We should call your mom,” Kelly reminded, “she’d want to come meet Alexis.”
“Can you FaceTime her?”
“Of course, babe. Do you want her back?”
“Well I mean, if you’re offering,” you chuckled.
You took Alexis back from Kelly and he grabbed his phone to call your mom.
“Hey mom, I’ve got someone who I think you’ll want to meet,” you laughed, Kelly tipping the phone down to see Alexis.
“Honey! You didn’t tell me she was arriving early! What’s her name? When was she born?” Your mom gushed.
“That’s actually why we’re calling. We figured you’d want to come meet her in person. She was born late this morning, then we picked her name a few minutes ago. Meet your granddaughter, Alexis Shay Severide.”
“Alexis? Like your sister?” She sighed, “why would you do that?”
“We thought it would be a good way to honour the life of my sister. Is there something wrong?” You felt yourself become stressed.

"What is this?" (for a 5 line fic)
A/N: Set after the hospital bomb in season 3.
Tumblr media
“What is this?” Kelly straightened as much as his injuries would allow and pointed a finger in the direction of the hospital room’s opening door. “You,” he said with a momentarily stunned breath of amusement, “are definitely not supposed to be here.”
The wheels of the IV pole squeaked as you slowly moved with it into the room, your slippers shuffling across the floor. At Kelly’s words and the finger he still hadn’t dropped, you offered an exhausted smile. “I won’t tell if you won’t.”
“I might have to if you collapse.” He pushed the sheets off and heaved himself up a bit more. His chest protested sharply to the movement and he clutched at it with a hiss through his teeth, letting out a short laugh after. “Look at us cripples,” he said. When he glanced up again, you had stopped in the middle of the room, your body slightly hunched over. Kelly sobered. “How’re you even standing?” He made to get up, ignoring the fact it had only been six days since the hospital explosion and his injures were just as severe as yours, but you took another step before he could swing his legs over the side of the bed.
“Perseverance is a powerful tool,” you spoke through a clenched jaw, pressing forward.
Kelly’s brows rose. “Not that powerful,” he said. “You fractured your ribs, Y/N.” And dislocated your shoulder, received a concussion, and got pierced in the stomach by a nasty shard of glass, he thought to himself with an inward sigh.
You stopped by his bed, situated the IV pole, and sat on the edge with a huff that almost had you toppling off. Kelly put a hand on your back and briefly considered calling for a nurse, but in all reality he’d been just about ready to escape his own room to find yours. Knowing you were somewhere in the hospital but he couldn’t see you had been more gruelling than he’d let on. It hadn’t been enough for Matt to just give him updates on your situation. He’d shoved you away from the suicide bomber before shoving the bomber himself. Guilt had been one of multiple emotions he’d felt after waking, though Matt had done a good job in ridding him of that.
“I just wanted to see you,” you told him between breaths.
“Alright,” Kelly said, “and I wanted to see you, but—” He glanced at the IV pole and then at the catheter in your wrist. “You didn’t unhook yourself from anything, did you?” At the small shake of your head, he nodded. “Okay. How’re you feeling?”
“Tired. In pain.” You rubbed at your eyes. “Wanna go home.”
“You and me both.” Kelly shifted to make space beside him and pulled the sheets back up. “C’mere and lie down.” You gradually lay back, your face contorting into many expressions as you worked around your battered body. Eventually, you found a comfortable position tucked against his side, your head on his arm and the rest of your body stretched out towards the end of the bed. You squeezed your eyes shut against the exertion and focused on your breathing, a daily thing you’d had to become accustomed to in the past week.
“How are you?” you mumbled after a short while.
Kelly brushed his fingers across your shoulder. “I’m getting there,” he said. “Looks like we both are. It won’t be too long until we can go home and get back to work now, huh?” A brief smile flit across your lips and he bent to rest his cheek against you. “Man,” he spoke under his breath, “it’s so good to see you again, Y/N. You had us all worried.”
“So did you,” you said. “They almost lost you.”
Kelly opened his mouth to argue against that, but you weren’t wrong. You had been hurt, perhaps more than him, but they’d stabilised you quickly. His own journey had been rocky, or so he’d heard. In some morbid way, he was glad it hadn’t gone in the opposite direction. Waking up to hear of your injuries had been bad enough, but seeing you close to death on the operating table would have messed him up.
He shook the thoughts from his head and subconsciously tightened his hold around you. “We’re still here,” he reminded both you and himself.
You moved your head to lie against his chest, the dull thump of his heart soothing you. “Good,” you whispered.
It was then that the door handle was pushed down, and your eyes shot open. You briefly glanced up at Kelly, then shut your eyes once more. “I’m asleep,” you said hurriedly.
Kelly didn’t have much time to consider your words. When the door opened and a nurse walked in, stopping suddenly when she clocked the extra body in the bed, Kelly shrugged.
“She’s asleep,” he said.
The nurse shook her head but a small smile pulled at her lips. She checked your vitals first before moving to do the same for Kelly. “And why is she asleep in here, and not in her own room?”
“Ah.” He smiled. “She’s got a mind of her own, this one.”
“Looks like she gets it from her family.” Stepping back, the nurse sighed but obviously couldn’t not relent. “Alright,” she said. “Anything happens, call for help immediately.”
Kelly nodded. “Got it. Thanks.”
The nurse looked far from convinced, but she left all the same, likely to make everyone on the ward aware that the girl with the broken ribs and the healing wound in her side had escaped into the fire lieutenant’s room, and she had been too much of a pushover to grab the nearest wheelchair and take her back.
You opened your eyes and peered victoriously up at Kelly, who laughed and shook his head. “Get some real sleep now, conspirator,” he said.

Note
Hi! Would you maybe do a fic where the reader tells Kelly he’s going to be a dad? Super cute and fluffy and very excited Kelly.
Baby Severide
Warning: morning sickness/ vomiting, lots of fluff
Authors note: sorry it took so long to get this posted! I just haven’t had the spark to write in a while. Hope you enjoy!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two days prior to the announcement:
You woke next to Kelly like you do every day. The sun was just shining in and the cool breeze was rustling the curtains. You had nowhere to go today, so you weren’t entirely sure why you were awake. Kelly had canceled everything for the day since you had woken up sick two days in a row and were left feeling awful for most of the day. You soon realized why you were awake.
You untangled yourself from the sheets and shoved Kelly’s arm to the side as you ran for the bathroom. You barely made it in time when your stomach gave in. You had a white knuckle grip on the tank, sobbing as the next wave came up, when Kelly ran in.
“Oh baby.” Kelly sighed sympathetically. He grabbed your wash rag and wet it before coming to pull you down to your knees. “Shhhhhh. Just let it out. You are doing so good.” Kelly soothed, laying the cloth on the back of your neck.
You blindly reached for him, sobbing and hyperventilating as you tried to stop the vomiting. “K-hurk” you tried to call out his name, but a harsh retch cut you off.
“Sh sh sh. Don’t talk. Just focus on breathing baby girl.” Kelly said, taking your hair away from your face and gently rubbing your back as you gripped his pajama pants.
The episode lasted for about 10 minutes before you were finally able to pull away. You fell into Kelly’s arms with a sob. You hate throwing up and have now thrown up three days in a row. You don’t know what’s wrong.
“I gotcha. I gotcha.” Kelly shushed, slightly rocking back and forth. “Shhhhh. It’s okay Angel. You feeling better?” He hummed, kissing your sweaty forehead. You rose your hand and tilted it side to side in response.
“Think your done for now?” Kelly asked, leaning back a little to see your face. You nodded and Kelly smiled at you. “Okay baby girl. Up you go.” Kelly said, pushing you back just enough to stand and then pull you into his arms.
Kelly stopped to let you wash your mouth out a few times and blow your nose. He checked your temp for the third day in a row and hummed at the thermometer. It just couldn’t be right.
“Welp. No fever again baby.” Kelly said, rubbing your sides as you sat on the bathroom counter. “Ready to crawl back in bed or do you want a shower?” Kelly asked, standing between your legs still.
“Bed first. Nap. Shower later.” You said, laying out your plan.
Kelly laughed and lifted you up. “Yes ma’am.” He said, kissing the side of your head before he deposited you onto the bed.
Hours later, you woke to a note from Kelly saying he was going to go help Matt do something and stop by the store. Assuming he’d be back around the time he specified, which was suppose to be 6 pm, you called Kim Burgess.
“Burgess.” Kim answered on the third ring.
“Hey Kim. It’s Y/n. Are you busy at the moment?” You asked, knowing that since it was 4 pm, she could be on the job.
“Nope. Just wrapped up a case. What’s up?” Kim asked, continuing to pack up for the day.
“I need a huge favor. Like, I need this to stay between us until I know for sure.” You said, twisting the sheets in your hands anxiously. You had an idea of what the problem was, now that this had been going on for three days in a row, but you did not feel well enough to leave home.
“I already know. I’ll be there in 20.” Kim said, hanging up.
You chuckled, knowing your best friend probably knew before you did.
Now:
As you suspected, Kim figured out you were pregnant before you or Kelly did. You knew that Kelly didn’t have a clue since he was pretty adamant about not going on shift yesterday, but you promised that you would call him if you needed him and would check in regularly. Since he left, you and Kim had been working on your little announcement.
When Kelly got home the morning after his shift, he was pleasantly surprised to find you sitting on the couch. You had on a red hoodie that he did not recognize, a pillow hugged to your stomach, as you sipped on some coffee.
“Hey sweetheart.” Kelly called, smiling as he eyed you.
You grinned. “Hey handsome. Come join me.” You said, setting your coffee to the side and moving the bag that you had next to you.
Kelly slide into his place, pulling you into his side. “Feeling any better?” He whispered, planting a kiss on your temple.
“About that.” You said, grinning. “I have some news.” You handed Kelly the bag from Walgreens and removed the pillow as he peaked inside. You held back a laugh at his confused face.
“Do we know…” he started to say, pulling out the little firefighter boots, but stopping short as he read your hoodie. “Newest member of squad three.” He read, a smile blossoming on his face as he looked to where the arrow was pointing at your stomach. “Oh my God!” Kelly yelled, grinning from ear to ear. “Are you serious?!”
You nodded, grinning like a fool as tears rolled down your face. “Your gonna be a daddy Kel.” You whispered, voice choked with tears of joy.
Kelly started chuckling and pulled you into a hug. “Baby. This is the best day of my life.” Kelly practically sang, leaning back to look at you, then leaning down to your belly. “Hey fire cracker. It’s your daddy and I am soooo happy you are going to be ours.” Kelly whispered, kissing your stomach.
You held a hand over your mouth, refusing to sob at the sight in front of you. You knew Kelly would be excited, especially given the way he reacted when he held your nephew for the first time.
“How long?” Kelly asked, kissing you quickly.
“Nat says I’m 7 weeks. I just never thought about it since I’m so irregular, but I saw her yesterday after I got a positive home test.” You explained, wiping happy tears from Kelly’s face as he did the same for you.
“When can we tell everyone?!” Kelly asked, practically jumping in his seat.
You chucked, so happy that he was happy. “Whenever your ready.”
Babysitting
Pairing: Kelly Severide x Reader
Requested: yes, by anon
Summary: Kelly tries to convince Y/N to let Capp and Tony babysit their daughter so they can go out for date night.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1,392
Warnings: none
A/N: Feels like I haven't posted a Kelly fic for a while so I decided to put this out today! I was going to make this into a drabble but after talking to @mertes4cker this is where we are HAHA. (thank you bb!)
KELLY SEVERIDE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You hoisted Anna up more securely against you and frowned at your husband as you stood at his squad table.
“I thought you said everything was taken care of.”
Kelly glanced back up at you. “It was but the sitter bailed on us at the last minute. But I have taken care of the problem. Date night is still on.”
God knows you and Kelly both needed it but getting a reliable night sitter always seemed to be a problem.
You raised your eyebrows.
“Capp and Tony can babysit tomorrow night.”
You let out a short laugh before you realized your husband wasn’t making a joke. “You’re serious?”
“What? They joke around a lot of the time but you know Capp would totally be on Anna’s wavelength. They’re available and willing and…” Kelly argued.
You glanced back around, where Tony and Cruz were currently trying to jam a firefighter’s boot onto Capp’s head, just to prove it could be done.
“You want to leave your daughter with them for the night to see if our house burns to the ground?” You asked. “Kelly, I love you and your guys are great people. You know I know that.”
Kelly put a hand up, taking one last glance back at them. Of course, they’d be doing the world’s stupidest thing right now at this moment for you to see.
“Y/N, they’ll be fine. And we need to do this for our own sanity.” Kelly gently prompted.
You sighed, leaning in to press up against him gently. “I know, baby. But do you really think I’ll be able to have date night wondering if that is happening at home?” You pointed gently back towards them now, where the boot seemed to now be stuck on Capp’s head.
Kelly let out a grimace, as he put an arm gently around your waist. “I swear they’re not always like this.”
You laughed. “I know. But I’m having a hard enough time leaving my daughter behind to go for date night. I’m not trying to be difficult or insinuating that they’re not good people.” You glanced at Anna, who was extremely distracted now with your hair. “I just…”
“I know. I know.” Kelly assured, pressing a kiss to your temple. “If it makes you feel better, I made them sign something?”
You looked up, your interest piquing, as Kelly smiled and handed you a piece of paper before he plucked Anna out of your arms to your daughter’s obvious delight.
Your eyes scanned the words on the paper in front of you, which said in not so many words that they’d keep their crazy business nowhere near the house you and Kelly shared, and even further away from your daughter.
You glanced up at Kelly with a small smile. “Okay, maybe this makes me feel a little better.”
Tumblr media
You had given in.
While not exactly representative of how they would take care of Anna without you and Kelly there, Kelly had still arranged for some type of supervised play time for Anna, where you and Kelly were practically invisible. So just that day, you'd sat at the kitchen island drinking from the cup of coffee that Kelly had put in your hand and watched Capp and Tony be absolutely adorable with your daughter.
So that’s why you were now sitting across from your husband in a restaurant. Not just any restaurant, either. The restaurant that held special memories for the both of you.
“It isn’t any special day today.” You’d told him, frowning just a little at the entrance, combing through your ‘mom brain’ to see if you’d forgotten anything.
Kelly just smiled and threaded his fingers through yours. “Reservation under Kelly Severide.” He told the host before the guy nodded and led you both to a table.
“To make up for all those things we kind of lost.” Kelly said, smiling. “Look, just because we have Anna doesn’t mean we can’t do things like this. Date night traditions are important.”
You let a soft smile flit across your face as Kelly reached forward for your hand on the table, his thumb running gently across your knuckles.
Kelly had, of course, been right. You’d both really needed this and while your mind still lingered on how Anna was doing back home, you resisted the urge to bring it up, reminding yourself that Kelly needed this as much as you did.
But, as soon as your plates were cleared, Kelly glanced up. “Should we skip dessert?”
You pressed your lips together to try not to betray a smile.
“This was your idea.” You reminded him, revealing the small smile to him now to let him know you were teasing him.
Kelly rolled his eyes. “I know. But it’s too quiet, and I just…”
You let out a small tinkling laugh. “Yeah, let’s get some waffles to go on the way home and we can have dessert with Anna instead.”
Kelly agreed way too quickly, grabbing the bill and heading towards the front. You smiled, catching yourself once again marveling at the fact that Kelly Severide was actually your husband.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, the place with Anna’s favorite waffles opened late - it was one of the regular places that you and Kelly had frequented when you’d been dating, so it’d felt really special bringing Anna there. And, as expected, Anna had fallen in love with their waffles, and only theirs.
You wanted to laugh at the way Kelly seemed to be balancing his veiled worry with trying to act nonchalantly but you kept quiet, as Kelly opened the door.
But what greeted you was a weird sight that you didn’t know what to make of.
Capp was crawling along the ground, peering under the sofa, just as Tony emerged from one of the other rooms. “Capp, she’s not…”
Tony froze as he saw you and Kelly standing in the doorway.
“Hey guys.” You called, a little warily. “Everything okay?”
Both Capp and Tony glanced at each other, as Capp got off his feet.
“What?” Kelly asked, the tone of concern ticking up in his voice.
“Okay, don’t get mad.” Capp said, standing up with his hands up.
Kelly narrowed his eyes.
“We can’t find her.”
“You what?” Kelly shot back.
You frowned before you glanced at Tony. “Did something happen? Was she upset?”
Tony shook his head. “I swear she was fine. She asked us for something and by the time we turned back around…”
You broke the climbing tension with a chuckle, as Kelly looked at you like you had lost your mind.
You didn’t say anything to them. Instead, you raised your voice a little, your voice echoing around the apartment. “Ms Anna? Ms Anna Severide? Could we interest you in waffle time?”
It took just another second before a little body zoomed out from one of the rooms. “Mommy! Daddy!”
Capp glanced back at Tony incredulously as Kelly scooped Anna into his arms and you smiled. “Anna knows all the best hiding places here. She just needs… the right motivation.”
Capp let out a breath. “God, she really freaked me out for a bit, I thought I might actually have to give up being a firefighter.”
You laughed, as Kelly cracked a smile.
“Thanks for your help today, guys.” You said, smiling. “Drinks are on Kelly and me for your next Molly’s visit, alright?”
You thanked Capp and Tony as you saw them out, turning back to glance at your daughter who was no longer paying attention.
“Anna, you know you’re not supposed to scare people like that.” You said, although you were still smiling.
Anna just grinned cheekily back at you, chocolate already smeared across her lips from the waffle she was stuffing into her face.
Kelly smiled, pressing a kiss to the top of Anna’s head, and reaching over to drape his hand over your shoulders.
“Date night was a good idea, though, right?” He asked you in a low voice.
You smiled and nodded. “But next time, maybe we should choose a date night when the Herrmanns are available.” You paused. “Just so we can have dessert.” You teased gently.
Kelly pretended like he didn’t hear you, reaching over to swipe a bite of waffle straight from Anna’s fork, her peals of laughter and sounds of protest filling your house and just making you smile.
In Sickness and In Health
Fandom: Chicago Fire
Pairing: Kelly Severide x GN!Reader
Genre: romance, hurt/comfort, fluff
Word Count: 2368
Warnings: just mentions asthma, taking an inhaler
Summary: The reader is having an asthma flare, and their husband Kelly Severide is there for them.
A/N: This is part of @resanoona's #resa.3kfiestabingo! I'm using this fic to fill the "Sick/Illness" square!
You feel the strain on your upper body as you carry on coughing for what feels like an eternity, the sharp throb in the back of your head is a reminder of how much stress your body is under - as if you didn’t know already. Your eyes water as the muscles in your face and throat tense under the assault of hacks and wheezes.
A small gasp escapes you as the cough dies off and you can intake oxygen fully, trying to control your breathing and get in as much air as you could get before another round of coughing finds you. You could tell this wasn’t a full-blown emergency, but it was definitely a strenuous episode that was testing your patience.
Taking the opportunity to have a drink of water from the bottle you kept tucked next to you at all times. Cautious sips are followed by your weary body sinking against the mountain of pillows on the couch, Kelly had put them there before he left for work yesterday morning.
Your back aches from the jolting of everything with each cough that wracked you, and you couldn’t wait to feel your husband’s hands massaging away every painful knot. You try and roll out the pressure in your shoulders, mindful to keep breathing as evenly and slowly as possible.
When you think the window of opportunity is still open, you pick up your inhaler, puffing once as you deeply inhale the medication. Your eyes close in relief, feeling your chest respond almost instantly as you exhale, steadying yourself for a second puff.
You’re taking the second puff with an inhale as you hear a key in the front door to the apartment, your stomach fluttering happily as you realise Kelly was finally home from his long shift.
Carrying on with the inhale, you turn your head to Kelly, watching him put his bag by the kitchen island and something on the counter as he clocks you on the couch. You offer a small wave with your free hand, relief plastered over your face. Between the salbutamol and Kelly Severide, you feel your morning taking a turn for the better.
Your husband bends down to press a kiss to your forehead, a gentle hand already rubbing up and down your sore back. “Good morning, baby.” He murmurs, studying your face to see just how bad the coughing had been. Your eyes were a little sunken with bags, clearly tired from the night’s coughing and this morning’s continuation, he could see the tiny burst vessels in your cheeks from the pressure.
“Good morning, my love.” You smile, reaching up a hand to caress his face, studying his kind features, those sincere and intense blue eyes made your whole world come to a standstill. You run a gentle hand through that salt and pepper hair you adored so much, glad to see him home and okay.
“How are we doing?” He queries, coming to sit beside you and open up an arm for you to sidle in close against him, wrapping yourself around his body like the koala you were.
You hum, nuzzling into his neck with soft lips that move to trail across his jawline. Mumbling against his skin, craving the warmth of the skin-to-skin contact. “Doing okay, it’s been rough but nothing we haven’t dealt with before. Glad you’re here though, missed you a lot. How was shift?”
He smiles at your words and your affections, resuming the gentle massage of your lower back, working his way up to between your shoulder blades and back down again. “Shift was… a little tough, a few too many homes in trouble this time of year. It's cold out and people will use whatever they can for heat, some of it is dangerous. Hell, you know how the Chief met Donna.”
You nod with a pang of sadness, it was horrible to think people were endangering themselves in other ways because using their heating wasn’t an option. You bring your hands to Kelly’s face, holding him gently as you kiss him. You knew he took these things to heart, he hated to see people hurting and this was definitely a sore point. People had the right to be warm in the dead of winter and not risk burning down their homes to survive.
He looks at you for a good moment, and the anguish swims in his gaze, you were all too ready and willing to be his tether when things felt a little stormy. You softly bump your forehead to his, “You do everything you can for them, Kelly, and then some. I know that, and they know it too.”
He nods in acknowledgement of your words, smiling thankfully as he wraps his arms around you, tugging you onto his lap to hold you closer than you already were.
“Thank you.” He whispers, simply rocking you ever so slightly as he keeps you in his embrace.
“Nothing to thank me for, honey. Just the truth.” You whisper back, about to ask him if he wanted breakfast, to do anything today, or if he was ready to go straight to bed and catch up on sleep.
Except your chest has other plans when you open your mouth, a slight catch of air in your throat sends you into another round of coughs that make you push quickly up and off of Kelly as you try not to splutter in his face.
Hunched over on the couch as each wave of constricting muscle reverberates against your chest wall, dry wheezing sounds escaping as your ribs protest the action.
“It’s alright, baby, I got you.” Kelly encourages, holding onto you as he rubs your back carefully, feeling frustratingly helpless as you can only try and get it all out.
“S-sorry…” You cough out, eyes watering and your nose starting to stream, trying to push back against the spasms with futility.
Kelly shakes his head, kissing your shoulder, “Shh, don’t be sorry, don’t try to talk, just ride it out, I’m right here.”
There’s a pause in the coughing, without words Kelly is already offering you your inhaler, knowing now is the time to try and lessen the worst of it.
Your husband’s voice mellows your stress as he speaks, holding your free hand as you use the other to bring the inhaler to your lips. “You got it, take deep and slow breaths, sweetheart.”
Focusing on Kelly’s voice, you take another puff of the inhaler, breathing in as you feel the air fill your lungs, the release of pressure is merciful.
“There we go, exhale, baby.” He soothes, exhaling with you as you feel yourself sag slightly against Kelly’s embrace.
“Let’s do the second puff, okay?” Your husband encourages you, and you nod, knowing it was probably a wise idea.
You push on the canister, feeling the almost metallic tang of the medicine hit your tongue once more. Filling your lungs again all the way until you’re ready to breathe out.
There’s a slight dizziness from the exertion of the coughing and the headiness of the medication, letting Kelly take the inhaler from you as you have another drink of water.
“Here we go.” Kelly plucks some tissues from the dispense on the coffee table, offering a few to you so you could blow your nose and use another to wipe your eyes. Keeping your breaths steady and even as you clear your sinuses, dropping the tissue into the bin as you move on to dabbing at your stinging eyes.
Once you’re done, you have no desire to do anything else but stay in Kelly’s arms, wrapping yourself around him like you had when he first came home.
You rest your head on your husband’s shoulder, “We’ll keep an eye on that, that’s half your dose for the day already, isn’t it?” He asks, slightly concerned by how much energy it had taken from you.
You hum in the affirmative, seeking his body heat and presence all the more now, absentmindedly tracing over the tiny metal links of the chain around his neck. Kelly always made you feel safe and taken care of, even more so now when your asthma could so easily progress to something more severe.
“Want to stay here or want to go to bed?” He asks, stroking your hair softly.
“Kelly, I’m supposed to ask you that.” You grumble, annoyed that you were having this episode, you had wanted to do things for Kelly when he came home from work, not the other way around.
He lets out a small incredulous chuckle, kissing your nose, “Y/N, did you forget the “in sickness” part of our vows? I don’t for one second begrudge taking care of you, especially when you have no control over it.”
You wouldn’t say you were pouting exactly, but you were pretty close to it. You let out a little sigh, tracing featherlight fingertips over the features of Kelly’s face, admiring him.
“I know, but still…” You frown, “Kelly, I’m sorry.”
Kelly becomes a little more serious now, not liking that you felt the need to apologise all the time. He knew exactly where that habit had been instilled into you.
His face may be sterner, but his voice is tentative, “Babe, I know that your mom made you feel like you weren’t allowed to be sick, or that the coughing was a disturbance, but I need you to understand that with me, under our roof? There’s nothing to be sorry for, you haven’t done anything wrong and you’re not a burden, not even close. Is that clear?”
You hesitate to answer, still conflicted, but you can see Kelly as always is so very genuine in his words. He knew what it was like to have parents who didn't always show up for their kids, and you knew it struck a chord in him. So you nod. “Okay, yeah… that’s clear. I love you.”
He smiles, kissing your lips this time, “I love you. Now, where to?”
"Mm, could we try a shower first? I think I need the steam." You concede, already daydreaming of the warm water and the steam that will ease your discomfort. Already planning to finish it off with a cocoon of pillows, a weighted blanket and Kelly's body heat to make you feel better.
Kelly nods, smiling, "Steamy shower it is, then bed and a movie?" He queries, knowing you liked a little background comfort when you weren't feeling well.
You nod, rubbing his arm in thanks. "Okay, we'll pick something when you're settled. Come on." He encourages you, taking you by the hands to help you stand. You sway just a little but Kelly is there to steady you, an arm around your waist as you both walk to the bathroom.
Your back hurts from the movement, but you're finally able to prop yourself up in the bathroom chair whilst Kelly runs the water, letting it get steamy and hot enough to soothe but not burn.
“Kelly?” You ask sleepily, watching your husband’s back and arm muscles move as he reaches to adjust the shower head.
“Yeah, babe?” He turns, watching with an affectionate smile, you could be positively adorable when you were sleepy.
“What did you put on the kitchen counter earlier?” Your voice is curious, one might say hopeful, you already had a hunch of the object as you thought you recognised it to be an olive green crockpot from a certain household.
Kelly chuckles, he could tell you already knew. “It might have been some of that vegetable broth you love so much from Cindy. There’s fresh bread in my bag too.”
Your tired eyes light up, “Oh my god, that woman is truly heaven-sent.” you sigh happily, gleeful of how this day was turning out despite the circumstances.
“Mhm.” Kelly hums in agreement, “I told Herrmann yesterday you were feeling rough, so he must have put out the soup signal to Cindy.” Kelly approaches you, stopping to take off his own clothes before moving to you.
You yawn, smiling, “I have to text them later, don’t let me forget.” Standing with Kelly’s help as he starts to undress you carefully, pressing a kiss to your bare shoulder as he helps you behind the glass of the shower. “I won’t let you forget. For now, let’s take care of you and get that steam working.”
“Yes, Lieutenant.” You tease, letting your husband massage your shoulders and neck, as you take deep inhales and exhales, letting the steam into every pore, feeling your chest ease up in its ache and tightness.
“That’s my love” Kelly praises, holding you close to his chest as he walks you through some breathing exercises, knowing his voice always added a layer of calm to the process.
-
45 minutes later and you’re towelled dry, bundled up in your pyjamas and fluffy socks, cosied by a heating pad and waiting for the soup that Kelly was warming for you. There were extra blankets, water, your inhaler and some painkillers on the nearby bedside table, there were also tissues, lip balm, a nasal inhaler and some snacks for the movie too.
It’s not even another 15 minutes before Kelly’s in bed beside you, both of you gratefully sipping on the vegetable broth, feeling it warm you from the inside out, watching the opening scenes of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, you couldn’t be more content.
An hour into the movie, your soup is gone and your tray cleared, you’re finally nestled against your husband with no intention of moving any time soon, his chest is your pillow as you feel yourself doze off and on, Kelly’s fingers so gentle as they slowly stroke through your hair, massaging your scalp in the process.
“Babe?” Kelly whispers, checking to see if you were awake, only to be met with soft puffs of breath as you fall deeper into slumber. Your husband simply keeps his hold on you, smiling to himself as he allows his own eyes to rest.
It was never a question in his mind, long before he stood at the altar he knew, that in sickness and in health, he would be there for you.
——
Holding your hand as you walked up the driveway, Kelly kissed your forehead.
“Ready for this?” He asked.
“The 51 love? Always,” you laughed.
Sylvie and Matt were the first to greet the two of you.
“You’re glowing!” Sylvie exclaimed, “how much longer until we get to meet this little one?”
“Well, that’s why we’re here,” Kelly started.
“The doctor is worried that the baby is too big and may cause some risk to the baby. We’ve scheduled a c-section for Saturday morning at 11:30,” you announced, excited.
“That’s amazing!” Sylvie smiled.
“You ready for this?” Matt asked Kelly.
“Yeah, I’m ready. She’s gonna do great,” he replied, “I’ve got to go talk to Boden about extending my furlough though.”
“He’s between meetings right now. Now is your best bet to talk to him.”
“Come with me, I want some opinions on my replacement.”
Matt followed Kelly into Boden’s office.
“Mind if I have a listen?” Sylvie asked.
“Go ahead, Doctor said she’s got a strong heartbeat. Been kicking like crazy too,” you laughed.
Grabbing your hand, Sylvie led you to the back of 61.
“Two days away, huh?” Sylvie asked, grabbing the stethoscope from the jump bag.
“Yeah, the timeline was a bit of a shock, but more time Kelly and I can spend with the baby together, so I’ll take it,” you smiled, rubbing your belly.
Sylvie put the earpieces in her ears and brought the chest piece up to your belly.
“Magical, isn’t it?” You giggled.
“She’s so strong. Maybe she’ll be a firefighter like her daddy,” Sylvie laughed.
“With a family like 51, she’d kick ass at it for sure.”
“Should we go see the boys?”
“Make sure Kelly isn’t trying to get back on shift today,” you laughed.
“Here I’ll help you up,” Sylvie offered, reaching out her hand.
As she helped you back on your own two feet, you started to feel a little woozy and Sylvie could tell.
“Hey, you okay?” She asked, gripping your forearm.
“Yeah I’m fine, just a little head rush.”
“You should sit down.”
“No no I’m okay, really Sylvie. Thank you. Let’s go see Kelly and Matt.”
“Okay, but I’m gonna bring the stethoscope just in case.”
“Fine by me,” you smiled.
Walking over to Boden’s office, you saw Kelly with a few tears on his face through the window.
Sylvie knocked on the door and you followed her inside.
“What’s wrong?” You asked.
“Nothing baby, I’m okay,” he replied, wrapping his arms around you.
As you used your thumbs to wipe the tears from his face, more streamed along behind them. His mouth with a slight smile.
“What did you do with my husband?” You asked, looking at Matt and Wallace.
“He was talking about the baby and how happy he is to be becoming a dad,” Matt laughed.
Boden, Matt and Sylvie quietly left the room as you cupped Kelly’s face in your hands.
“Baby I love you and I love this little girl so much,” he laughed, wiping the tears from his face.
“I love you too babe. I didn’t know you felt thi-“
Kelly caught you off guard with a passionate kiss.
“Let’s get you home,” he smiled.
——
“Can you believe we get to meet our daughter tomorrow?” You asked, smiling from ear to ear.
“You ready?” Kelly asked, packing the rest of his things for the hospital.
“As soon as we finish packing for the baby. Then, yes,” you laughed.
“You pick out the outfits for her and I’ll pack the rest. You need sleep baby.”
“I’ll be fine. I don’t want to forget anything.”
“Five more minutes then I’m tucking you into bed. We’re having a baby tomorrow, baby,” he smiled.
——
Kelly dropped you off out front and went over to the lot to park. You found yourself a bench to sit on while waiting for your husband. An older man was sat down beside you a moment later.
“What are you here for, young lady?” He asked.
“A c-section. My baby is too big so I’ve got to have surgery. You?”
“Bad heart. Getting a new valve today.”
“That’s exciting, why aren’t you in there?”
“Could say the same for you.”
“I guess that’s true,” you laughed.
“Truth is, they’re putting a pig valve in me. I’m going to be 1/200th part pig by the end of the day. That don’t sit right with me. My son already doesn’t talk to me, why would he talk to me when I’m part pig?” He grumbled.
“I’ll tell you what. Once they do my surgery and say I’m all good, I’ll come by to see you, let you meet the baby.”
“You’d do that for an old guy like me?”
“Hell yeah I would. What’s your name? I’ll have one of my nurses look you up.”
“Aaron Whitley.”
You saw Kelly parking the car and walking towards the hospital.
“Looks like I’ll have to let you go. My husband is walking up,” you laughed.
“With a good looking husband like that, I’d leave me too,” he chuckled, “he looks really strong, what does he do for work?”
“He’s a rescue squad lieutenant with the CFD.”
“Good genes.”
“I guess so,” you smiled.
Kelly walked over with your bag.
“Kelly, this is Aaron. He’s having surgery too today,” you announced.
“Nice to meet you Aaron. I’d love to get to know you, but I’ve got to get her upstairs,” he replied, “thanks for taking good care of her, Aaron.”
“I’ll see you soon,” you smiled.
Kelly shook his hand and you waved behind you as you walked in the front doors to the hospital. Today was the day.
"You are being stupid and reckless"
For your Chicago fire family! ❤️
Tumblr media
“You are being stupid and reckless,” Matt Casey ground out through clenched teeth as he tightened his grip on your forearms. He turned then as you struggled futilely against him, dipping his head dangerously low in the direction of Gabby, Stella and Sylvie, who were snickering in a corner of the bar. “All four of you!”
Stella snorted, practically doubling over Sylvie. “What?” she called out, her words slurred. “Can’t handle as much drink as us?”
“Lightweights!” Gabby.
“Pussies!” Sylvie.
“I want a baby koaaaala!” you lilted, manging to wrench free and toppling back against Kelly, who’d stood from his bar stool the moment Antonio Dawson had entered Molly’s with you, Gabby, Stella and Sylvie trailing in front of him, your arms linked together like schoolchildren as you attempted to keep each other up. Apparently, Matt’s hesitation about agreeing to let the older ladies take his younger sister on her first pub crawl had been well suited. Not a single member of Firehouse 51 had ever seen you so...out of sorts.
“Wohoah, there! Slow down, madcap.” Kelly couldn’t help the grin that appeared on his face, an unfamiliar blend of both amusement and shock, as he caught your flailing arms. You seemed intent on getting to the ladies in the corner, reaching a hand out towards them like some crazed zombie.
“Hey, hey, Kidd!” As had been customary since the moment Stella joined 51, both she and you turned at what could have been either her last name or your pet name. Neither of you seemed to be in an answering mood, however. Hermann expertly slid across the bar table and grabbed the beer bottles that Stella had seemingly sprung from mid-air. “No more alcohol for you! Your livers’ll thank me for it later.”
“How much did you even drink?” Otis asked. His brows were raised so high they almost touched his hairline as he glanced between the last four women he’d expected to see this intoxicated.
“Oh,” Sylvie said with a laugh, “a lot. And I mean a lot, a lot.”
“A lot,” Stella mirrored.
“Like...a lot,” Gabby agreed with a defining nod, taking a step to the left and almost tripping over thin air before Otis leapt forward to catch her.
Matt’s expression was one of absolute displeasure, paired with a mortifyingly sinking feeling in his chest. He turned towards Antonio, who was still stood by Molly’s entrance, hands on his hips while he watched the situation unfold with what could only be intrigue.
“Antonio.” Matt threw his arms up in the air, defeated. “What can I say?”
Antonio shook his head and moved forward. “Look, man, I’m just as embarrassed over Gabby as you.” He opened his mouth to continue before sparing a quick glance at you, intoxicatingly determined to escape Kelly’s hold and grab his unfinished beer on the bar table. Kelly was clearly having difficulty figuring out whether he should be pissed or amused that the girl he’d helped raise was drunk out of her mind for the first time in her life. Later in the evening, when they brought you all home and put you to bed, they’d laugh about it until their sides hurt. For now, it seemed Matt was the adult in the situation.
“Has she ever had this much to drink?” Antonio asked, jerking a thumb in your direction.
Matt ran a hand down his face. “She rarely touches the stuff. To say I’m surprised is a...nauseous understatement. Where’d you say you found them?”
“Just down the street, on their way back here. Did you know they were going on a pub crawl?”
Before Matt could answer, Gabby and Sylvie stumbled forward, drunken laughter spilling from their lips. Stella had attached herself to Kelly, peppering kisses on his cheek as he attempted to keep both her and you in check.
Gabby stopped uncomfortably close to her brother. “Of course we were going on a pub crawl, Antonio,” she drawled. “The girl’s just turned twenty-one! Not every day that happens.”
“Yeah,” Sylvie piped up, aimlessly pointing a finger at the ceiling. “What’d you think we were gonna do? Sit around Molly’s all night for a tame evening of karaoke and board games? Hell no! That’s what the boys are here for!”
That had indeed been what the boys were here for. After shift, they’d met up at Molly’s to close it to the public and decorate the place in time for your birthday party that evening. 51 had had a great few hours together, but eventually Gabby had suggested she, Stella and Sylvie take you out for your first birthday pup crawl. Of course, the guys had insisted they join in, but the ladies had demanded that this was a girls’ night only, and you’d be back later to re-join the party. That had seemed a little unrealistic—Matt and Kelly knew all too well their girlfriends’ party potential—but every member of the family had subconsciously stuck around Molly’s to see that it came to pass, each one ready with a list of Chicago pubs in case you didn’t return by midnight.
Mouch gestured to the birthday cake, sent by Mills with the promise he’d come visit soon. “Have some cake, Y/N, it’s divine.”
“Oh, we’ve already had some,” Sylvie interrupted as she waved her hand in disinterest.
“Pink Moon were selling slices, three for the price of one,” Stella said, draping her arms around Kelly’s neck. “We got, like, six portions.”
“Seven,” Gabby corrected.
“Seven portions.”
“Hey, hey, get this!” Your stammering words broke above the discreet conversations echoing around the bar. You seemed to have tired of struggling, one hand grasping the wrist of Kelly’s arm wrapped around your waist to keep her steady. Still, you were in high spirits, your head lolling around as you grinned. “A police detective picks up four drunk girls from a pub, then brings them back to safety...at another pub. Suuuch a hypocrite, Tony.”
Antonio turned a dark glare on Gabby, who seemed to sober up for the briefest of seconds.
“I did not teach her that nickname,” she asserted, not at all assertedly.
“Yeah, okay.” Antonio’s words were laced with exhaustion as he shook his head at his sister’s lies and turned back to those he could actually trust. “Matt, are you good here?”
“I am if you are.” Matt glanced over his shoulder and nodded towards the firefighters behind him, each one obviously willing to help if the need happened to arise. That is, if you and the others were too much trouble for Matt and Kelly to handle alone, which they couldn’t honestly attest to just yet considering the unfamiliar grounds they were currently toeing.
Antonio nodded and stepped back towards the door. He made a show of pointing a finger between all four drunkards. “Let this be the first and last time I bring you home to the adults while I’m off shift, ladies,” he warned. “That includes you, Gabriela. Be more careful.”
“You got it, bro.”
When Antonio left, the slightest sliver of a smile on his lips caught Matt’s eyes before he disappeared around the corner. He brushed it off and returned his attention to the situation at hand. “Okay,” he said firmly, in a tone you often called his ‘lieutenant-y alderman voice’, “I think it’s time we head home.”
Your mouth fell wide open in absolute disbelief as you hung limply over Kelly’s arm. “Uh, no!”
“It’s her twenty-first birthday!” Gabby yelled, slapping Hermann’s hand when he came to see if she needed help. Hermann immediately put his palms up and turned to walk off, way too incapable of dealing with a drunk woman at a time like this.
“Don’t be such pussies!” Sylvie agreed as Cruz crossed his arms beside her.
Arms draped around Kelly, Stella’s whining joined the protests. “Let us have fuuuun!”
“Oho, you’ve clearly had enough fun,” Boden spoke up from the back around his obvious amusement, quite unexpectedly really considering he’d been quiet since at his table with Capp and Tony. At the drunk glare each of you sent his way, he conveniently turned to his drink, snickering into the glass.
“Ugh.” Sylvie put a hand to her head. “I need air. Can you guys—”
With a strength most unbefitting of someone who’d stumbled into the pub not long ago, you finally escaped Kelly’s hold with a loud: “coming!”
Concern filled each member of firehouse 51′s gaze as the four of you clambered out of Molly’s. Once the doors shut and the muffled sound of loud laughter filled the tense silence of the pub, Kelly turned to the crowd, the first fragment of apprehension appearing on his face. “Should someone go with them?”
Outside, you, Stella, Gabby and Sylvie were in utter hysterics for reasons entirely against what one might assume, had they been in your presence for the past five minutes.
“I can’t believe—” Gabby was bent over from the exertion of her laughter, one hand on her knee and the other grabbing onto Sylvie for support— “you sure you’ve never been drunk before?”
You pressed your lips together in an attempt to keep from bursting once again. “I’m just a seriously good actor,” you said, then lost the battle and snorted.
Sylvie rubbed at her eyes, wiping away the tears. “Did you see the guys’ faces?”
“Never mind their faces,” Stella gasped, leaning against a lamppost for support. “Did you see Kelly when you went for his beer? Aw, man. This is exactly what we needed.”
You held up a finger. “This is exactly the payback we needed,” you amended. “They better never put toothpaste in my oreos again.”
“And in the donuts,” Stella added. “No one messes with a firefighter’s breakfast donuts.”
“They know what’ll happen if they put clear nail varnish on my soap bar again,” Gabby said.
“And if they ever put a live spider on the kitchen counter again...” Sylvie let the threat hang in the air just as you all burst into laughter once more. It had, of course, been a ruse. A clever one at that. If the guys had truly believed they could get away with pranking the four of you on April Fool’s Day without some sort of retribution, even if it came a few weeks later, then most sane people would be urging them to retake their mental fitness exam. You had been pondering over it for multiple shifts, figuring out what would draw the best reactions from the guys, and had eventually dwindled it down to this with great, great satisfaction. Because what could possibly boil a guy’s blood more than seeing their little girl completely, utterly intoxicated? And what could possibly feel better than having the guys dote on you the next morning while you ‘recovered’ from your ‘hangover’?
“I just can’t believe you actually got my brother in on it too,” Gabby admitted. She slung an arm around your shoulders and drew you into a side-hug. “He’s such a spoilsport, he would’ve turned me down immediately.”
You shrugged. “I told you I had a special charm.”
“He should’ve stayed for a drink,” Stella said.
Gabby scoffed. “Oh, that guy can’t play a prank to save his life. He left so he didn’t burst into laughter and give it away.” She suddenly swayed, her cheeks puffing up as the world’s orbit seemed to become that bit more obvious. “Ooh. Okay, I know we didn’t have that much to drink…”
“But we still drank,” Sylvie finished, swallowing down a thickness in her throat, “yep. I feel it too.”
You were standing pretty on two drinks, one from each of the pubs you’d pitifully crawled past before the anticipation of your prank to come had dulled your appetite for wine. Gabby, Stella (especially Stella) and Sylvie had obviously drank more in those two pubs, hence why their dramatics weren’t entirely dramatics, but you had based your performance entirely on the notes you’d mentally taken over the past years as you watched drunk men enter and leave Molly’s.
“Oh, oh, shit, abort,” Gabby hissed. You turned to see movement at the door. At the sound of it swinging open as Matt, Kelly and Cruz came out, supposedly to take you home, you put those notes to good use once more.
“Gabby! Stel! Sylvieeee!” you whined, hanging onto the others. “Why can’t I have a baby koala?”
“I’m gonna puke again!” Sylvie shrieked.
“I literally might faint,” Stella said airily, a hand against her forehead.
Gabby pretended to collapse. “My head feels like a construction zone!”
The guys, including Kelly, looked horrified, well aware they were in for a night and a half.
Payback was sweet.
Fic title: So Now Who's Been Doing A Little Drinking?
Brettsey
It's three in the morning when Sylvie is woken up by some loud clattering noises and a string of loud curse words. She briefly panics, thinking that maybe a burglar had somehow bypassed their alarm system but when she glances at Matt's side of the bed to find it hasn't been slept on, she realizes he must just be coming home from his bachelor's party.
Since he hadn't been around to throw Severide's, the latter promised him one for the ages and as Sylvie slips out of bed, she thinks the Squad Lieutenant must have come through.
She pads downstairs to find Matt being held up by Gallo and Ritter. His eyes were half closed and he seemed to be singing a song that was vaguely familiar to her. Once she's closer to them, she pieces it together - it's 22 by Taylor Swift. She lets out a snort of laughter and the three men look up at her.
Matt's eyes widen as he tries to stumble out of Gallo and Ritters arms, opening his own widely, grinning goofily at Sylvie.
"Hey, baby," he greets, slurring his words, still smiling at her.
Sylvie lets out another peel of laughter, that is, until Matt's foot gets caught on the rug and she barely manages to break his fall, looping her arms around his waist and grunting as she tried to help him up.
Gall and Ritter rush towards her but she waves them off, telling him she could handle her fiancé. Guess all those strength training classes she took did come in handy.
They bid her good night, both looking a bit sheepish but she tells them it's okay. She had her own bachelorette party last weekend and she definitely came home a bit tipsy, still in the plastic tiara and sash Violet made her wear. She even remembers telling Matt how much she loved him every five seconds until she fell asleep on the kitchen counter while he was making her a cup of tea.
"Come on, babe, let's get you to bed," she says gently, guiding him slowly towards the stairs and up the steps one by one.
He doesn't say a word until they reach the second floor landing and Sylvie steers him towards their bedroom.
"You just want to have your way with me," he states, smirking at her, "but I don't mind."
Sylvie chuckles. It was rare to see Matt drunk and she was quite enjoying this side of him.
"Have my way with you, huh?" Sylvie replies as she turns to face him, raising an eyebrow, trailing a hand across his chest. She chuckles when she notices his reaction. He might be a little drunk but behind the haze of the alcohol, Sylvie thinks she can see how his eyes have darkened. She shakes her head, "so, who's been doing a little drinking now?"
She opens the door to their room and once they're inside, she moves to the dresser to fetch him some clothes to change into. She doesn't get far though because he encircles her wrist and pulls her back to him. With surprising agility, he pins her down onto the bed and Sylvie lets out a loud yelp in surprise. She didn't expect his reflexes to kick in like that with the amount of alcohol he seemed to have drank.
"Or maybe I'll have my way with you," he whispers in her ear, nipping at her ear lobe before his mouth begins to trail, hot kisses along her jaw then her neck.
Sylvie moans, arching her back as she feels his hand slips beneath her pajama top, moving up from her stomach to her chest.
Jesus Christ, even if he was drunk, he was still very good at pushing all her buttons.
She finds his own shirt, trying to pull it above his head but then loud snores begin to fill the air. She's confused at first until she takes a peek at Matt. His face was buried against her neck, his eyes closed, breathing even, lips slightly parted as he continued to snore.
She lets out a low grunt, rolling her eyes. Of course the alcohol had taken over completely and he fell asleep almost as soon as they hit the bed. She slowly rolls him over until he's lying on his back. They'd have to continue this some other time. She smoothes down his hair, gazing at his peaceful face. She grabs the blanket, tucking him in and kissing his forehead before leaving the room to get a bottle of aspirin and some water, which Matt will surely need in the morning.
When Matt wakes up, the sun is shining a little too brightly for his liking and he groans loudly. It was like there was a loud pounding in his head and as he looks around, he tries to piece back the night before. It was his bachelor's party and he may have gotten drunk on some frilly drink that had those paper umbrella garnishes on them. He glances at Sylvie's side of the bed to find it empty. He looks around for his phone to find it on the nightstand next to a bottle of aspirin and a glass of water. He smiles as he chugs the water, popping a pill for good measure. Sylvie was really thoughtful. He's sure he didn't get to bed by himself as he continues to recall bits of last night in his head.
He makes his way to the kitchen to find Sylvie making breakfast. There's the smell of bacon grease that makes his stomach grumble. He slides behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek in greeting.
"Good morning," he says.
Sylvie turns to face him, grinning, "morning, sleeping beauty, how'd you sleep?"
"Not too bad considering how much I had to drink," Matt remarks, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Sylvie smirks at him, "oh, I know. I heard you singing the lines 'happy, free, confused and lonely in the best way'. It made my year."
Matt groans, hanging his head. Now that Sylvie mentioned it, he vaguely remembers himself doing that. He blames it on that blasted song playing at the last place they went to before Gallo and Ritter brought him home.
As Sylvie continues to tease him about it, cracking eggs into a pan, something else dawns on him. He reaches towards the stove, turning the burners off and Sylvie glances at him, a puzzled expression crossing her face.
"I distinctly remember saying something about having my way with you," he mentions lowly, his eyes trailing from her face down to her pajama shorts.
Sylvie lets out a squeal when he carries her bridal style back into the bedroom, laughing as they went.
Breakfast could always wait.
Close Call- Kelly Severide/Matt Casey
Summary: While recovering from a concussion, you go with Matt on an alderman run. When things go sideways, Kelly comes to the rescue.
Warnings: SPOILERS FOR 05x04, vomiting, cursing.
Authors note: THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT! I’ve been pretty sick recently, but I figured I would post given that YOU GUYS got one of MY fics to 400! I know that’s not a lot on this site, but it’s a lot to me and I am MORE than grateful for the support and love that you guys show me.
~~~~~~~~~~~
You had gone with Matt to check out the warehouse. Kelly was on shift today, but you had been recovering from a concussion and decided to just tag along with Matt to get out of the apartment. Matt didn’t fight you on your decision, seeing as it was just suppose to be a quick inspection.
When the acid tank was punctured, Matt quickly pushed you into the break room. The man on the forklift didn’t make it and the owner was suppose to make it outside to call for help. When Matt pushed you in, you tripped and hit your head on the way down. Once Matt turned around to check on you after packing the crack under the door, he realized that you were out cold.
“Shit.” Matt muttered. He quickly made his way to your head, checking your pulse before trying to wake you up. “Baby. Baby. Please open your eyes.” Matt called, rubbing your sternum to wake you up. With a sigh of relief, Matt watched as your eyes fluttered open.
You groaned and reached for your head. Your vision was slightly blurry and you were a little confused. “Matt?” You slurred. “Wha?” You were trying to get your bearings as you glanced around the room.
“Eyes up here baby.” Matt called, coming closer. “Bright light.” Matt only gave that warning before checking your pupils with the flash light on his phone. Once he was satisfied that you probably just aggravated the previous concussion, Matt pulled you off the floor and sat you on one of the tables. “You know where you are?” Matt asked, keeping one hand on you and searching for a cell signal with the other.
“We came to a warehouse.” You muttered, pulling your knees up and resting your head on them before popping up with a gasp. “Holy shit Matt. The acid.” You looked around wildly, almost like you expected to see the walls melting around you.
“I know baby, but I’m gonna get us out of here.” Matt soothed. “Just stay here for a second.” Matt said, planting a kiss on your forehead before pushing a table to the door to look out the window over it. He had his phone in his hand, also hoping to get a signal. Luckily, he got just enough to send a text to Kelly.
MAYDAY.
——————————————
One thing that Kelly was now grateful for was the location app that he shared with you and Matt. As soon as the Mayday came through, Kelly had Boden put out a distress call and send practically everyone to you and Matt. When he couldn’t raise either one of you on the phone after he received the text, Kelly knew you were both in danger.
——————————————-
“Matt?” You whispered just loud enough to get his attention.
“Yeah sweetheart?” Matt muttered, not bothering to look at you while he continued to scavenge for anything to keep you both alive.
“I don’t feel well.” You whispered, punctuating the sentence with a cough.
Matt turned around, eyes growing wide as he noticed the fumes coming in from a vent close to the table you were sat on. “Shit. Baby, come here.” Matt rushed out, grabbing you and carrying you to the other side of the room. Matt quickly went and taped the vent shut using some masking tape he found in a locker. It wouldn’t do much, but it would buy you guys enough time for the crew to come rescue you.
You laid back on the table, curling to the side as the room spun and your stomach churned. You felt hot and lightheaded. You weren’t sure if it was due to the concussion, panic, breathing in those fumes, or all of the above.
When Matt turned back to you again, he was growing increasingly worried. You were so pale. Matt ran back to you, sitting on a chair and taking your hand in his, rubbing the back with the pad of his thumb. “Talk to me. What’s going on?” Matt asked, running a hand through your hair.
“Hot. Dizzy. Nauseous.” You explained. Short and to the point in fear of throwing up all over your boyfriend.
Matt hummed and leaned in to kiss your forehead. “Hang on for me baby.” Matt whispered, giving your hand one last squeeze before he moved to the wall next to you, spotting a pipe in the wall that led to the next room.
“Don’t plan on going anywhere.” You whispered, curling into yourself further.
Just as Matt got the pipe out of the wall, a door in the next room slammed open. “MATT!” Kelly screamed, running into the room.
Matt could just see him through the hole the pipe left. “Kelly!” Matt yelled back, drawing Kelly’s attention to the small hole. “Y/n tagged along. She’s not feeling so hot.” Matt rushed. “You gotta get her out of here.”
“I’ll get you both out.” Kelly said, making it sound like a promise that he would never break.
Matt was satisfied and made his way back over to you while Squad worked their way into the room. Matt kept you covered from the debris and made sure you stayed awake. You were extremely tired, drifting in and out of awareness.
As soon as the hole was big enough, Matt scooped you up and helped you through to Kelly’s awaiting arms. You immediately snuggled into his turnout, seeking comfort in the smell of Kelly that wafted from the coat.
“I got you hunny.” Kelly whispered, kissing the top of your head.
“Get her out of here.” Matt yelled, climbing through the hole himself. “I’m right behind you.”
Kelly didn’t wait any longer. He strode outside with you securely in his arms. He was puzzled when you scrambled to get out of his hold as soon as the sunlight hit your face.
Stumbling a few feet away, you bent over, bracing your hands on your knees, and puked violently. Kelly was quick to catch up, holding you by the waist so that you wouldn’t fall down.
“Dawson, I need you and Brett around back. Y/N is really messed up.” Kelly called through his radio. “Bring a few sick bags and some fluids.”
“Copy.” Dawson shot back a second later.
Matt came up behind you and Kelly, reaching a hesitant hand out to your back. Now that he was out and you were safe, Matt was feeling a bit sick himself.
Kelly looked over at Matt when he saw how hesitant his hand was as he reached for you. Kelly could see that Matt was pale and shaking. “Case?” Kelly called, reaching a hand out to Matt.
This seemed to snap something in Matt, who turned and doubled over to vomit on the ground to Kelly’s right. Matt groaned, trying to get himself together as he slightly staggered back into Kelly’s hip as Kelly attempted to support both you and Matt.
“What the fuck?” Dawson called, running with Brett, stretcher packed with a go bag and a few other items on it.
“I don’t know.” Kelly called. “Can you help Matt please?” He asked, practically holding your weight in one arm.
Dawson was quick to nod, switching with Kelly to hold Matt steady and rub his back while the vomiting passed. Dawson and Kelly were sure this was pure adrenaline, but they were also worried about Matt passing out. Dawson held Matt by the hips, pressing him into her side to keep him balanced while she rubbed his back in an attempt to comfort him as he heaved.
Kelly had you by both hips. He was contemplating lowering you to the ground when Brett popped up next to his shoulder.
“Here.” She called, handing Kelly a sick bag for you. “Get this under her chin and lift her onto the stretcher. We gotta get her to the ambo and get her checked out.”
Kelly nodded and took the bag. “Baby.” Kelly called. “Try to breathe for me. I’ve got a sick bag here. We gotta get you loaded up. Can you take this for me so I can pick you up?” Kelly asked, rubbing your right arm as he watched you shake and spasm with every heave.
As a reply, you reached out for the bag and sucked in a huge breath so that you could place it under your chin. Once you had it secure, you put an arm around Kelly’s neck and allowed him to lift you onto the stretcher. “Ma- hurk” you tried to call for your other boyfriend, but a heave cut you off.
Kelly shushed you, pushing your hair further away from your face. “Dawson has him.” Kelly murmured, glancing in their direction. “He’s catching his breath. He’s okay.” Kelly told you sincerely, kissing your forehead. “Let’s worry about you.”
Kelly helped Brett push you to the ambo and load you up while the rest of the crew worked on cleaning up the spill. Everyone gave their lieutenants some privacy and kept their heads in the game. Matt wasn’t far behind the stretcher, finally having caught his breath and feeling able to take a few steps without Gabbi’s help.
“She hit her head again.” Matt called out, climbing into the back of the ambo with you, Kelly, and Brett. Gabbi closed the doors and got into the drivers seat. She called Med before pulling away from the scene.
Brett did a full concussion exam and ran your vitals on the way to med. Kelly helped Matt clean up and held your hand. Somewhere along the way, you finally stopped vomiting, but you weren’t able to focus on them, which scared both of your lovers half to death.
Upon arrival, Connor and Natalie took you in with April and Maggie. The four of them did a quick work up while Will checked Matt over in the next room. Once they got you on some more fluids and some electrolytes, you finally started coming around. Matt was the first one you saw when you opened your eyes.
“Close call?” You asked, looking at the tears in his eyes.
“Too close.” Matt whispered, kissing your head.
“Never again.” Kelly whispered, drawing your attention to him, now noticing that he was clutching your hand, still in his turnouts with a tear stained face.

she's her daddy's girl, her momma's world - chapter 25
Tumblr media
short, sweet snippets
a few short but sweet snippets about Maya and the Severide family from my 200 followers celebration over on tumblr.
Notes: I know this is short, and if you follow me on tumblr you've seen them before, but motivation and inspiration have been hard to find. I'm hoping life calms down a little bit and I can get back to writing for Maya because man I love this kid. Please let me know which of these prompts you want me to expand on first, because most of these are spoilers for possible future one-shots.
Read on AO3 or below:
Prompt: A family outing of Stella, Kelly and Maya to the cabin. from @ducibarros
“The forecast said it was supposed to be sunny,” Stella grumbled from her spot at the window.
She was right. They’d been checking the forecast religiously in the days leading up to their trip. Not once was rain ever mentioned but here they were, stuck inside the cabin as a thunderstorm rolled through with no end in sight.
It was Maya’s first trip to the cabin, something Stella and Kelly had been planning for months, practically since the day she was born. Benny’s old cabin held amazing memories for Stella and Kelly, interrupted honeymoon aside, and they had been waiting for the day they could bring Maya.
Stella had the weekend all planned out. Then the rain came and threatened to ruin it all.
Kelly walked over to Stella and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her back against his chest.
“I know,” Kelly said gently. “But this weekend will still be fun.”
“It’s Maya’s first time at the cabin. It was supposed to be perfect.” Stella argued sadly.
Kelly chuckled and placed a kiss on Stella’s head. “It still can be. Sure, we might not be able to go outside, but we can still make this a memorable weekend.”
                                                … … …
Prompt: "we can't risk it" from @wine-and-fics
Stella sat in her car outside the station, talking to Kelly on FaceTime. She watched as First shift made their way to their cars as Second shift started to trickle in. It was her first shift back after taking several off to be with Kelly as he recovered from his most recent near-death experience.
That had been over a month ago. Kelly was back home with her and Maya, on the mend, and their family was together again.
This hadn’t been the first close call since they became parents…but it was the first one since learning their family of three was soon to become a family of four.
When Stella was pregnant with Maya, they waited a little while to tell everyone. This time, though, Stella had found out the day Kelly got hurt, making the realities of their job smack Stella in the face. They couldn’t wait this time. Should something happen, they’d need the support of their friends and team.
“I’m telling Boden, and the others, today,” Stella told Kelly over the phone.
“Are you sure?” Kelly asked.
“We can’t risk it,” Stella declared. “With our jobs and the risks we face every day, after what happened to you? They need to know.”
                                                … … …
Prompt: comparing hand sizes, then linking fingers together for Stella and Maya from @princess-olaf
It was a quiet morning in the Severide household. Kelly had left early that morning to meet the newest round of Academy recruits and Maya had found herself climbing into her parents’ bed.
Eyes closed, Stella smiled as she felt the bed move. As Maya got closer, Stella moved the blankets back so Maya could crawl under. Hoping to get a few more minutes of sleep, Stella cuddled Maya closer with one arm across her little body.
Maya wasn’t in the mood to go back to sleep but the 4-year-old was content with cuddles. She played with Stella’s hand and her fingers, eventually pressing her own palm against Stella’s to compare their sizes.
Stella had given up on sleeping and watched Maya’s ministrations with a soft smile. “You know, when you were a baby, your hand use to be so small that the whole thing fit right here.” Stella traced a circle around the middle of her palm.
“Really?”
Stella nodded. “Really really. And now, you’re a big girl, and we can do this!”
Keeping Maya’s hand in position, Stella curled her fingers and linked her and Maya’s hands together. Maya looked from their joined hands to her mom and smiled a big, toothy grin.
                                                   … … …
Prompt: “It’s bedtime Maya” from @lady-rhaesnow
“It’s bedtime Maya.”
Maya looked up from where she was lying on the couch, teddy bear tucked under her arm, to stare at Kelly. “I not tired daddy.”
Kelly smirked and raised an eyebrow. The little girl had been struggling to stay awake for the last fifteen minutes as the movie ended. Even now, she fought against her heavy lids. Kelly walked over and sat next to her on the couch. He ran his fingers through her hair and Maya’s eyes got even heavier. “I think you are tired,” he said gently.
“Mommy’s not home yet,” Maya mumbled quietly. The now undeniable exhaustion in her voice added a small whine to her words.
“I know baby. She had to help Uncle Herrmann at Molly’s a little later tonight,” Kelly said gently, his fingers still combing through Maya’s soft curls. “But she’ll be here when you wake up in the morning, okay?”
Maya nodded, her eyes barely open, and raised her arms towards her daddy. Kelly chuckled and picked Maya up, hugging her close as he steered them towards her room.
Maya buried her head in Kelly’s neck. “Can we read a story?”
“Yeah, baby girl, we can read a story.”

Brettsey fic name - dogs are man's best friend
I'd write about how Sylvie and Matt's preparation for kids.
One night while they're laying in bed and waiting for sleep to take over, he's spooning her from behind and they're talking about everything and nothing. Suddenly, they somehow get on the topic of kids. They're no strangers to each other's preferences; they both know they want kids - multiple, not just one. He asks her when she wants to start practicing and she laughs and turns around in his arms. She gives him a very soft, sensual, and loving kiss, one that takes his breath away. "We could start right now if you want to."
They end up telling Stella and Severide that they've started trying to get pregnant and they're both so excited for the couple. What ends up being a talk about books to prepare for anything and everything turns into a question about babysitting their friend's puppy for a couple weeks.
Sylvie and Matt end up agreeing to babysit Stella's friend's puppy for a couple weeks and they use the time with the puppy to get ready for parenthood.
The puppy is only two months old and isn't potty trained. They're practically running around with the puppy, trying to contain her excitement by playing with it, trying to potty train her and wipe up any accidents, and trying to get her to stop chewing their shoes.
One night, when Matt and Sylvie are about to fall asleep, Matt asks her, "Is this what the terrible twos are like?"
Sylvie laughs and snuggles further into his arms. "I doubt our baby will pee on the plant pots outside and start howling at a passing firetruck."
The dog ends up obeying Matt more than Sylvie; she walks next to Matt on walks and goes to him for scratches on the couch. When Matt scolds her, the dog is quick to look sad and tries licking his face in apology. When they play with the dog and throw around some toys, the dog always goes to Matt to throw them again.
At night, Sylvie tells him, "This is exactly how our baby will be."
"What do you mean?" he asks curiously.
"We're going to have a girl and she's going to be wrapped around daddy's little finger. You're going to spoil her to no end and you're always going say 'yes' when you should be saying 'no'."
Matt chuckles and kisses his wife. "I won't spoil her."
In a year and a half, Sylvie is right. Their bundle of joy is a girl and she's already wrapping her fingers around Matt's singular one. He's bouncing her around in the nursery with a singsong baby voice and a loving grin on his face. He's utterly taken by her and Sylvie endlessly teases him for being right.
send me a made-up fic title and i’ll tell you what i would write to go with it
