Project Update 1 (Shelly Dancer + Brawl Pass Variants)
Tumblr media
First Update, woo-hoo! Decided to start with Shelly Dancer, and I'm pretty proud of what I've got so far. The design is based on a classical Indian dance called Bharatanatyam! I also changed the Weapon because I wasn't sure if a magic lamp would suit this anymore; I instead based the weapon on tea kettles there. I'm not the best at designing weapons, but I liked what I did.
I did have to simplify parts of the design since I tried to make it still look like it was worth the amount the skin is priced at, and it looked like an epic skin. I also did that, so animating it wouldn't be painful to do.
Again, all feedback is appreciated since I wanna make sure I did this correctly before I move on to the next step.

A Shade Darker Than Red: just some Paro and Renu fluff<3
“Paro, have you ever seen this much rain?” I yelled over the grumbling thunder.
Paro ran, trying to keep up with me. “Get back under the umbrella, Renu!” she cried. “You’ll catch a cold!”
“So what?” I yelled back, skipping ahead of her.
Paro grabbed my hoodie, tugging me towards her. “Renu I’m telling you, Bhairavi auntie will have my head.”
I wriggled out of her grasp. “Oh, dammit Paro, loosen up!”
Paro adjusted her umbrella, glaring at me. “And how does one ‘loosen up’?”
I grabbed her hand and crossed the road, ducking into an alleyway. “You’ve never danced in the rain, have you?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“So what if I haven’t?”
I grinned. “You will, now!”
Paro’s eyes widened and before she could protest, I snatched the umbrella away from her, leaning it against the walls of the alleyway.
“Come on!” I yelled as lightning flashed across the sky, like a seam ripped apart in a lady’s blue nightdress.
Paro cursed loudly and somehow followed my lead as I grabbed her hand and, positioning my body parallel to hers, outstretched our hands together and lifted a leg, jumping a few steps forward and going back again. “This, Paro, is how you ‘loosen up’!” I said, stepping into a puddle and spraying mud all over her jeans.
Paro laughed despite herself and I chuckled, tearing my hands away from hers and spinning myself around. Paro clapped and laughed, the sound music to my ears.
Raindrops dripped from her soaked hair and travelled down her jawline, slithering onto her collarbone. It stayed there for a while before going further down as I tore my eyes away from where they shouldn’t be lingering.
“This is fun!” Paro chuckled, pulling me into a hug as thunder rumbled overhead and the sound of rain grew louder in my ears. “But, Renu, we really need to get home now.”
I pouted, looking up at her. “Do we, really?”
Paro smiled. “We do, Renu,” she said, her voice so soft yet one that I could hear over all the thunder and lightning. “They usually use this route.” Her eyes lingered on my scar.
“Are you scared?” I teased.
Paro scoffed. “Me? Scared of them?”
“Then?”
“They should be scared of me. Bharatanatyam girls go through a lot, actually. We can easily beat anyone up. Especially if you mess with our best friend.”
I grinned and buried my face in the crook of her soaked neck as she opened the umbrella. “You’re amazing, Paro. But did we really have to leave when the fun was just starting?”
“Oh, come on, Renu, stop being so pouty,” Paro said, trying to be gruff. A snort escaped her when she saw my droopy eyelids. “Just a second ago you were dancing—if that’s called dancing—and now you look like you could fall asleep right here.”
“I could,” I said, raising my head and rubbing my eyes. “Neelam ma’am’s endless lectures on spherical mirrors may have broken my last braincell.”
Paro laughed, nodding. “Relatable. Now let’s get you home, sleepy sunshine.”
I grinned, checking whether the pen was still tucked behind my ear. It was going to have a lot of lines to write when we got home: about how today I made Paro, the best dancer I’d ever known, dance in the rain for the first time.
It was what my ten-year-old brain would have identified as the best day ever for an essay—but then, I would have a lot of better days to come. Everyday with Paro was a better day. And we would have enough of that.
We would have days, weeks, months and years to spend together, to dance in the rain and have tickle fights.
I sighed contentedly, running my hand over my scar as Paro and I walked over to the bus stand.
We had time.

South Indian cinema: Part 1
I think we (I) don't talk enough about my obsession with the South Indian film industry. I'm less of a star or fame powered fangirl and most of my obsessions start from very niche observations and qualities. Both me and my mom are good cinema enthusiasts, that being said, we love not just watching movies but also analyze them and talk about them in great lengths and detail; and it isn't always just about the actors but also the scenes, the cinematography, the dialogues and so on. We enjoy a good story based cinema that's more about carrying the characters in place and action than about how much hype a movie gets. I enjoy old movies, including monochrome movies of the yesteryears and the faded coloured classics of the 70's and 80's.
Let me go from one obsession to other. First, comes my unexplainable obsession with actors who are also trained dancers. That's a sexy characteristic because it adds an edge to the actor's identity over being just a movie star and IMHO, it also refines the depth of character and acting skills (many talented actors who aren't dancers do exist, this is just my view). I have this captivation with dancers because something in them, be it the unseeable depth of efforts and practice and hurdles they cross before they set foot on the stage or be it the inordinate amount of beauty they express and portray in both costumes and jewelry or be it the grace with which they carry themselves or be it the way the fluidity, fragility and fierceness of dance entwines with their soul and body making it indistinguishable, obvious and redefines their identity and adds meaning to their character for the better. Irrespective of gender, classical dance forms in my opinion, have a profound effect on the individual and somehow makes them all the more charming to me because it's art that flows in their body and art has that unique fragrance to which you can never turn a blind eye to. It also anchors you down to your inner zen because gender conforms and norms are all broken (atleast in Indian classical dances) as both male and female dancers play either roles in dances and it's all the more about expression and emotion than the role per se. And that I think is a very liberating thing and I love Indian classical dances for it.
So here goes the list: Kamal Haasan is a trained Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancer; the best of which is seen in his performance in the movie Sagara Sangamam which is a majorly dance based movie. My most favorite scene is when he humbles Sailaja when she opposes his critique. Padmini, one of the famous Travancore sisters, was a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and in her retired days also opened a dance school and taught abroad. Shobana, one of my favorite actresses, who is also the niece of the Travancore sisters is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer; she also received a national award for her performance in the Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu which was the original for the famous Chandramukhi, Bhool Bhulaiya, Nagavalli, Aatmamitra etc. I rate her acting top notch because her expressions and her eyes often speak way more than the dialogues. Revathi, is again a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and has delivered multiple box office hits and is also one of my favorite actresses. Bhanupriya, who's pretty famous in tamil and telugu cinema, is a trained Kuchipudi dancer and appeared in the film Sitaara which went on to win the National award for that year. Jayalalitha, apart from her successful political career was a leading film actress in the tamil industry. She was trained dancer of multiple forms like Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Kathak etc. Sukanya, who famously starred against Kamal Haasan in Indian, is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. Prabhu Deva, who we all know as the Michael Jackson of India, is a trained Bharatanatyam and Udupi dancer. Amala Akkineni, is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and also has a degree bachelor degree for the same from Kalakshetra. Vineeth, who works mostly in tamil, telugu and malayalam films is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer; lesser known but he's Shobana's cousin and Padmini's nephew from her husband's side. Asin, who is well known for her role in Ghajini, is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. Jayam Ravi, now well known as the Ponniyin Selvan after the famous novel adaptation, is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer.
This is in my list (can't think more, brain fried) do feel free to add more. Tagging @sister-of-satan @voidsteffy and @bipdf because I think y'all will enjoy reading this
Do reblog and tag people who'd enjoy reading this

Wash away your concerns, sakhi, my lover is all true to me in every way.
I have been made truly happy. No pretense he hides under his actions nor does he play with words to win my heart. Must you worry now?
A moment away from him feels like an eternity away from him. As I sit here, I am reminded of his tender touches when he soothes me during upsetting nights.
I blush under his playful gaze when he twirls the ends of my scarf. There is joy with him and around him. I no longer think what will people say when I laugh unbashedly with him in public.
Often I wonder when have I ever been this happy before. My dearest companion, abandon your doubts away, I have found a worthy partner.

Shit I forgot what this nayika means for non dancers. So this nayika (even though it is mentioned in the header) this nayika has a lover who is completely faithful to her. There are examples of padams or in simple words if you pick out ancient Indian poetry you will see examples of poems where the female is talking about her lover to a friend saying how he makes her happy and praises his good qualities similar to what even happens now just that we dance and show it

Breaking boundaries : Exploring the fusion of the blend of Western and traditional dance.
Tumblr media
The art of Indian dance has always been found through traditional techniques from the late olden classical times of India. Traditional techniques such as kathak and Bharatanatyam. The creation of these forms of dance was remarkable in Indian dance history. The techniques of the movements, expressions, and unique gestures of dancing made the Indian traditional dance more authentic.
Later, western dance also took place in India. However the reach for modern dance was not much bearable for India in the early times of its development.
Evolution of Western dance through the traditional influence.
During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the formation of the Bollywood dancing style began to take place in India with the introduction of western forms of dance like hip hop, jazz and contemporary was ready to hold the dance floors of Indian dance history. Many people's dedication towards bringing a zone for Western dance in India had helped us to reach today's dance system. The choreographers, technicians, and other creators were engaged in their hard work to raise a position for Western dance in India in the world of dance history. The brilliants of the many choreographers whose dedication and their ideas of creating dancing styles through the mixture of classical dance with the blend of Western style made to create a unique Bollywood dancing style for the film industries. Now in modern times both traditional techniques as well as the Western-style techniques are equally given importance by every dance lover in India.

You know I adore everything about bharatanatyam. You may play any classical song and I will end up doing bharatanatyam but when I hear songs used in the odissi repertoire, it fills my heart with devotion and makes me feel something different. The abhinaya to the song makes me feel as if I am the character itself and I am not me. I am nothing. That song fills my heart and soul and I see myself dancing in front of Jagganatha in puri.
Now now this isn't romanticizing the maharis culture of odisha about dancing in front of jagganatha. Before things turn bad, maharis and devadasis were considered noble and their profession was respected. Also there were many kinds of temple dancers like some chose to willingly become a temple dancer while sometimes the king would send one of his best dancers In service of the temples. Some even turned into ganikas and taught the princesses.
But classical dance no matter what form, it has always been a devotional dance to the God and the shringara pieces dedicated to any god was also devotional.
Each time I watch Ahe nila saila performed by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, I feel as if am one with Jagganatha and Yadunandana makes me go all berserk for Krishna
