Nightpaw doesn’t have the greatest luck with the Clangen rng, so to celebrate, I thought we’d test her luck here on Tumblr, since you guys seem to enjoy her! I’ve rigged up a little game for you all…

To play is simple:

To throw a ball at ms. Nightpaw, comment a number from 1 to 8 (can include 1 or 8)(You are allowed to leave several comments). Depending on the number, the throw may be a hit (something bad happens to her [silly mischievous bad, not actually canon traumatizing bad]), or it may be a miss (something good happens to her). There are 4 possible hits and 4 possible misses… so ms. Nightpaw may get all hits OR all misses…who could say.

For the next four days, starting tomorrow, I’ll randomly pick one of your comments, and draw whatever shenanigan it entails…

Moon 66-Leaf-fall

Caterpillarpaw (16) has finally become a full Healer, with the name Caterpillarmallow, honoring her boundless energy and courage. Meanwhile, Brightfalcon (109) has been developing a bit of a crush on Darkpetal (105). She even left a little petal in his nest. Antlersky (23) and Rosemaryquake (23) have also been spending more time together, and take some time to share tongues after eating. Bird (95) has been getting to know Sunpaw (8) and has taken her under his wing, as he knows what it’s like to be powerless in a Clan full of powerful cats. Yuccastar (45) is glad that things are going smoothly so far in her reign. She only hopes that they continue to do so as leaf-bare approaches. However, a bit of tension is brewing between Peakspots (34) and Bushmask (76). He’s not thrilled about such a young warrior being made deputy, and she’s worried that he isn’t listening to her when she organizes patrols. While on a patrol, Rindlefish (67), Antlersky, and Darkpetal come across a cat. . .who’s glowing. It’s a star-blessed kittypet! Who wants to join the Clan?? And is very powerful??? This is rare. Very rare. Her name is Judaschaser (87), and she is excited to be there after her twolegs abandoned her. She’s thrilled to meet other cats with magic, especially another cat who has light magic, but is a little confused by how weak Yuccastar’s glow is. For her part, Yuccastar is worried about the stability of her place as leader and feels a bit. . .outshone. Peakspots wonders if Judaschaser will become deputy instead of her. Maybe she’d be better at it?

I was looking through my August 2022 version of Clangen (the memories~) and wow I had forgotten how big the families used to get. I believe this ⬆️ is the biggest family I have, period.

Although, despite how ridiculously huge this family is, I love Honeystar. No. 1 favourite gay, evil leader*.

A time to start anew.

(tw for blood, violence, and implied death)

“Cliffpaw, grab the kits and run--!”

A small red tom woke with a start, fear and adrenaline filling his veins as the thick stench of blood filled his senses. The lone apprentice of ▇▇Clan doesn’t even take the time to stand properly, bolting immediately from his nest and sending its contents scattered behind him. He barely has a moment to parse the camp in front of him before whirling on his paws and angling left to the nursery; he couldn’t count how many cats had already fallen, but against such a massive enemy the tom knew instinctively they stood no chance either way.

Misfortune had followed a patrol home; a patrol of young wolves out for a hunt. The packs northward had been growing larger over the past seasons-- more pups meant more prey which needed to be killed. Though predators themselves, Cliffpaw knew it was foolish to believe cats weren’t also prey in their own right.

“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon! Let’s get going!” a kit nearly his own size shoved his way past ▇▇▇▇, a smaller she-kit following behind with what could only be a moon-old kit in her jaws.

“Head to the tunnels!” ▇▇▇▇ shouted over their shoulder, just barely audible against the snarling and barking of wolves.

Giving himself a firm nod, Cliffpaw overtakes the eldest kit and begins to pick up the pace. “Follow me-- I can lead us somewhere no wolf can find.” He hoped. He’d only been there once, two moons prior the beginning of his apprenticeship with Magpiestar; The Moonlit Caverns. A place where those blessed with the ability to do so commune with their ancestors, sacred and protected.

A small dip beneath a stone obscured by plants Cliffpaw never learned the name of marking an emergency tunnel into the system below -- it was narrow, and not well-maintained but it would have to do. A shriek sounds from behind him, shrill with terror. “AMBERKIT!” Cliffpaw hears the tomkit shout as his eyes meet the dark stare of a wolf whose jaws clamped around the tail of the white and grey tabby she-kit.

“Take the little one and through that hole and RUN-” Cliffpaw orders, hoping his few moons of training would be enough to save Amberkit and get out of there before the wolf could get a worse hold. Without hesitation, he lunges forward and latches to the large hounds face, teeth fighting for a grip against its massive forehead.

He looks down at the wolf, eyes black and hollow, and then further down at Amberkit, tiny and helpless within its jaws. His paw begins to slip when an idea strikes him. Leaning into the weight, Cliffpaw scores his left-front paw down the wolf’s left eye and landing with a thud when it pulls itself back, a high-pitched whimper leaving its muzzle, releasing its hold on Amberkit’s tail.

His mind fights to take the moment to look across the camp while the wolf was still dazed -- were ▇▇▇▇ and ▇▇▇▇ still alive? Did they somehow escape as well? Precious seconds are wasted while Cliffpaw fights against himself, muscles tensing in indecision. A growl, deep and low is quick to make the decision for him. The red tabby surges forward, grabbing Amberkit by her scruff and forcing himself through the tunnels.

Whatever happened above, they would have to get through this together.

hiii welcome to my latest little clangen venture :3 this save, i selected a single apprentice and all the kits i could and decided to let it up to fate if they can rebuild from such a tragedy post style will probably change moon to moon while i figure out what kind of flow i like, but i hope you enjoy!

FIRST, i'm completely happy to have anyone do style studies, do a comic inspired by Dewclan in any capacity, make a clangen comic in the same style, reference poses from the comic, reference designs from the comic, layout of the comic etcetc. BE FREE BE FUNKY!! (just pls show me i wanna c) 1. A frequently asked question is, 'How did you start with just 2 cats?' The answer is, I started with a full clan and manually killed them all on the first moon! You can kill or exile cats in their profile section. :3 I play expanded mode! I downloaded the latest version of the game from here. 2. All clan names, cat names, designs and events are randomly generated, created in and by the Clangen game! BUT! • I take liberties with designs mostly just to simplify them or add fancy things, like Lyrestar's star shapes irises and the forehead star mark. i think it's C00l to give leaders star motifs. Lyre wasn't born with the star shapes, he got 'em when he became leader! • Some events are given additional flavour and context

3. BE PREPARED for style changes. I'm getting more and more used to stylizing and figuring out how i'm gonna do this comic.. Do you have any tips or recommendations for someone who wants to make their own comic based on their ClanGen save?

Hi! I answered this about a month ago when I was early on in JuniperClan. I'll cover stuff I didn't cover there, or that I've learned from experience.

Now your mileage may vary on this, but

Play the Whole Story Through

What I mean is, if your clan is going to have a story for 100 moons, play those 100 moons and take an agonizing amount of screenshots.

Not only do you know the ending, but you can hint to the ending or future events early on. You can also play around with your pacing -- If you think a character should come in a few moons early to participate in an event that would shape their character, you will have ample room to figure out how to do that without mucking up the story or making it confusing.

I'm aware of my pace, and know that JuniperClan is going to take over a year to complete, likely. That leads us to ...

Accommodate Yourself

If you don't have storytelling knowledge or are unsure if you want to tackle a huge Iliad of a cat story that could take years, just do a little 30 moon mini comic (or novella!) and see if it's to your liking.

INTERACTION

Make friends. The Clangen community is pure and untouched by most discourse. It's just people playing God with pixel cats. You don't have to be besties, but comment on your mutual's work and build up a repertoire. I remember the usernames of the people who comment on my work and I always like talking with them. I joined a Discord Server and while I am not very active it is very inspiring to see other people working on their own.

The only other thing that comes to mind is writing dialogue. If I'm alone I'll talk to myself and see if the dialogue sounds natural and genuine. I'll be driving to work and have a whole conversation from the comic repeatedly to try and get the language right for each character lmao it looks insane

I used to love doing challenges where a game would start with 1 cat and they'd have to rebuild - it was my fav challenge to do when bored

and I will admit since the new update I've been enjoying Clangen a whole lot less. Its just not possible to do those challenges anymore

I've never felt quite This frustrated playing a Clangen game in my life. I revived VaporClan by coding in a loner outside the Clan into the Clan & seeing if I could have her rebuild VaporClan as a fun little plot to see how it goes

A cat joined and died from an infection from her broken jaw. A second cat joined and actually lived long enough to become mates with my ex-loner cat here and they had 4 kits. That second cat proceeded to get yellowcough while her mate was recovering from birth - so neither could hunt.

She died from yellowcough and then her mate was grief stricken and eventually starving because she could not hunt. All 4 of the kits died in a single moon and the only reason the mother DIDNT die is because I removed her conditions in the file and coded in prey.

I got another cat to join, and 3 moons later she was killed by something that also stole half of the prey off the fresh kill pile

I like the concept of the prey update, but Surely it can be a little easier than this. If your cats are unable to patrol for any reason your Clan is basically dead. You can't even hope for kits because the time period where your cat is recovering from birth and can't hunt you could run out of prey.

I had to edit prey into the files and remove conditions 3 times to save this cats life - I Never usually edit the files when playing. I think it's safe to say this is the first Clangen update I have not liked ☹️

Hey! Just sorta asking around to my fave Clangen blogs since I'm interested in starting my own-Do you use classic mode or expanded mode? I feel like w/ classic not enough happens, and with expanded TOO many cats die. But w/ classic I also face the problem of my Clans becoming so overpopulated so quickly that it's hard to make a story and choose what to focus on. Maybe I just need to turn off the ability to have kits w/ an unknown partner? Idk, just looking for ppls opinions/preferences for a story-centric Clangen run!

Hey! I don't know if the way I do things is the BEST way but here's how I do things: I play on expanded mode! And while you're right, a lot more cats can die on expanded mode, it's a lot more interesting to me. A good idea is to decide which cats of yours you DON'T really want to die, and just reset the moon if they DO (for example, Tigertoe died MOON ONE and I had to reset IMMEDIATELY).

If you don't plan on having main characters in your clangen like I do, then I would recommend turning "mass extinction events" on if you're going to have "unknown second parent" on! The main reason I don't have mass extinction events on even though I do have unknown second parent on is because my main characters (like Tiger and Clown) were as likely to die as the side characters I didn't care so much about. A good rule I like to use is--if you're going to have "unknown second parent" on--decide which cats you DONT want to have kits, for plot reasons (Ringstar), and turn their ability to have kits off. I also turn kits off on characters that have ALREADY had kits with an unknown parent, so they don't just keep having MORE. I've also seen people manually/randomly kill off cats when they start getting too many and make up lore to explain it! (Whisperingclan does this for example!)

Hope this sort of helps! The bottom line is, RNG is really just a starting point. You have control over the lore and how you want to use it!

Loudclan was originally planned to be drawn as I played the game like most other clangen blogs... Then I got frustrated about how slow it was moving and played ahead. Just a little bit, nothing to worry about, only about 1000 moons. So this blog should be running for A WHILE. I also take pretty big liberties with the designs and events. I think it's more interesting that way! Also it's been several real life months since I started playing and some things I just... forgot. Or lost. Either way, it's fun to stretch my creative skills.

As for the mechanics of the blog:

Death, Animal Death, Death in Childbirth, Violence, Murder, Illness, Gore, Bad Parenting, Cheating, Affairs, Drama, Cursing, ECT. (if i missed something please let me know)

Updates are not going to be on a consistent schedule... ever. I'm a college student. I just don't have the time or energy.

The style is going to vary wildly. It's been years since I've consistently drawn cats and I wasn't ever really happy with the way I did it back then anyway. Come along for the ride with me! I'm just as surprised by what my hands create as you guys!

Overview:

Loudclan is set in a fictional location that is based on South Central Alaska. A group of rogues fled up the mountains to get away from the deep snows of the valleys at the beginning of a particularly harsh winter. The clan follows three "Leaders" in the form of the Leader, the Lead Healer, and the Lead Mediator. These leaders will each pass their position on to their oldest heir, the closest related member of their direct family. Issues regarding what happens when two cats have similar claims have yet to be sorted out by the clan, and may never be fully decided... *insert mysterious foreshadowing sounds*

So I recently noticed another ask saying certain concepts from patfw cannot be reused, so here’s my question; is anyone who’s read patfw allowed to have non cat animals interact with cats in their warriors stories. Like a dog pack and a cat clan that can speak to one another. I don’t know if it’s just the death cult part or if it’s the entire concept of friendly-friendly (regardless of if it’s called that) that you want to basically copyright and. I do not want to step on anyone’s toes. So. Here goes

Okay, let's get something straightened out - I didn't say that. This anonymous person asked me about something, I said "I suppose I'm uncomfortable with that", and I didn't clarify any further.

I think I was in a bit of a mood when I wrote that answer, which happens. But I never said anything was "off-limits". Um, mostly because I didn't exactly create the idea of animals talking to each other! Not even in Warriors! I don't have anything copyrighted, and you are presumably not claiming specific characters as your own and/or trying to make money off it, so it's fine.

I'll explain more under the below ask. (Also, somewhat of a tangent, but please don't send me "requests for talking more" anonymously. Normally I wouldn't have answered that first ask, but there was no other way for me to interact with it. My public blog is not a private message. Just send me a message or an un-anonymous ask.)

Yes, Defiance was my main issue with that request. Animals talking to each other? Whatever, I didn't create that. Healers/whoever hunting and patrolling? That is utterly not unique to me.

But the way that Defiance was flippantly referred to as a "murder cult", a concept I always took very seriously and am managing the language surrounding it, and actually based on a very specific structure I came up with, bugged me. So since I didn't feel like getting into it that day, I said no I'm not comfortable with that.

There's my full answer. I don't care if you have animals talk to each other. You can go take it up with Peter Rabbit if you want. Maybe leave Defiance alone.
