Y’know what, as popular as he is for filling in the role of a traumatized, powerful, aloof pretty boy, I don’t think any of those traits are really as significant to Todoroki’s character as they are for a lot of other characters who fill a similar niche. In fact, you could discard just about any one of those traits (and I’d argue he isn’t actually aloof) and he’d still feel pretty similar to how he’s written now.

A lot of characters in BNHA seem to have a major defining trait, and if Bakugou’s is ambition and Midoriya’s is stubbornness, I’d say that Todoroki’s is his strait-forwardness.

Like, some of it is really obvious. He’s blunt and honest to a fault, and it’s canon that he doesn’t seem to get metaphors and figures of speech. But even beyond that, he seems to just take whichever route is the most obvious to him.

Midoriya and All Might have similar quirks and he’s All Might’s favorite? Well, he’s only really had close relationships with family (particularly his mom), so he comes to the conclusion that they’re related. Kids rebelling and refusing to listen? He started forming better relationships after he felt he knew people a little better, so he introduces himself and tells them what he’s like. He wants to spite his father? Refuse his desires and still one-up him without emulating him. Hell, even the hand curse? His first actual friend and then another person he’s become close to injure their hands while fighting against/alongside him, so if he’s got any belief in the supernatural (or thinks a ‘curse’ could be the work of a quirk, even) it’s not THAT absurd.

The connections he makes and the conclusions he draws might not be typical, but he’s had just a weird life (presumably homeschooled and raised by the #2 hero and his older sister in a pretty unpleasant environment, with a strong understanding of combat (which explains his skill there, and who he learned from explains why he’s not particularly bothered about collateral damage at first) but basically no way to learn social norms) and he is just so incredibly blunt he seems to pass over things a lot of other people think of.

With social interactions, he’s blunt and honest but not unkind. He generally cares about people and likes his classmates after the Sports Festival, but he’s not particularly expressive and he doesn’t engage socially the same way the rest of them do, although he’ll go along. Also, when people are upset - Tsuyu, Yaomomo, and Midoriya stand out here - Todoroki doesn’t react to comfort them like most people would, but he’s honest and blunt about the situation, like telling Yaomomo he admires her skill or saying that heros probably cry. It’s awkward, and he’s clearly not used to big emotional displays (or identifying emotions at all) but he’s willing to help even if his idea of help is to tell someone having an anxiety attack exactly why their panic is irrational. He’s just ridiculously solution-oriented.

Instead of going a to b to c to d, he just jumps a to d, which is unique among the rest of class 1-A. He prioritizes the most basic function of the task (a-d) without much thought about the execution or convenience of it. Like, if you were to take Bakugou, he might skip some steps but he’s still focused on getting a-d the best way, even if it’s not necessarily the most direct. So you get two very powerful people who can both use their quirk in a lot of ways, but Bakugou favors tailoring his quirk use to the situation and has a ton of different applications and techniques, while Todoroki just uses overwhelming force or the most obvious (if not easiest or efficient) way, like freezing an entire building.

But his straightforwardness ends up really strange in combination with his unusual worldview, which I think is super interesting.

Say you were to put class 1-A in a low-stakes just-for-fun competition like who can get through a hedge maze fastest. Most of them would take the game for what it is and go through like normal, and maybe use their quirks to give themselves an edge like looking over the hedges or improving their speed. Bakugou would look at the obstacles, think of the fastest way to overcome them, and probably fly over the hedges from the entrance to the exit.

I think that, if you didn’t put someone with Todoroki to tell him the point is to navigate through, he would look at the hedges, and think, “This isn’t really an obstacle for me. I can just burn a path to the exit.”

He just doesn’t bother seeing things as complex. You need to cry, you probably should. Your friend calls for help, rush in. A policeman tries to lecture you, he’s speaking his true feelings. Todoroki takes the first option he sees without hesitation, and that has both it’s positive and negative impacts.

It’s a really unusual trait to have in a character who comes off as all cool and mysterious, and it’s kind of great.

Mushan - How equipped is your character at performing first aid?

As someone who is dependent to preform First Aid on herself until she would be able to call for a Healer or who is in some situations even forced to treat her own wounds and sicknesses without the help of a Healer either because of her location or because she has no money to pay for this service, Mar has a wide knowledge of poisons and healing herbs to treat broken bones, illnesses and fleshwounds.

Mar had learned that one who knsow how to heal someone also very good knows how to wopund someone, so as Mar is a warrior her healingskills go hand in hand with her combatskills.

Usually Mar has a box of healingherbs in her Steeds saddlebags to treat her own injuries and the ones of those around her, even thought it would always be better to eventually call for a Healer since Mar might be good at preforming herbal healing, this healing is as said herbal and could never be as strong as a Magicusers. So while one in Mars hands wouold for sure survive the wound, broken bone, sickness one has to avoid permanent harm it would be better to seek out a Priest after one is able to walk again because of Mars healing.
