some people say they're worried about working for a company with poor HR, but the truth is that HR never works for you, because it works, first of all, for the company. it is an insidious department wherever it is to be found, full of the most vile, manipulative, self-important people who have wrapped themselves up in a distortion of the english language and will bludgeon you to death with it. when you apply to a job in america, most of the time what you're really doing is currying favor with an HR representative by tailoring your application to what you think they want to hear, not presenting what your real skills are. when you complain about discrimination or some other issue, chances are that HR will immediately take the company's side and report your complaint to higher management. this happens time and time again

genuinely so sorry to slide into your dm's like this, not sure that this is proper tumblr etiquette, etc., but i just got so excited when i read in your sayu-gets-the-death-note ask that you've been trying to talk yourself out of doing an entire statutory interpretation of the manga death note rules because i've been trying to talk myself out doing an entire metaphysical interpretation of the manga death note rules, so... if you, like me, simply cannot talk yourself out of a stupid idea once it sinks its claws in your brain and would at some point like to share notes about I THINK one of the sexiest and most broken parts of this series, i'd be delighted.
oh my god dont apologise im just excited a single person on earth besides me is interested in a pseudo-legal (very pseudo) perspective on the death note rules. high fives you. for the most part im just incredibly impressed that they manage to retain so much internal consistency especially since so many of them have the vibe of, like, random amendments which were included just for funsies. it's incredible they don't overtly contradict each other. ive been obsessed with them since i first saw them and have already spent way too much time reading over them but yeah i'd honestly love to dig into them more. HTR13 does organise them into something closer to Parts or Divisions which makes the structure a little more coherent. it drives me nuts that sometimes a numbered rule will have sub-provisions that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. drafting that gives me a stress migraine

vietnamese cuisine doesn’t really use sesame seeds or sesame oil or dark soy sauce as much as the chinese, korean, or japanese, a lot of us think sesame oil has such a strong flavor it’s basically only suitable as a preservative to mask the off-flavors of turned meat and using old ingredients is a big nono to us, we have a “go to the market everyday for fresh ingredients” culture. one of my core memories in the kitchen with my mom was when i was making sườn heo kho tiêu/black pepper braised pork ribs with my mom as a gift to one of her ailing friends, and my mom drizzled sesame oil and sesame seeds on top of the finished ribs and she was like we only do this when giving food as a gift to someone else so it can seem “fresh” for a longer amount of time. which is why using sesame oil isn’t as common because in our minds, it’s relegated to the chinese koreans and japanese because they supposedly don’t get fresh ingredients everyday and NEED sesame oil, according to my family. similarly most of us barely, if at all, use dark soy sauce because it’s “so heavily flavored” that it’ll overwork and damage our kidneys, because a vietnamese philosophy for living a long life involves lightly seasoning your food.

i said this in a reply but i think it merits its own post:
producers, publishers, and sponsors are not the creators.
they are the creators' landlords.

You know what, I'm really, really starting to like Ulfar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I may not know much of space marines yet, the Angels of the Emperor, their Chapters and whatnot, but he seems to represent yet another facet of the Imperium's ideals.
They all have roles. Everyone needs to play theirs to keep the machine going. Everyone is literally born into those roles, with a few exceptions.
And Ulfar seems to be doing his very solemnly. He recognizes what he is and what he is not, and it's kind of refreshing because my expectations for him were...not high. And he turns out to be a really well fleshed-out character, filling his role in the story.
Tumblr media
Like I said, I have zero idea how he should be according to canon or if he is represented lore-friendly, I just know I'm liking the guy :D

Very weird to see Good Guys vs Bad Guys rhetoric circulating on the dash when we are talking about armies and militias with guns and political aims. The reality of war is war crimes (including genocide); the reality of prisons is torture; there is no such thing as the humane capture of hostages nor the humane penning of civilians in ghettos.

as far as we know Will Laurence was only shipwrecked once in his 18 years of service in the Navy. Obviously once he switches to the Aerial Corps the probability of being shipwrecked is a lot smaller, right? Because he's not spending 97% of his life on a ship? Incorrect. He's on the Goliath when she is sunk by the French in Victory of Eagles, then the Allegiance in Tongues of Serpents, and then gets washed overboard in Blood of Tyrants when the Potentate runs aground on the rocks off Japan. That is three (3) shipwrecks in eight years, two of them within a year of each other. And you know what the common factor is here? They all happened when Tharkay wasn't with him.

Your character playlists will improve so much if you create weird self-enforced rules like "bands and singers can only come from the place where the story is set" for stories set in the real world or "bands and singers have to be people this character would listen to IRL"
