A squeaky wail rose up from the western end of the main square. Tayil spotted a ratonga woman on her knees, ears pressed flat against her skull while she was sobbing her heart out. A mass of other ratonga was quickly forming around her. Each of them knelt down and sprinkled a pawful of sand over the white fur on her head or arms while murmuring something before moving away. Tayil walked over to the mourning ratonga and poked her with her staff. “I assume I’m looking for you.” The ratonga nodded through tears. She had her arms wrapped around herself tightly and was rocking back and forth, paying no mind to her grubby fur. Tayil cleared her throat impatiently. “What is your name?” “Tomila.” “Tomila. I can offer you Thomasius’s paycheck. But I can offer you something far more valuable than coin: revenge.” “Revenge?” she choked between tears. “You means he was murdereds?”
We're back in Freeport. Tayil is finally going to apprehend the rat that made her do manual labor - and she still has Lucan's errand to run.

Honestly every rpg needs to have it where if you go do something, and you later find a npc who has a quest to go do that, it just banks the data and auto completes the quest
This is mostly about mmos, but really it's just solid advice in general an it's always appreciated it when a game does it and annoying when it doesn't. Like that's just a fact
Like if you go into Crushbone and manage to smack around King Crushbone, then if someone wants him killed it should just instantly be ready for turn in

Hello!!! would you mind doing a 🌹 for Elias possibly please? They enjoy flirting, and spending time around people! They deeply enjoy going through the actions and symbolism of romance, even if they don't really feel attraction. This is absolutely a favorite time of year for them!!
here's their Bio!: https://www.tumblr.com/the-dye-stained-socialite/729007131094908928/character-bio-elias-leroux-name-title-elias?source=share
The Captain knocks gently on your door, a box full of chocolate sweets, frosted with carefully harvested Honey.
"From my personal collection of lost Dreams, for you. I suggest you'd have one or two tonight, before bedtime. Dreams are shy and fragile, my dear, better let them come to you at their own pace." they seem to be a little hesitant, then smiles a little, a warm and crooked smile.
"Some of them are not just from my personal collection but they're personal. Hope you'll like them, Elias dear. Shall we go?"
The Captain keeps easily your pace, enjoying the light chatting. They always keep an eye on you, as if studying your expressions or the effect something they said had on you. They make way gallantly for you, splitting a crowd of Zailor a little too happy to be back in London with a bow and gesture of their hand. They seem pretty at home here, at the Docks and Elias can't help but wonder where are they headed, as the false-night creeps slowly in.
Some false-stars begin to shine a little more brightly as if the real night had fallen upon London, when the Captain stops near the Dock; they sit with their feet dangling lightly off the edge as they show to Elias some of the Constellation they use to navigate the troubled waters both of the Unterzee and the heart: some of those are deeply tied to loss and pain but also joy and love.
"That one is the Everquesting Knight. Bound to Search for their Desire but never reaching it. And the Zee Beast, over there. And ah... don't trust those stars over there..." each explanation comes in a soft voice, not a trace of the usual salt air in it.
Then it's time for some fun action, as they lead you to a nearby warehouse, all decorated in all the Neathbow colour: bright coloured lamps create a caleidoscope of illusions on the floor.
It seems like they know everyone and you spend the next few hours between music, group dances (it's sort of magnetic and hypnotizing how so many burly people can move in sync and with such grace. Their zee legs influence the way they move in a mesmerizing pull-and-push style of dance)
In between the dances the Captain introduces you to some of the most WILD zailors they know, proud and happy to be in your company tonight.
Occasional show offs of physical strenght and brawls start on the now emptied dance floor, like arm-wrestling and even swashbuckling as if the whole warehouse transformed into some sort of wild and strange zee-themed circus.
The air is so full of joy and shared emotions, you lose sight of the Captain for a while and when they return to you, they're holding a small figurine, masterfully carved out of stygian ivory: it is clearly meant to represent you, in every minute detail of your outfit, laughing or perhaps singin.
As the night grows old, the party doesn't seem to be willing to wind out soon, Francis Dargor asks you if you'd like to see something secret: there's a room in the tallest spire of the Bazaar in which they can senak in and there, they keep a certain item that will shine a new light on London, if you're willing to come with them.
They open up a pathway through a mirror, big and wide, forgotten in a corner of the Dock and you end up in a room where the walls are all silvered mirrors: two doors on opposing walls the only things breaking the mesmerizing views of Parabola. One of the door is open and you can see a small balcony on the other side; the Captain is waiting out there with a small telescope in hand, waiting for you.
Through it, you can barely see the Bazaar but oh so many lights! Small fires or stars are crawling and entwine in the streets of London!
"See those? Those are Love stories. People who love and are loved."
You'd swear that for the briefest moment, the Captain was RADIANT.
For the last couple of hours, the two of you look at London through that telescope trying to figure out the strange dance of all these stars, what kind of love could be moving them.
Once you're back home, you open up the box of chocolate and pick up one to try; it's slightly warm and it tastes like cherry liquor.
That night you dream of a young man, green eyes and dark blonde hair and a number of small, sweet moments with him: a stroll under starlight, real starlight, a game of chess with finely crafted pieces; blue and white and black and red. A playful chase under the sun, golden hair shining so bright.
The next morning you find a small hand mirror, with an inscription all around its frame and a note:
"To all Love its Light, to all Zailor their Dream." says the inscription
"Thank you so much for the night. It'll be a precious memory and a little light I'll bring with me in my voyages. Yours truly, Captain Francis Dargor Morgan."
The envelope smalls vaguely like zee salt, old wood and candles, a kiss imprinted in peligin in the corner. From your window you can see their galleon departing and you can't help but wonder which light will guide them back to London this time...

Answering Gaming Questions with AI - Ranking ALL the EverQuest Expansions
We are in the run up to the EverQuest 25th anniversary next month and I thought maybe I should turn the dubious power of the AI bots onto the topic of Norrath and its many expansions.  There are, after all, 30 expansions in the bag for EverQuest.  That is too many for me to possibly rank, much less even write a simple declarative sentence about. AIs thinking about video game questions… drawn by…

@cleverblackcat tagged me to make some of my OCs with this super cute picrew!
First is my namesake Shanarah, she's my oldest OC and a Vah Shir Beastlord in EverQuest.
Next are Sarovanya and Hellendil. They are brothers in my original story (that I still need to write). Saro is a warrior and my canon warden in DAO. Hellendil is a mage and wearing his Hogwarts school outfit he wore once.
Last row is Ysmeria and Tarwen. Ys is a half dark elf and Tarwen is Saro's LI in their original story. Ys is a cleric and my secondary canon warden. Tarwen is a ranger and one of my canon inquisitors in DAI.
Tagging @slothssassin, @tessa1972, @darth-salem-emperor-of-earth, @iamtheempress, @raflesia65, @kemvee and anyone else who would like to share their OCs!

Finished this yesterday before work. I recently decided to go the route of using silly names for my abstract pieces. Right now I'm calling this, "In My 20s I Once Stayed Up All Night Playing EverQuest".
Hopefully in the next few days I'll have an art store setup.
10 x 7.5 inches. Acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, ink, and marker on watercolor paper.

EEE-yesss! Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II is on Steam!
Not long ago I played Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance on Dolphin Emulator and then played its PC/ Steam version afterwards, then emulated Dark Alliance 2 on PCSX2. Looking forward to trying the PC version of DA2.
Dark Alliance on PC! Okay, how about the Champions games next? Oh, how I wish...
Something I noticed is on the Steam Store page there are quite a lot of reviews for this game and DA1 that were people asking for Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms to be ported to PC since the games are in a similar boat and have ties to each other.
Tumblr media
What is Champions of Norrath?
For those of you who don't know, Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms are old PS2 top down hack n slash RPG looting games (kinda like Diablo) and was developed by Snowblind Studios, who also co-developed Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1. Rather than being the DnD universe like Baldurs Gate, the Champions games take place in the Everquest universe. Everquest was an old MMO game owned by Sony Online Interactive.
Now I am a HUGE Champions fan. While I myself have never played the Everquest MMO, I can safely say you don't have to know Everquest lore to enjoy the Champions of Norrath games. Without a doubt they are my favorite PS2 exclusive games. Which that is the sad part, the games never re-released... EVER. They've been stuck on PS2 since they were released way back in 2004 and 2005.
PC Port? Very unlikely...
As much as I would LOVE PC ports to happen, I just don't see it being possible. Snowblind created the Snowblind engine, the engine the Champions and Dark Alliance games run on and helped co-develop Dark Alliance 1. However, the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games are still property of DnD and owned by Wizards of the Coast, so they were far easier to get a hold of to re-release for PC and modern consoles, but the Champions games, however, are entangled in a serious mess of copyright holders that would be next to impossible to sort out for a proper re-release. Think Goldeneye 64. how it's tied to Rareware, the James Bond IP, and Nintendo. Image courtesy of Nerrel from his video on Emulation on Youtube.
Tumblr media
A user on Steam pretty much summed up the game's messy copyright situation as this...
Champions is not ever getting released again. Snowblind, the original developers were merged with Monolith, who's owned by Warner Bros. The game was published by Sony Online Entertainment and Ubisoft. SOE have since been sold to Columbus Nova (a NY investment firm) and are now under the name Daybreak Game Company and they own the IP rights for Everquest (the world Champions is based on). The process it'd take to get that mess untangled would be a nightmare and in the end wouldn't be worth the amount of money they'd make off of releasing it on steam.
Emulation is key!
So, its highly unlikely the game will ever be released again and will remain on PS2 forever. That's why emulation is incredibly important for preserving old games that get left behind. I recently did several runs of both Champions games with my brother using PCSX2 and had little to no issues. It felt like playing the original game, but in a higher resolution than the original PS2 could offer and some graphical tweaks for better color with the use of ReShade.
Tumblr media
Now I still want to hold out hope that one day I'll get an official PC port of one of my favorite games ever, but if that day never comes, then at least emulation will keep the game alive.

Robbie Cooper
In 2003 I was photographing the CEO of a company, when he told me that he used virtual world games to play with his children. He was divorced and had bad access to them, so he would meet them every evening in “Everquest”, where they would play and chat. I asked him, what did they talk about? He told me that they discussed things like homework, school, their mother; the normal stuff of humdrum reality.
His description of this banal but emotionally important exchange, taking place in the vivid fantasy of the game, got me thinking about the nature of the game itself; it’s a world of surface appearances and symbols. Within that, their interaction had been reduced to text; it was a technological extension of psychological models- the imaginary, and the symbolic structure of language.
Reading the work of the economist Edward Castronova, it was already obvious that these surface appearances were rapidly achieving significant real world value, as items for sale between players. Castronova’s 2001 paper “Virtual Worlds: A First Hand Account of Market and Society on the Cyberian Frontier” now seems quaint in how far it underestimated the rate of growth in this secondary market. But the level of demand was already climbing at an extraordinary rate.
I spent the next three years, on and off, travelling to places like Korea, China, France and Germany to photograph people who use virtual world games. By recording the appearance of the real person, alongside that of their avatar, I wanted to compare each person with the identity that they’d created to interact with others online. At the same time I assembled texts written by each person with the help of Tracy Spaight, and Bruno Ceschel. Alter Ego was published as a book in 2007, by Chris Boot Ltd.

Well, I am not a fan of cheap content creation by copy/pasting mediocre machine learning algorithms results. But have a laugh about this "article" regarding what EverQuest 3 would look like according to ChatGPT and Midjourney.
I especially like the irony here as most can remember what EverQuest Next/Landmark was looking like.
