Rom Com Rules aka Just A Scratch Part 2 Sneak Peak

I wrote this today while working on Part 2 of Just A Scratch. Not sure if it's going to fit but I just love a buzzed Javy Machado doing anything to visit his best friend in the hospital.

This conversation would be between Coyote and Phoenix:

Javy's voice is the thing that finally snaps her out of that dangerous head-space. "I tried to tell them I was in love with him" the man shares to the now empty waiting room.

Nat feels like her brain isn't working while she comprehends this new information, "wait you what?"

"I told the nurses I was in love with Jake, figured they would break the visiting hours rule if they thought I needed to give him a heartfelt declaration of love but they denied me." He moves closer as though to whisper in Nat's ear but his volume is still just as loud in his buzzed state, "I don't think they believed me" he shares almost conspiratorially.

Phoenix notices the nurse at reception shake her head fondly before she turns back to the other pilot, "Javy, are you in love with him?"

The man's face blanches, "What? No, of course not, I just really want to see him and was hoping for Rom-Com rules."

Now Nat really feels lost, "'Rom-Com Rules?'" she questions.

Javy sighs with exasperation before looking upward, as though he needs heavenly patience to get through this question. "Yeah" he drawls, "you know how in all those romantic comedies the main character messes up and then to try to apologize they tell people they are in love? They get to cut lines at the airport or visit their hospital room after hours. I tried to give a whole spiel to the nursing staff, talking about how Jake is the light of my life and all that shit and they still turned me down! Even Nurse Beverley said no and that woman is so a Rom-Com gal."

Phoenix sits in silence for a moment, until finally she can't help but let out a gush of laughter. It should feel wrong, especially after all that's happened tonight but something about imagining Javy Machado in the plot of one of her favorite 90's movies brings a smile to her face and giggles to her lips. "You're an idiot" she declares, wiping a tear that happened to form in her eye. Next to her she sees a small smile appear on Coyote's face as well. "Jake will appreciate the effort" he defends with a playful huff.

Phoenix scoffs wetly, her amusement fading to straight fondness for the man at her side and his insistence on not only staying here for Jake but for her as well. She reaches over and grips Javy's hand, her heart warming when he immediately squeezes hers back. "Yeah" she agrees, "he will."

She can't wait for him to finally wake up so they can tell him.
