📚🫖 3, 8, 13 bitte gern ☺️
Hallihallöle und Dankeschön 😊❤️ Angenehme Weise das Schreiben kurz zu unterbrechen 😊✌🏼.
3. What do you order at a café?
Sooo definitely NO COFFEE 😅. Tea or hot chocolate (when its cold) or ice tea or cola (when its warm). And if I could get some food maybe Waffen, maybe a crepe or warm apfelstrudel (yes that os the actual english translation 😂). Mainly something sweet and I'm good 😊.
8. What are your top three films? Books?
I would like to add more films since I got more films that I like than books. When I think about it some more I haven't really touched a book in years 😳. And I really was reading a lot and thick books once upon a time 🙈.
Films:
- "We Bought A Zoo" - I really just love that dilm and the soundtrack, it hits so close to home and still has this beautiful message. There is one scene in that film that and with the music playing in that moment brings me to tears every time I see it again even though I have seen it like a hundred times 🥰😭❤️.
You only need to be brave for 20 seconds ...
- Tatort episodes "Querschläger" and "Schattenleben" - Querschläger because, well surprise, Julia Grosz/Franziska Weisz and Tine Geissler 😍❤️. And Schattenleben because it was the first ever Julia centric episode ever ❤️.
- "Hachiko" - For dog lovers the most beautiful and destroying movie ever 😭💔. Even though you know the story, you know how it ends, you will still cry like a baby.
- "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep" - Its like Free Willy but without a captured animal. Seriously, I love that movie, even though its a movie for kids. Just like I love "The Last Unicorn" 🥰❤️.
Books:
- My mainly favourite book series is the one from Dresden author Kai Leuner. I really loved and enjoyed them and would have loved to read much more, but sadly there were only for of them, but I still love them. It has crime, a female police officer and a female attorney, who are both attracted to each other. And it plays in Dresden 🥰❤️.
- Iceland Defrosted - It has a chapter (or more? I can't remember) about Sigur Rós ❤️❣️. Do I need to say more? So it's actually a book about iceland out of the eyes of a british iceland and puffin fanboy. And it is so full of love and humor its just really awesome.
- "Zwischen uns die Zeilen" - A very beautiful story about two women falling in love. I can only recommend warm and whole heartedly.
- And I loved Patricia Cornwells book series about fictional characted Kay Scarpetta.
13. Which season do you feel at home in?
Spring and summer, early autumn maybe. When the world starts to blossom again. Birds come back and start singing their blues. The world comes alive again. The colours change. And temperatures won't drop below 15 degrees. And I will make bicycle tours again once it warms enough (for me 😅).

thank you @pomegranatecurses for tagging me to talk about 7 of my favorite films!!!
1. Back to the Future (the whole series)
So I first watched this with my parents, who are HUGE movie nerds lol, and I didn’t quite expect to like it so much. My favorite film of the three is the first one.
2. Lord of the Rings (trilogy) [The Hobbit, too. I’m gonna label it as one don’t @ me]
Again— I know this one since I was a little baby, probably one of the first movies I remember watching. Even now I keep watching the whole trilogy in extended editions with every chance I get lol.
3. Forrest Gump
RIGHT SO in 2017 I went to London and I went into this shrimp fast food restaurant named Bubba-Gump shrimp and I remembered that I had heard the Gump name before and I asked my parents about it and basically that very night we made a Netflix account only to watch Forrest Gump lol. One of my favorite movies of all time — funny and incredible sad, too.
4. Hachiko
Not gonna lie, I always cry at this movie even during the beginning credits because I know the ending. I ended up getting my dog after this movie, and the story of Hachiko is simply amazing and sad. If you don’t know it, you can see the movie or search it online, it’s about an Akita Inu Japanese who waited for his owner [he had died one day at work] for 10 years in a train station in Japan until he died.
5. Pulp Fiction
Do I need to say more? Quentin Tarantino is a genious when it comes to directing movies. Plus the soundtrack is bomb. I know Pulp Fiction is one of the most known movies directed by him, but that end bit, when Jules starts quoting the Bible, and the dancing scene with Vince and Mia makes me give this movie a place in the list over Reservoir Dogs or Inglorious Basterds.
6. Kingsman [The Secret Service & The Golden Circle]
Okay okay hear me out — I am not a big fan of the James Bond movies (I mean they’re okay, but I wouldn’t watch them on repeat for too long) but I definitely loved Kingsman which is kind of a James Bond movie but definitely funnier. Johnny English, too, is a really funny movie that I love, but Kingsman takes the prize here because it simply was THAT good.
7. Inception
Christopher Nolan production. Do I need to say more lol? I have watched it a lot and it still hurts my brain when I see it again. It’s a brain-twister really
I am tagging @satans-helper @myownparadise96 @satingrass-maidensfair @pennylane-gvf @beautifulcinephile @stevie-baby to do this, only if you want to obviously :)

Thanks for the asks darling! @mikotofubar
1.What’s the most depressing movie you’ve ever watched?
I would say the one that actually made me the saddest is Hachiko! I am really weak when it comes to animals, esp dogs, I also love the fact is based into a real story. Once i go japan i wanna visit the place.
2.What’s the most disturbing movie you’ve ever watched?
I am not sure xD I am not much into horror, i guess Friday the 13th?
4.A film you could watch on repeat for the rest of your life?
I believe Howl’s castle and Mononoke, love them both a lot
6.A film you wish you hadn’t watched?

Comedy romace for sure! Most of my fav movies are located in this one like 50 apellidos vascos :y
12.A movie that holds a special place in your heart?
Gattacca, for the message it holds about inner power and to never give up, even if that means fighting the impossible.
13.Your favourite comedy film?
50 apellidos vascos lmao, the actors did amazing in my opinion. The movie is about a guy who falls in love with a woman from Euskadi but she rejects him, until she decides to fake be dating him for her father. Its full of spaniard stereotypes xD

21 for the ask meme?
21. Anime that made you cry
No anime or work of fiction has really made me cry. Some moments have been a little close, but that’s about it! I think the only thing that really made me cry was Hachiko when I was six, and that’s based on a true story I think. It wasn’t an anime.
Here are the anime that have given me strong feels. I’m going to be putting a line because there are spoilers. If feels are on a scale of 1 to 10, these have to place 5 or higher. They’re in order (mostly) from least to most.
Note: I have not watched Orange, Clannad, Plastic Memories, and probably a few more that would’ve been “why aren’t they on here?”
If you just want to know the names of the anime: Kimi no na wa, Angel Beats, Bungou Stray Dogs, Hotarubi no Mori e, Death Parade, Your Life in April, Ookami no Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, Boku no Hero Academia, Assassination Classroom,Anohana,Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,Koe no Katachi
Kimi no na wa (5/10 feels)
For some reason I got feels the first time I was watching it because of the pure rush I felt. Looking back on it, I’m not that mad at the ending anymore. They practically painted the picture. It’s our job as the viewers to interpret it.
Kudos to the RADWIMP’s OST and the voice actors who actually primarily did live-action stuff. The transition from live-action to voice acting can be tough, and they did it so well. I think they did deserve the awards they got.
Tumblr media
Angel Beats (kinda) (4/10 feels)
This had not as much to go for it story-wise. I personally think that this show wouldn’t be anything without this song. The voice acting and that song carry the whole show. Everything else relies on the melodrama of the story which doesn’t work at times due to the fluctuation in the show’s tone.
Hiroshi Kamiya and Kana Hanazawa. I know they both worked really hard for this. The English dub is also really good.
Tumblr media
Bungou Stray Dogs (5-6/10 feels)
Yeah, I just wanted to mention this one. I think we all know why. I didn’t get feels the first time I watched it, but I definitely appreciate how much I enjoyed it and how important it is for the storyline. This arc, this scene, and this moment right here are what makes Bungou Stray Dogs.
Mamo and Junichi Suwabe make this scene work really well along with the art direction and everything.
Tumblr media
Hotarubi no Mori e (5-6/10 feels)
Considering this movie is under 50 minutes, they did a very good job establishing it. I would’ve never guessed that Ayane Sakura and Kouki Uchiyama would’ve been capable of this. It was really quite amazing. We even knew exactly what was going to happen, yet we still got roped in.
Tumblr media
Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (6-7/10 feels)
I wasn’t really satisfied with that ending. Nonetheless, this definitely deserves a spot here. If you haven’t, you should just watch the movie.
Tumblr media
Death Parade(6-7/10 feels)
Oh my goodness, that soundtrack, that voice acting by Tomoaki Maeno and Asami Seto, that set up, Madhouse’s animation, the storyline, and everything about it made it fall perfectly into place. It was heartwrenching because it was so... realistic in a way. I didn’t realize how much of an impact this had until long after I watched it.
Tumblr media
Your Lie in April(6-7/10 feels)
I watched the anime and live-action. Both were pretty good. It was just a very heartwarming story, and I think people were shocked by the fact that they didn’t go with the “miracle” route. They were expecting this movie to remain the heartwarming rom-com, and I commend them for sticking to the plan. Of course, the OST was amazing, and the voice actors Natsuki Hanae, Ayane Sakura, and Risa Taneda play huge roles. Not to mention, the art by A-1 Pictures was nice. Their final performance was magnificently done.
Tumblr media
Boku no Hero Academia(6-7/10 feels)
I’m putting this for the pure hype. Words cannot describe what I felt during All Might’s final fight. You know, Kenta Miyake and Akio Ohtsuka fainted during recording because of the amount of effort and retakes. When Miyake said, “Goodbye, One for All.” I was just so taken aback by how much that show has moved me and impacted me.
Tumblr media
Assassination Classroom (7-8/10 feels)
Talk about getting attached! Somehow, I guess it’s because I lacked having good teachers in my life, but this anime will just amaze you at the end. Sure, you might not know any of the classmates, but besides that, Koro-sensei! Jun Fukuyama and Mai Fuchigami are awesome in that final scene. I appreciate this anime so much. Tabidachi no Uta is also a really good song.
Tumblr media
Anohana (7-9/10 feels)
Anohana is one of the best 11-episode anime out there. I think the movie was a little bit of a cash grab (still enjoyable), but the TV series was so powerful. Miyu Irino, Haruka Tomatsu, Ai Kayano (it was her breakout role and one of her best roles to date!), Takahiro Sakurai, Saori Hayami, and Takayuki Kondou were amazing in this anime. The OST and writing were both extremely powerful and made one of my friends cry. Even the ED OST alone can bring back the memories.
Tumblr media
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood(7-9/10 feels)
Oh man, where do I even start? This show... you have to watch it. You spend so much time loving these characters, and when it all comes together at the end, you just want to say everything’s going to be alright. The adrenaline, the heartbreak, and the pure emotions of the story. This is a masterpiece by all means. Hiromu Arakawa set the expectations too high for almost every other anime out there. The way it handles itself and trailblazes a mother’s pain during miscarriages, racism, a person’s sacrifice, immortality, and all the morals that go along with it. Some of these I haven’t seen before in anime. I highly recommend this anime. It’s one of my favourite anime ever, and it’s the reason I continued to watch anime.
Tumblr media
Koe no Katachi (7-9/10 feels)
This one hit so hard. It was like a punch to the gut, but I loved every single minute of this development and this movie. Kyoto Animation did such a good job with the art. It’s one of my favourite movies of all time. Trust me, just watch the movie. Its theme about redemption and self-growth are so strong, and that climax near the end and even the scene the movie ends at are so amazingly done. Miyu Irino and Saori Hayami could not have done a better job. This is truly what made me notice the both of them. This movie was so crucial and so important as to representation and why I think animation itself is such an important medium. This movie is a partial representation of why I like anime.
Tumblr media
Thank you for this ask! I enjoyed looking back on all these anime (that’s not sarcasm. I genuinely enjoyed these.)

D E L I C I O U S  T I M E S ,  P R E C I O U S  M E M O R I E S ~
Oh boy, I haven’t done something like this in a long while here on Tumblr. SO!  👏 I got some goods from the Kirby Cafe! If you’ve not heard about Kirby Cafe until now or you’ve not seen much of it, here’s a video from Hachiko District going over some stuff! This isn’t everything on the menu, I believe, but it should give a good idea what to expect. (Also I don’t think this is Hachiko District’s official YouTube channel, but you can find them on Facebook and watch plenty more delicious videos there)
youtube
I wish I could order the food, but alas..... hhhhhhhhhh please take me to Japan
The Kirby mug is the highlight of my order. It’s so darn cute! I needed a new cup-bowl with a cover so Evie doesn’t get into my food and I can keep my hot food warm. I expected it to not be that big, but it’s a little smaller than I anticipated (too small for a full packet of ramen or cereal). Guess it’ll be best used for soup or ice cream! I could also use it for the next item I ordered~
The Kirby pasta is what they use for their minestrone soup. So much friend-shaped pasta goodness! Now the fun part will come from figuring out how long I should cook it since I can’t read Japanese...
Tumblr media
The final item I ordered is a packet of chocolate-covered coffee beans. I just tried one and it’s pretty tasty! I think the coffee beans are their own special brand? Also, I believe this is milk chocolate? Sad to say that I had ordered the dark chocolate, but I guess the cafe removed dark chocolate from their shop some time after I ordered it and replaced it with cafe au lait. The other option is white chocolate. That’s the only negative I can give about the company I ordered this from because I hadn’t been notified about the change and wasn’t given an option to choose something else or get a refund, but honestly it’s not a huge loss as I would have just accepted one of the other options. If you like chocolate and coffee I highly recommend getting one of these! EDIT: On second thought, I think the one I got is cafe au lait. I’ve never tried it before so -shrugs- Still pretty darn good!
There are many more items you can order from Kirby Cafe! There are plates, silverware, cups, t-shirts, acrylic stands, plushies, the cafe’s soundtrack... The list goes on. Kirby Cafe has its own website and a Twitter account that shows what’s on their menu and the items they have in their store, if you’d like to give it a look. And if you plan on visiting the Kirby Cafe, from what I understand you CAN go into the shop, but to eat in the cafe you absolutely must have a reservation (I believe this is how it works with all specialty cafes in Japan). I don’t know if there are seats still available at this time, but it wouldn’t hurt to check. The food and desserts looks so so good, so it’s not something to miss out on!
If you’d like to order goods from the Kirby Cafe, please check out Aitai Kuji! Other than the coffee beans their services has been great. They have many, many, MANY items from plenty of anime and video game franchises you can order. Don’t see something in particular you’re looking for? You can make a request by e-mailing customer service and they’ll do their best to stock it (look under their FAQ page for the e-mail regarding requests). You can also follow their Twitter account to see the latest updates and such. I’d recommend you order special limited-time goods from them as soon as possible when they’re available because popular items like the Kirby Cafe goods sell out pretty quick! I highly recommend giving them a shot.
(Just to note: PLEASE don’t order Kirby Cafe goods off of eBay. I saw the Kirby mug going for $100, just the mug itself. Other items go for equally ridiculous prices. The cost of these items I ordered plus shipping added up to about the same price as the mug on eBay. Get it at a much more reasonable price with Aitai Kuji or another trustworthy service. Again, if you really want these, I suggest you order them ASAP before the cafe closes in June.)

Opening Up Your World
Back when I was a penniless high school student, there were these twins I knew at Chinese school who tried to introduce me to a little known Nintendo DS game with, what they thought, had some excellent art aesthetic. Curious, I managed to find the elusive game. And for a couple of minutes, I took it out for a spin - wondering whether it would pique my interest. Though it was colourful and looked to have an intriguing story, the confusing controls and my assumption that each mission would have a real-life countdown saw me put it aside in order to finish off other quality games such as the Ace Attorney series and Pokemon Ranger.
This game was called The World Ends With You.
Tumblr media
Fast forward a decade later and the niche cult hit was announced for the Switch. After encountering Neku and the others in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, I decided to pick the game up. Again. And after hearing many good things about the game over the years, and now with more time on my hands because I was a full-grown adult that had control of my own life, I thought it best to enjoy the things that I had to give up due to my studies.
The World Ends With You centres on Neku Sakuraba. Despite his vivid imagination, he is a solitary denizen of Shibuya. Headphones over his ears, he wants to shut the whole world out. One day, he wakes up to find that he’s trapped in a game of life and death. The only way to win is to partner with another of the ‘players’ and survive seven days.
It’s a simple premise but its simplicity belies the depth with regards to story and the game mechanics themselves. Over the course of the game, Neku is able to connect with others and broadens his view of the world. In a society where we often strive to tune out the myriad of people all around us - mostly by staring at our phones - it’s a poignant message despite the fact that The World Ends With You was released in 2007. We have become so insular and our social media feeds have become echo chambers of our own perceptions that we often forget that there are others out there. They might have different views or an understanding of how the world works. But just because it is not the same does not mean we should invalidate their opinion or their thoughts.
Only by coming together, by sharing ideas, can we truly grow and become better people. Everyone is different. And that is a good thing.
Look at how many other games that have explored the concept of a society that is uniform. In Tales of Berseria, emotions were stripped from the denizens because negativity spawned demons. But to do so also stripped people of their free will. What about Assassin’s Creed? The conflict with the Templars is all about whether order should reign or freedom. What I liked about the most recent entry: Odyssey was the fact that both were required to keep the balance.
I found it an intriging theme to explore and days afterwards began to wonder about the similarities and differences I shared with my common commuter on the train. We build all these walls around us but a potential friend could just be beside you. Yet, you might never be able to explore that opportunity when wrapped up in your own thoughts that are all focused internally.
Tumblr media
As for the combat, the Switch version of The World Ends With You, throws aside the dual screens. Instead, players are just required to control Neku. Armed with pins, Neku uses the power of psyches to damage the Noise. These are remnants of Souls that are used by the Reapers to attack players. In the secret reports, they are often used as a tool to whittle down the prospective candidates. One pin could grant Neku the ability to summon fire. Another might allow him to throw cars at the enemy.
Each one can be activated by slashing at the screen, pressing and holding a specific button or by dragging Neku himself. I found that those that were easily implemented the best in my playthrough due to the fact that I was also battling with the motion controls on the Switch. While The Worlds Ends With You can be played undocked, the fact that I was so terrible at putting on the screen protector meant that I kept it docked and made do.
Initially, I had issues with the constant drifting. After a couple of hours, though, I managed to familiarise myself adequately enough with the controls. That and a few choice pins saw me through to the end of all three weeks, giving me a new series to fall in love with.
I also want to give a shout-out to the soundtrack. While I’m not sure if it would be as relevant in the future as it was when the game first came out, it suited the style of the world. The voice acting was also enjoyable and I loved the little mannerisms that came through of each partner’s personality during combat.
Though The World Ends With You can be a little unorthodox in its execution, the message within is just as prevalent now as it was when it was first released. Perhaps even more so as we descend into the digital age. The only puzzles that remain were: how did Shiki know so much about the rules when she first partnered with Neku? Did Hanekoma provide her some context before she headed to the statue of Hachiko about the game or were all players briefed on the rules before they woke up in Shibuya and that knowledge was also stolen from Neku as part of his price? Also...does Neku just have really good hearing or is the noise cancellation on his head phones simply terrible?

some 92nd Generation Movie Headcanons? Idk.
I was bored and I rly love movies. I don’t even know....
Soma: watching movies with Soma can be challenging. As Soma's mind is literally full of things, his attention will often drive off. Because of that he often misses some story parts or details and will ask you, what's going on right now. When he actually does pay attention, he often points out random things like that some person in the background is walking out a really cute dog. His favourite Disney Movie is Peter Pan. Is open for mostly every Genre, except Drama, because he does not understand why you would put yourself trough two hours of crying and complicated plot lines.
Erina: loves James Cameron's Titanic! Till she entered Polar Star, the only movies she had been seeing were Disney ones. She is great in pointing out plot holes and weaknesses. Her favourite movies are romances, but she also likes Drama. Rarely cries during movies. You can tell that Erina is really enjoying a movie, as she then is completely silent and has her eyes glued to the screen. The more she talks, the more bored/annoyed she is with the film.
Megumi: Studio Ghibli Fangirl #1 but just in general is a huge appreciators Animation Movies. She is simply astonished with the love of detail that is most of the time put into them. When watching life action, she pays a lot of attention to the camera work. Her favourite Disney movie is Dumbo. Lazy animation get's her quite angry. Always points out when something impressed her in a movie, because the maker deserves this credit!
Takumi: quite critical movie taste. Very Very critical with Romantic Comedies as they can easily fuck up and Takumi hates it when a movie turns out to be just a waste of time. He appreciates good visuals combined with a well thought out plot and turns a lot to the Drama Genre. Much like Megumi, he does always say when someone did a good job on something. Absolutely dislikes Horror Movies.
Isami: Loves Horror Movies. He's one of those persons who watch that stuff, with a smile on their face being just simply entertained (how???). He is critical tough. Like way too much visual gore is just gross, not scary, stop it. Looks a lot after a good plot and prefers Horror Movies that actually don't show you a lot but let it happen in your mind.
Ikumi: LOVES Top Gun. She just in general favors the combination of action with romance. But the romance does have to play a major role! Would like Superhero-movies more if the love interests just wouldn't be such helpless damsels in distress!
Alice: likes Action and Horror the most but is also always open for romcoms. She get's bored with pure romances, comedy has to be an aspect! Laughs about bad effects and pays a lot of attention to the CGI. Loves to share her thoughts, while watching the movie. Also likes to make fun of the protagonist. Is enjoying the hilarious badness from B-Movies.
Ryo: Often watches Horror Movies with Alice, which he doesn't mind. Big fan of the Rocky Series. Rambo is good too. He likes brutal movies, with harsh dialogue. Sport Movies are great too. Eats a lot while watching. Points out some mistakes here and then. Has to sit trough B-Movies sometimes and doesn't know if he is actually entertained or angered by their incompetence, depends on the level of incompetence I guess.
Hayama: Mostly only watches movies while doing something else. Likes serious movies and avoids comedies, as there are so many bad ones. Loves watching people achieve their goal and dreams.
Hisako: doesn't finds a lot of time to watch movies and when she does it's often something pure and relaxing, with maybe some bit of a serious tone but always a happy ending. However, she does watch some of Erina's Drama-Collection. Favourite Movie is E.T. Prefers orchestral,  classical soundtracks over modern ones.
Ryoko: loves Romances and Musical. Is probably very into Casablanca and Grease. Collects movie quotes, which she really likes. Does look a lot on Soundtrack and Dialogue.
Shun: is one of those people who genuinely enjoy B-movies in an ironic way. He is critical with movies and points out a lot of plot holes and technical mistakes, when watching good films. As B-Movies are full of mistakes, he doesn't even brothers to address them and he just get's amused by them...sitting there with that small Shun-Smile.
Zenji: action and good documentaries are the way to go. Points out mistakes here and then, but mostly just wants to enjoy the movie. Dislikes Horror Movies even more than Takumi. Can actually start quite the rant about things that irritate him in a movie, so don't watch B-Movies with him (unless you're Shun, who get's even more enjoyment). Knows a lot about Special Effects and often watches Director's commentary.
Yuki: action and romcoms are her thing. Is one of the few persons who still enjoys Superhero flicks, but much like Ikumi is often annoyed with the female lead. Does also find her enjoyment in Nature Documentaries. Talks a lot during a movie, often throwing in various gossips about various actors.
Daigo n’ Shoji: Don’t watch emotional stuff with them, they will cry. Especially in Animal films like Hachiko for example.

Note
2, 19, 23, 30, I forgot the flower name but it means that I wanna be friends haha and I know that we're already kinda friends but I mean like we used to be :D
Before answering the questions I’d just like to say that I’m both surprised and happy that you do remember me! I’m just so glad :)
Now, question time!
2.) Who/what do you miss the most?
… This has to be my ex. I mean, I know it’s hard to put things back to the way it used to right now, but I do miss talking to him. Some of the best conversations I know I’ve had are the ones with him. It’s kinda weird, but I’ll get the hang of it :)
19.) What movies could you watch over & over and still love?
Hachiko and Submarine! Hachiko made me cry twice and Submarine has a superb cinematography! I love the visuals and soundtrack (well, I watched the movie because of the soundtrack)
23.) What were you doing last night at 12 am?
I was in deep sleep; came home from a tiring out-of-town and quickly fell asleep. I guess that’s it!
30.) Are you afraid of heights?
I don’t think it’s really about the height, but the sensation or feeling of falling from such is where the fear comes from :)
*It’s really nice to talk to you again @domox10!

Anime vs. Real Life: Where the Boys of given Jam out in Real Life
Due to the very grounded and musical nature of the show, it was clear from the getgo that given was going to put a lot of effort into making the instruments look as authentic as possible. And so, Mafuyu quietly wanders the streets of Tokyo, with his Gibson ES-330 guitar tightly strapped to his back at all times, trying to come to terms with tragic past events, hoping to find inspiration somewhere. But there are more elements that contribute to the anime’s atmosphere, like the fittingly moody soundtrack, or the show’s evocative soft lighting. And also the use of real-life locations plays its part making the slow-paced high school romance, about two bandmates bonding through the power of music, that much more believable. From the studio where the band practises to all the musical supply shops shown in the anime, they all actually exist, so let’s take a look at the real-world locations of given in this edition of Anime vs. Real Life!
*All images were taken with GOOGLE STREET VIEW
One of the show's most important locations is without a doubt the band’s rehearsal studio, which is located in Tokyo’s Shimokitazawa district, just a little west of Shibuya. The ERA livehouse opened in 2002 and has rehearsal studios, live spaces, and bar spaces to offer. The band rehearses in the Rinky Dink Studio, located across the building's first three floors, in case you ever want to jam out there yourself. The anime even kept the Rinky Dink Studio name, it just changed the live house name from Era to Ela in the anime.
As a setting, the Shimokitazawa district makes perfect sense for a show like given. The tucked-away district has made a name for itself as a hotspot for creative people, and has plenty of independent fashion retailers and music outlets, as well as numerous live music venues to offer.
Mafuyu and Ritsuka, both with their guitars always strapped tightly to their backs, are standing in front of Shimo-Kitazawa Station here.
This little shopping street runs south of Shimo-Kitazawa Station. The larger international brands never really settled in the area due to the narrow streets and limited parking spaces, which is why the place is still thriving with smaller independent retailers.
In one of the side streets is also the Little By Tech repair and maintenance shop (which was also correctly named in the anime), where Mafuyu got to buy his blue overdrive pedal. Ritsuka is a regular customer here.
As already mentioned, Shibuya is only a short hop away, and obviously also has tons of musical supply shops to offer.
One of them being the Ikebe Jungle Guitars shop, which is where Mafuyu only found an overpriced effect pedal. This may or may not have been the reason why the anime decided to slightly alter the shop’s name to Umibe Forest Guitars in the show.
And what’s a trip to Shibuya without a visit to the Hachiko Statue outside of Shibuya Station. The famous statue has been an extremely popular meeting point in anime and real life for ages, and was even the spot where my parents met up for the first time.
The band’s two other members, Akihiko and Haruki, as well as Ristuka’s older sister Yayoi, all attend Tokyo Gakugei University in Koganei.
However, the main setting of the show is Machida, which is located in the western part of the Tokyo Metropolis. Both Mafuyu and Ritsuka live around the area and go to school here. The spiral-shaped sculpture in front of Machida Station was in the first shot of the first episode, and you can also spot the silhouette of the statue in the anime’s opening.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to find this Poplar convenience store, which was located just south of Machida Station.
The quaint Machida Nakamise shopping arcade is also located close to Machida Station. These prolonged silent segments of Mafuyu simply wandering through the neighborhood, which really let you take in the surrounding environment and the excellent ambient sound design, is one of the show’s greatest strengths.
Mafuyu walks from the station through the shopping arcade, all the way to the small Haramachida Wakaba Park here.
The park is close to the Machida Play House, another live house, where Mafuyu works part-time. It’s also here where he meets an old acquaintance of his, who knows about the tragic past events, which have been plaguing Mafuyu for a long time.
Be sure to tune in to given this week as well, as Mafuyu seems to be travelling to Kamakura, to finally confront his past!
What do you think of the show so far? Chime in and let us know in the comments below!
