tdov was like a week ago already but I just wanna say when I came over to vacation slash help my sworn brother move flat he told me, "ever since you said you wanted to get top surgery I've been thinking about it. it's straight up number two on my bucket list"

Sandstorm dying solely to further alderheart’s pissbaby manpain made me so upset. alderheart in general just pisses me off… him and tree were both just so blatantly written to steal the arc from their she-cat counterparts lmfao (sparkpelt, sandstorm, needletail, violetshine). that’s it, that’s their purpose… similar to rootspring and nightheart. I just can’t enjoy characters whose purpose narratively is to shove the she-cats to the wayside… it happens so much in this series already

yeah 😔 it's the repetition of the archetype and the context around it that gets me- on his own, alderheart is just "guy i don't really care about", same with rootspring and tree, but the more i sit down and think "hm, why are the male characters in the series written this way and the female characters written this way? why are events ordered in a way that constantly shifts attention and sympathy back towards the male characters?" i start to get mad about lots of little tiny details, which in turn make egregious things like "arc 1 legacy character getting unceremoniously fridged by dying in a ditch somewhere for a pittance of character development her boring grandson while all of her male counterparts get comparatively way more respectful or impactful deaths" even worse somehow.

#it's also so tiring to me that when male characters are boring they are given heaps of fanon that make them sweet and memorable #but when female characters are underwritten that side of the fandom is just like 'yup she's boring! i hate her. ignoring her' #i understand that there are few genuinely well-written male characters to latch onto in the series #but people do it with every single male character regardless anyways so it's not like that even matters #i liked a lot of generic niceboy characters when i first joined the fandom but in hindsight it was all just fanon and a sense of obligation #'yeah of course i have to like alderheart and fernsong! they're good soft boys! crowfeather is a funny pathetic guy!' #nowadays i couldnt care less if alderheart and fernsong etc died in a tragic sudden minecraft creeper explosion offscreen #and im actively manifesting that it happen to crowfeather

okay but I actually do think that Sweet Nothing will stand the test of time unlike, say, lavender haze because the song itself is a rejection of the empty business of the world and the phrase sweet nothing, as deployed in the song, is about finding in the beloved freedom from the weight of crushing expectations and also the warmth of affection and simplicity.

#positive(?) notes: easy to read and keep reading. mostly interesting game ideas. excellent vocabulary #a lot of the book was already ''boohoo i'm a poor wasian boy at harvard :( boohoo i'm a white girl in tech :('' and that is SO. ANNOYING #but i soldiered on thru the surface level discussion of identity as it pertains to your life experiences #oh another positive characteristic of the book: i like how facts are presented simply at first but then revealed to have stories later on #the recontextualizing of details u thought u already knew... the power of hindsight. it was very evocative of the same experience irl #like when u find out your friend has a sister who's going to the same school as u guys and you're like oh cool i'd love to meet her #but then u learn more abt the sister's role in your friend's life and development and the complex relationship they have you're like woah #tatat #oh and the one other part of the book i liked was when sadie was saying marx prob didn't even have a fav fruit until that moment #that he discovered there was a persimmon tree in their house. that was very beautiful and sweet and kind
