Husband Plays Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx
[We upgraded to PS5 version so gotta start over]
Oh glitchy
Oh huh. Still looks like a PS2 game but like an upresed PS2 game
Still looks weird but not as weird oh no never mind look at Marinette’s face
You can actually see the textures now though
It loads a lot faster, it does kinda look better. The prerendered cutscenes look worse, but the game looks better
Why is circle the confirm
This actually feels better
“All right! Now that’s a macaron for Tikki!” That’s new. That was not a line before. There’s just more stuff in the PS5 version.
It’s like they took stuff out for PS4
Do you think he’s only allergic to pigeons or birds in general?
What is this game it’s like. Trying.
Still don’t understand why [bosses] have two health bars, but
[Ladybug spinning her yoyo] That’s more circular, too
[Tikki never saw these orbs before] but she has to know if Master Fu knows
Ah Kagami. You got fucking shafted.
I can’t stand on these [objects on the ground]. They have physics!
Oh they fixed another issue! I am thoroughly shook!
You know what I just noticed? I don’t think Alix is in this game.
Alya’s stuck in permanently sassy mode
This game is so much - buh what
Good to see that Chat Noir is still broken as shit.
“Don’t try this at home, kids!” Fuck no if I get the opportunity to run across Paris I’m gonna fucking do it
Look at the shadow. It’s just the rigging, it’s not the model
There’s a map function??
“Sounders! Take care of them!” UMMM. Do they not know what that is? Do you know what that is? [I know what sounding is?] A sounder is the tool used for sounding.
[...oh]
You can actually see her design and it looks good
Ohhh soundwave was the name of the mic brand they used
Wait I missed the friendship bit because I didn’t talk to her right then?
The return of breadfoot disease
It’s weird seeing the texture details and shit but then you see the trees are still squares
Isn’t the Liberty the boat? Why does it have a street sign?
This feels like they got the bad studio to make the game. The sudio that makes Marinette’s hair way too blue.
This series was made to have fanfiction.
I always thought Sabine did the paperwork because Tom was the baker. He’s not smart enough to do the paperwork. He’s a golden retriever.
Fu is still being an asshole. He knows what these orbs are for and isn’t saying it?
What did that do? “Made him wet.” But why?
Why is Tikki a png but Marinette is a render?
The easiest way I can put this game is unintentionally good. If you tried it the way they intended it, it’s bad.
What the fuck
I don’t remember this being this hard
Why does this game have Eminem references
For a game called Rise of the Sphinx there’s very little Sphinx happening. And there’s only 2 more locations I saw?
[You unlocked the power of Smash!] Cat Noir’s gonna smash ya
Aren’t you supposed to be writing this down since we got to new content? “Oh yeah shit”
The music is all dark and I kinda like it
[That looks super bouncy!] That wasn’t bouncy at all.
The rendering on this is still bad.
Who put a macaron in a sewer? I can kind of understand the subway but who wants to eat a sewer macaron?
What does the caterpillar have to do with the sphinx?
Push? Oh that kind of made sense. That’s the first instance of logic I think this game’s had.
The only way I can recommend people playing this game is while drunk which unfortunately I am not. Also on the PS5 because that’s the only one that looks good.
I swear each level is longer than the previous
Oh this is yellow water I don’t wanna touch that
Hey look a Mario pipe. That’s gotta be a reference right? It’s too out of place.
Which one’s the healer???
The silk looks … fine.
Stephanie you’re supposed to be writing stuff you have been missing so many things
Look when Chat does his smash move it’s like his father’s samurai form. “I could believe that’s less because of his father and more because he’s a massive weeb though.” Yes but his father’s ALSO a massive weeb
This is just boring. Tedious? Yeah, tedious.
Also I don’t know if there’s anything that’s even savable aside from a couple of the akuma designs. What does this add to the story of Miraculous?
This feels more like a mobile phone game than anything, like if each section was a minigame and then the rest is just stuff you click on
What did that button do
I just wanna be able to control the camera
[You enjoy smashing things, don’t you Cat Noir?] Yeah you wanna be next?
Why is’t there an icon for where I am on this map
It’s really hard because you don’t really know where you are
This is the first time we’re able to get all the things in a chapter because we have all the powers
Liberate the passage? What the fuck does tghat mean?
Let’s face it, the macarons are more for the side stuff, but that’s pretty cool. This solidifies that if this came out during the PS2 era it would have been beloved
A single macaron. A single macaron. A red macaron! Oh no wait there’s a blue thingy too. We still haven’t been told what these are.
Why? Why did it go that way? What the fuck is this shit?
Mayura??
Wait so she’s just acting on her own??
What is happening ow
Why does the screen keep going black?
What?
What am i supposed to do here
What the fuck was that???
How does this have anything to do with the sphinx???
[A few years back] What? WHAT? Heavy plot I guess
This feels like ship bait
Oh this is definitely a plan
What the fuck was that?
So they’ve been searching for the cat and the bug for years but that doesn’t track with the plot of the show where Emilie has only been in a coma for a year? But what? That doesn’t make sense? This game is canon but can’t be canon?
Wait I thought you could only make a sentimonster from your emotions, not the emotions of others? “No you can use emotions of others” But they NEVER said that. Even when Fu was explaining it he didn’t say that!
And why is the music now Sly Cooper?
Anyways if that’s the case couldn’t she just make Miraculouses off of his desire to have them?
But that’s also not how sentimonsters work! They don’t feed off of ambient emotions! If that was the case, the Ladybug sentimonster would have been exceptionally powerful
This would have made a lot more sense if instead of Chloe it was Lila. The story they’re saying is being told is not what I’ve watched in the show. Unless this is a dumb alternate timeline?
If they wanted to give it the ability to feed on emotions why didn’t he just akumatize the caterpillar
[I could give you a fine for being outside during lockdown!] That comment has not aged well
[There’s nothing we can do against this sentimonster] Except you beat its face in and if you break its amok, it dies!
It’s a sentimonster! You know what they’re made of!
What is the point of this? Why does there need to be a thing after every collection?
You know for a thing called rise of the sphinx, I was expecting a sphinx
I just wanna be through with this game
Let’s get it over with. Alcohol help me.
Chloe doesn’t really have negative emotions. She acts like a bitch but she’s pretty enutral or happy. Unless they’re saying her sorrow for not having the bee miraculous was so great that it did something? I don’t know
Did it just leave? Didn’t even break just popped out of existence?
I feel like we could ignore this entire game and we’d be better off for it
That necklace is clearly meant to mean something but you’re in season 5 and you have no idea
The show is bad because of the age rating it’s stuck in
Are you really surprised that the last fight is gonna be on the Eiffel Tower? They have to include it. I swear it’s part of the contract with the show
Oh I broke out of the bounds of the game. They never tested to see if you could jump over that
Speedrunning tactic? Maybe? Dunno why you’d wanna speedrun this game but hey you can
[it’s started it’s morphing phase!]It’s morphine time! Because that;s what I need to deal with this
This music does not fit miraculous ladybug at all. It feels like it belongs in a horror game.
Maybe these are the eggs. The bouncy cocoons that aren’t bouncy.
‘What the fuck” I’m sorry you expected this game to get good now?
These oddly shaped platforms are not good for platforming who the fuck knew
I don’t know if I can make that. I can make that from here though
There’s a whole lot for you to type isn’t there
Okay what the actual fuck why are these platforms moving
I have fallen into the abyss for the Great One. the Great Carl. since they haven’t given us a name I am calling him Carl.
You know I heard the name rise of the sphinx I thought it was gonna be a cool new enemy that required cosmic power upgrades for the miraculouses but nope it’s just mayura and just a sentimonster
Almost done.
Fuuuuuck it reset my location because I touched ground. The Great Carl is surely disappointed in me.
Hello let us fight
Oh man this is a great camera angle! [the camera is behind some silk]
Um what the fuck happened there? Did I sink into the garage and just couldn’t hit the servant of the Great Carl?
What the fuck that’s not where we just were! [sign behind Ladybug says Rivoli] Ravioli!
That’s not a sphinx!
It’s not a sphinx!
Aha you missed where are those lights coming from??
Uuuuuugh now I have to do a whole other cycle
It’s already halfway dead! How is it perfection?
Uuuugh fuck off with this shit!
[it’s coming back!] it never left!
Is it only vulnerable in that one spot??
This is so stupid. This is so stupid. Despair powder? That’s it’s power?
There’s no point in this cutscene if it doesn’t result in the choice of a player
When? What? How did he get those photos?
Oh we’re fighting Hawkmoth!
Oh that was the final boss
What is that thing supposed to do?
Even if he dies he’ll just get miraculous ladybugged back to life
[the butterfly purification animation plays to purify the feather] UM
AND THAT’S THE END? There’s no ending cutscene? No end credits theme??
There’s gotta be an epilogue or something
This game would’ve been better called Hawkmoth’s Evolution or Life of a Moth or something. Not Rise of the Sphinx.
Let’s just talk to Alya and end this shit
They had the opportunity to create an entire new set of lore and they just made it sentimonster bullshit
KAGAMI save this game please
Why am I drawing this ame out even further
Is this gonna be some bullshit about the strength of the human experience
Actually Hawkmoth didn’t have an akuma active when Ladybug gave into despair, so he could have just akumatized her then
KAGAMI
Nooo you only have three opportunities to be her friend
God Luka’s gonna turn this into some stupid music thing
Wait but they did that. But they JUST did that.
KAGAMI where are you why are there so few opportunities to talk to you
That’s just not Chloe. That’s just not how she acts at all. She’s a hero worshipper at her core.
Well that’s the game I think
Was it worth it

hi! can i request mermaid au where bruno falls in love with mermaid reader.💞✨
Hello there, dear! Sure thing :3 here we go! I hope you’ll like it :3
Mermaid AU: Bruno Bucciarati falls in love with a mermaid
(Under the cut for length!)
Every sailor and fisherman knew about mermaids. Someone said they had the body of a bird of prey and the head of a beautiful woman, and that their home was on the most unattainable peaks; someone else said that they lived under the sea, and that they were half human and half fish. They all agreed, however, on mermaids’ enchanting voices; if you heard a mermaid’s song, you didn’t come back as the man you were, they said. You would have always longed for the sea, to hear that voice again… it would have drawn you to madness. That was why mermaids were mostly considered guilty of many sailors and fishermen’s deaths: their songs called maelstroms and drew the fishes away, bringing months of poverty and misery on the land. Bruno, just a twelve years old child, already knew this all. He had heard those stories countless times from his father’s friends; even so, he mostly didn’t believe them, labelling them as legends and stories, created to explain natural events, or to give an explanation to someone’s sudden death. Still… a little part of him couldn’t help but to believe that there was something true about it. He just hoped that mermaids weren’t as malevolent as legends said…
He clutched to a rope, when another big wave made his father’s little boat dangerously roll, hoping once more to encounter just a benevolent mermaid. The storm that was approaching was huge and it had appeared all of sudden, and they were too far from the coast to reach it before the storm. They could just endure it and hope to have on their side every kind of benevolent entity.
“Bruno, watch out! Go inside!” his father’s words got lost in the roar of the cold and salty wind that ran over the boat, almost making it overturn. The jolt was too violent: Bruno lost the grip on his support, falling into the unforgiving sea.
Suddenly, every sound was muffled. The roar of the wind, the thunders, his father and the other fishermen’s screams… it was all far away and unintelligible. Bruno tried to break the sea surface to breathe, but every time the water pushed him down, nullifying his efforts. He was starting to feel lightheaded, his lungs seemed on fire, and his heartbeat was echoing in his ears, deafening…
Suddenly, fresh air! He could breathe again! Bruno gulped down the rainy air, grateful, clutching at the thing that was keeping him out of the violent waves. Thing… or person? Bruno turned, finding himself staring at a pair of bright and big grey eyes. What made him almost lose his grip was what was around those eyes: scales. Shiny and little scales, an iridescent dark green so similar to the girl’s hair. They almost seemed… yes, seaweed…
The girl gasped, seeing the lucidity coming back to the young boy, and hurried to throw him back on the boat. Before falling on the slimy floor, Bruno managed to take a last glimpse of iridescent green -was that a tail?- before the sea reclaimed that strange girl.
The next hours, for Bruno, rushed in a blurry. Before he could even realize it, the storm, as soon as it had arrived, vanished, allowing them to go back to the harbor; everyone already thought they were dead. No one could survive a storm like that! Everyone said it was a miracle, that some Saint, above in the sky, had watched over them… but Bruno, still scared, cold and dripping wet, knew who had saved them, and it wasn’t a saint.
It was a mermaid. He couldn’t tell it aloud, however. It didn’t feel… right. The girl didn’t seem to want someone to know he was there, and he didn’t want to put her in danger.
However, he wanted to approach her, even just to thank her. He had to find a way to come closer to her without scaring her… finally, after a couple of days spent mumbling and thinking, he came to an idea. He often found pretty shells and stones on the shore, especially when, during the night, the waves were violent and filled with treasures, and he took the prettiest and put them in his precious treasure box. He smiled, finding what he was searching for: a small stone, a perfect oval and iridescent stone. Its texture was smooth and nice thanks to the water that had modelled it, and there was a small hole, big enough for inserting in a thread. Bruno, once, had planned to make, with that stone, a pretty necklace, and to give it to his mother… but then she had left them, and she had never come back, even when she said she would have done it for sure. So, the little stone had remained in the box, unused and almost forgotten, until that moment.
It had been easy to make the necklace. He used a special thread, particularly resistant to sea water, and here it was, a pretty and unique gift. He was more than satisfied, and it was time to give it to his saviour!
He left it on a rock by the sea, far enough from the harbour to be safe for her but not too hard to reach for him. He put the necklace on the rock, near enough to the sea to allow her to take it, and then he sat down, and waited. And waited. He waited for hours, but nothing. When the harbour's bells rang for the last time of the day, at 8 p.m., he sighed, getting up. Maybe he had imagined it all, and there was no girl with scales around her eyes and seaweed hair…
A sudden splash made him jolt. He quickly turned around, catching a glimpse of a palmed hand that was quickly retracting into the sea, holding the necklace. Bruno gasped, incredulous: it was her! It was the girl!
"Hey, wait! Wait!!" he called, sprinting to the rock, but it was too late. The girl was gone.
Bruno sat down again, huffing with frustration. He was so close… however, that was the proof he needed. He wasn't crazy: she existed! Now… he just had to slowly gain her trust, day by day. It would have been a long journey… but it would have been worthy of all his efforts. He was sure about it.
-
Well, the journey had been a bit longer than what he had thought. Way longer.
It took Bruno ten years to finally come to know her. Every day, he sat down near the rock, bringing, when he could, a gift. Sometimes it was a jewel made with stones and shells, sometimes it was a little ornament he carved from the wood the waves brought to the shore. It seemed that she liked his gifts; soon, she started to leave gifts for him too. It was a slow, really slow process: it took more than two years to just be in each other's presence. They stayed a little far from each other, studying and staring at their faces, without talking. After a while, he started to take with him various books, and to read them aloud. She seemed to like it: she rested her head on her arms, staring intently at him and listening attentively. Sometimes she even closed her eyes, to enjoy his voice better.
Starting to talk for real had been the next step. She trusted him enough to reveal her name, and to open up about a few things about mermaid society and life. He was utterly fascinated by her stories; it was like being in a fairytale…
At the same time, he talked to her about land things; how humans lived on the land, their legends, their stories. She couldn't have enough of it; the more she knew, the more she wanted to know. A boy who loved the sea and a girl who loved the land: what a strange pair they were. What a perfect pair of friends…
Friends, yes, that was what they were. But… Bruno had started to feel pretty weird around her. When he saw her smile, so sincere and sunny, his heart started to beat faster; when her eyes stared in his, he felt drawn to her, as she was a magnet…
He knew what it was. He knew that what he was feeling was way more than a simple friendly feeling, or even a simple crush. It was deep, and sincere, and it had roots in his true heart. It wasn't something he could not think about or eradicate. He could just… live with it. And he felt that he had to be honest to her, and tell her the truth about his feelings. He knew it was foolish to even think about having a normal life with her: she was a daughter of the sea, and he was a son of the land. Their worlds weren't meant to be together. But maybe… maybe they could meet in the middle, and share at least something. It would have been better than nothing… and, if she didn't want to, he wouldn't have forced her. They would have stayed friends, if that was what she wanted.
He sat down on the rock, as usual, and waited for her. Her head peaked from the water, and she smiled at him, bright and marvellous as the sun, as she was approaching him. She hoisted herself up, resting her arms on the rock, near his leg. Bruno smiled at her, happy, but then worry and agitation took his heart again. It was the moment…
"Y/N, listen, I… I have to tell you something…" he started, fiddling with a loose thread of his shirt. God, why it was so difficult…
"I know, Bruno. I already know it." she interrupted him, looking at his fingers. She could feel Bruno's eyes, those wonderful eyes, blue as the clearest sea she had ever seen, on her, filled with surprise. Oh, she had known about his feelings for a long time, maybe even before he had noticed them… because they were the same feelings that filled her heart to the brim. Even so… how could they love each other? She was a mermaid and he was a human… they were not meant to be together. Even their friendship was something… unnatural, something that shouldn't have existed…
However, it did exist, and it was strong. So, maybe… maybe their worlds weren't so far. Maybe there was a place, somewhere, where they could live together…
"What can we do?" he whispered, almost not daring to hope. His fingers searched hers, softly caressing the tiny scales on her hand. She stayed in silence for a while, looking at his long fingers gently brushing her hand. His fingertips were rough and callous, due to the heavy work he did on his father's boat. Still… they were so gentle and delicate on her scales. It was such a wonderful feeling…
She held his hand in a strong and determined grip. She had taken her decision, and he already knew what it was just by looking at her in the eyes.
"We'll do whatever we need to in order to be together." she answered, finding her same desperate determination in Bruno's eyes.
They would have fought against both land and sea, if needed, to be together. That was a promise.

Translation of the Interviews Famitsu / Dengeki By the user: xXShuyaXx by Mognet Central
It has been about one year since release. How about we look back on everything up until now?
Tabata - We sure came a long way. The Royal Edition was originally planned to be the conclusion and finale to FFXV, so for now it feels like we have accomplished what we had set out to do at first.
Even among the DLC that were released after FFXV, Episode Ignis that was released last year on December 13th introduced a divergence in the ending, which became quite a topic.
Terada - In E.Ignis, we didn't just want to add to the story of the game, we wanted to illustrate Ignis where he refuses and fights against destiny (fate).
Tabata - It's not simply looking into alternate possibilities, it was to make it ''Ignis' game''. In order for Ignis to define his own destiny. FFXV was created with the intention to run towards a single conclusion, but with E.Ignis we wanted to make a game for players to become Ignis and fight against fate.
So as a result, the alternate ending was born.
Terada - Yes that's correct. The ''opposing thy fate'' theme was decided early in the development and with that we thought about what kind of ending would make the users most happy. Along with many revisions to the script, it became ''that'' ending.
So that means the conclusion wasn't decided from the start?
Terada - ''Where do we draw the line'' was the difficult part. Do we leave it to the imagination of the fans? Do we do everything? Such considerations became a hurdle and we made adjustments and changes until the very end.
As a result, there were much praise from the fans. There are even some who say, ''This is the true ending'', but in the official perspective, where and how does that conclusion stand?
Tabata - Simply, the main game is canon and 'that' ending is a 'if' scenario.
Terada - This is shown in the split of the scenario. In the main game, Ignis chooses to support Noctis who put his own life on the line to save the world. But what if the player chose to change that fate... and so we made E.Ignis with emphasis on that.
In the 'if' scenario, the final confrontation with Ardyn isn't depicted. How does Noct save the world without paying the price?
Tabata - Ahh... that (laughs) That, is for the development to come.
Terada - We intentionally left that part ambiguous........ (bitter laugh) Even in the 'if' route, the fact that in order to save the world Noct's power is needed, hasn't changed. In order to focus on the theme of the episode, we purposely decided not to focus too much in regards to Ardyn. In that regards, we are thinking about furthering the development in that part around Episode Ardyn that will be released soon.
So that means the story updates from now will expand?
Tabata - Yes. If I were to say that the fans wanted more and beyond to fill the gaps of the main story, I don't think that would be the case. Even in the development point of view, I think if we did that, FFXV will never be able to come to a conclusion. So we are thinking about new developments that are different from the DLC's up until now. The spearhead of this goal is Episode Ardyn which was highly sought out for in the survey. And as so, as mentioned in the ATR, there might also be a Episode Luna. Continuing up to 2019, we have decided to make 4 episodes.
That is great news!
Terada - In the story updates from now, we want players to love the characters more. It seems like there were many who cried in Episode Ignis, so we want to make the next epsisode where people will smile.
What is the intention behind the release of the Royal and Windows Editions?
We have rebuilt the game to be enjoyed on PC for the Windows Edition and as for the Royal Edition, it is the compiliation of all the updates up until now. By compiling all of the additional contents, we think it will be a product that is easy for first-time players to head into.
For the current FFXV users, there is an additional DLC ''Royal Pack'', which includes content only included in the Royal Edition correct?
Tabata - That's correct. In the Royal Edition, we have expanded the final map of Insomnia, not only that, we have also prepared numerous additional content. For everyone who continued to enjoy the game, it has become something that has a lot of worth.
In the expansion of Insomnia, does it also include additional events?
Tabata - We have included story events that are connected with the Comrades DLC.
Kuroda - After the 10 year skip as depicted in Comrades, it is connected from when Noct and his friends return. There is also the perspective of the Glaives from Comrades. There are additional quests and furthermore the story has also been expanded.
That is great news for the users of Comrades. Also, will the contents of the main story change with that?
Kuroda - Without changing the eventual confrontation with Ardyn, we are adding more content for during the journey. Like the Past Kings blocking the path for example. Originally the Past King of Lucis were suppose to aid Noctis, but why they are hindering ones path, will all be explained in the story.
Regarding the Past Kings of Lucis, will Noct's late King also appear?
Terada - Although Regis won't appear, there will be differing 3 types respectively of Past Kings.
Kuroda - Differing from the main story, new boss monsters Cerberus and Omega will make an appearance. These kinds of monsters will be appearing in the last chapter, the difficulty has also been increased and as such we have also added the ''True Phantom Sword'' ability to aid players in battle.
''True Phantom Sword'' (Can't remember what it was called in English sorry) seems powerful just from the name (laughs).
Kuroda - Yes (laughs) You will be able to use the ''True Phantom Sword'' ability after collecting all the Phantom Swords and you will be able to constantly(?) fight in Phantom mode. If you just hold the attack button, then the current Phantom mode is stronger, but if you time your actions and attacks correctly, it will be very powerful. With the current ally the commands, combined with special abilities, you will be able to enjoy fights only found in the Royal Edition.
This seems great for those who want to enjoy technical combat with Noctis.
Kuroda - That's right. The concept for Royal Edition is ''expanding the freedom of play'', so we are expanding the maps and adding various other components.
Tabata - Among the additional components is boat fishing. While on the cruiser en route to Altissia, you can freely travel around the ocean and fish while looking at fish in the ocean. We also have prepared a quest that includes a fishing line.
Kuroda - Noctis is also very cheerful when he is boat fishing (laughs) You can also get new recipehs by catching fish.
With the upgrade for the Type-D, does this mean that freedom in travel has improved?
Kuroda - Yes. With this, travelling on the ground, air and sea has been implemented, so traveling has become very pleasant.
Also, first-person mode will be implemented, but is this feature only for Noctis?
Tabata - It's for Noctis only. You can change between first and third person at any time. In regards to the implementation of the first-person mode, we had many requests since development (of the game), we originally to implement the feature only in the Windows Edition. However, if we also implemented it into the Royal Edition, we thought that this could bring a fresh new experience for existing FFXV players, so we decided to implement it into both editions. If you play in first-person mode, you can experience the vastness of the world and experience the relationship with the bro's first-hand. We thought it could improve the immersion.
Kuroda - It especially has an impact when fighting against large monsters.
Tabata - I am sure that you will be able to experience the beauty of the FFXV's world like if it was seeing through your own naked eyes.
First-person mode and open world has a good affinity.
Terada - So as for the vast playability, there are supplemental additions in regards to the world of the game, such as newspapers and book that has been added in the games various locations. So even for those players who simply enjoy the world and the lore, they can enjoy the game.
The release of the Windows Edition demo is coming very close.
Tabata - Yes. Fundamentally it's kind of like the FFXV demo ''Judgement Disc'' +α, you will be able to play from Chapter 0 Chapter 1.
The Windows Edition will have 8K support, but please tell us the reason behind it.
Tabata - Since we are already doing this, we thought that we wanted to deliver something that could be enjoyed with the highest of specs at their fullest extent.
Aramaki - The Windows Edition supports native 4K, so basically the textures become sharper and diagonal polygons become very clean as well. Also, same at the PS4 version, HDR10 will also be supported.
So that means you can enjoy the beauty of the game at the ultimate quality. Will 60FPS and beyond gameplay also be supported?
Aramaki - It will be different depending on the GPU so I cannot say, but with a Nvidia GPU loaded PC you can achieve 90FPS at 2K and 40FPS at 4K. If you reduce the setting, 20-30FPS at 8K is also supported. Furthermore, in the games configuration settings, there are about 10 settings added recently besides the resolution setting, so you will be able to fine-tune depending on your specs.
In regards to the usage of the Nvidia tech, what does that mean for AMD hardware?
Aramaki - We are making it so that all AMD hardware including lower ends will work. However, AMD performance compared to Nvidia hardware will be inferior (when using Nvidia tech).
Then Nvidia hardware is recommended. Mods will also be supported in the Windows Edition, so you will be able to experience a unique experience not found in home consoles.
Aramaki - We plan to release mod support shortly after release of the game. You will be able to have a surreal experience like changing the character model of everyone to Kenny Crow for example (laughs) You will also eventually be able to freely change things around with user-created model data. Also, eventually we will release an official platform where you can customize the map and add quests.
Are you also considering content exclusive to the Windows Edition?
Tabata - At the moment, we are at the stage where we just want to finish what we set out to complete, so I cannot say with certainty. But mods and multiplayer quests may be improved. But story related content will not differ from the console version.
Lastly, please tell us about the future of FFXV.
Tabata - Windows Edition for the PC and also the Royal Edition for the home consoles, we were able to announce them as a short pit-stop. Furthermore, FFXV Pocket Edition for mobile is also in distribution. With this, we have released FFXV, optimized for each of it's 3 different consoles as planned. From now on, so that each can be enjoyed for a long time, we plan to propose the conclusion of FFXV one more time. Along with the 4 additional Episodes, please look forward to the development of FFXV!

Today I'll be showing you how to fly in Mafia 3 using this Mafia 3 mod for the PC called Noclip. Noclip allows.
The world isn't so large that it needs fast travel. I understand in games like skyrim where the world is large and horse is fastest way of travel, but in mafia where the fastest cars can go over 100 mph, it's just not needed. Also, it's not like you have to slow down near the cops, just don't hit anyone near cops.

The greatest problem with these open up world games is definitely that it consists of a great deal of generating back again and on, but you can say the same with games like GTA or Just Trigger. The only AI issues I've seen, is arbitrary people strolling out on the road in front of you, just to cease in the middle of the street, rather of shifting apart from your vehicle. Fast Travel In Mafia 3 Release
This is a fairly lazy critique imo. Not really just in the literal sense.I can know that sometimes people really have got a really busy life-style and they want to reduce down on period consuming duties in-game, and just jump between the great bits. But for a game like this l can't find why I would want to do that. The cars (and the music) are usually outstanding. New Bordeaux is usually fun to discover. Every region has a different feel.
And most importantly, it doesn't take you hours to generate from one end to the othér,merely 5 to 10 minutes. Unless you really feel appreciated to abide by every traffic regulation or you're scared to phase on the gasoline and float into the sides. I wear't thoughts the lack of fast Travel either, but I think they do a shitty thing with those various goals.
What To Know Before Going To Europe
I put on't get why everyone of those vehicles and Moonshine vehicles wants to become in the Bayou. I get why the vessels are presently there, apparent, but they could've spread those vehicles and vehicles even more around the chart. How does this relatie?
Well, sometimes when trying to maximize a racket profits I just think like fuck, ain'capital t gonna drive all the way to the base of the map for a ridiculous truck transport to generate more kickback so I can purchase more weaponry. Those several times I do believe about fast Vacation, not hoping it, but it could'vé produced inspired me even more.
Each design has special traits that create generating it a unique encounter. This indicates not really all vehicles are fit for all reasons, therefore you'll want to change cars usually, based on the landscape and the job at hands. The best models are pretty uncommon, and knowing where to find them will conserve you a great deal of time. In this guide, we're heading to show you the greatest car locations in Mafia 3.Mafia 3 Best CarStealing vehicles will be one of the fundamental activities in the sport. You'll do it all the period.

On the downside, it attracts unwanted attention. This means you'll often wreck a vehicle obtaining rid of the wanted position you obtained by robbing it in the initial place. Messy company. If this can be a problem for you, you might want to make investments in Burke's perk that enables for stealthy car-jackings.Aside from heading fast and having tight control over your vehicle, there are usually other reasons to appear for the greatest car. Some of them are usually achievements like the following:.

The Mafia series has seen multiple hiatuses between games, with eight years between the first two and six between the second and third. It has now been four years since the third entry, but 2K Games is set to remake the first game as part of a new release known as Mafia Trilogy. While that version is not out for a few more months, they recently released the remastered Mafia II along with including the already existing Mafia III that is now known in the collection as Mafia III: Definitive Edition.
Tumblr media
When Mafia III was originally released, there was certainly some controversy about the change in setting. While the prior two games had the traditional Italian mafia akin to Scarface and The Sopranos, Mafia III was taking a different route by having an African American protagonist that is not part of the traditional mob seen in the first few games. https://loadnfc639.tumblr.com/post/655844989264412672/yanmar-portable-diesel-generator-manual. Instead, Lincoln Clay is a soldier that has just returned back to the fictional New Bordeaux that is based on New Orleans from Vietnam and agrees to help some family and friends with the Haitian mob that have come knocking. Soon after he tries to work out a debt to the Italian mafia that his surrogate father has accrued. This ends up going very poorly and leaves Lincoln wanting revenge against mob boss Sal Marcano and his mafia family. This leads Lincoln to having to gather a unique crew of different partners to help take them down, which is the central focus for most of the game.
Can You Fast Travel In Mafia 3
The story is largely carried by the incredibly captivating Lincoln Clay and the other characters around him, with a solid story surrounding them. Mafia III: Definitive Edition was not afraid to tackle much more intense and dark themes than in the past, which still holds up well now four years later from the original release. While it is definitely a different style than the first couple games, the story is very much worth experiencing here and may be the best of the trilogy in that area.
Where Mafia III suffers most though is the very unoriginal game structure as you play through Lincoln’s story in a once again large sandbox open world experience. The original city of New Bordeaux this time around is larger than both of the first two games combined, but that kind of is a hindrance in some ways as you’re consistently having to drive across the map for new missions. New Bordeaux itself is split up into nine different districts across nine chapters, each of which have a story mission that is split up for you to complete. The repetitive nature of these missions though is where the game really struggles.
Within each district, you have to take over both of the rackets that are found in that location. Once you have successfully done this, a third mission within the chapter will open where you have to take out the person in charge of that district. There is a little more to do in the later chapters, but the biggest problem is that the structure is especially tedious and will have you growing tired of everything in no time. This feels like a course correction from the emptier world found in the previous games, though they may have gone a bit too far in the other direction.
Tumblr media
On the plus side, Mafia III does introduce side missions this time around, a major flaw of the previous game. While not available right away, you’ll eventually get access to side missions that branch off from the main story. These include things such as helping out the underbosses by completing tasks for them to gain favor. While they aren’t that most involved overall, they are better than having nothing extra to do like in Mafia II.
The gameplay itself is really nothing to write home about either, albeit a little more refined here. One of the somewhat frustrating elements of the previous game was that you had to press A to leave cover every time, but now you can move much more freely when trying to move between cover or be stealthy. You have the option to adjust aim assist to the level you prefer, which can make the game a bit too easy. There are plenty of guns to choose from here though, with the ability to set them to a wheel and choose between them.
Compared to its predecessors, Mafia III has a major edge in the visuals department. The recent Mafia II: Definitive Edition was definitely more polished visually, but there is still no real comparison between it and Mafia III. Mafia III: Definitive Edition looks great all around, with the character models and environments looking much more realistic. The performance on Xbox One was pretty solid most of the time, with some slowdown here and there when too much was happening on screen. Thankfully, the character movement in general felt much more natural than in the prior games.
While Mafia III: Definitive Edition is literally supposed to be the same game with a new name and all DLC included, somehow Hangar 13 completely messed up one aspect of this game in the included update. Mafia III was given Xbox One X and PS4 Pro support after the release of the game, which added HDR and 4K support to the game to make it look even better. In what is a baffling mistake, somehow this latest update has completely removed this support, now giving you no way to use 4K on consoles. This is something that absolutely has to be patched in, but there is no way it should have ever happened in the first place, especially when this was a free “upgrade” for those that already owned the game.
Mafia as a series has always had a great soundtrack to match the time period, but Mafia III takes this to another level entirely. With the game being set in the late ’60s, the music was ripe for the picking from the era and Hangar 13 did not disappoint. These include songs from artists such as The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Johnny Cash, as the game offers over 100 different songs in total. The stellar soundtrack will constantly have you taking longer routes in your vehicle just to finish an entire song, which at least somewhat helps the fact that the game lacks fast travel.
Mafia III: Definitive Edition somehow managed to improve in one way by including all of the prior DLC, while also taking multiple steps backwards by somehow removing support for Xbox One X, even as a mistake. The story of Lincoln Clay is still enthralling and handles some very dark themes quite well, but the lifeless open world structure found in Mafia III: Definitive Edition really hinders what could have been the best game in the trilogy.
The Verdict
While not anywhere near as glitch ridden as the Mafia II remaster, Mafia III: Definitive Edition adds nothing more than the previously released DLC along with the very strange removal of Xbox One X support that was added to the original release after launch. Lincoln Clay’s story is still well worth experiencing a first time, but there is no real reason to venture back to New Bordeaux with this latest release as part of the Mafia Trilogy.

here’s the draft of my video game essay if anyone wants to read it (or help edit)
kay two notes, this is a script for a video, so places where there are weird notes are because those are for the video part and also I'm trying to cut maybe a minute out of it, so if you want to help edit it, do it ruthlessly
Costuming is important to games. There are some who knock it out. You often end up seeing those looks over and over again at conventions, during Halloween, even with enthusiastic kids with chill parents. Those looks don’t happen by accident. Of course they don't. They are carefully crafted by people trained to do so: a costume designer. They aren’t often considered as a typical and integral part of the game development process as other positions. But their efforts enhance the game world while also going largely unnoticed.
Take this example. I'll make a guess: you aren't assuming that that guy in your class with the boat shoes and “Vineyard Vines” shirt is trying to say something in the way he dresses. But, intentional or not, he is. At the very least, he’s telling you what social groups he belongs to. But he could be telling you what he values, what his socioeconomic status is, what his gender his, what the weather is like, and more. All this happens through what he wears. Clothing and textiles have huge capacities to convey information. And they belong to a language that a lot of us can understand. You know, since most of us exist in a world where the majority of people around us are wearing clothing. And luckily for creators, this language isn’t limited to the real world.
In a book, the author has to describe what a character is wearing in enough detail for the reader to understand the situation, and that can take quite a bit of time, or paragraphs, to do. The color and texture and shape of someone’s clothes can be hard to describe when a lot of people don’t know the words used to describe fabrics. In a more visual medium, that message may take equally as long to create. But the audience receives that message in a fraction of the time. We don’t have to know the words. We only have to be able to understand what we see. A flowy dress is a flowy dress. Dirty clothes look like dirty clothes. Belts are belts. Even if we don’t quite know what they’re doing…. (Kingdom Hearts) This is a huge storytelling advantage for costume design.
When video games were first appeared in the 1970s, game hardware was more like our modern calculators than our TVs and consoles. Technology improved over the next decade, but there were still massive limitations in what developers could actually achieve. And this forced them to get creative in addressing a key question. How do you make a recognizable character in as few pixels as possible?
For Mario, who first showed up in Donkey Kong in 1981, the designers made particular decisions which lead to him looking the way he does today. He wore a hat so that animators didn’t have to try to animate his hair and a mustache so that they didn’t have to animate a mouth. And those iconic overalls exist to help the player know where his torso ended and his arms began. These were practical choices. And they have completely shaped the most iconic character and franchise of video game history.
This is a novelty born out of necessity, though. This isn’t how most characters are designed. Characters don’t end up looking how they do by accident. And that’s when costume designers become so important. Costume designers put an incredible amount of thought and time into designing a character’s look.
“When you’re designing anything that’s based in a particular locale or time period (even if you’re not, really), research lends an invaluable legitimacy and depth to your design; the real world is generally way more interesting than what we can come up with on a blank sheet of paper… It’s impossible to recreate the variety and cultural context of a time period out of whole cloth, so you might as well lean on the resources history has been so generous as to provide for us.” Claire Hummel
Characters have to be unique, identifiable, well-suited for the genre and setting they’re in. And if they’re not, there has to be reasons that will tell us something that's 180* different about that character.
Unfortunately, most of us aren’t spending a lot of time trying to “read” a character’s outfit. We may be actually looking at it for the entire course of the game, but might not consider what it’s supposed to mean. It’s an invisible communication. We get the basic message and never realize there was a message at all. The hours and hours the designers poured into writing the perfect message gets forgotten, shoved into the bottom of the pile. And it shouldn’t.
We tend to think that costumes that look more like our everyday outfits aren’t as planned or as valuable as costumes that are more… ambitious. When costuming falls into this category, it is essentially invisible to us. This phenomenon isn’t limited to video games either. Every winner for the costume design Oscar over the past few decades has gone to either a fantasy or period based flick. But there is no less thought put into designing Franklin’s (GTA) look than there went into making Siegmeyer’s (Dark Souls).
Games wouldn’t exist like they do if designers weren’t putting the effort and consideration that they do. And games are better for it! “The movement and texture of clothing really adds to the realism of the game. Often I look at games and everything seems so flat.” Lyn Paolo
Designers do research, and sketching, and tests, and review, and then possibly more research, and sketching, and final drafts, all until the developers find a design (or designs) they want to use.
And they have to nail it, or the effectiveness of the whole game can be put at risk. “When the design feels inconsistent with the world, I’m distracted. Fiction bears the burden of being hyper real. To make a story we know isn’t true convincing, it has to avoid plot holes and take place in a consistent world. The moment that façade is shattered, players may have a harder time staying engrossed in the game.” (JennyJackProse) This is a sentiment shared by a lot of players. The anachronism is jarring. So designers have to make sure they put the extra work in to make a design feel appropriate. And, a lot of the time, they don’t even know which game they are designing for when they start their work. Lyn Paolo works on shows like “Scandal” and “Shameless” and also a little known game called GTA V. She created all  her designs for the games based solely on design boards given to her by the developers. She had no title, no series name, absolutely nothing. And she helped build a cohesive, diverse world.
Games have come astronomically far over the past four decades. They look more and more real every year and try to achieve bigger and bigger goals. Designers these days aren’t as limited by technology in how they can make a character look. Costume design for video game characters these days is almost identical to the design done for TV shows, plays, and movies. In fact, there are plenty of costume designers who have worked across these mediums, like Lyn Paolo.
Designers these days aren’t free from limitations, of course. Those restrictions have just taken on a different shape. Designers still have to consider setting, genre and everything else taken into consideration when planning a character’s look. The major issue is that there isn’t enough money to achieve everything they may want to do.
The cost of games continues to skyrocket as the visual fidelity does. And a lot of consumers have decided that they aren’t willing to pay more than the standard $60 price tag established when games were much cheaper to produce. I honestly can’t blame the standard consumer. That's considering that I am a broke college student who might be able to buy only one full-priced game a year. There are competing drives here that are going to limit what designers and developers are going to achieve. Which is going to force creative solutions in new ways.
Think about how many games that have come out in the past few years where you never see another person on screen. (Show Firewatch, Amnesia, Portal, Layers of Fear, FNaF) There’s quite a few isn’t there? Designing a believable human model is hard, and things that are difficult often end up costing more money in the end. So a lot of developers have decided to nix the presence of another person entirely to cut costs. This isn’t great for video game costume designers, but it's understandable from the developer's perspective. And It’s unfortunate that this critical aspect of storytelling is going to be present only in the biggest Triple A games . Which it might considering the standoff over pricing.
A good game obviously doesn’t need great costume design, or even other characters at all, but it can take a game from good to phenomenal. The world becomes lived in, diverse, maybe a little broken. The playable character isn’t some empty shell we inhabit. They’re someone with a personality, drives and faults we may or may not share. They cease to be Mary Stus and Sues and become actual beings.
We should make sure to take a second and really appreciate the work that costume designers do and they’ve contributed to our favorite games. Go on. Hug your local game designer.

Break Through is a podcast series about making. Making discoveries, making a difference in the community and making the world a better place. It’s the stories of startups and inventors who are developing products that have social value by solving real world problems. It’s about artisans and entrepreneurs who have broken through the mold to live their best lives.

Welcome to episode number five of Break Through, a NextFab-made podcast series. This time our guest is Mel Sage of Sage Woodworks, a Philadelphia-based artist whose custom-fabricated designs use nature and typography to produce stunning and unique pieces. Throughout the conversation, you’ll learn about Mel’s journey from architect to entrepreneur, how she found a sense of community at NextFab, and advice for those who aspire to make a living from making.
Ron Bauman: Good morning, Melanie. How are you today?
Mel Sage: Morning. I’m good. How are you?
Ron Bauman: I’m good. Bright and early on a Monday morning.
Mel Sage: Yep.
Ron Bauman: Thanks for joining us here at NextFab, South Philadelphia. So, why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Mel Sage: Okay. I’m Mel Sage. I am from the area originally, and I have a background in architecture. I have my bachelor in architecture. I went to school down South in Clemson, South Carolina, and I graduated in 2016. And I immediately moved to New York City, where I did a couple odd jobs and then I ended up at an architecture firm there. I worked at, it was like high-end residential firm. And I worked there for about a year and a half, and I worked on a five-story building in DC for most of the time that I was there. And I was always sort of interested in fabrication ever since college. So even when I was at the firm, I was interested in building the site models there, and I didn’t always get to do that. So when I did, it was a really exciting time for me.
Mel Sage: I don’t know if you’re familiar with site models and architecture, but that stacking of the topography was always really beautiful to me. That’s where I got the idea for what I do now, which is wooden wall hangings. I take topography maps, and I underlay them in AutoCAD, and trace the topographies of different places. And then I cut out the wood on the laser cutter and stack them in more of an artistic way. I take a little bit of artistic liberty there.
Mel Sage: But yeah, so I decided that I wanted to leave New York when I realized that I wanted to pursue this, but it was so expensive in New York. I was looking at wood shops there, and they were like $800 a month just to be a member. So, I figured maybe I would come back to my roots, come back to the Philadelphia area where I know it’s a little more affordable, and I found NextFab just through online searches. And their membership is, I think, a great deal.
Mel Sage: My lease was about to end, so I was like, “I’m just going to up and move to Philly.”
Ron Bauman: Nice.
Mel Sage: So, I moved here and immediately started working at NextFab, and it’s been great. I’ve met a lot of people that are also in the same boat as me. It’s been fun to get to know people here.
Ron Bauman: Yeah. That’s awesome. Was there a tipping point up in New York that you said “That’s it. I’ve had it. I’m done with architecture. I want to pursue this dream that I have.”?
Mel Sage: Yeah, I guess the tipping point was when I found myself sneaking away from my desk to hop on the laser cutter at work, and I was designing things like in CAD in my spare time, and hoping that my boss didn’t see. That was probably my tipping point. Also, I took a woodworking class when I was in Brooklyn, and it was a six-week course, and that was really fun. And I just found it super therapeutic. All of that came together, and then again, with my lease ending, I needed to make a quick decision on it. So, I put in my two weeks.
Ron Bauman: Cool. Was woodworking something that you were always interested in? Or was this something that developed in your time as an architect?
Mel Sage: I would say it developed pretty slowly. When I was in school, in college, I would always use the wood shop whenever I could. I’m not a classically-trained woodworker. I’ve trained myself on most of the machines that I use. But yeah, I would work in the wood shop at school and I would use the CNC router at school whenever I could, and the laser cutter. I was really interested in digital fabrication. I would say more so than woodworking, but I always was really interested in wood as a material. I would make a lot of my models in school out of wood when I could. I was just drawn to wood.
Ron Bauman: Nice. What do you find passionate? What inspires your creativity?
Mel Sage: I would have to take it way back. My mom-mom is who taught me just how to incorporate art into my life. Not that I draw inspiration from that everyday obviously, but I do a lot of painting with what I do now, even though I’m not necessarily drawing figures or anything. But whenever I pick up a paint brush, I think of her. I hang out with her sometimes. She doesn’t really paint anymore, but we still talk about art.
Ron Bauman: Awesome. You find inspiration through through mom-mom, any other sources of inspiration?
Mel Sage: Yeah. I still have that architectural, I don’t know what I would call it. There’s something in me that’s still drawn to architecture, so I still follow some big name architects. So I would say like Bjarke Ingels is a big one. Zaha Hadid, who obviously was a female in the industry. I follow their work just on social media and stuff, and just keep up with what they’re producing. Not that their work necessarily relates to what I do now, but I definitely draw inspiration from their textures and their structures that they come up with.
Next, Mel tells us about her new career path, the community here at NextFab and her transition into teaching.
Mel Sage: When I came to NextFab, there was definitely a big jump from working for the man per se, to just doing my own thing. And it’s just made me so much happier in my day to day life. Being able to set my own schedule is amazing.
Ron Bauman: Be your own boss.
Mel Sage: Exactly. And being able to just come here and work straight through the day. I don’t think about how much time I’m putting into my work day because I’m just passionate about what I’m doing. Because at the architecture firm, there were times when I would be there until 2:00 AM on a Saturday, crazy hours. But here, I don’t think about it. I’ll come in on the weekend and I’m having fun, and it’s therapeutic. And like I said, I’ve met a lot of other makers here that are in a similar boat to me, like in an entrepreneurial sense. And I’ve had lunch meetings with people that are also working in the shop that we just talk through ideas and it’s way more casual than what I used to do being in a firm. And it makes for like a lot more of a relaxed lifestyle I would say. But I’m still like working my ass off.
Ron Bauman: Cool. So, talk to me more about the community here at NextFab and how that’s helped you get to where you’re at today.
Mel Sage: I would say I typically meet someone almost every time I come in here, someone new. And it’s super exciting, whether I’m just walking past one of the workbenches and seeing a new interesting thing that someone’s making, or just a new face. I try to say hello to as many people as I can, because there are a lot of people in here making really cool stuff. I’ve met people that make traditional woodworking stuff, to people who are making large-scale digital fabricated stuff on the CNC router.
Mel Sage: So, it’s really all types of projects that are going on, and people are really easy to talk to about how to make things for free. I don’t need to take a class to learn how to use certain machines because people are really friendly and if I see someone working on something, I’ll just ask if they can show me how it’s done really quickly and people are really friendly here.
Ron Bauman: So that knowledge sharing is really a really important element of the community here.
Mel Sage: Yes. Yeah, knowledge sharing I would say is definitely. It’s very open here, and it’s a very nice relaxed community.
Ron Bauman: And you’ve taken that next step to actually, you teach here as well.
Mel Sage: Yeah. Yeah, so I do teach here part time. I teach introduction to Adobe Illustrator and Illustrator for laser cutting. And I’m about to start teaching Rhino too.
Ron Bauman: Oh, nice.
Mel Sage: Those are all programs that I learned in school and throughout my architectural career. That’s been a cool transition too, and definitely has integrated me more into NextFab and just getting to know the staff better and stuff like that.
Ron Bauman: Sure. What’s your favorite piece of equipment here in the shop?
Mel Sage: Good question. I think my favorite piece of equipment would probably be, I love the laser cutter, but I feel like I know it too well for it to be exciting for me or I don’t know. In the actual wood shop I would say the table saw, it’s really fun to just like get into a groove on it and yeah, just rip through stuff. So yeah, probably the table saw.
Ron Bauman: Do you work in any other departments? You work in metalworking?
Mel Sage: I don’t. I would love to learn more metal stuff. I should probably sign up for some classes soon. I feel like I get so enthralled in what I’m doing that I forget that I can take all of these awesome classes here. So, that’s definitely something on my list.
Ron Bauman: Awesome. Do you ever collaborate with any of the other members on projects?
Mel Sage: I haven’t collaborated with anyone yet, but like I said, I’ve talked to other makers about how to make certain things, so currently I just got asked to do a commission for someone’s wedding where I’m going to be making this mountainous scene with wood, and then it’s going to be like the guest book, so people can sign it at the wedding. And I’ve been talking to my friend Emily who, she’s an amazing woodworker. She’s been woodworking for years.
Ron Bauman: Emily, she’s a member here?
Mel Sage: Emily Bunker.
Ron Bauman: Oh yeah, sure. Of course.
Mel Sage: Yeah. She’s been guiding me in different ways that I can make this piece because she has more technical knowledge in the wood shop than I do.
Ron Bauman: Mel goes on to tell us about her inspirations, why she loves using laser cutting and answers the age-old question, “Why wood?”.
Mel Sage: I think wood, especially with what my product is about right now, which I draw a lot of inspiration from nature and topography, so wood being more of a natural material, that’s what drew me to it. And I always have just been drawn to wood. Like I said, when I was in college, I would make my models out of wood for whatever reason. There’s just a quality of it. I think the fact that you can stain it, or paint it, or sand it in a certain way, you can change the look of it pretty easily. And the grain obviously is beautiful, and follows that look that topography has as well. So, I think there’s an interesting connection to nature through using wood as a material.
Ron Bauman: How does the laser cutting come into play?
Mel Sage: I design everything through sketching first, and then I’ll design it on the computer. And when I say sketching, some of my pieces are just straight pieces. So, I don’t do any of the curvature aspect. With the straight pieces, I design that through sketching, and then I’ll take it to my computer. With the topographic stuff, I had literally just traced topo maps on my computer, so not much sketching.
Mel Sage: Once I create everything digitally in AutoCAD, then I’ll send it all over to Adobe Illustrator, and get everything formatted for the laser cutter. And so with my pieces, and I’ll show you later, I create these tabs and numbers to each of the pieces of wood because they’re going to start stacking on each other. So, it ends up being sort of a big puzzle.
Ron Bauman: Okay. Like Jenga?
Mel Sage: Yeah. All of these pieces are numbered, so I know where to place them when I’m actually assembling it. And so with the laser cutter, all of my pieces are laid out just on a flat surface. And then I’ll have the laser cutter come in and do all of my cutting and scoring of all of the tabs and the numbers.
The discussion moved towards the business-side of Sage Woodworks, where Mel sells her art pieces, and some of the challenges of being an entrepreneur.
Mel Sage: I do local markets as much as I can, and I just recently joined a gallery up in Brooklyn. So, I’m sort of doing both of those scenes right now, the market scene and the gallery scene. And I’m kind of like straddling that right now. I’m not really sure which direction I’ll end up falling on more heavily. But yeah, I make an inventory for those shows, and then I try to keep my inventory up as much as I can. But obviously I’m just a single maker right now, so we’ll see if I can get my inventory where I need it.
Ron Bauman: And you’re also a part of Good Measure, correct?
Mel Sage: Yeah. I sell pieces in Good Measure right now with through Ross Stoops.
Ron Bauman: Yeah, and Good Measure, just for our audience, so they know, is a brick and mortar retail storefront in South Philly. Not too far away from the shop here where a lot of the members are selling their work on consignment through there.
Mel Sage: Yeah. It’s commission-based. I basically lend my work to the Good Measure and then when it sells I get a percentage based on that sale. Or I guess Ross gets the percentage, and I get the principle.
Ron Bauman: Awesome.
Mel Sage: And I’m in a store in Haddonfield, New Jersey as well, called Meraki Market. And that one, they sell wholesale, so that’s great. So, I get to just sell them my work, and then if they sell it, that’s great. But that’s the end of the transaction. And I’m about to meet up with someone from the Common Room in North Philly. I’m going to be part of it. That’s another makers’ retail space. Much like the Good Measure.
Ron Bauman: I have to check them out.
Mel Sage: Yeah, and then I also sell on Cactus Collective, which is a vintage shop in South Philly.
Ron Bauman: Are you doing anything online, or is it mostly through these markets?
Mel Sage: Yeah, so I have a website.
Ron Bauman: Of course.
Mel Sage: My website…
Ron Bauman: Sage Woodworks.
Mel Sage: sagewoodworks.org.
Ron Bauman: .org. You got the.org going. Nice. You’re not a nonprofit though, right?
Mel Sage: No.
Ron Bauman: No? You just like the.org?
Mel Sage: I couldn’t get the .com.
Ron Bauman: Oh, good move. Good move.
Mel Sage: I had to do it. Yeah, so I have my website. And I tried doing Etsy, but I wasn’t really getting a lot of traction on Etsy, so the website’s been going pretty well. I would like to make more sales online. It’s always exciting to get a sale online that is from someone I don’t know. So, that’s happened a couple of times where I’m like, “Yes, the word is getting out.”
Ron Bauman: That’s great. Do you enjoy being an entrepreneur?
Mel Sage: Yes. I love being an entrepreneur. I like making my own schedule, and being my own boss.
Ron Bauman: Nice.
Mel Sage: Yeah.
Ron Bauman: Awesome. What are some of the challenges that you face?
Mel Sage: I think for me, the challenges that I face are more mental than anything else. It was hard leaving my old job, and walking away from a salary-based position to just really being responsible for my own income, and everything that’s attached to that. Just convincing myself that I made the right move and that things are going to continue to progress. It’s up and down. Some days, I have great opportunities coming at me and I’m really excited, and then there will be days when I feel like there’s not much happening, so I need to keep myself motivated and stay positive about everything.
Ron Bauman: How do you do that?
Mel Sage: I just try to take it day by day, and I try to do yoga and that sort of thing to keep my mind steady.
We wrapped our conversation by discussing women in the workshop, advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, and what the future holds in store for Sage Woodworks.
Mel Sage: At NextFab, I really don’t notice the fact that I’m working in a male-dominated space as much. There may have been one or two times where my ear perks up, but for the most part, this is a space where everyone is equal. I really don’t notice much-
Ron Bauman: There’s no mansplaining going on?
Mel Sage: No, not so much.
Ron Bauman: Okay, good.
Mel Sage: No. Actually, I’ve had a lot of men ask me how to do things, which is really great. And I’ve had men ask me to help them lift things and stuff, which-
Ron Bauman: That’s got to be empowering.
Mel Sage: Yeah, you don’t like get that everywhere. So, it really is a space that’s, I’m not just saying this, it is a space that’s really, it’s equal. Men and women I would say are pretty equal. And I would say it’s probably a third of the population, at least in the wood shop is women. So, I do see women in the shop.
Ron Bauman: All right, so you’re not outnumbered too bad.
Mel Sage: It’s not too bad, no.
Ron Bauman: That’s good. Awesome. So, what advice would you give to a young budding entrepreneur? Someone looking to make that leap and following your footsteps, and do what you did.
Mel Sage: I feel like there are two schools of thought in this. I’ve heard a lot of people say, “Don’t leave your old job and become an entrepreneur until you’re like ready to do it. Everything’s set up, and you know that financially you can do it. Everything’s where you need it to be.” I disagree with that thought.
Ron Bauman: I do too, by the way.
Mel Sage: Yeah, I think you just need to go for it.
Ron Bauman: Dive in head first.
Mel Sage: You just got to get out of what’s making you unhappy, and pursue something that’s making you happy. And if it doesn’t work out, which I don’t think that’s a failure either. I would say if things aren’t working out, that just means you need to sort of change your footing a little bit and just change the way that you’re approaching it. So, yeah.
Ron Bauman: Awesome. So what’s the future hold for Sage Woodworks?
Mel Sage: For Sage Woodworks, the future right now is just about getting into more shows, getting the word out there. I’m just trying to gain more traction in terms of having a bigger following, so that people know my work, and I get to make more sales based off of that. Just getting it to be a little more steady. And eventually, I would like to have my own studio as much as I love NextFab, and it’s been an incubator for me, and I’ll probably be here for a few more years.
Ron Bauman: Right.
Mel Sage: Eventually, I would like to have my own creative space, and just be able to send packages from my shop, not my apartment address.
Ron Bauman: That’s great. Well, as much as we like to see people grow and members here grow and move on and get bigger and better, we always want you to stay here. And I think people, they don’t ever really fully leave NextFab. I think once you’re here, you’re always a member, even if you have graduated through.
Mel Sage: Right. It is that sort of community, and it’s cool when you walk through the lobby, you see all these photos of people that have made things here in the past, and even some examples of their work. And it just from working here, I know that those people, they don’t still work here. So, it’s cool that NextFab gives tribute to people that have made things here. They’re not mad that they left. They’re happy that they made something.
Ron Bauman: And that’s why I feel bad. This shouldn’t be necessarily the end of the rainbow for anybody, but this is really, the place where it gets you to where you want to be as an entrepreneur, even as an enthusiast, and as somebody who, we talked about earlier, how do we go from passion, to project, to product? And I think that’s really great what you’re doing, and we’re really happy for you, and excited for you.
Mel Sage: Thank you. Yeah, I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing now without NextFab.
Ron Bauman: That’s awesome. Well, we wish you the best of luck. We look forward to seeing you around the shop.
Mel Sage: Thanks.

Fun Facts About the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
1. IT WAS INITIALLY CHRISTMAS-THEMED.
The "Macy's Christmas Parade" appeared in 1924 as an approach to commend the development of Macy's lead Manhattan store, which would now cover a whole city square and turned into oneself declared "World's Largest Store." According to The New York Times, "most of members were workers of the stores. There were, be that as it may, numerous expert performers who kept the onlookers diverted as they cruised by. Delightful buoys demonstrated the Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe, Little Miss Muffet, and Red Riding Hood. There were additionally bears, elephants, jackasses and groups, causing the parade to take after a bazaar march." (The creatures originated from the Central Park Zoo.)
2. THERE WERE OBJECTIONS EARLY ON.
Two years after the principal march, the Allied Patriotic Societies challenged, revealing to Macy's that it shouldn't hold the occasion on Thanksgiving since "it would meddle with Thanksgiving Day revere," as indicated by The New York Times, and in light of the fact that it wasn't fitting for a business organization to hold a procession on the occasion. In the event that the organization didn't recognize its dissent, the affiliation announced that it would go to the police chief and request that he disavow the motorcade license.
Percy Straus, who worked for Macy's, went to the affiliation's gathering. He called attention to that there was no obtrusive publicizing in the motorcade, and that the word Macy was utilized just once. "He additionally said that Thanksgiving morning was the main time when kids would be allowed to watch and traffic would be light enough to allow the motorcade's passing," the Times composed. "It would be finished, he thought, in plentiful time to allow churchgoing." Straus' legitimizations didn't have any kind of effect; the affiliation casted a ballot to dissent the motorcade, however its endeavors to get the occasion dropped were ineffective—the procession went on not surprisingly.
3. THE CHARACTER BALLOONS WERE INSPIRED BY A FLOAT.
The Balloonatics glide—which, as the name would recommend, was decorated with inflatables—motivated the making of the character inflatables. Nowadays, the general population who plan the inflatables are classified "Balloonatics."
4. THE CHARACTER BALLOONS DEBUTED IN 1927.
Three years after the principal yearly motorcade, inflatables made their introduction. As per The New York Times, the motorcade notwithstanding "a 'human behemoth' 21 feet tall … [that] needed to creep under the raised structure at 66th and Broadway," "a 'dinosaur' 60 feet since quite a while ago gone to by a guardian of ancient cave dwellers," and "a 25-foot dachshund [that] influenced along in the organization of tremendous turkeys and chickens and ducks of chivalrous size." Also in the procession that year, yet not referenced in the Times, was the primary character expand, Felix the Cat.
5. FOR A FEW YEARS, THERE WERE "Inflatable RACES."
The principal year, Macy's had no designs for flattening its inflatables, so they were discharged into the air, where they immediately popped. Yet, that all changed in the 1928 procession.
That year, Macy's discharged five gigantic figures—an elephant, a 60-foot tiger, a plumed winged animal, a "prompt riser" trailing worms, and a 25-foot-high apparition—into the sky. While most of the inflatables in the procession utilized standard air to remain above water, these figures were worked around helium inflatable bodies, which were intended to gradually release the gas. As The New York Times clarified, "The figures are required to ascend to 2000 to 3000 feet and are coordinated by a moderate hole to remain up high for seven days to 10 days. By then it is normal they will have landed in different pieces of the nation." Whoever restored the inflatables would get a $100 remunerate.
The primary inflatable to land was the Tiger, which the Times announced arrived on the top of a Long Island home: "A back-and-forth followed for its ownership … neighbors and drivers surged up from all bearings. The rubber treated silk skin burst into many sections."
By December 1, four of the inflatables had landed (one in the East River, where it broke in two and was sought after by towing boats). The apparition, be that as it may, was "accounted for as having been located moving out to ocean over the Rockaways with a herd of gulls in interest," as indicated by the Times. The procession held its last inflatable race in 1932 after two episodes including planes. In 1931, pilot Colonel Clarence Duncan Chamberlin caught an inflatable in mid-air and towed it back to his home and got $25 as a reward. In 1932, as indicated by certain sources, a 22-year-elderly person taking flying exercises deliberately flew the plane she was guiding into one of the discharged inflatables. It was just the fast activity of her teacher that shielded the plane from slamming.
6. MICKEY MOUSE MADE HIS DEBUT IN 1934.
Macy's creators teamed up with Walt Disney to make the 40-foot-high, 23-foot-wide inflatable, which was "held rational by twenty-five imposing chaperons," as indicated by The New York Times. The motorcade that year additionally highlighted the primary inflatable dependent on a genuine individual—humorist and vaudeville star Eddie Cantor.
7. THE PARADE WAS HALTED DURING WORLD WAR II.
There were elastic and helium deficiencies, so Macy's dropped the motorcade from 1942 to 1944. The organization emptied its elastic inflatables—which gauged 650 pounds all out—and gave them to the legislature. (Nowadays, the inflatables are made of polyurethane texture.) The motorcade returned in 1945, and in 1946 got another course, which began at 77th Street and Central Park West and finished at 34th Street—a large portion of the length of the past course.
8. A HELIUM SHORTAGE IN 1958 ALMOST GROUNDED THE PARADE'S BALLOONS.
At first, it resembled a helium lack would keep Macy's motorcade inflatables from flying in 1958. Be that as it may, the organization worked together with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and the gear pros Traynor and Hansen Corporation to concoct an innovative arrangement: According to The New York Times, the inflatables were loaded up with air and dangled from "huge, versatile development derricks." The paper additionally portrayed a trial of the technique:
"A mechanized derrick with a 70-foot blast had a uniquely fabricated wood-and-steel holder connected as far as possible of the wire lifting link. The Toy Soldier, gauging in excess of 200 pounds emptied, was extended full-length on a canvas cover. Limp and wiped out looking, it was not the hearty figure kids and grown-ups are accustomed to seeing. Lines from the body of the inflatable were appended to the holder while two vacuum cleaners, working backward, blew in air. An hour of blowing rounded the make sense of pleasantly and the blast raised it into the air."
The inflatables have just been grounded once since 1927, when winds during the 1971 procession were unreasonably solid for them to fly.
9. THE FLOATS FOLD DOWN SMALL.
Since 1968, the buoys have been planned by craftsmen at Macy's Parade Studio in New Jersey. The buoys can be up to 40 feet tall and 28 feet wide—however they overlap down into a 12-foot-by-8-foot box to make the adventure through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Incidentally: The procession highlights drift based inflatables called falloons—a blend of "buoy" and "inflatable"— which were presented at some point around 1990. There are likewise expand vehicles called balloonicles (a portmanteau of "inflatable" and "vehicle"), which made their presentation in 2004. Trycaloons—expands on tricycles—hit the procession in 2011.
10. The majority OF THE BALLOONS ARE DESIGNED IN-HOUSE BY MACY'S ARTISTS—AND THEY'RE NOT CHEAP.
Macy's inflatable planners—named "balloonatics"— start as long as a year prior to the procession with pencil portrayals of each character, breaking down style as well as streamlined features and designing. The representations are trailed by downsized dirt models that are utilized to make throws of the inflatables. Two little reproductions are made: One that is set apart with specialized subtleties, and one that is painted in the inflatable's hues. The models are submerged in water to make sense of how much helium they'll have to skim. At long last, the schematics are examined by PC, and the texture pieces are sliced and heat-fixed to make the different air assemblies of the inflatable. When the inflatable is made, it's painted while swelled (something else, the paint will break), at that point experiences hole testing and indoor and open air flight tests. No big surprise it costs at any rate $190,000 for a first-time expand (after a first appearance, it costs $90,000 per year after that). The inflatables are finished by Halloween and put away along a divider in the structure studio's inflatable distribution center.
11. THE BALLOONS ARE DIRECTED BY "Inflatable PILOTS."
They're the general population strolling in reverse before the inflatable, coordinating a group of volunteers holding aide ropes (called "bones") and two Toro utility vehicles. Macy's offers preparing three times each year for pilots. "We offer the pilots and chiefs the opportunity to circumvent the field a few times with the inflatable two or multiple times and practice the guidance and direction," Kelly Kramer, a long-term Macy's representative and inflatable pilot, disclosed to Vanity Fair in 2014. "We likewise have study hall preparing." It's additionally significant for inflatable pilots to prepare physically; if not, "The following morning you wake up and you nearly can't get up in light of the fact that your calves seize up," Kramer said. "I strolled in reverse in my neighborhood around evening time."
12. Individuals WHO WANT TO VOLUNTEER TO WALK WITH THE BALLOONS HAVE TO MEET CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS.
It takes an hour and a half to swell the huge inflatables, which, by and large, contain 12,000 cubic feet of helium, which is equipped for lifting almost 750 pounds (or filling 2500 baths). Each inflatable requires up to 90 handlers, who need to weigh in any event 120 pounds and be healthy.
The inflatables are expanded the day preceding the procession outside the American Museum of Natural History, at that point finished off the day of. Since helium grows in the sun, the inflatables are commonly left somewhat underinflated.
