#I'd die for Mads Mikkelsen

More people need to watch Mads Mikkelsen's Danish films.
I'm an avid film enthusiast and also very picky about the films I watch. Then hannibal happened and the rest is history...( now you'd catch me watching Ads on YouTube cause it has Mads's shadow in it lol. Karma)
Once I fell in love with Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy I decided to watch most of their existing individual projects and I started of with Mads and HOLY SHIT!?!
Now I've always known that Mads Mikkelsen is a tremendously good actor but what I didn't expect is to fall in love with Danish films :").
I've absolutely loved:
- Another Round. (I'VE NEVER SEEN A MORE BEAUTIFUL ENDING SEQUENCE OF A MOVIE. I Can't-)
-The promised land. (IT'S REALLY GOOD)
- Adam's Apple. (Unexpectedly beautiful. Personal fav)
-Flickering Lights. (Heartwarming watch)
-Men and Chicken. (ELIAS IS A BABY)
-Riders of Justice (Heartwarming watch + DADDY MADS DADDY MADS)
So far and I'm planning on watching ALL of his films eventually! He's such a versatile actor 👏! HIS DANISH FILMS DESERVE MORE RECOGNITION Y'ALL!

Top 10 characters from Hannibal I'd want to play but it's all for whore reasons that get more and more deranged as the list goes on:
1. Hannibal Lecter - I will get held half-naked in Laurence Fishburne's strong arms and get to kiss Gillian Anderson and Caroline Dhavernas and get straddled by Hugh Dancy and Gina Torres will slap me
2. Margot Verger - I gets to kiss and have intimate scenes with Hugh Dancy and Caroline Dhavernas
3. Will Graham - Mads Mikkelsen is gonna lovingly caress my face and my hands and hold me up by my hair and call me a cunning boy
4. Antony Dimmond - I wanna be the awkward third between two people so bad and you're telling me he got to insinuate that with Gillian Anderson and Mads Mikkelsen? I'd die for that cause.
5. Francis Dolarhyde - I get to kiss and have intimate scenes with Rutina Wesley and I can throw Hugh Dancy across a room and Mads Mikkelsen will rip my throat out with his teeth
6. Freddie Lounds - I just think I wouldn't resist if Hugh Dancy stalked towards me with murder eyes and a knife and tried to pull my hair and implied he was going to eat me especially if I got to see his dick later
7. Frederick Chilton - Listen the way it happened in the show was wild but I would not be opposed to Suzy Izzard rearranging my insides
8. Neal Frank - I just don't think dying with Gillan Anderson's beautiful hand shoved down my throat is the worst way to die
9. Winston - Maybe I also want Hugh Dancy to give me a bath and affectionately dry me off and pet me a lot and train me
10. Miriam Lass - Being trapped in Hannibal's hole 👀

Dracula vs. Hannibal: love, light and shadow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd like to talk a little about Dracula versus Hannibal controversy. In Dracula, Moffat and Gatiss address Hannibal in many scenes, answering and arguing with this series to show their own story.
The first thing that catches your eye is the actual theme of cannibalism. Moffat and Gatiss relegate it to the background so that it is not so much "hidden" in the plot as it takes on a different meaning. Dracula certainly eats people, like Hannibal, in an effort to "own" them, but there is a difference.
Firstly, unlike Hannibal, for Dracula, this is a need, a basic need for food, without which he will simply die. Another question is that over hundreds of years, Dracula was unable or unwilling to find a way to feed on people without killing them. But this is a topic for another conversation. And secondly, Dracula’s cannibalism includes not only and not so much taste, but quality, meaning, and relationships. Dracula collects stories and the people who embody them. No matter how strange it may sound, for him, it is a dialogue. Which becomes his salvation, after all. But more on that later.
The second is how the theme of love is resolved in one and the other series. For Hannibal, love is something strange, unfamiliar, another way to devour someone and enjoy their likeness to himself. For a long time, I could not understand what makes the story of Hannibal and the character so disgusting. And finally, I realized that it’s not just that Hannibal kills and does it in as vile a way as possible. The fact is that, by killing, Hannibal, as it were, turns the victims into himself, infecting them with internal decline and decay.
Mads Mikkelsen is a wonderful actor, and for two seasons, I couldn't understand why he looked like a walking mannequin. Until it dawned on me: yes, because that’s exactly what he plays. In contrast to Anthony Hopkins, who plays a burning, sharp rage, a wild, almost primal passion, Mads Mikkelsen portrays an empty, cold, eternally bored psychopath. Classic, like a textbook. It’s scary with him not because he can kill you, but because he can and wants to corrupt – since he is not able to taste the joys of life and humanity.
In this sense, Dracula is an incredibly beautiful answer in its vitality. I remember that the first thing that struck me about Dracula was his inner strength and passion, his thirst for life. In his old body, leaning on a cane, he looked like a young man who was imprisoned in this uncomfortable shell. He moved in it, too, as if jumping up and down with impatience. He is the same in his relationships with others. Unlike Hannibal, who wants to turn everyone and everything around into himself, Dracula wants to continue himself, to extend himself forward. He wants a future and therefore leaves the castle because he realizes that the future presupposes the presence of others in his life.
Dracula's relationship with Jonathan Harker could be (and is sometimes visually reminiscent of) Hannibal's relationship with Will Graham. Quotes are scattered here and there: chandeliers made of deer antlers on the ceiling, the fireplace in the castle (which is absolutely the same color as the one in Hannibal's place), even the figurative solution for the fantasies of Jonathan in a dream and Will working at the crime scene is the same.
But the result is different. Will in the story with Hannibal is the victim, the follower, even if for a while he became the hunter and lured Hannibal into a trap. In the end, he follows the path outlined by Hannibal, because from the very beginning, he is captured, poisoned, and all he can do is destroy evil along with him. Jonathan – and this is shown both visually and at the text level – is the master of the situation from beginning to end. He is the one whose favor Dracula seeks, whom he begs for this favor, and who ultimately becomes for him the path to the light.
The disgusting scene in Agatha's laboratory is not only about the fact that Dracula deceived Agatha and Mina by pretending to be Jonathan. This is a materialized metaphor that literally shows that Dracula, as we know him in the second and third episodes, actually came out of Jonathan, and was able to become so because he was in Johnathan's skin.
Dracula doesn't turn people into himself. He doesn't have that kind of power. In the first episode, we see that he consistently and for quite a long time tried to convert someone, creating an equal to himself, but he only succeeded with Jonathan. By the way, why?
I think because Jonathan was the first person Dracula approached as an equal in many years. Whom he saw, understood, and recognized. Remember the scene on the roof? Remember the moment when Dracula says to Jonathan, who is rising from the floor, clinging to him: ‘Tell me you won't follow me, and I'll let you go’? Remember the brief moment when Dracula looks at him with his head thrown back? There is neither triumph nor malice in this look. There is pain and melancholy in it. It's the look of someone who knows what's going to happen because it's happened many times before, – and yet desperately wants to be wrong. And when Jonathan rejects his offer, when he vows to pursue him as long as he lives, catharsis ensues. From there, even if he doesn't realize it, Dracula walks with the understanding that it takes two to share who you are, to create a relationship.
Moffat and Gatiss liberally scatter references to Hannibal throughout all three episodes of Dracula. Dracula pursuing Jonathan, slowly falling drops of blood, the presentation of Dracula as a gourmet, even the appearance of the main character from a wolf – all this either resembles or directly points to that. But starting seemingly the same way, this story leads in a completely different direction. The dark compass turns and it turns out that where Hannibal tries to lead Will into the darkness, Agatha is leading Dracula to the light. The climax is the final scene, in which in both series the characters die, and before that one of them says, “It`s beautiful”. But if Will experiences a transformation and speaks this way about his ‘dark side’ – which is symbolized by blood in the light of the moon – Dracula pronounces these words in relation to the sun – finding his light side.
And there's also a deleted scene at the end of Hannibal. I think it could have been a quote from Bram Stoker's Dracula – two people in a chapel, illuminated by the sun. In Dracula, this is the same quote, but unlike Hannibal, where the heroes sit in a church, that is, to contact the divine they resort to an intermediary, in Dracula they are inside the sun, in direct experience, without allegory, images, and symbols. Love does not need words and expressions. It is what it is.
By the way, the same idea is heard in the ending of Sherlock.
I think it's no coincidence.

King Arthur 20th anniversary celebration, 1-7 July 2024
King Arthur turns 20 on 7 July 2024! This is an interest check for a potential celebration event to be held here on Tumblr and on AO3 in the week running up to the anniversary - please let me know if you're interested! I'm thinking of a week of prompts, much like other themed fests, with a few prompts per day (home, love, loyalty, etc) and some alternates.
If enough people are interested I'll make an event blog, and if anyone fancies helping me mod the event, that would be great. Also, if anyone out there with graphic skills would like to make some banners, that would also be awesome, since (as you can probably tell) I have the graphic skills of a brick.
There is already an AO3 collection for the anniversary, run by the lovely sasha_b, so if anyone wants to post anything there outside the first week in July please feel free!
And if you're not familiar with the movie - if you like angsty OT3s, ride-and/or-die brothers in arms, badass women warriors, a lot of UST and a good bit of snark, this may be the movie for you! It's not exactly faithful to the legends, it suffers from Smurfette syndrome and doesn't get anywhere near even a Bechdel test pass, and it does have its wobbly story issues and a good few daft plotholes, but it's enormous amounts of fun and has so much scope for fannish interpretations, transformations and extensions. The cast includes Clive Owen, Keira Knightley, Ioan Gruffudd, Joel Edgerton, Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Winstone, Ray Stevenson, Stellan Skarsgård, Til Schweiger and Ken Stott, many of whom went on to much bigger things...
So...come and join the little fandom that could as we celebrate TWENTY YEARS of our beloveds!
Please reblog and signal boost - and if you were in the fandom when the movie was released please come and say hi! I was going by another name at the time (trinityc) and I'd love to get back in touch!

I just watch Polar on Netflix with Mads Mikkelsen and all I have to say is WOW!
1. Daddy looks good!
2. He's such a helpful king 🤴 🥺🥺
3. This poor man was blowing up his own balloon for his birthday 😭😭😭. I'd have done that for you, sweetheart 😢 😘
4. Why did his doctor in the beginning say "Do you know why I leave the rectal exam for last? So my patients have something fun to look forward too." OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE HE SAID THAT!
5. Also, with the doctor. I can't believe he had some kind of cake in the fridge with other fluids that should not mix together 🤮🤮 and then he gave some to Duncan. AND DUNCAN ATE IT!
6. Duncan looks good with blood on him 🥵🥵
7. Everyone in that movie deserved to die, beside Johnny Knoxville. Poor dude just wanted to get laid during his retirement
8. How did this man not freeze to death when he ran outside naked to kill Facundo? But he did look great standing over him naked
9. Why didn't anyone believe Vivian when she stated "don't mess with the black kaiser. Just give him his money and leave him alone."
10. I wish I was Sindy for a hot second, because she got to have sex with Duncan. That lucky bitch

I've been rewatching the Indiana Jones films and decided to rank them from least favourite to my absolute favourite, I'd like to note that despite what negative things I may have to say I don't think there is a bad movie in this franchise which is kind of a miracle. I love all of them to some extent, this series means the world to me, and I feel the entertainment industry is lucky to have it.
5. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Tumblr media
I really love the first two acts of this movie; the 50s setting is fun, Harrison Ford is great as ever, Cate Blanchett plays a great villain, the action is fun and energetic, and despite how much of a shitty person Shia LaBeouf is his performance as Mutt Williams is honestly really great. Then they get to the jungle in the second half and it all starts to fall apart. The car chase is pretty terrible, the giant ants are creepy but kind of just meh and the conclusion feels very underwhelming. I will say that I don't agree with the criticism that there being aliens is a bridge too far, it's about as plausible as any of the other supernatural stuff so it doesn't feel out of place to me. Overall a fun movie just a bit messy in its third act. 6/10
4. Dial of Destiny
Tumblr media
I was so anxious to watch this one, all I'd heard from people was that it was terrible and another wasted legacy sequel, so imagine my surprise when I sat down to watch it and found it's actually brilliant. It feels like a proper finale to the series and does a lot of interesting things with Indy and makes him more compelling in this film than he's been since Last Crusade. Mads Mikkelsen plays my favourite Indy villain in Jürgen Voller, who is intimidating yet ever so slightly campy. I love him, and his plan is so bonkers and off the wall it's amazing. Helena is a brilliant supporting character, and I love how she's kind of like a young Indy with her own version of Shortround. The overall message of the film plus how it deals with Indy's age and the ending made me cry, I felt it was truly something special. That being said, I didn't like the CGI young Harrison Ford at the start of the movie, as well as how a lot of the once practical stunts are now completely CGI, but that aside I love this film. 8/10
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
Tumblr media
The classic that started it all, I'm not gonna say much about this film mainly because I feel like out of all the films I have least to say about this one. It's really great with phenomenonal action, music, acting, and pacing. An adventure for the ages, everything that could possibly be said about this movie has been said. It's a masterpiece. So why is it not at the top? Mainly cause I like the next two more, nothing against this film but I feel later entries improve on what's already there. Still the most quintessential adventure film of all time. 9/10
2. Temple of Doom
Tumblr media
My hot take is that Temple of Doom is better than Raiders and I will die on this hill. This movie is a thrill ride from start to finish with some of my favourite characters in the whole franchise; I love Shortround and think he's a great sidekick to Indy, I love Willie she's such a great comedic foil and her line delivery never fails to crack me up, Mola Ram is basically the devil himself with how genuinely evil he is compared to the other bad guys he seems to be relishing in his evil. The camp fun of this movie mixed in with genuine horror imagery and elements make it utterly unforgettable to me, I know for some people it's too mean spirited but I kind of love that about it. Harrison Ford is so great here too, he is an absolute delight in this movie in every scene. The action is unmatched in the rest of the series here with the mine cart chase and bridge collapse being series highlights for me. Overall, it's just a brilliant bit of fun that while not being very deep has such great entertainment factor that I adore it. 9/10
1. The Last Crusade
Tumblr media
I must have watched this on VHS so many times as a kid, I was constantly rewatching Last Crusade so I have a nostalgic bias for this movie, but so what? This movie means so much to me personally, its themes of obsession and fatherhood are beautifully executed. Getting Sean Connery, James Bond himself, to play Indy's father was a genius move by Spielberg the presence of Henry Jones sr elevates this film to the stratosphere for me. The story and characters are absolutely perfect, the action is as great as ever, the character of Indiana Jones himself is at his peak in this movie with how we learn so much about his past with that incredible opening sequence with young Indy. My only slight criticism is that the main villain, Walter Donovan is the weakest of the series, but even that's made up for by Elsa, who plays the role as both villain and love interest brilliantly. I love this movie to death. 10/10
"Indiana, let it go."

what are your favorite bond movies overall?
--Casino Royale. You know this, but I just really enjoy the Craig era's sort of focus on like... an actually emotional Bond dressed up as the GRITTY NO EMOTIONS Bond? And obviously this laid the foundation. This one reads as a love story and it sickennnns me in the best way. Also! Introduction of Jeffrey Wright as Felix! Mads Mikkelsen as a villain! It has it all!
--Skyfall. Another love story disguised as a Bond movie lol but this time it's M AS A BOND GIRL!!! I DIE!!!!!!! Judi Dench is THEE M for me. Eve is introduced and she is just fabulous, Naomie and Craig's chemistry is fabulous. This one probably has the best Craig era villain as well. We love an Oedipal complex.
--No Time To Die. Literally just saw it and cried. Has so many things I love. Brings his entire emotional arc full circle, has a soapy secret baby, Rami Malek brings the creep factor, NOMI!!!!!! PALOMA!!!! A great sendoff.
(And as of now that's prooooobably how I'd rank the three Craig movies I love? Like, they're all pretty close for me and I think Skyfall is probably the best quality-wise, but in terms of an overall cinematic experience Casino Royale still has it beat and No Time To Die is very, very good as well.)
--On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Not for the Bond, really. Not for the plot, really. For Diana Rigg as Tracy Bond. I love Tracy.
--The Spy Who Loved Me. It's been a long time since I last saw this one, but it is BANANAS, as the Roger Moore Bonds generally are. I feel like Roger Moore's Bond is to my mom as Craig's Bond is to me. I was 11-12 when Casino Royale came out, so Craig was the Bond I imprinted on, and Roger Moore was the Bond my mom imprinted on. The Spy Who Loved Me is the Bond I think of with Roger Moore. This one has a FABULOUS Bond girl in Anya Amasova (she's a KGB agent code named AGENT TRIPLE X), and tons of Cold War shit, and like, underwater hideouts, and the villain wants to start World War III, and I think he has a henchman with metal teeth literally called Jaws. It's.... insane.
The thing with Bond movies is that like... Most of them are deeply problematic and a lot of them are.... not great. But I will watch MOST of them. I have a harder time watching the Sean Connery Bonds because I find them a lot duller. There's no heart to them. He's just a cold bastard. Also, I hate Sean Connery. I would rather rewatch Die Another Day, which has a North Korea plot that I cannot imagine has aged well, than watch a Sean Connery Bond. At least Die Another Day has Jinx.

Mads Mikkelsen
I'm writing this as I've paused the screen and staring at Allan. (unit one)
I'm barely a series person. But Hannibal, Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy got me watching stuff I never imagined I'd ever watch.
HOWEVER,
MADS FUCKING MIKKELSEN.
Now I've known him for a long time. Who doesn't? He's all over the Internet and everybody loves him. Now back then I too was like "Yeah He's a very handsome man" and was fond of his personality. All cool. All chill.
Then Nbc Hannibal happened to me.
And my life literally divided into two segments once I finished TWOTL. Which is:
Before hannibal and after hannibal
Now let's talk about Mads Mikkelsen.
How is it possible for a man to be this uniquely beautiful? From his bone structure to his eyes. From his teeth to his hair. I never really bothered about men's chest hair and now all wanna do is press my fucking face against his and live there. The urge to nibble on his cheekbone is literally getting out of my hands. I'm on my KNEES for this man.
I'm done watching most of his films. And GODDAMN THOSE. SEX. SCENES. got me all bothered (if ykyk). I never thristed this shamelessly for ANY celebrity ever in my life. But now all I can do is to have unholy thoughts about him 24/7.
I'll go down sexualizing this old man. I'll go down on daddy-
(It's 3 am. Don't mind me)

I want to get married, but I also want to die. In my mind's eye, I sit outside a restaurant under a giant cloth umbrella wearing a raspberry beret and a black blouse. I see couples walking by with a mix of disgust and envy. I sip my wine slowly and let out a sigh. I'm relishing this moment, yet I desperately want to go home. When I'm home, I greet Alice and either a woman who looks like Mindy Kaling or a man who looks like Mads Mikkelsen. I imagine them smiling and asking me about my day. I'd reply, "It's been a long day, I think I'll go to bed early". I wonder whether cutting my wrists would hurt or how long it would take me to stop breathing after overdosing on painkillers. I take off my clothes and stand in front of a mirror, gazing at my breasts and legs. I feel everything and nothing.
