10 years ago on November 21, 2012, Rise of the Guardians premiered on the big screen! 10 years, and so many of us are still here enjoying this wonderful fandom. Today is a very special day because today is the eleventh anniversary of Rise of the Guardians!

ROTG is very dear to me because it introduced me to the Guardians of Childhood book series by the wonderful William Joyce and opened the window that lit up the very dark room that was my life at the time and made me want to be a writer.

So, I decided to celebrate with a special moodboard of my OTP, Katherine Shalazar, and Nightlight (Kathlight/Bedtime Stories).

So I have a question for ya...why do you think ombric left Atlanta's(?)?

Ohohohoh funny you say that. Did I construct an entire possible backstory for him?

Yes

Yes i did.

Its a tragic tale. Young Ombric was studious and Atlantis was full of everything an aspiring wizard could ever want. The biggest thing that alluded him was temporal magic. Ombric was stopped from tampering with the past before, so one day he decided to try something smaller. He tried to see into the future. Atlantis was a marvelous city then, so the idea of seeing it developed even further enticed him. Just like Icarus and the sun, he was brash and unprepared. He saw Atlantis' ruin and crumble into the sea. Ombric was horrified and tried to warn everyone he could of the oncoming disaster. Instead of establishing an evacuation an, they simply focused on reinforcing safety precautions. Ombric was cast aside and life returned to normal for them. He continued to try and plead those he knew to flee with him but none walked with him.

Over time it only got worse, the rulers were getting greedier the more human their bloodlines became, more wars were raged and mindless indulgence ran rampant. Ombric could hardly watch.

He knew what was going to happen. Everyone he ever knew would die and none heeded his warnings. Ombric wished to know where to go from there, if he should stay and die with his people, or if he should leave. Just then, a glorious shooting star fell from the sky, pointing him to the land outside Atlantis. Ombric took it as a sign and left Atlantis with a heavy heart. Shortly after, it vanished into the sea.

Ombric kept this close to his heart for countless years, until he finally confided in a fellow mage that he hung out with in the Library Of Alexandria. It was the first time he felt like ancient weights slipped off his shoulders...just for a moment.

To this day, not even all the Guardians know. Ombric still carries some Orichalcum that he salvaged from the city. It serves him as a reminder of what he survived. Katherine, his adopted daughter, watches over the other pieces for him.

"You used to... he used to like them." Katherine said, casting a sidelong glance and blinking away any tears that began to well up in her eyes. realizing her unintentional mistake in her choice of pronouns.

Jack hadn’t experienced the sensation of a cold day in centuries, but in that moment, he was chilled to the bone. The Guardian of Fun planted his staff before him and clung to it like an anchor, splinters of frost creeping out from where his palms pressed to the wood.

He couldn’t meet Katherine’s eyes, couldn’t even look her way at all, in fact. Though his heart didn’t beat, it ached. If only that hurt were extractable. He could take to the skies and seek out the Oak of Sorrows to rid him of his pain, but then he would be leaving his—Nightlight’s past love to shoulder that burden alone.

The winter sprite had spent too long running - from responsibility, and now from the one person he probably needed most right now. Reaching out a tentative hand, Jack slipped it into the offered pouch and plucked out a single piece of Konpeito. He loved the Japanese candy as well (how could he not? It was was pure sugar). The gesture was simple, but he hoped to communicate an unspoken understanding that he wanted to mend the bond part of him had once shared with this woman.

The moment the pointy star-shaped food touched Jack’s tongue, a spark of joy flickered within him. He was beginning to recognize the sensation of Nightlight reacting to stimuli from the world around them. With a small smile, Jack finally dared to meet Katherine’s misty eyes.

“He’s happy,” the Guardian rasped, hoping to offer any amount of solace.

-Nightlight and Katherine's first meeting in the clouds in Nicholas St. North and the battle against the Nightmare king.

A bit old but I thought I'd share anyway! Made this back in June when I was still testing out Katherine and Nightlight's designs. Anyway my heart was stolen by them when the above mentioned scene happened- they now control my life.

Might redraw this because I much prefer the way I draw them now

Jack loves to sew, he favors sewing with a machine rather than hand sewing

Bunny mostly eats meats, but will have other things 

North knows how to knit and crochet and will make anyone a cozy sweater

Tooth loves dancing, but in particular Indian classical dance and sister of flight dances 

Sandy knows every sign language. If it can be communicated without verbal words, he will use it. 

North gifted Jack his own globe of belief, a small necklace that also doubles as a fidget. Since it’s small, North imbued it with a feature that allows Jack to zoom in on certain areas

Pitch used to accessorize with gold, but no longer does because of the association of gold with Sandy

Pitch sometimes sees unfamiliar faces in his nightmares. A beautiful woman (usually with shards of glass framing her face) and a young child that shares Pitch’s facial structure. They pop up so frequently that Pitch can’t tell if they were humans that he forgot. 

While he was human, North loved to make his friends good hearty soups (yes he stole the money to get the ingredients, what about it?)

Jack loves street burritos, but especially ones from New York City. Because he can’t order it himself, he usually steals them from customers who are being mean 

Jack sends Bunny videos of the chocolate guy (Amaury Guichon) and Bunny nerds out every time he sees them. He starts praising the chocolate guy and talking about what the different techniques that he uses that how he makes things that taste good even if they are for a display piece and not to be eaten.

Kathrine gave Bunny one of Kailash’s eggs

Jack loves dogs

He had one for awhile, a husky that was able to withstand the cold temperatures Jack operated in. He named him ‘Frosty Jr.’ and took very good care of him. Unfortunately, it didn’t last forever.

Tooth is physically 18-19ish years old
