thank you @myxinidaes for pointing out that Kevin Molina-Ortiz posted an earlier storyboard 🙏🏽 for your viewing pleasure! please support TF Earthspark on official channels if possible!! 🤖
rise of the TMNT art study notes from the past three days! on expressions, the lineart style, and a bit on storyboarding + shape language. screencaps from lair games and kevin molina-ortiz's animatic of the semi-cut rise movie fight sequence (you know the one). i hope these are useful!
I'm not too sure on the order. I think some things will be more or less obscure depending on which social media platforms a person uses but hopefully it's accurate enough for most people.
The 4th and 6th images from the top are screenshots of animatics by Kevin Molina-Ortiz and Sheldon Vella. The last image is a screenshot of an animatic by Bryan K Turner (uploads their work to their youtube channel "storiesbybryankturner6815").
the atom eve highway fight was soo good in that invincible special
knew when i saw someone mention kevin molina-ortiz worked on it it'd be some of the best choreographed, dynamic and inventive super power fights i would ever see in animation
Last weekend, Alonso Ramirez Ramos from Disney Television Animation was escorted to the stage at the 46th Annual ANNIE Awards to a thunderous entrance of none other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song!
Kevin Molina-Ortiz, LMU Animation '16 exclaimed “A 'Moonlight' moment! A great way to kick off 2019!" This wasn't an exact recurrence of the 2017 Oscars blunder, but the announcers did make a preliminary error by failing to proclaim a tie for "Best Storyboarding in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production".
The prestigious ANNIE award, the most esteemed recognition from the animation industry, was recently presented to Ramirez Ramos of Disney and our own Lion Molina-Ortiz. Having worked at Nickelodeon as a Storyboard Artist for two years, Ramino-Ortiz received this honor in consideration for his work on “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” episode “Mystic Mayhem.” Furthermore, he has since been promoted to Director level with respect to that same series!
Professor Tom Klein of Animation couldn't be more proud of his student, Kevin. "Not only was he a star pupil at LMU but I had the privilege to work with him on both his thesis and sophomore film," said Klein. "I knew from day one that this kid has something special, and now animation studios are taking notice too." Indeed they have – evidenced by Kevin's ANNNIE Award in his early twenties! The sky is the limit for this young talent as there will certainly be much more about him soon.
As for me, I am just as inspired by Kevin and all of his wonderful achievements. My desire for storytelling combined with my passion to solve problems have driven me to pursue a technical career in animation and visual effects. Working as a software engineer on the production technology team of Walt Disney Animation Studios has opened up many opportunities that I would not have had if I didn't take the plunge into the animation world. It has truly been an amazing journey and one that I hope to continue for years to come!
Seeing Kevin's success is a reminder of what you can accomplish when you put your heart and soul into something. His accomplishments serve as a source of motivation and inspiration not just for me, but for aspiring engineers and animators everywhere. I am so proud to be part of a community that encourages innovation and celebrates success. Congratulations Kevin - you deserve it!
i really need rottmnt fans to learn what a storyboard is because kevin molina-ortiz's clip that he called "boards that didnt even make it to animatic stage" are full on rough animation (and it isnt even rough, its just not cleaned up) and it is killing me actually!
fully animated scenes being considered storyboards is not only absolutely and incomprehensibly unrealistic, but incredibly unhealthy, and if you land a job in the animation industry and are expected to give at least 2 steps above what a storyboard is when asked for one, You Will Die. this is like a really big contributing factor to why industry animators talk about being so very very overworked.
CONGRATS to Kevin Molina-Ortiz and the crew at Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for winning the Annie Award for Best Storyboarding in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production! 🎉We’re celebrating at the studio with lots and lots of delicious DONUTS! 💚
Can we talk about how much Leo is a ultra instinct big bro to Mikey in the Gumbus episode?
I mean, I know everyone at this point knows about Leo hugging Mikey hiding in his shell to protect him (and didn’t let go no matter what)...
But Leo also...
...had the ultimate dad reflex. As soon as he realized that Mikey retracted into his shell out of fear, even before Mikey really fell off, he reached out and grabbed him before he could tumble off.
...grabbed Mikey when he became too frozen in fear to move and continues to lead his little bro to safety while being chased.
....threw Mikey to cover first before jumping behind cover himself. He straight up grabs Mikey’s leg as soon as he found cover and yeets Mikey to safety first before diving after him.
...picked up Mikey and carried him to safety. When machine Gumbus attacked, Leo tackled Mikey out of the way and picked him up and away to safety. Might I also add that it looks like Leo’s holding Mikey so hard, Mikey looks like he’s choking from Leo’s tight grip on him.
These moments happened so fast, with so much content going on that sometimes I didn’t really notice until the fourth or so viewing and I had to watch it frame by frame. The amount of detail in such a short span of time is astounding as it is adorable, high props to Kevin Molina-Ortiz for another amazing choreographed action scene.
I haven’t really seen Leo do much of this sort of this more protective behavior with his other older brothers. Of course he’ll love, protect, and defend them all the same, but Mikey is his only younger brother, he’s gotta feel some sort of responsibility for that. And it shows. And it’s so bloody adorable.
On another note, I really think that one of the reasons that Leo brought Mikey along for the ghost hunt (other than to rub it in his face to prove him wrong) is to show to Mikey that there was nothing to be afraid of, so he wouldn’t have to be so afraid.
Leo may not be the oldest anymore, but he still has his older brother protective tendencies to his only littlest brother.
I need more big bro Leo moments. It’s so freakin’ precious.
