The four priests are burning deeper into the canvas. This piece started as a quick 4 color tone sketch one afternoon while looking after a gallery. After a few months I tend to go more and more minute in detail and try and focus on detail between the lines. . . . . #neoexpressionism #paintonwood #painting #acrylicpaint #acryliconwood #kirikiriroa #kirikiriroaartist #hamilton #hamiltonart #religiousart #spiritualart https://www.instagram.com/p/CoCGOQgrLVK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A bit about me: Kia ora and ciao! I'm Nyree and this is my husband Steve. I'm from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand), born in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) . My Father is an Irish New Zealander and My Mother, is Italian/Croatian, born in Rome, raised in Australia. Although raised speaking only English into the colonist "culture" , I have a deep respect for the culture and rights of the indigenous Maori and believe that they are the appropriate guardians of this land. I personally have a yearning to connect with my Italian heritage, as for some reason it's the part of me I identify with most. I'm currently learning the Italian language and plan to visit my mother's birth country, hopefully next year.
Ciao! Mi chiamo Nyree e questo è mio marito Steve. Sono neozelandese e vivo ad Auckland. Mia madre è nata a Roma ma è cresciuta in Australia. Impararo l'italiano da tre anni e vorrei viaggiare in Italia presto. 🤞

weekday blues
by amber sadgrove (she/her)
Weekday Blues (for M with thanks to T)
cascade my mind constantly
a starlight shower
embers break
my skin
orgasmic touch
as wild horses d a s h in sand storms
rehearse our conversations the language is new
they slide like puzzle pieces to
gag—on autumn plums
feel the juices drip from my mouth
and yours
you are Icarus
i ride your back to feel the burn of what could have been
a story from my third eye
too drunk to care
care too much
numb the pain with liquid love
swallow
scream your syllables
I ride to your rhythm, the pieces moon
come
here to the waters edge
wrap in sand crystals & close off cavities that gush
at the borderline
how I wish this wasn’t for you

Hamilton Zine Fest took place in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton), Aotearoa (New Zealand) in May 2021, but I'm still a little in love with the poster.
Far from being an end of days scenario, the visuals refer to the Meteor Theatre, which hosted the event.

I love when my son makes connections. Te Karere is on tv rn and they were doing a story about something happening in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) and their background picture as they talked about it was of the Fairfield bridge across the Waikato river.
Next thing I know he has my coffee table book about the Waikato region and he's flipping through pages until he can find the pictures of the city and all the bridges including that one, because he recognised it.
