LK Chen Scarlet Sunrise Jian - What to Expect - History - YouTube
LK Chen Scarlet Sunrise
In this video, we look at the elegant and refined Scarlet Sunrise Jian by LK Chen. It is based on the design of Jian found in the Jin Dynasty (266-420 AD) just after the fall of the Han Dyansty. It also represents the end of the first Jian era, when the Dao took over the battlefield. It wouldn't be for another 1000 years that the Jian would again appear on the battlefield in the Song Dynasty. This sword is extremely light and hosts a number of ornate decorations and fittings, the Chi-Long (Hornless Dragon) on the belt slide, the bird on the guard, and the Tao-Tie on the pommel and chape. There are two versions of this sword available, the original long jian, and the compact jian which is the length of modern martial arts jian.

rant
i preordered chen’s polaris album from a certain shop on twt a month ago. And they only got back to me now, saying that they’ll be sending the order confirmation tonight, and they’re expecting me to pay it in like 5 days. LIKE TF????
I WAS WAITING FOR A MONTH FOR A CONFIRMATION THAT MY ORDER WAS SECURED, BUT THEY DIDN’T SEND ANY. I LK LOST HOPE BECAUSE EVEN THEIR MASTERLIST WASN’T UPDATED. SO I ASSUMED MY ORDER WOULDN’T PUSH THROUGH.
I even followed up via DM weeks ago to ask if my order was secured just so I would know how to manage my money accordingly and they didn’t even reply until today!
So frustrating! I understand that sellers have lives too and that they can’t send OCs ASAP, heck I was a seller too before I got into medschool, but what irks me is that they’re accepting orders all those days and yet, they couldn’t even let their customers know that their orders are counted.
Tbf, I did get a copy of my response for their gforms but that’s different from an OC. They explicitly stated there that they’re going to send a separate email for the OC.
Like the name itself says it all, ORDER CONFIRMATION, which means it confirms my order. So without it, how am i supposed to know if my order will push through???
You can’t expect people to shell out a sum of money as soon as you send an OC, especially knowing how painfully expensive day to day living is. It just doesn’t work like that.

Photographic unboxing of my Magnificent Chu Jian from LK Chen
From their website on this sword:
“Magnificent Chu Jian from LK Chen is model after the design of 2,000+ year old Chu Jian specimens excavated during the 1950-1980 from tombs dating back to 315 - 221 BC, in regions within the ancient Kingdom of Chu.   Kingdom of Chu was famous throughout the land for their steel swords and Chu Jian’s fame was mentioned in multiple  historical records.  Contemporary with the mature bronze swords, Chu Jian represents an advancement in iron foundry technology and is an example of early transition from bronze to steel weapons.
In the hand guard are two inscriptions in ancient bird-worm seal script of the word for gentleman warrior 士 “Shi””
I am highly impressed with this sword, its exquisite craftsmanship shines through clearly and handles very well. The attention to detail is amazing, down to the hand painted scabbard design. The quality is on par with my Albion sword. - REGIII, 32, RAM

Sforza - Early 15th Century Italian Sword | LK Chen
Sforza is a recreation of a beautifully proportioned early 15th century Italian sword, one of over 170 bearing inscriptions from the Arsenal of Alexandria in Egypt. The original was sold by Sotheby's i 1979.  This sword is very similar to the one in the Royal Armory collection and likely forged by the same sword maker sometime before 1432.
The typology of this sword is Oakeshott XIX which was popular during the 15th century The complex blade features a ricasso, flat hexagonal blade that change to lenticular shape at the tip.   The wide and flat blade make Sforza a powerful cutter.
The sword has a very early example of a guard for the forefinger, which was an early step in a series of developments that would lead into increasingly complex hilts of the later 15th century and beyond. By looping the forefinger over the unsharpened ricasso, a user would be better able to align the edge when cutting and also gain a more refined control of the tip. Having the finger in front of the cross-guard would leave it vulnerable on a simple cross-hilted sword, hence the development of the protective hook.
The recreation of this sword is a collaboration between LK Chen and Matt Easton, who offer much valuable guidance and advise, as well as providing the dimensions and specifications of the original Italian sword.

What are your favorite types of swords?
Do you have any personal theories about the creation of true damascus steel?
What are the top 3 swords you would recommend for home defense?
I love swords.... that have a SOLID construction...
when you can look at a sword and go "if I reversed it and hit someone over the head with the hilt/guard, it wouldn't even rattle afterwards" that to me is amore
as a kid I loved the knightly swords, the long boys with the straight cross-hilt guards, but now I just desperately pine for anything with a curved single edge and maybe a sharpened false edge at the tip O///O so like, messers, sabers of some forms, hangers, the shamshir, the kilij-
oh my gods WAIT also also any jian by LK Chen okay it's a straight sword but oh wow WOW and they did a much more affordable version of the Munich town guard sword which is just, so, so pretty and satisfying to my brain...
not much interested in the whole damascus steel thing. Any sword that gets used is gonna get beat up in the end, so for me it's more of How Well Is It Put Together and How Easily Could I Fix It.
or How Cheap Would It Be To Replace This
if I could someday own a bronze short sword, now THAT would be true bliss.
Home defense?
....
Don't use a sword for home defense.
To me a sword is nice because its easy to carry and a fairly good compromise between several better things that wouldn't be so easy to carry.
Maybe I don't wanna walk several miles lugging a spear AND a shield around just in case of gets attacked :(
Sword is nice then. Better reach than a knife, not as clunky as a spear, can be used to block and parry pretty well, only problem is they're not very intuitive to use.
(please don't eff up your wrist by overextending it while swinging a hunk of metal it's not worth it it's not it's not)
so when I go for long walks I actually just carry a staff or walking stick WITH a knife. I'm not trusting my life on a sword if I can help it.
Home defense I'd, I'd really say please don't wave a sword at someone who got into your house. Even in Ye Oldie Times I feel like, throwing stuff is the better bet unless you've been spending a good bit of time training with the sword and preferably actually fighting with it. Or are lucky and good at a bluff.
Like... a master swordsman might fear the unpredictable windmilling of an amateur...
...but a scared guy with a knife doesn't need to be a master knife guy to rush in and kill you after your first overextended swing.
Poking at someone from out of their range might work better but gods help you if they smack your sword point away with their coat or whatever.
People are good at throwing things though! I suggest a heavy ceramic mug. Or several.
If you really want a sword in your house then something straight-ish and short-ish would be best unless you live in a Very Open Space house. Don't worry about hand protection either. Unless your visitor also brought a sword this probably won't turn into a duel. Or last long enough for hand injuries to be a big worry.
If you have a longsword with a screw-on pommel maybe just loosen that up and end them rightly. If nothing else it'd be really funny way to go XD
please note: i am not a resource for good information i am an idiot on the internet but im also not kidding about the wrist thing, swing with your arm not with your wrist unless you've got one of those hilt-heavy light-tipped swords with amazing point control or are really good at redirecting momentum cheers <3
Also shoutout to my baby the Devil's Edge Celtic Short Sword for sale on Kult of Athena's website, she's a heavy hunk of historically inaccurate metal that was just barely within my price range at ammunition grade and I love her dearly <3 <3 <3
truly proof that your "type" doesn't always dictate the whims of your heart ^w^ b

Have you heard of LK Chen? They sell cheapish, but decent hand-forged Chinese swords. They're sweet people too. I own one and bought another for a friend. There are probably much much cheaper options out these if what you want is just shiny thing. I just love swords.
Wow, while they’re out of my price range (being almost nothing atm) they make some beautiful blades.
Honestly though, any sword I might actually get would be decor. With my awkwardness and lack of coordination I’m a danger to myself with anything sharper than a table knife.
