Eugene's 100 Best (and Most Rewatchable) Horror Films
89 Triangle (2009)
How best to describe this film without spoiling it?
Imagine a single shot of an animated movie.
To achieve that shot there are an number of cells layered upon each other.
That is this film.
Many layers to make up the whole.
And even if you know the spoiler you will want to see it again and again to see the layers in play.

Rugby: World title next mission for national champions HBHS

Rugby: World title next mission for national champions HBHS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the Hastings Boys’ High School’s first XV rugby side celebrated their second National Top Four title in three years today manager Jason Bird’s attention had already turned to a bigger mission.
“We’ve qualified for the world championship again and as we only lose five or six players from this team we have to give that a crack again in April,” Bird said after his Hurricanes champions beat Blues champions King’s College of Auckland 27-14 in the Palmerston North-hosted National Top Four final.
HBHS went to the Sanix World Youth Invitational Tournament in Fukoka last year and finished second with a 35-5 loss to Fiji’s Ratu Kadavulevu School. That was always going to be a tough assignment after losing the bulk of the 2017 National Top Four-winning side and next year it shouldn’t be as hard.
“I’m immensely proud of these boys. Their willingness to do anything for each other helped them achieve what they did today,” Bird said.
“At the same time this final wasn’t won until Mercedes [fullback Hodge] scored our final try in the 67th minute. King’s are an awesome team and they kept coming back.”
Bird agreed it would be awesome to have the first XV honoured by being involved in next weekend’s Blossom Festival parade in Hastings as was the case in 2017. However this time he would also like to see the school’s national invitational under-15 tournament champions and Super 8 title-winning second XV also involved.
“Yes I would definitely make all three teams available as this is the first year we have won all three of those competitions. It’s also the second time we have had the Moascar Cup and the last time was in 2006,” HBHS principal Rob Sturch said referring to the “Ranfurly Shield” of secondary schools rugby.
King’s had taken the Moascar Cup off St Kentigern’s College earlier in the season. St Kentigern’s had earlier taken if off St Peter’s College of Auckland who took it off Napier Boys’ High School last year.
Sturch’s grin was just as big as those sported by the players and coaches Tafai Ioasa and Karl Lowe.
“Miserable conditions like this and we still had four mini vans full of supporters. They contained 44 boys who were prepared to come out and support the team in their uniforms. We also had to leave some boys behind because we had no room,” Sturch explained.
Just as he was in Friday’s 11-10 semifinal win against Hamilton Boys’ High School, first five-eighth Latrell Ah Kiong, was the key architect of the Hastings side’s victory. He captured the official player-of-the-match award for the second time in three days.
“The boys had a lot of fun out there against a classic King’s side. They are one of the toughest teams we have faced all year and it was good knowing the boys had my back,” Ah Kiong said.
“This feeling we are experiencing now means everything. All the pain we have gone through, all the fitness sessions … it was all worth it,” he added.
Like his team Ah Kiong produced a complete performance. His tactical kicking was spot on, his defensive reads were accurate, his assists classy and to succeed with five of his six attempts at goal in the atrocious conditions was a huge achievement.
Winger Joeli Rauca opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a try following clever buildup work from Ah Kiong and centre Andrew Hayward. Ah Kiong converted.
An Ah Kiong penalty in the 12th minute extended the lead and the score remained 10-0 until the halftime whistle. Another Ah Kiong penalty put Hastings ahead 13-0 in the 41st minute.
A period of sustained pressure from King’s saw first five-eighth Aidan Morgan score and convert in the 48th minute. Ten minutes later substitute prop Jeremiah Tuiatua made a spectacular charge and scored for Hastings. Ah Kiong again added the extras.
King’s remained in the battle when centre Meihana Grindlay scored and Morgan added the extras to have his side trailing 20-14. It was appropriate Ah Kiong should have plenty of involvement in Hodge’s try and also kick the final conversion of the match.
Expect HBHS to have a good chance of going back-to-back next year. However as Bird said: “That’s a long way off. The world title is enough to focus on now and a lot of work will go into that during the next couple of months.”
Scorers: Hastings Boys’ High School 27 (Joeli Rauca, Jeremiah Tuiatua, Merces Hodge tries; Latrell Ah Kiong 3 cons, 2 pens), King’s College 14 (Aidan Morgan, Meihana Grindlay tries; Morgan 2 cons). HT: 10-0.
Several members of the 2017 title-winning HBHS team were in the Hawke’s Bay under-19 side which walloped Southland 44-0 at the national under-19 tournament in Taupo today.
Hawke’s Bay will meet North Harbour in their semifinal of the Michael Jones Trophy section on Wednesday. Against Southland Hawke’s Bay led 17-0 at halftime.
Openside flanker Liam Udy-Johns, who scored two tries, prop Patrick Teddy and hooker Damarus Hokianga were prominent in the dominant Bay forward pack.
Fullback Ben Kelt used his pace to create plenty of havoc out wide. Hokianga, Teddy, No Luke Russell, substitute props Troy McIvor and Zac Southwick and substitute outside back also scored for the Bay and halfback Sam Walton-Sexton and substitute inside back Arana Murphy kicked conversions.

[Image text: Restraint and Denial — A Handbook for Clergymen]
Restraint and Denial — A Handbook for Clergymen on Archive of Our Own.*
A “If Patrick McKenna Lived?” alternative universe exploring his recovery and a growing relationship with another priest, Liam McIvor, who is helping take care of him. An Angel & Demons and Breakfast on Pluto crossover.
Timeline
June 21, 1999, a month after the night of the conclave.
Location
The majority of story takes place in Vatican City. Liam and McKenna are staying in a room at the Domus Sanctae Marthae, a guest house for visitors.
Characters
Patrick McKenna (36)
Saved by Robert Langdon from his attempted suicide by self-immolation. He has burn scars covering his left arm and part of the side of his face. McKenna has very little clear memories about the night of the conclave and the days leading up to it. He doesn’t trust what he does remember.
Liam McIvor (53)
Has lived in Kilburn, London for the past two years after his church burned down in County Cavan, Ireland after a hate crime unrelated to The Troubles. He was asked by Pope Luke to come to the Vatican and take care of McKenna with little explanation.
Patricia Braden (24)
Liam’s illegitimate daughter. She had an uneasy transition growing up in a religious community. Currently lives in London with her best friend Charlie and Charlie’s two year old son, Lawrence.
Father Cooper (58)
A British priest also staying at Domus Sanctae Marthae. He arrived a week after Pope Luke was elected. He helps out in the kitchen and performs English Mass at the Cappella Santa Marta.
Sister Lazarus (80)
An Italian nun that delivers their meals and medications. She works in the kitchen at Domus Sanctae Marthae and the workers’ cafeteria. She also has a lay niece that works in the art restoration department.
Father Longo & Barone (38)
Two local Italian priests that visit Domus Sanctae Marthae every weekday for lunch. They were in St. Peter's Square after the antimatter explosion to offer their help.
Father Filoni (72)
An Italian priest that was McKenna’s previous caretaker. Reluctantly took the job only because Pope Luke asked him.
Dr. Manfredi (53)
A local Italian doctor from the hospital McKenna was taken to for his burns.
Father Porzio (??)
A Vatican doctor that takes Patrick as a new patient. Arranges for a burn specialist to visit.
Relationships
It took some time for Liam and Patricia’s relationship as father and daughter to grow after the truth was revealed. Though Liam doesn’t understand everything he’s supportive of his daughter’s gender and sexuality identity. She has even helped him figure out his own.
Liam felt drawn to McKenna the moment they first met. Due to his trauma, McKenna seeks out Liam’s comforting touches and only his. McKenna thinks Liam resembles Saint Columba, the saint said to have saved his life as a child.
Liam quickly becomes friends with Cooper, Longo, and Barone. The trio help him with questions and errands. Lazarus is helpful too but is so busy Liam hasn’t had a chance to really get to know her.

Triangle Movie Review
Director and writer: Christopher Smith. 2009
One more mindfuck-able movie.
If you like puzzles you should watch this movie, because as the plot moves foward you’re given more pieces that you have to, sort of, figure out where they fit on the story, or they help to build theories to follow the story, so it keeps you thinking for a while; however, it gets kind of boring around 2/3 into the movie.
I think that they tried to do a plot twist towards the end but it kind of didn’t work, at least not for me.
I’d give it three out of five ships on a timeloop.

Triangle (2009)
Fantasy, Mystery, Thriller |
Triangle is a psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Smith and starring Melissa George and Michael Dorman. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2009. George portrays a single mother who goes on a boating trip with several friends. When they are forced to abandon their ship, they board a derelict ocean liner, where they become convinced that someone is stalking them.
While preparing to take Tommy, her son with autism, on a boat trip along with her friend Greg, Jess hears the doorbell ring, but no one is there. She later arrives at a harbour in Florida without Tommy, explaining that he is at school, and boards Greg’s boat. She meets Greg’s married friends Sally and Downey, Sally’s friend Heather, and Victor, a runaway teen living with Greg. While out at sea, the wind dies and a storm approaches, and they pick up a distress signal while radioing the coast guard. The storm capsizes the boat, during which Heather is swept out into the water, and the others climb onto the overturned boat when the storm clears.
They board an ocean liner as it passes; it appears to be deserted, yet there is fresh food in a dining room. Jess experiences a growing sense of déjà vu as they explore. They find Jess’s keys in a corridor near a display case for Aeolus, the ship’s namesake, leading Sally to believe Heather has also boarded. Jess soon spots someone watching them and Victor gives chase. She and Greg continue on and find “Go To Theater” written in blood on a mirror. After they part, she returns to the dining room, where the food is now rotting.
