Redwood Manor, Bedlington, Brindleton Bay 1842.
New Year's celebrations arrived in Bedlington, Redwood Manor was filled with ostentatious decorations and mistletoe everywhere as a way to say goodbye to the year and celebrate a warm evening in this cold winter.
The Redwoods were dressed in their traditional red, proud to see the family reunited once again as in the old days.
This year they also invited Edgar, Clara and their families to join the dinner. The younger members of the family came to celebrate as well, John was happy to be able to play with his cousins, he loved entertaining little Greenland and Lucile along with Suzette.
Madeleine and Wendla joined each other at the diningroom, it was a coincidence of life that both were pregnant almost at the same time, so they could talk about how they were coping with the pregnancy, both couples were very anxious about the arrival of future heirs.

Wolfsbane Manor, 1937. Forgotten Hollow.
The Straud family arranged a reception for Madeleine and Edgar’s wedding party. The entire family was reunited by the young couple with upper-class people like the Cattson and the governess, due to Vladislaus' influences as the last living founder of Forgotten Hollow.
The young married men were coming down the main staircase, showing themselves in society for the first time as Lord and Lady Straud, happy, young, passionate and with high hopes for a full life together.
Edgar looked like another man, he’s never been so affectionate towards anyone, if Percy had done the same, he would have been the target of his mockery when they were teenagers. But Madeleine had that power in her, almost as if it were a passionate countenance.

Forgotten Hollow, 1841.
Dear mother and father, my last letters have been a long time ago and I must apologize. Adapting to such a different environment than Brindleton Bay has been hard, with the addition of becoming a husband along with all the expectations that that entails
As for the new home, I still find it rather dark and gloomy, as in Forgotten Hollow the sunset comes very suddenly.
In Wolfsbaner Manor time seems to be governed by other parameters. My first months felt that time was only reflected in the appearance of Countess Straud, in the celebration of our wedding I had not noticed that she seems much older than Count Straud.
The mansion rooms is full of portraits of the count or of very similar relatives among them, had never seen such a distinctive facial heritage, it seems that Madeleine was the exception.
As for my father-in-law, Count Vladislaus Straud, he is a rather reserved man, if solemn image was not stunned at any time since I am living here. It would seem that his emotions were overwhelmed.
As for her appearance, I have noticed that his pale skin next to the candlelight highlights the shadows under her eyes, along with a scar on the side of her face.
I hope to be able to stay in contact soon, I hope to meet you at Winterfest there in Redwood Manor.

New Redwood Manor, Bedlington, Brindleton Bay Summer 1839
The New regencial home of the Redwood family had been completed, all the interior rooms were ready to be rebuilt. Due to the high temperatures of that year, the family party for the opening of Redwood Manor took place in the garden of the residence.
Despite the heat, Lady Evangeline and Madeleine were comfortable with their returned family, because they could not integrate into family gatherings so often: Madeleine for the distance and Evangeline for her rigorous mourning
The Redwoods hadn’t been together for so long that it was a good occasion for the younger members of the family to spend time together.
Suzette and Robert were 6 years old and had fun playing in the garden, young John Redwood and Adelaide Straud barely had a year old.

It was already afernoon and the clouds were hiding in the sun, that’s when Edgar decided to invite Madeleine Straud for a walk through the governor’s gardens, as he knew that was his favorite weather to walk.
Both were talking until Edgar’s nervous tone caught Madeleine’s attention
Madeline: Eddie, do you feel well? What is happening?
Edgar: Madeleine, I can no longer postpone my feelings to you. Madeleine Elizabeth Straud, would you make me the happiest man in the world by becoming my wife?
She was totally surprised, this proposal was totally surprising. It looked like years would pass before they decided to get engaged.
Madeleine: Edgar! Excuse me, but I can’t marry you.
Edgar was even more surprised than Madeleine by the rejection of his proposal. It seemed that everything could work.
Edgar: No? Why can you not marry me? Is there anyone else? Are you already engaged?
Madeleine: It’s nothing like that, Edgar. Because of family tradition, I can’t be engaged or marry anyone.

Edgar was disoriented, couldn’t understand her rejecting his proposal. I had been courting Madeleine for years but she had never mentioned this tradition that forbade her to marry
Edgar: How can you not marry me? Are there any other suitors? Were you already engaged?
Madeleine: No. I can’t get married because I should take your last name, Edgar. I am the only heir of the Straud lineage, so my father has told me all my life that I must carry my name until the day of his death. I can’t live anywhere but Forgotten Hollow either
Edgar: Why haven’t you ever told me this? We’ve known each other since we were 18, Madeleine. We’ve been through a war with the illusion of being together.
Madeleine: I didn’t dare tell you because I was afraid of losing you, even though it might not belong to you.
Edgar: Then let ME belong to you. I don’t need you to take my last name, I’ll move to Forgotten Hollow if necessary, none of which will affect my affection for you.
Madeleine: Could you do that for me? Leave Bedlington? I could never ask you for such a thing.
Edgar: Bedlington is just a house, I don’t care about losing it as much as the idea of losing you.
Edgar did not understand the weight of his decision yet, but nothing mattered. After six long years, he could finally marry Madeleine

The celebration of waiting had become a sea of murmurs protruding above the sound of the instruments. The whole room was flooded with looks of astonishment, bewilderment and amazement.
Andrew and Clara showed up at the room. But nothing drew more attention than Suzette’s presence in her father’s arms. This was an important moment, Andrew was taking with him the child that his parents stubbornly denied, affirming their paternity in front of all the guests.
Mother and daughter were beautiful, wearing the national color green of Brindleton and Clara wore the jewels her mother had given her, she’s never been so ornate and ostentatious in her life
All eyes were on the young couple and the little girl. Among all the guests were the look of rejection of the Redwood triplets and the distressed look of Amber, who hoped that her sister knew what was triggering.
The women of the room approached Clara, many with a look of anguish or compassion towards her.
Clara showed that she was proud and confident of herself and Andrew, behaving like the real hostess of the night.
Lady Redwood is totally disgusted by the lack of decorum and respect for her to introduce Suzette to everyone tonight, she would not stand for her family to go through that shamelessness.
M. Anne: What are you doing mother? Let me go. I’m going back to the celebration with Alice and Dad.
L. Redwood: I won’t let them ruin our reputation. Your sister and you getting married are in two weeks. I assure you, you’ll end up a dowry-less, childless spinster if you go back in there.

In the meeting at the Barrow house there were a variety of situations, the women dressed in white due to the heat of the day contrasted with those who were mourning out of respect for their husbands or engaged on the battlefield.
Rose: The only thing more unbearable than having relatives in war is having to wear black on a day like this. I envy the possibility of wearing white.
Amber: Aunt Rose, I think there are several who would envy your situation of having a husband like Aunt Jacques. Clara insisted on allowing her to wear black jewelry and black bonnet, but her mother didn’t allow it
Rose: Could it be that your sister has finally found a candidate? Maybe it's the way to advertise it.
Evangeline: I really hope this doesn't last long, I worry just thinking about my beloved Francis fighting those beasts.
Madeleine: Some of us are luckier than others. Look at Wendla, she's lucky to have your brother at home. But will George be happy with her?

Redwood Manor
After the church celebration, all social gatherings, including lunch at the bride's home in Redwood Manor, were canceled in order to prepare for the men's departure to the battlefront next Monday. The Redwoods were organizing their supplies while Edgar said goodbye to his beloved Madeleine Straud and George received a visit from his doctor.
Rose: What do you mean George is unable to enlist? He went to military college at the same time as Edgar
Jacques: It's not negotiable, Rose. George has been very complicated by his illness these last weeks, he is not fit for the army. Brindleton Bay needs healthy people in its forces.
Rose: Poor our son, I can't think of the helplessness he must feel not being able to take care of his homeland.

In the days after the announcement of the war, all the citizens of Brindleton Bay were preparing to be ready to face anything. Edgar practiced his maneuvers every day, while during those days they had received Madeleine Straud, the young woman he was cutting.
Madeleine was a curious creature, she loved to paint in the company of Jacques, but she could only do it when the sun did not finish rising, she enjoyed embroidery, piano, violin and singing. The most peculiar thing about her used to dress as a young lady of her social position, but curiously she used to be seen dressed in old-fashioned or old-fashioned clothes when she took night walks, hers a simply peculiar young lady.

Widowshild Church, Forgotten Hollow, 1837.
On a cloudy afternoon,, the marriage between young Lord Edgar Redwood and Lady Madeleine Straud took place at Widowshild Church in Forgotten Hollow, the church was donated to the town by the bride’s family.
In the Straud family at weddings the whole family attend weddings in mourning clothes, as a traditional symbol of respect for the future marriage, The Redwoods decided not to importune this tradition.
Edgar’s family never opposed his son’s decision to give up the Redwood name by Madeleine’s last name. Jacques knew that they knew that Redwood blood held him together.
The young couple in love had never been so happy to finally be together, after years of war they could settle down and form a family together. Madeleine was marrying in a brown muslin dress, which symbolized that she would always live in the city where she was born.
