i'm gonna cry MAG 77 was literally everything. its so clear how much gertrude knows and she's such a badass and the differences between the way she records the statements and jon records the statements cause like jon puts a lot of emphasis on himself, i guess as a reflex at the start to make it look like he knows what he's doing but gertrude doesnt feel the need to do that, she's just straight to the point and focused on the case. i love how they're so different and the scariest thing is that gertrude oozes competence and jon knows that but that still didn't save her. also my man is so distressed about sasha he cares so much and i'm also so distressed about sasha

She looked younger in these pictures, just like my father, and across the dozen pictures on the wall I could see a timeline of this woman growing old alongside him. There was no way these photos could have been staged, and I could even see a small crease on the bottom corner of the Hanover picture.

Oh kind mother <3 I know a lot of people find this episode terrifying, but I've always just found it overwhelmingly tragic.

I love the detail of the NotThem wearing her mother's clothes, only they've been resized to fit it. Gertrude is right, the reality-altering capacity of this creature is staggering.

Confirmation that the NotThem creates a general vibe of unease even while it's camouflaged. This has definitely contributed to the terrible energy in the Archives since Prentiss's attack.

Okay, yeah, this is horrifying. A monster that simulates the experience of being forced to hug strangers at family functions who recognise you despite the fact that you're certain you've never seen them before in your life.

It's probably just me, but the 'realistic' explanations she comes up with seem more terrying that the face-stealing monster.

Oh that seems like a truly terrible idea. The last thing you want to do is deliberately expose a thing that survives by blending in. It's already killed at least once that you're aware of, do you really want to provoke it?

I have a nasty feeling that keeping it a secret from Tim and Martin is somehow gonna backfire though. Tim is already angry at Jon. Uhhh. And maybe Jon will try to do something stupid to get rid of Not Sasha but idk yet what level of stupid we're talking about.

i have some thoughts about the not-them and this might have been said before but i'm gonna say it anyways. i think they leave the few people knowing that that person isn't the same as they were on purpose because the focus isn't on the fact that they're taking people's identities without people knowing, its the fact that only a few people DO know and those people are the ones the people around them are least likely to believe. who's gonna believe melanie that sasha isn't the real sasha? she's never been that close and jon certainly doesn't trust her. who's gonna believe Lucy Cooper that her mum's not her mum? everyone knows they had a rough relationship and this might just be a manifestation of that? they enjoy the confusion and terror of making someone feel insane and feel like they can't trust their environment and i think that individual terror makes them exactly as scary as they are. imo if they did have a purpose as gertrude robinson said, then more people would realise what was going on and find some sort of solace with each other which defeats the whole point of the not-them. anyway what are y'all rotating on this fine fine morning

This is also the second time we've had a mention of The [something] from a gertrude tape - first The End and now The Stranger - and i dont quite know what to make of it. Maybe they're people or creatures of some kind?? The end was mentioned as a creator or distributor of one of the leitner books iirc, so there's that, but idk abt the stranger. Whatever they are, gertrude is clearly familiar with them enough to name drop so casually

But . The way jon was talking at the end,,, , i really hope sasha isnt dead dead. I realllyyyyyyy need her to not be dead dead. wtf is gonna happen if she is? and they kill the not sasha? no more sasha ever?????????
