Tachygraph
A tachygraph (Merch /ˌta.kɪˈgɾaf/, also informally a tachy or tacky /ˈta.kəi/) is a device with a keyboard for typing text onto paper [i.e. a typewriter], or more recently directly onto a slate [computer screen].
Etymology
The word "tachygraph" originates in the mid-nineteenth century as a brand name. It is derived from Ancient Greek τᾰχῠ́ς • (takhús) "quick, fast" and γρᾰ́φω • (gráphō) "draw, write".
History
Early tachygraphs in the 1830s and 40s were extremely cumbersome, with most models only capable of setting type at a fraction of the speed of practised handwriting. The Armanburg Tachygraph (Tachygrafia Armangrod), which was commercially available in Poland from 1842, was so awkward to use that it was lampooned in the bit-sheets [cheap newspapers] as the Bradygrafia (literally the “slow-writer”).
Since very early on, attempts have been made to connect tachygraphs to the steeplemesh [telegraph network], so that one could type a message onto paper and simultaneously transmit a copy of the message to someone else (ideally, automating a tachygraph to type the message out also on the receiving end).
The first tachygraph specifically able to send messages on the steeplemesh was the Vilmanas Teleclavia, designed in Lithow [Lithuania] by Tomas Vilmanas in 1859. Its first message (the first line from Ovid's Heroines, reproduced below) was sent on Michaelmas of that year to his friend Margreta Legaite in Tvaniste.
· A B C D E F G · HAEC TUA PENELOPE LENTO TIBI MITTIT ULISSE · a b c d e f g. This your Penelope sends to you, long-delayed Ulysses.
Historical films have made much of the fact that this message was sent less than a month after the 1859 Auroric Anomaly [the Carrington Event], but there is no evidence Vilmanas considered its effects (though he must have been aware of the stories of messages along unpowered steeplepost wires).
In the late nineteenth century, the Faxim brand of tachygraph was sold across Borland.

I’m so glad that so many people have randomly adopted Margreta as canon in the last 24 hours lmao

ÆÜGH UR MAKING ME MELT AHHHH- ILY TOO, like the SpongeBob to my Patrick in the most positive sense 💆‍♀️ also DAMN YOU TIME ZONES (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ tmw u wanna send ur asks at a reasonable time but the blog owner is only active when you have to got to sleep or during school hours- *sigh* at least there's the weekends. Go get that sleep brother(gender neutral) the sheer insanity of some of my lore are best digested after a full nights sleep
And honestly you can go nuts with the headcanons if you want, considering that I've got nothing except for the core personality traits developed anyways lol. Mans was a screeching Minecraft kid fr in his youth 😔 | Me @ Nonny: No bitches?
Main characters aside and back to the extras, because I think the ayato rip-off was part of the 3 characters we made during German period actually O_O whoops onto the character descriptions (not all too detailed because I'm at school and still need to find the actual character sheets at home and oof)
-So like, the Koreaboo was also like a vsco "girl" so to say (save da turtles!) and also an e-boy, I think there was a linkin park reference written somewhere next to his character like "CRAWLING IN MY SKIIIIIIIN" except it read crawling in my crawl because it was an inside joke between me and my friends. He wore a fuck ton of scrunchies around both of his arms and had AirPods, he also has a common Korean name, but it's written with a lot of éèêîõñåū if yknow what I mean, I think he was also a tsundere?
-the koreaboos boyfriend, uhhh he's Swedish, his name was like Björn or smth, we made a Cousin for him at some point, he was never finished, I think he vapes??
-Ayato rip-off, so like, he's an actual chill guy iirc (he was doing the finger gun pose in his sheet) he was a prince of a neighbouring kingdom in our story and marries,,,, the character I'm gonna present next I think. Not sure if we still made him a vampire or if we made him a werewolf just for funnsies 🤔 I'll check once I find the character sheets I guess, also he's a himbo with no braincells, I think his name was Eduard XXVII (it was a twilight reference, Edward -> Eduard)
-Princess #1 (insert world is mine reference) I think her name was smth along the lines of Trudy Lasagna and she was homeless. In the story I think she was crowned homeless Queen at the end. She has a sister whom I'm gonna present next. She has a purple patchwork dress and a burgerking crown, I forgot what her whole personality was, I think it was the stereotypical Disney Princess one??
-Princess #2, i think her name was Pisa Margreta (yes it's a Play on Pizza Margarita) and she was theeeee older(?) sister of Trudy. In the story I think she tried to poison Trudy, but was caught and I'm not sure if she just got exiled or actually sentenced to death but oh well. So like, the thing about her is, she was inspired by Cinderella, e x c e p t, she has a pumpkin head and spaghetti hair, her limbs are also made out of one wooden stick per limb, like she's the worst scarecrow ever. Actually, maybe she was cursed to look like that but idek anymore.
So the thought process for their names were "Ayo what if we gave them the worst possible names possible? Like, what's the ugliest old lady names we can give these princesses?" And then we slapped a pasta theme onto their names too lmao and the rest was history
-Ren'py anon
PATRICK AND SPONGEBOB THAT'S AWESOME JDNEIFHE
The timezone thing is sooooo sad! I wanna be able to answer you asks in a timely manner, but I also wanna catch some Z's-
Anyway, you know, that's crazy bc me and anon nonny played minecraft a lot as kids 😱😱😱 We have something in common!!!1!1!1
Jokes aside though, me and my sister did grow up going on creative mode and building houses out of the good shit like diamond, emerald, gold, and whatnot. They'd be like, as tall as the fucking empire state building, and then we would blow it up with dynamite after all that hard work.
So Koreaboo boy was a mix of vsco and e boy? Esco boy ig (Thank you Izzy from Total drama Action for your persona Escope <3)
He would be out with a million scrunchies on his wrists while having a middle part (He left his uneven bangs out and the rest is tied up) and a Thrasher shirt on with a stripped long sleeve under (Can't forget the hydroflask glued to his hand!) And I oop! Sksksk
"What are u looking at? You think my style is weird??? Well I don't care! At least I'm saving the turtles sksksksk!!!"
His Sweedish bf would either cuss me out in Sweedish and say FUCK YOU at the end for insulting his Koreaboo bf (AND IMMA DO IT AGAIN IDGAF)
Tbh I think they got together bc the Sweedish dude found it interesting how 'different' the Koreaboo boy was from general society and wanted to learn more about his style and 'koreanness'/his love for East Asian cultures (Probably just Japan and Korea tbh) God I hate them so much already.
Honestly, his style would look stupid as hell 😥
Homeless princess x Eduard vampire...
Sounds like if Wattpad and Fanfiction.net had a baby. Also, how does homeless crownings officiate?? And ay, that design is pretty solid if I do say so myself. Burger King crowns are the GOAT to any character design 😎 patchwork dresses can be cute too tf
Eduard sounds actually pretty nice. Instead of Ayato I was thinking of Valentine from Monster high bc I remembered Toralies and Clawdeens little sister and their debate on who's the better looking vampire.
"NO, obviously it's is Edweird~" - quoted from Toralie
Pasta Cinderella sister tries poisoning her other sister gone wrong 4k 1080p high quality HD
on blue ray never!
That design sounds scary just thinking about it 😭 Pumpkin head spaghetti hair but also a bad scarecrow? Man these streets be ratchet asf. Also, are they Italian? All this wordplay with pasta and pizza makes me go, "Yep that's Italian. Italian is when remarked worldwide foods." /hj
And you know, I start to love royal characters more when the have ridiculous names instead of actual ones. Ask Me For Directions Arnold from Genshin's summer event was SOOOO funny and lovable (He was a crow statue that had a crush on Mona and it was the cutest thing ever!)
When they have actual names, its boring and I don't wanna suck up to the monarchy so 😑
Thanks for giving me insight on all of you characters renpy anon! It was so fun analyzing their summaries and how they came to be! Lots of reading for literally just waking up, but it kept me busy and I thoroughly enjoyed doing so.

Character: Princess Margreta Status: Requested starter for Prince Hans from @islecaptain
Tumblr media
It was down, the barrier was down. The one thing that had been separating them was gone, the place that had stolen her father away was now no more and she didn’t waste time. Even when her uncles yelled for her to stop and think, even with everything she had been told, she refused to stop. That was how she ended up there, her cap pulled tightly down and a battered jacket that was temporarily borrowed from one of the stablehands wrapped around her.
Greta hesitated outside the door of the very establishment that was given to her as a link for the man she was looking for, her heart raised high within her chest as old memories surfaced. Memories with missing parts, broken pictures that lacked certain details. It had been so long, she had grown up so much since then.
Emotions steeled, she pushed open the door. Heels echoed upon the floor, the sight of the place broke her heart. “Hello, I am looking for...” she hesitated, she wasn’t sure she could say that word - what if he didn’t want her anymore? “I’m looking for Prince Hans.”

Also, you can tell Carl Love Jonas Almqvist lived during the early 19th century, aka was born during late 18th century because he have just.
TOO MANY FIRST NAMES!
This is a thing of the higher classes of late 18th century sweden. They give their kids like double name. Like the concept of being named mary - ann yeah. They do that, but thrice, or like with Carl Jonas Love Almqvist. A "double name" consisting of FOUR NAMES

Hello! My mother happens to have a coupon from her job that she can spend on books. It expires on August 31st but she told me she'll get some for me if I want. So I'm looking for books about Hamlet. I've been following your blog for a while and value your contribution. Do you have any recommendation? Anything goes, from a good looking refined edition, to essays, to comics, to art. I already have Ryan North's To be or not to be. Also any price range goes, as the coupon is around $100. Thank you!
How exciting! The very breadth of possibility makes recommendation difficult, and what I recommend might be different according to your needs… But what any lover/student of Hamlet could do with are many good editions of the play because they give depth to reading and have great introductions that provide an excellent overview. I would recommend buying the Arden Shakespeare third series Hamlet (the revised edition by Anne Thompson), and Hamlet: The Texts Of 1603 And 1623 in the same series, if you’re interested in the different textual versions of Hamlet. You could also get the Oxford Shakespeare Hamlet, which is a conflated edition, and if you’re looking for a pretty edition to buy, the folio society does a bound hardback of this edition. A good alternative Q2 Hamlet to the Arden is the Cambridge Shakespeare if you want something slimmer. (see here for my guide to Shakespeare editions).
Scholarly monographs on a single play have gone a little out of fashion (though that doesn’t mean there aren’t any out there), which means it’s hard to think of recent publications that are specifically about Hamlet… David Bevington’s Murder Most Foul: Hamlet Through the Ages is a good general read, not overly scholarly, which might be attractive to people who have an interest in both text and theatre. There’s also Harold Bloom’s Hamlet: Poem Unlimited, which is a pretty good book (though you need not agree with everything he says). And a completely different approach would be something like Margreta de Grazia’s Hamlet without Hamlet, though that might be a little too historical and scholarly if you’re not a student or scholar of Hamlet.
As I’m an academic, I’m not so knowledgeable about fun, enjoyable, general readership books out there, but perhaps my followers can give recommendations by replying to this post!

first message sent using a Vilmanas Teleclavia, arguably the earliest household tachygraph [typewriter] capable of sending messages on the steeplemesh. It was sent on Michael's day in 1859 (less than a month after the Auroric Anomaly [1], about which much has been made in film retrospectives), and received manually by Vilmanas' friend Margreta Legaite in Tvaniste – a machine capable of transcribing directly from the steeplemesh having not yet been developed.
A B C D E F G. HAEC TUA PENELOPE LENTO TIBI MITTIT ULISSE. a b c d e f g. This your Penelope sends to you, long-delayed Ulisses (first line from Ovid's Heroines).
extract from Vitoria Queiros' 1998 quaterno [textbook] Thirteen Inventions which Changed the World (Trize Invenções que Refiz o Mondo), published by Pontudra Editions.
..be tempting to connect these early developments in distributed communication – so vital to the modern concept of Vicinity – directly to our own tachslates and meshfora [2], but it is important to keep in mind the machinery of the era. Even the self-contained tachygraph was still in its infancy, with most models only capable of setting type at at most half the speed of practised handwriting. The Armanburg Tachygraph (Tachygrafia Armangrod), which was commercially available in Poland from 1842, was so awkward to use that it was lampooned in the bit-sheets as the Bradygrafia (literally the "slow-writer", tachygraph meaning "fast-writer").
Moreover, the astraphoric [electric] steeplepost was still so young that it had not displaced the earlier flag-lamp system, widespread across Spain, Gaul and Italy. With some exceptions (notably the Cracow-Bitom line in southern Poland), the ground was clear for the spread of wired post across northern and eastern Europe, and indeed it is from these places that we get most of the astraphor innovations of the late Workshop period (a similar phenomenon is at play in Arabian Cappatia and Lower Mendeva).
So the early wired tachygraphs were cumbersome to use and expensive to...
------ [1] Known in our timeline as the Carrington Event, or the 1859 Solar Storm, this coronal mass ejection caused stong aurorae and wrought havoc on telegraph equipment from August 29th to September 2nd. Some operators even reported being able to send messages along disconnected wires.
[2] A tachslate (Kentish /ˈtak.slɛjt/) is a handheld device capable of sending text messages to other such devices. A meshforum roughly corresponds to our idea of an Internet message board.
