Ninjago Secrecy AU

So in this AU, it’s basically the same as canon, EXCEPT, the ninja stay secret.

it's not JUST their identities. It’s also their literal existence and history.

FSM didn’t want humans, who often misunderstood and killed Yōkai-kind, to know about the Elementals. So he kept himself secret, his two sons secret, and the people he’d later choose to become the first human-ish Elementals secret. Those people were street orphans and abused kids he’d rescued from other humans.

Elementals have basically been behind the scenes (and doing illegal stuff like underage driving) for several millennia, they’ve managed to keep secret all this time and continue to do so in this AU.

When something big comes, like the Great Devourer, the ninja fix it but there’s only eyewitnesses and no camera footage and most of the time they somehow aren’t seen by humans.

Or Jay causes a blackout to make things harder for them to be seen.

Oh, yeah. And Elementals aren’t sure if they’re Humans with powers, something between Yōkai and Humans, or just full-blown Yōkai.

They just don’t know, but they have the senses of Yōkai and they can see very well in the dark- they also have a keen sense of smell, they can follow trails. And their eyes glow, but they can control the glow when they need to. Among other things, like feeling vibrations.

Elementals also have feral instincts, though they can ignore those instincts and act human when the circumstances demand it. Lloyd, his father, and uncle all have Dragoni features like in my Headcanon #1, and they're the most feral.

If you saw my HC about the Elemental Bond, that applies here too.

The Elementals just tell people who ask that they’re a clan. They’re kind of common amongst the Realms, and to help the ninja, their clan is tiny, and sort of IS a clan, just a special one.

Said clans that do exist either live off the land or live modernly now but they all started back in old times, and they keep touch and all nowadays.

The Serpentine often receives a similar reception that Yōkai get, just less than that, so they don’t give the game up- they keep silent about the ninja.

After meeting the ninja, the Formlings, the Geckles and the Munce, and others were asked to and agreed to keep quiet about the Elementals. So does Vania, (idk how that part of Master of the Mountain works but yeah).

In the AU, other Yōkai, (Kitsune, Kappas, Tanukis, Bakenekos, ect.) are more apparent and present in this, and even most of them don’t know about the ninjas, just a few friends know.

The Elementals frequently attack and ambush Yōkai Hunters, and free the trapped Yōkai.

There’s also more mountains around the Monastery, it’s a literal mountain range, and many Yōkai live in them. Years ago they all combined their magic to create a barrier, so humans can’t get in (they just get turned around and all,) unless they’re led, and it's really hard for someone to just find their way in, but it happens occasionally.

IN THIS AU, THE SIX SEE EACH OTHER AS SIBLINGS, EXCEPT MAYBE JAY AND NYA, I CAN'T DECIDE.

Arin knows about the ninja ONLY because he’s from a village near the mountain of the Monastery, and his family is one of the few that the ninja trusted with the knowledge of their existence, because one of Arin’s ancestors, a few generations back, accidentally found a way into the mountains, and got caught in a storm, so the ninja of the time saved him.

Also all the Elementals speak Yōkai. It’s their second language, and their first language is Japanese, English is their third language.

OHHH THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES, I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED!

Okay. First of all, this was a joint project that's been picked up and put down multiple times 😅 but it's progressing, when I do have time to look at and think about it. I've been working with Dragongem17 (on FFN here) for years at this point. (We met doing RP for Ninjago on a private server and have done SO many AUs that we love, I really wouldn't be able to list all of them. I'm determined to get some of these into order for posting for all of you to enjoy 🥰

The concept for this one is pretty straightforward, but it ended up being really fun to mess with different things in various drafts. Here's a run-down.

King Vangelis is the Skull Sorceress, like in canon. It's a hereditary role. Still secret to the people of Shintaro, but it's been going on for decades (even centuries).

Vania inherits the title of Queen and the title of Skull Sorceress. She learns about the mines under the city of Shintaro. She takes up the work her father did and begins to rule over them, albeit unkindly.

The Ninja never receive an invitation to Shintaro. Season 13 and all events afterward don't happen.

Vania begins to plan a full-scale invasion of Ninjago using her Vengestone and army of skeletons/Geckles/Munce. As part of her planning, she secretly visits Ninjago City to get an understanding of how best to take over. She begins a public assault as well, partially as a diversion and partially to gauge Ninjago's defenses.

The Ninja begin battling against Vania's army, sometimes daily. They are mostly fighting a losing battle. Cole meets the masked Sorceress and tries to talk her down, but all she does is flirt with him and beat him up, until literally disappearing via magic. He is more than a little confused.

While Vania is visiting Ninjago in secret, she has a chance meeting with Cole. He's been having bad days since the first battle with the Sorceress, but the two kind of hit it off. Both leave in confusion, not planning to see each other again.

Cole's bad days continue (compounded by fighting the Sorceress), and he routinely visits the same place he met Vania until they somehow meet again. They hit it off this time too, and he gives her his number.

Eventually the two decide they are friends, until Cole gets the courage to ask Vania to go on a date with him. She is torn, but accepts. The two proceed to have a dating relationship, which is complicated by Vania most refusing to say anything about her life in Shintaro. All he knows is that she works for the government.

Vania's web of deception finally starts unfolding. Now genuinely invested in a relationship with Cole, she doesn't want to fight him. He's hurt by her secrecy.

The two have a falling-out of enormous proportions when the Sorceress gets unmasked during battle. Cole breaks up with her immediately. She runs home to Shintaro and takes her whole army with her.

Weeks of radio silence set in. Cole keeps expecting there will be an attack. Vania is actually changing how Shintaro is run. She destroys the Skull.

Vania establishes proper diplomatic relationships with Ninjago and begs for another chance with Cole.

And that's where it ends 😏 There's tons of details too, but if I kept talking about it I'd never stop!

After reading @fires-of-ninjago ‘s amazing oneshot drabble about the Sumo Kai AU, I just had to design what Garmadon looks like in the AU

While he was still bitten by the devourer, the purification rituals associated with sumo wrestling managed to keep the venom from spreading fully. However he must be sure to do them at least twice a day in order to keep the evil dormant, thus he’s only partially transformed

Garms here is a Yokozuna, the highest rank a rikishi can obtain. In his youth he dedicated his time to training women in secrecy, as they were forbidden from entering the ring. He had a little help from a certain blacksmith shop, which was how he got to meet Kai

Inter-dimensional! Cole au

Au where Cole (both show and movie) are inter-dimensional beings who can travel across different universes. They don't know why, all that know is that they have this power. Whenever they leave Ninjago and go into another universe, time stops in Ninjago because the story can't move on without them bc they're main characters. They've both met multiple times and been across all different universes outside their own.

S! Cole is alot more serious about this power than M! Cole is. He doesn't leave Ninjago unless he absolutely has to. M! Cole honestly doesn't give a fuck and uses it a lot more than S! Cole does.

Ofc no one really knows about their power. S! Cole made M! Cole swear to secrecy. They don't exactly know the effects of what universe-hopping does, and S! Cole doesn't want to take any chances.

got no notes on my post asking if you wanted to see my shitty ocs but FUCK YOU I’m making this post anyway because I’m a desperate child lol

gonna keep some things... mysterious? Like I’m planning on writing some fics based around them and it kinda will have to be in an au verse

I only have very vague memories of the show past episodes that I rewatch from time to time so yeah

Anyways, let’s get started!

The Premise

Basically, these people called ‘Riftmakers’ exist

They can open rifts between the Sixteen Realms and some of the more powerful ones can basically fuck up reality

They have a council that dictates what Riftmakers can and can’t do so that Ordinary People aren’t hurt

It’s,,, pretty corrupt but it’s also the only thing stopping all Sixteen Realms from crumbling into anarchy so it’s very important that it isn’t destroyed

Not many people know of the Riftmakers existence, those that do are sworn to secrecy

OC 1: Magnus

He’s a 22 yr old stinky bastard man + the main villain

Riftmaker

You know how I said it’s Very Important that the council isn’t destroyed?

He wants to destroy it.

Also he hates all non-Riftmakers, he sees them as a lower class (like the prejudice towards muggles in Harry Potter lol)

Like,,,, 6’ 6”,,, he’s a giant

Pale skin, black hair, grey eyes (all Riftmakers have grey eyes)

Literally dresses so formally he constantly looks like he’s going to a funeral

Was living with his family in a different dimension until 3 years ago when he just,,, left

His family is important don’t worry

Yeah that’s pretty much all I got ok let’s move on to:

OC 2: Sophie

Ladies and gentlemen and non-binary dudes, we have our protagonist

She’s 16 and she’s terrible

Falls to pieces in the precense of a pretty girl but then again who wouldn’t

I mean my dude I am a self-proclaimed asexual aromantic but I still panic when a pretty girl appears

And I mean all girls are pretty so

Anyway

she’s Magnus’ younger sister I told you the family would be important

She and her family have been hunting Magnus ever since he left to become the Biggest Dickhead To Have Ever Dickheaded (those are literally her words)

Her family consists of her mother Jordana, her step-father Chris, her sister Anna (15) and her brother Kato (12)

Hates Magnus with a passion (she doesn’t she just really misses him and wants him to be good again)

Really into body mods she has so many ear piercings it’s unreal

Dark skin, long wavy black hair, very dark green eyes

6’4” she’s a tol

OC 3: Tristen Joseph

Lloyd: *Sighs and shifts to human form* There. Happy? Wu: Lloyd, you have to be careful, especially in the city.

Sensei Garmadon: Yes, and it started up with the other Elementals too. And I see that your generation has inherited it, especially you.

Zane: Come on, we can see in the dark!

Jay: What I'm worried about is the POLICE ARE TRYING TO SEND US TO AN ORPHANAGE BECAUSE THEY THINK WE’RE A BUNCH OF ORPHAN STREET KIDS.

Nya: That isn’t too far from the truth, though.

Cole: How did we end up on top of a moving train again?

Zane: It seemed like the quickest way to get to the other side of the city without being seen.

Kai: Plus, it's a great view from up here!

Kai: Jay, your last plan involved us getting stuck in a tree for three hours.

Jay: But we got away, didn't we?

Lloyd: Why do I always have to be the distraction?

Cole: Because you're the youngest and most innocent-looking.

Lloyd: Why do we always end up in these crazy situations?

Cole: Because we're the ninja, Lloyd. It's practically in the job description.If being a ninja has a job description….

Kai: Yeah, but I don't remember "evading the police while riding a stolen rickshaw" being listed anywhere.
