you ever think about how MK never gets a chance to really define himself?

#had this thought while driving home #like he barely even gets any chance to place some identity other than monkie kid and delivery boy bc he always gets interrupted #every villain has their own preconceived notion on who and what he is #Demon Bull family saw him as a ‘little thief’ and ‘noodle boy’ #Spider Queen called him junior or something???? #Macky even told MK that he is nothing w/o the staff. He also projected a lot of his anger with swk to MK bc he saw a lot of similarities #LBD did one better and shattered his own self worth by feeding into his insecurities and trying to mold him into her pawn (champion? will w #ever know what she wanted and why she wanted Mac to capture mk and swk???? what was their role that she wanted them to play???) #Azure even tries to assert his own perceptions on MK in the special and oh boy how he snaps back (🥰 so satisfying) #‘Oh there’s nothing mindless about me…friend’ <- one of the rare times MK puts his foot down when other try to assume what he is #I betchu s5 will focus on MK grappling with his identity bc we laid some foundations he is ok with acknowledging it #But actually processing what this meant for him? I have a guess that he wants to avoid that #And the ironic part is that swk (if he knew which I think so) is now the one trying to get MK to communicate his thoughts and feelings #It’s swk who warned MK about the dangers of hiding or avoiding huge issues like having a giant & powerful monkey form #bc swk has spent like the past 3 seasons doing the opposite of what he’s preaching to MK at the special (this is why i love him he’s trying #lmk #lego monkie kid #lmk mk #lmk qi xiaotian #qi xiaotian

I can't think of many things that feel like they were made for me specifically, but if there is something that feels like that, it's definitely that scene in His Dark Materials where the little girl spies Marisa Coulter tending to a comatose Lyra

I only liked Eddis first time around but I like ‘em all equally this time.

#the thing that made me like Attolia was Eddis talking about how she (Attolia) got hurt by Eddis not taking her advice #at the start of eddis taking the throne #makes her human to me. not just a competent ice queen and not just a competent ice queen with a tragic back story. #she’s just —human. Like everyone else. also the Attolia parts of the story make way more sense to me now narratively speaking #me the first time around: and why is this bitch breaking all her dishes? (lolllll sorry) #me this time: oh okay #LOVE Gen. He’s an icon. and love to see him pulling her in despite herself #and Eddis remains Distinct and human and likable to me! though this time the flaws are clearer. it’s a very balanced character trio #anyway do I fully understand the politics? no but I have a better grasp lol and more patience #I’m sorry for the live-blogging and overexplaining etc. #just talking to myself #queen’s thief

i’m actually really nervous about twow bc i feel like every series i made my whole personality from the ages of 10-17 ended really badly EXCEPT probably farscape and ummmm well…the disney series’ aksksj hsm3 and descendants 3 written by children’s media icon and genuinely amazing director, screenwriter, & choreographer kenny ortega both had really solid endings that fit the characters & themes & also there wasn’t a noticeable decrease in quality of writing. is it unserious to compare grrm to cassie clare, rick riordan, megan whalen turner, or the hacks who wrote once upon a time? absolutely. am i gonna stress regardless? also yes.

we (people who are not and never have been Harry Potter fans) watched Secrets of Dumbledore because we had HBO open anyway and also Mads Mikklesen, and guys, it's so fucking funny. please put down the rowling is a terrible person angle for just a second so I can complain about fresh new things in addition to all else. it's the friendly neighborhood chinatown episode of the harry potter franchise. they're in bhutan but also like Not Really. there's like, NO Asian wizards apparently. there is One Lone Asian Man running for whatever form of wizardly political office is plot critical, and HE GETS ZERO SPEAKING LINES. ZERO. there is One Lone Latina or Possibly Spanish from Spain character. she gets a plot critical moment and I believe one (1) speaking line. possibly two (2) lines, both entirely generic polite things, so short and bland I can't even remember.

we (a latina and an Asian man) (who have never been harry potter fans) (who haven't read the books and will never read the books) (and who have collectively seen maybe 2 movies in the franchise) are just there like

Further notes on LOTR: Andy Serkis is great but I thought his Hobbit was just fine, not remarkable. A little disappointing. Phil Dragash never disappoints and I truly think his audiobooks are the ultimate way to experience the trilogy (provided one likes the Peter Jackson movies).

I adored Persuasion #the last two Austens I’ve read (Mansfield Park and Persuasion) I just loved immediately and I didn’t even have to try #unlike the previous Austen novels I read which took a little more for me to get into them #I don’t know if it’s just that I’m a more experienced/mature/whatever reader now or if Persuasion and MP were just more my thing #Lastly Something Fresh was genuinely hilarious and an absolute delight #another good year for reading! #I think I gotta stop reading Star Wars novels though they’re not very good

There’s a thumping sound overhead. Cress is practiced enough now to know that the hand Thorne puts on her shoulder is not a comfort, but a warning. They gather weapons and head to the upper deck, prepared for whoever it is that’s come to kidnap them this time—

“Oh!” She says, delighted, and lowers the gun immediately. “It’s just Mr. Brekker.”

“Just—“ Thorne makes a choking sort of noise, and does not lower his pistol. “Cress, is this where you got the job you’ve been out on?”

“Yes!”

“Cress.” He sounds pained. “‘Just’ Mr. Brekker is a contradiction. And you are never going out alone again. Especially not in Ketterdam.”

“Okay,” She agrees, easily, because that only means more time with Thorne. “Did you need something, Mr. Brekker? It’s very late.” Thorne makes that noise in his throat again, but it sounds more exasperated, this time.
