Miss Grand Nigeria National Costume - OYA-ALA
The warrior goddess costume is inspired by the strength and spirituality that we see and feel in two of our greatest female deity - OYA and ALA.
OYA, also known as oya-Iyansan-an, the mother of nine-- from the southwestern states of Nigeria. OYA is the goddess of weather, intuition, psychic abilities, clairvoyance and reincarnation. She is also said to be the guardian of the realm between life and death, her favourite colour is the rainbow -- denoting peace.
ALA: also known Odinala. She is the earth mother goddess of morality, fertility and creativity in the culture of the southeastern people of Nigeria knowns as Odinani. She's considered the highest deity in Odinani, and the name "ALA" translates to "ground" which indicates her powers over the earth.
The ensemble is a coalescence of OYA and ALA, which is a combo of different colors of leather, feathers, mesmerising beads, detailed mermaid inspired and arranged feathers on the headgear, wrist bands, ankle band, and thigh band.
The hand is embelished with cowries, feathers, beads and accessorized short asymmetrical front with flowing trail leather back skirt. from Nigeria we present to you; OYA-ALA.

West African Vodun - Wikipedia
The syncretism of Vodun and Christianity was created by connecting the traditional West African Vodun and Christianity in Benin.[15] Adherents are mainly found in Benin, Togo and Nigeria.[16] Syncretism in the religious domain is the merging of two or more originally distinct religious traditions.[17] Similar syncretic religions are also found in the surrounding countries,[18] where it is a connection between the Yoruba religion and Christianity,[19] the Odinala religion and Christianity, the Bori religion and Islam, or the Bwiti religion and Christianity.[20]
In Benin, in addition to the followers of syncretism, there is a large group of people who profess Vodun and Christianity without mixing.[15] This is a – common in Africa – multiple religious belonging.[18] Various syncretisms and eclecticisms are common in West Africa.[21] In addition to Christian services (mostly, but not exclusively, in Benin), believers also visit Vodun initiates, use traditional household protection fetishes and personal protective gris-gris amulets. They cultivate respect for deceased ancestors and communicate with the spirit world with the help of a Vodun priest (vodunon).[15]
The syncretism of Vodun and Christianity arose just like Vodun itself in Benin,[15] but similar syncretisms also arose overseas, when Vodun reached the Caribbean together with slaves, where its syncretism with Catholic Christianity gave rise to Caribbean Voodoo similar to Brazilian Candomble and Cuban Santería.[22][15]

The World. Art by Taylor Hultquist-Todd, from Myths & Legends: An Illustrated Tarot.
Ala is the Igbo deity of fertility, morality, creativity, and of course - the world. Unfortunately, due to colonization and the slave trade, the religion of Odinala has been almost decimated. Aspects of their religious rites still exist from North Carolina to the Caribbean - the Igbo culture itself is still celebrated in southeastern Nigeria, a continually growing mix of ancient and modern traditions.

Chi Explained - Igbo Cosmology
Subscribe if you want in-depth, weekly videos on Igbo spirituality, cosmology and culture (Odinala/Odinani). In this video I explain the meaning of 'Chi' in Igbo Culture.  The Chi in Igbo cosmology has been referred to as the 'personal God' 'God within' and 'God' it's self. In this video I explain the Chi as a concept that incorporates elements of these three definitions, but stands alone as a unique understanding of self in Igbo cosmology.

How a Nigerian scheme forged in war creates billionaires
Tumblr media
“The Peoples Club was a social-cum-economic movement…[that] designed an economic template of how the Igbo could move out of the ruins of the war and began a new movement of survival,” says Benedict Okoro, founder of the Odinala Cultural Heritage Foundation. “That is the genesis of the Igba Boi in Igbo cosmology.”

The right to bear arms
The right to bear arms
By Obi Nwakanma
Let me start from the get-go, and state that I am by conviction, a pacifist. As a revert to Odinala-Igbo, I understand that the cornerstone of Igbo religion and spiritual practices is “udo” – peace; a sense of the harmony of things in all nature and human relations. That is the central philosophy of Odinala – peace to all men, peace to all things; peace in our endeavors; peace…
