Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
How much wood can a woodpecker peck when a woodpecker pecks wood? The answer: quite a lot! Woodpeckers are able to peck a single spot up to 20 times per second. What's more, each peck has a g-force of about 1,200-1,400 g; the equivalent of going from 26,000 mph (41,800 kph) to a complete stop in a single second.
(An acorn woodpecker (Melanerpes formicivorus) by Gavin Emmons; you can read more about acorn woodpeckers here!)
