Isla Lavellan

I have been exceedingly lucky to have Isla brought to life so beautifully by these amazing artists. From the top down:

1. Her favourite thing to do when she has free time?

Isla is a ruminator. When she’s not busy with “chores,” like hunting for food stores, or general work for the Inquisition, she’s walking, swimming, dancing, singing, or just sitting wherever the music of her mind takes her.

She loves spending time with her friends. She spends hours playing cards with Varric and Blackwall, and drinking with Sera and Bull. Isla and Dorian will often just sit and read together, or if they’re tired of reading, chatting happily wherever they find each other. She practices melee combat with Cassandra and Cullen to hone her skills, laughing always. Vivienne likes to braid her hair and gossip tamely, and they discuss the circle and other political tidbits. Her time spent with Josephine and Leliana is almost always work-related, but they enjoy themselves nonetheless. Cole finds her from time to time and they enjoy sitting in the sunshine, or the shade.

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget our favorite apostate hobo. Solas is deeply intrigued by her, and he often joins her while she treks through woods and mountains.

2. How did she get her name?

Isla was named by her father, an elven merchant who grew up in Antiva. She has vague memories of him visiting her when she was very young, but he all but disappeared and she hasn’t seen him since her 6th name day.  

Isla, “eye-la,” means Island. She was independent even as a baby, stoic and calm, and her father saw her as an island on her own.

While pretty, it’s not necessarily representative of her disposition. Independent she may be, but she always wished for real affection from her father. 

3. How would she react if there was an impromptu bout of mud wrestling at Skyhold?

Is the bout organized, and two people wrestle at a time? Or are all the hooligans of the Inquisition just playing in the mud?

Either way, she would win all of the wrestling one-on-one’s, and she would love the general play of a whole group thing but at the same time she would be concerned about people getting hurt. Because of this concern, she asks Solas to stand by to assist with any injuries. He might scoff at first, but of course he can’t say no to her and it is a logical request. Plus then he gets to watch her roll around in the mud and he wont admit it but he finds it attractive in a Dalish sort of way. 

4. Would she rather travel or stay at home?

Isla has always been a nomad. She loves traveling and seeing the world. To her, home is where she hangs her scarf.

1. your oldest oc

she was kind of a joint oc i made with my friend at the time, her twin sister (Luu) was my friend’s oc! She was a witch who studied magic at a magic school. I was really interested in the duality of the human condition and the binary opposition between good and evil, a concept that i would later reuse for later ocs but it’s kinda interesting how long ago the root stems from?

this oc was clearly strongly inspired by the san-x characters Ruu & Suu, even their names were directly lifted from them!

2. your newest oc

This is Sagittarius! Her design is still a work in progress. She’s a child assassin who has lived a very hard life.

3. Favourite oc

I’ve mentioned this many times before but Kizumi is my favourite oc! I don’t really have any good new pics of her but here’s a wip from my webcomic i’m working on.

4. Any villain ocs?

This is Madeleine! This is an absolutely ancient wip i never finished from years ago. Her and her twin sister are rehashes of that first oc I mentioned earlier. She’s a villain but i wouldn’t necessarily say she’s absolutely evil.

5. Main reason for making ocs. Making ocs is really great as a creative outlet! I remember reading once that artists make a lot of ocs to keep them company so they won’t be lonely and i think that is a pretty good explanation. also creating ocs is a really empowering experience, you are a like a god- you can create entire worlds out of your mind how cool is that?

6. describe your character creation process. I feel like i may be more absent from the creative process than other people may be. i don’t exactly feel like i consciously make a lot of decisions about a characters design, more like i see the image of them in my head perfect and intact and i just transfer onto the page. There are some exceptions but for the most part my characters don’t really change much from this initial image i see in my mind’s eye. kind of feels like my characters create themselves? as for the personality and backstory part that comes naturally after their design is established

7. fave oc ship?

this is ein and luca, they make a pretty good couple i think

8. do u ship ur ocs with someone else’s ocs? my ocs are really personal to me so i’m not about that

9. weirdest oc.

i have some really weird ocs from my middle school days. twinkle is a unicorn with a horn that is a corn

10. favourite oc design.

i’m not sure i’ll ever make a design containing more of my favourite things than beverly

11. would you consider yourself nice to your ocs? Compared to other people yes.

None of them are at their current points in the story but i think lareina would probably be the first to get to that point

🕸 1. Who’s the oldest character of yours that you still use?

Though she may not get drawn super frequently, I’m going to have to say Ruu.  I believe she’s 15 years old now.  Since she’s been a self insert SW oc that’s doubled as a fursona of sorts, she’s managed to hang around.

🎨 6. When creating a character, do you come up with the visual concept or the written concept first?

Going to say visual?  Though I will use things like random animal generators for creature ideas, so that might count as written? That’s still based on the appearance though, so I guess we’ll say visual for sure.

🏆 19. What’s more important to you: visual design, unique personality, a trendy character aesthetic, etc? If you’re not sure, then what’s the first thing you usually nail down in a character?

I was going to write more on the previous question, but realized it probably fits here.  I almost always nail down a visual first, since I have a hard time coming up with personalities and stories for my designs.  I would really like to get better that, since I think it’d help me have something for them to do other than sit around and look pretty.

Valentine Fandom Ask Meme (Still Accepting!!!)

1. Your favourite non-canon ship?

I think I have as many if not more non-canonships than canon ones… I don’t know that I can pick just one favorite. 

Kotor isparticularly bad… Visas/F!Exile (post-game), Visas/Mira, Bao-Dur/The Exile,Revan/Canderous, and F!Revan/F!Exile (although I don’t like the dynamic of the canonF!Exile and M!Revan at all).

There’s also Sabine/Leia, Evaan/Leia, Maze/Zey, Jilka/Ruu, gonna pre-preemptively call Rey/Finn/Poe bc as much progress as Disney’s making I don’t see polyamory making it into a big-budget film like the new trilogy anytime soon, Cassandra/f!Inquisitor, f!Hawke/f!Inquisitor, f!Hawke/Aveline,  Artemis/Aqualad in Young Justice....Etain/Mereel and Etain with some OCs... and maybe Etain/Callista, though those are all polyamorous or AU.

Like seriously though, how can you make me choose?

3. What is the rarest rare pair (that you ship)?

I don’t think I’ve ever seenfic for either F!Exile/F!Revan at all, and even though it’s not a fluffy shipor a ship I think lasts for their whole arcs, I like it and I’m always sad Ican’t find it.

Also, I’m really, really partialto Jilka/Ruu, which I’ve never seen or heard of anywhere I didn’t bring it upfirst. (And even I haven’t published anything for it, though I promise I’mstill writing that prompt…)

19. Is there a ship the fandom has ruined for you?

A lot of BioWare pairings,honestly. Alistair/Cousland is a pretty huge one. Like I was neutral to it andthere are a handful of writers that managed to make it different enough (andwrite the flaws and traumas involved well and honestly enough to be compelling)but after a while I got to the point where I never wanted to see King and QueenAlistair and Cousland ever ever again.

22. Is there a ship you’ll never admit you have?

Not exactly? But I have one or two that I’mnot exactly hiding that I ship (I’ve admitted them here, mostly in this kind of meme or character memes) but I tend not tobring up a whole lot just to avoid awkwardness if people don’t also ship them.

I’m trying to come up with a new nickname for Garou. I kinda just tended to either use his name or something like Rou or Ruu, but well, he and Neri went a bit unimaginative when naming their child and now Rruu is a thing. Of course they could both be Ruu’s and that does happen a lot on real life, but is it really necessary to be that realistic?

So anyways, Gar is out the door immediately, too many weird Gary’s with that nickname (kinda like I don’t want my non-fr OC Gabriel to be called Gabe, EVER, bc reasons) Then there’s Gru, but... as nice as the friendly criminal mastermind is, let’s not go there, ok?

He’s a shapeshifter so I thought Grif might be an option. There are Hippogriffs and such in the world that he could have shapeshifted into. I think Grif is a good contender in general but somehow just doesn’t spark anything in me.

And lastly something not phonetically derived from his name, Wolf or Wolfy. Because the name Garou and the whole shapeshifting thing ofc comes from loup-garou, werewolf. And he looks like he would be right at home at Boreal Woods coli venue anyways.

Idk, the old man is important to me but for some reason a nickname hasn’t emerged yet and all these would feel a bit artificial, even the ones I kinda like. It might be because I haven’t yet developed Neria enough, since she would be the person #1 to use any kind of nicknames for the tunderpuff. So... maybe I should work on her to find out what’s inside her head?
