George Washington - America’s first recorded wrestling champion 💪
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Washington was an elite athlete of his day.
He excelled in archery, swimming, horseback riding, and sword fighting.
He was even considered a bit of a pool shark.
But George was also a master of wrestling, a sport he was introduced to during his days at the Rev. James Maury’s Academy in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
He learned an old Irish style known as “collar and elbow” wrestling which included throws, pins, and submissions.
At the age of 18, Washington organized what was believed to be a colony wide wrestling tournament.
He went undefeated and won the title, which he held for many years.
George wrestled through much of his youth and is not recorded to ever lose an official match.
He was known for his brute strength and athletic ability.
At the age of 47, serving as the Continental Army Commander, he wrestled and defeated seven consecutive competitors from the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia.
Ten years later, in 1789, Washington was unanimously elected as America’s first President.

Ive been reading a lot of african history lately (mostly late-colonial and early-postcolonial stuff about politics, conflicts, and social movements) and this came up in my amazon.
Like i get that it's an important topic to have records of (especially from an author involved in the events) and that this is a self-published thing but
Did this guy literally have no one with any taste around to critique his font choice?

What do you think about the UKs new Ranger Regiment? I keep seeing people clowning on it on the internet for some reason.
The British Army tries to invent an equivalent of the 75th Ranger Regiment every few years in the same way that the Home Office tries to invent a 'British FBI'. Neither of these are inherently bad ideas - in fact, I think just the opposite - but they're always overcome and dragged down by the unbearable shitness of being British. Nothing interesting or new is allowed to happen in this country
Oh also they nicked the cap badge of the Rhodesian Selous Scouts and panicked when people noticed

SNAPSHOT IN HISTORY: THE KILLING OF ALICK NKHATA BY SELOUS SCOUTS
SNAPSHOT IN HISTORY: THE KILLING OF ALICK NKHATA BY SELOUS SCOUTS ON October 19, 1978, Selous Scouts (a Special Forces Unit of the Rhodesian Army) flew into Zambia using helicopters marked “Rhodesia Air Force” at very low altitudes avoiding Zambian radar. The main target of the Rhodesian raid was Mkushi camp where Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) was training its guerrillas. ZIPRA…

The Rhodesian Bush War. It was a ferocious guerrilla warfare campaign between the regular and elite units of the Rhodesian Army doing battle against Communist-backed terrorist groups in the valleys, jungles and bush country of Rhodesia, Mozambique and Zambia. Warrant Officer Dennis Croukamp fought in the conflict from its beginnings in the 1960s to the very end in 1979, and his combat memoir is an extraordinary chronicle of that bitter struggle from inside some of the most highly regarded elite combat units to ever take the field. In The Bush War in Rhodesia, Croukamp chronicles his eventful service with the Rhodesian Regular Army, the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI) and the Selous Scouts Reconnaisance Troop as he took part in cross-border reconnaissance operations, HALO jumps behind enemy lines, urban ops in the townships of Salisbury, raids, ambushes, demolition missions, prisoner snatches and more. And through it all, Croukamp brought along a camera, providing a remarkable visual documentation of this little-known war. This searingly honest, action-packed memoir is sure to become a classic, ground-level account of the bloody "bush wars" of Africa.

"Advocates of 'regenerative ranching' methods claim they’re slashing the carbon footprint of the ranching industry — but they’re actually propping up a scam that Big Ag is bankrolling.
It was 1965. Historians would later call it the Rhodesian Bush War, but back then it was just tracking. Allan Savory wiped the sweat from his forehead, catching a bead of black dye before it hit his eyes. Four Zimbabwean independence fighters had shot up a police station, and Ian Smith’s rogue colonial government had tasked Savory’s Tracker Combat Unit with finding them. In his war memoir, Savory follows trail signs along the banks of the Zambezi, glimpses a camouflage jacket through the foliage, and kills them all.
Half a century later, Allan Savory stepped into the lights on a stage in Vancouver. He told the TED Talk audience that he had come to regret ordering the deaths of forty thousand elephants during his time as a Rhodesian wildlife officer. He didn’t mention his central role in developing the tracking technique of the Selous Scouts, who massacred thousands of civilians during the war, using everything from machine guns to anthrax. That was all beside the point. He was there to tell a story about how cattle farming could save the world from climate change. The world believed him."
