the handmaid’s tale s3ep6 thoughts
under the cut because spoilers
honestly...not a lot of thoughts because this episode was hella boring
and confirmed my fears for the show
the last episode was the only “good” episode of this season don’t @ me
idk what the show is trying to do with commander lawrence. i saw a behind the scenes thing where the producers talked about how the dynamic between lawrence and june is so awesome and interesting and i dont see it. bradley whitford is a great actor but the show is out of ideas so they are trying to keep as many characters as possible ambiguous and its dumb
the vibe in d.c. was so creepy
wow i missed rita
fred is in his ~element~ in d.c. that smug bastard
it’s interesting that the d.c. wife went by her first name (that im blanking on) and not mrs. __________. It seems like even though they are higher up they are much more chill as a couple (probs because the husband is GAYY)
the stapled mouths... chills
if aunt lydia is disgusted you know its bad
mmmm nick how i’ve missed you
june and nick’s secret smiles and touches... finally some good fucking content
fred is so INSECURE about nick lolol. He was #shook to see him and then his whole confident commander vibe went away because he knows nick is holly’s dad therefore hypothetically outranking him. When he called nick “son” I almost burst out laughing
okay im sry but the swiss were not trustworthy at all. As soon as june hinted about nick they immediately perked up and were the ones who asked if it was nick who she was talking about. they were there to collect info about gilead and that is all. they weren’t there to actually help the situation. I thought that was plain as day the way the scene was presented. The music, their body language and how they menacingly leaned forward....
nick was looking to get some lolol and june was like no baby please focus on the issue at hand
nick’s reaction when june told him about the deal pretty much confirms what i thought. he has been behind the scenes in the government and knows what goes on. he knows they aren’t actually there to help holly, or june, or him. he point blank says they don’t give a fuck about them. i think max did a great job conveying that he wanted to please june and be there for his daughter, even though he knew the risk and that ultimately nothing would be done
lol dat commander is gay for fred
the wife talking about working at a law practice just made me think of john mulaney going “you have your law practice and I have these fucking markers” in one of his specials
im not sure how the conversation with nick and the swiss went down... he obviously showed up to the meeting. I also think it’s pretty clear the swiss knew who he was so they probably already knew he was a “war criminal.” but I don’t know if he gave them info and then they were like “thanks for all of that but we can’t trust you because youre a war criminal” or if they just didnt let him talk at all. who knows
showing him walking in all black through the soldiers was hot af and it was a poor attempt by the show to try and paint him as a villain.
also im sorry but what did june expect?? i always assumed it was implied nick had at least fought a little bit like in season 2 when he literally ASKED to be sent to the front.
This revelation really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. Nick still loves june, he still loves holly, he showed up to the meeting despite his past and his reservations, he still has on a mask when dealing with gilead stuff. It doesn’t excuse his complicity when gilead started, but i think it’s pretty clear he isn’t a gilead believer
I also wonder if serena exaggerated how involved he was because if he was that important in the war wouldn’t he have been made a commander? Like if he was ~that~ impressive of a soldier he would have been promoted and not been a low-ranking driver for so many years. Or that’s just an inconsistency with writing (lets face it it’s probably that)
im telling you the show is out of ideas and so instead of moving the plot forward to anything they are just having characters act ambiguous or backslide for the sake of trying to keep viewers on their toes when really we’re just annoyed with the inconsistency
the scene with aunt lydia... i mean give ann dowd all the awards as always. the scene was sweet and weird at the same time. and I think it’s obvious june and janine are aunt lydia’s “favorite” handmaids. I don’t think this was really out of character for aunt lydia, but I don’t think it’s growth either. It’s always been pretty clear that aunt lydia is sadistic but its because she is truly trying to redeem/save the girls. she “loves” them in a fucked up way, but she truly believes she is helping.
unlike serena who loves nothing and is cold and empty. ive always said that fred is a villain but hes just dumb and not really worth anyone’s time, aunt lydia is delusional but at least believes in what she is doing, and serena is the worst of all because she is smart enough to know that what she is doing is wrong and she does it anyway.
i LOVED june’s speech to serena like finally. everything she said to her was 100% accurate
can we please have some waterford-less episodes im sick of seeing them
the music that played while june cried by the lincoln memorial was BEAUtiful also
like damn
where will this show go next?? who knows but i dont really care because it’s boring

Ok so overall once again solid ep, the villain was the proper evil villain we had so far and it was very exciting, so the overall plot was alright, but the best thing about the ep were the characters. We got to know Graham, Ryan and Yaz a bit more, how they react to certain things and a bit of background knowledge on Yaz, which was great, but this episode focused a lot on the doctor which was needed and i loved it. It didnt turn out to be what i wanted it to be (the doc being called out on her hypocricy) but still showed nicely what she believes in (not the devil). It couldve been a bit more exciting and the resolution was a bit unspectacular...
Overall rating: 9 / 13

S3 E9 - Extraordinary Merry Christmas
THE GOOD
- Sue’s talk with Kurt, Blaine and Artie is hilarious
- “best friend and holiday roommate”
....and they were roommates
- that star gift was way too cute
she doesn’t deserve him
THE BAD
- screw you, Rachel, Rory’s song was beautiful
- i wanna punch Rachel in this episode omg
aren’t you Jewish? why are you being this obnoxious about Christmas?
- POV you’re a homeless child at a shelter on christmas. a bunch of high schoolers show up late to serve you dinner and instead they sing a song about how much worse it is in Africa.
THE MUSICAL
- All I Want for Christmas is You (10/10)
this is the perfect song for Mercedes!!! i love it!!
- Blue Christmas (10/10)
this was so beautiful. i love Rory so much. he is so cute and he did such an amazing job with this song!!
- River (5/10)
Artie was right. this was super depressing and not very good.
- Extraordinary Merry Christmas (7/10)
it’s fine. Rachel’s attitude in this episode makes it worse. for an original song it’s pretty good.
- Let it Snow (10/10)
this is one of the gayest numbers in this show. the whole vibe just screams gay and i love it!!!
- My Favorite Things (10/10)
i love this number. it’s very cute. i love the black and white 1950s vibes of the christmas special.
- Santa Claus is Coming to Town (10/10)
having a rock christmas song was a nice change and broke up all the 1950s very well.
- Christmas Wrapping (10/10)
GAYY!!! this was also very gay. this whole christmas special part of the episode is so GAYYY!! (and i love it!!!)
- Do They Know it’s Christmas? (5/10)
ah yes the white savior christmas anthem. perfect song to sing a homeless shelter. (i know it’s not their fault this song sucks, but like read the room)

⚠️Warning ⚠️ this post will include "Sherlock" season four spoilers. It will also be personal. So if you don't want to hear either of those things, pay no attention. Alright, so I just watched episode three of s4, "The Final Problem", and I am extremely let down, angry, hurt, and disappointed. I started watching Sherlock around two or three years ago when I was severely depressed to the point where I was homeschooled because public school was too difficult. At this time I found this damn show. In this show I saw myself in Sherlock. Not the sociopath part of course, but the severely depressed man. He was so alone, and so sad he cut himself off from emotion. But it was undeniable that he was in love with John Watson, and John Watson was in love with him. I really can't emphasize how bad this point in my life was, but seeing the love between John and Sherlock gave me something to hold on to. It gave me hope that sad as I was I could find love and happiness. Not to mention, having such a significant gay couple would be such great representation for all of us struggling with our orientation identity. Having been this invested in this show with ALL THE UNDENIABLE EVIDENCE of a real relationship, for it to just, not happen, it hurts. The fan base is so extremely intelligent. Those of us who ship Johnlock have picked up on so many clues, deciphered so many hints, researched so many sources, all pointing to the idea that John and Sherlock having a relationship was end game. I'm sure I'm rambling, and this all sounds stupid snd cheesy, but it wasn't just a show. It was a community of people who came together over the years seeing ourselves in these sad men, and finding hope in love. Thus all being said, I am not convinced this is the end. There is SO much evidence pointing to Johnlock, that we were either being teased cruelly- or it's not the end. The entire episode felt rushed and fake. This show gas always run on logic, and there are far too many loose ends for this to be "it". Surviving a drone by jumping out a window without a scratch? Mind control? Fake plane? Fourth sibling introduced in the last posible moment? All so surreal. I would not be surprised if in a few years we get a "Miss me?", and pick up where we left off. If there is no Johnlock, then this honestly wasn't that good of a show. We the fan base, deciphered the obvious. However I hold strong that this is not the end. When has this show ever been easy on us? The writers said from the beginning that they lie and deceive us to throw us off the trail. They won't give us the ending that easily, especially once more of us started suspecting it. "There's something comforting in 3, people stop looking". I'm ready for episode four. The quote from Oscar Wilde (who's gayy), "The truth is rarely pure and never simple", stood out in this episode. Um? Gay? Also the writers said "groundbreaking", this was nothing. It was a shit episode- nothing made sense. OH! And the portrait of John Locke crying blood?? This show has always been intentional, that was NOT a mistake. So either the writers screwed us over and queerbaited us, got scared of following through with their true intentions, or there is more to come. Whatever happens, I firmly believe John and Sherlock are in love, and are endgame. ❤️
