thinking about how the three of the biggest relationships in bucks life are pretty significantly tied to helicopters/helicopter crashes,,, (partially inspired by this post by @maygrcnt)

taylor kelly: met her when her news helicopter crash. not the first person he seriously dated but definitely is the most serious romantic relationship he had yknow. can’t forget the whole couch metaphor arc.

eddie: i mean it’s pretty self explanatory but eddie’s helicopter crash when he was in the army caused him to be discharged and forced to be reliant on his family again, which is what made him move to la, where, of course, he met buck. they’re literally thee most important person in each others lives. they’re besties. coparents (when the only help eddie’s had as a coparent is shannon, who left (no hate to her it’s complicated shit and she did die but still she did), and his parents, who were controlling and not what either of them needed and also just generally really shitty to eddie at the time (ESPECIALLY re his parenting). and then buck comes along and like within a year he’s like i trust you with my life and my son and my sons life! after everything!! and puts buck as chris’ legal guardian in his will—) n e ways yeah that but also eddie’s ptsd related to the whole helicopter crash incident was super significant later in their relationship too bc eddie was at his lowest point (a place he’d been before but back then, his wife left him and his parents actively made everything worse instead of helping) and buck just like. steps in WITH eddie and gives him what he needs and like takes care of eddie and chris in they way they both need instead of forcing them into what he thinks they need like eddie’s parents did. yeah. and eddie actually did some healing then unlike the last time. so eddie is easily the most important and serious and intimate (like platonically but also Not) relationship buck has ever had, more so than any of bucks gfs.

and then tommy comes around!!! a fuckin helicopter pilot. he and buck first meet not necessarily in a helicopter crash but in a helicopter. in an emergency situation. and they draw SO MANY parallels between tommy and eddie and taylor (he and eddie have a lot in common like with the whole army and martial arts stuff and they get really close really fast and then BUCK HIMSELF drawing the taylor parallels. literally biting at my enclosure.) and wow! look at that! they kiss (and soon start a relationship) and tommy is literally not only the first man buck has ever kissed, but also the catalyst for buck realizing he’s bi. (or, at least, that those feelings bucks had for men in the past (cough cough eddie) are like mushy romantic/sexual/Very Not Platonic things.) literally even if they just kissed that once and had no relationship past that it’s still a massively impactful (non)relationship for buck!!!

and somehow. somehow the most important relationships in bucks life are all connected to helicopter crashes/emergencies. and they’re only characters who have such big connections to said helicopter crashes/emergencies. and they all have relationships that are incredibly important and impactful to buck. this is literally canon.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

Lots of action starting from jumping, i get that its necessary but some of it seems or feeld too long and drawn out.

I love Sam's winged captain America suit....mostly, that chin strap to ear cover thing looks weird to me outside of the comic books.

Does it even have a function? 🤨🤨🤨

Disney/Marvel is smart for during these flying and action scenes keeping the camera moving constantly because the eyes are less likely to pick up on what is real.

Overall thoughts: First i will start with my thoughts on the finale the first half with all the action was just okay in my opinion. I did not have many expectations high or low, but it was lacking something in all the action. Something that most of the other fight scenes had and have had in the MCU. I don't know what that spark is though (could be neat being tired) but it still felt underwhelming. Even Sam's speech was not the heroic candor or bold speech i expected. His talk with Isaiah was better imo. The second half of this episode really stood out for me though and had some very touching moments. Overall for the season, I really liked this show more than I thought I would and I wonder if we will see a season 2 instead of a movie spin off. Honestly from what I've heard from others that might be better if Disney/Marvel is going the route of deep dive with all of their characters. Bucky still has some things to work through but for now he is good and Sam has things to do as Cap so idk how much they would be able to tie together to make a season 2. I would be up for watching it though, really love the dynamic of these two on and off screen.

Is this unpopular opinion? I understand where Taylor is coming from. Does it feel mean to be called needy? OH, yes, yes it does. No one wants to be called that. If I were in Buck's shoes I'd feel absolutely taken aback, absolutely offended and downtrodden, but...there's some truth to what Taylor is saying. Apparently, Buck did't tell her about the double date scenario. He only said, "It's Buck, what are you doing Thursday night?"

She assumes she's coming over to Buck's place and that they'd be alone. Somehow, probably because she hoped to salvage the night she walks into the mess? Well, it's scripted, but still I'm thinking would you come in after you saw the fiasco? Or would you be like I'm out? Then you leave Buck to stew and talk about it later if he or you continue to call one another. Honestly. However, due to a script, Taylor goes through with it. I think there's a difference between how unnecessarily mean Veronica is being to what Taylor does after she storms out. Or what she says during. "Buck can't stop talking about it." (ie the disaster date that he had with Veronica and her being a neighbor sleeping with Albert his roommate). Not so sure about her offhanded "Buck's intimidated by strong women comment." Funny enough, that sounds like an ego stroke for Veronica; you see it's hard to defend someone who was UNNECESSARILY mean (also let's face it this is a room full of FOUR people who enjoy ego strokes, no joke).

Taylor however has a reason to be angry?

Sure, Buck had no idea of her feelings. He cannot be held accountable for that, but his actions made her angry. The point is, Buck did invite her over to keep up appearances. To show off the fact that hey yeah, I'm cool with this Veronica and Albert thing. We're good. I'm still trying to date, but coincidentally that date just goes and says, "Buck can't stop talking about it." Even if this wasn't done intentionally, because I don't think Buck sought out to do that; it happened that way and Taylor felt that way. He might've figured Taylor would be all right with it; turns out she's not. And I think there's an underlying thing there when she said "I could've really used a friend..." It's where she might be at in life; most likely due to the pandemic making her feel lonely and I think she's might've worked on some stories that put things into perspective. Speaking of which, I do think you can grow as a journalist? Correct? Perhaps it's always about being fame hungry, but it looks as if Taylor is trying to be a changed ethical journalist, who now knows that what she almost did to the Bobby and the 118 would've been disastrous (why tell Buck who you haven’t seen in a year maybe, “I see the people you work with. You have a lot of meaningful relationships there...” well there could be double meaning in that, but I do think it was way to show her having changed or realized that she was being emotionally manipulative and ‘immorally reprehensible’ to get her foot on the map. When the dust settled, she realized the documentary on the 118, was still her shoe in, even without the footage of Bobby- also this is me giving her HC backstory or MAKING ASSUMPTIONS)

 Coincidentally the very reason her and Buck went separate ways is because she was so adamant on using that footage. She was a different person trying to push forward her dream career. Like I said, the documentary still put her on the map though and now she’s a well known reporter/journalist: Taylor Kelly seen on TV and not just a voice in the sky, because hell she’s never getting in a helicopter anytime soon...

Things change. Opinions change, people grow and I think during this pandemic there's been enough heartbreaking stories for Taylor to realize I don't have to tell these stories in manipulative ways [ie calling Buck for a miracle during her recent story, her relying on that station who was her shoe in?] I don't know there seems to be something underlying to explain that Taylor is making that change, but while insinuating she's feeling kind of lonely just like Buck. However, Buck really goes about this the wrong way whether it was intentional or not? Have you ever put someone in an awkward situation? I'll be honest, I'm about as awkward as Buck and will think of an awkward situation for weeks, until someone calls out my awkwardness...do I feel like poop when someone calls me out? Always.

Taylor and Buck also have this past connection, whether it be based upon physical attraction, whether it is based upon the fact that there was manipulation on Taylor's part in the beginning (the mean part, but it can be forgiven much like Eddie screaming at Ana for the skateboard thing?), they have enough of an established connection for Taylor to call him out on bullshit. So what is she supposed to say suck it up and say what? It's my fault. I should've known this wasn't about actually dating me. This wasn't about a possible hook up, perhaps with something more, because hell the SIX HOUR call with the possible jumper/robber, wasn't a date? Anyway, that call, it was the most Buck and Taylor ever [emotionally] communicated and I think Taylor liked that change so it'd be why she said yes to coming over for dinner. Also, for Taylor and Buck it could be easy to fall back into, but they might have to still ease into it...

Maybe I'm on Taylor's side because I've been in a relationship where I was directly told I was the problem. I did the breaking up, three times (we were on and off) and it was me who would call the off, because frankly I was a little baby bisexual who was extremely afraid and probably still internally in the closet and I was also trying to be polyamorous. That's a whole load of shit. I needed to learn. I needed to educate myself and as my ex said, "you need to work on yourself." Which feels reminiscent of Taylor's, "if this is how you treat your friends then maybe Albert isn't the problem..." Does it sting when called out like that? Yes, it does, but in my case, let's say about 4-5 years later, I did a lot of work on accepting myself, educating myself and basically staying single and wondering if dating is worth it, or if I even want that right now...

It's crap, but what I want to say is I think I understand Taylor Kelly in this moment. Just all right, come at me, in a nice way if you can explain to me that Buck didn't make a mistake? That Buck isn't on some pedestal in which he can't make subconscious or conscious mistakes. You're thinking, wait! Don't you love Buck? Yes, I do (not so much in season 1). I was like wait it's going to be like this all the time with this character, I don't want it. Then we grow. Then we change. Then we adapt...hmm, maybe I'm in love with this ADHD bisexual bouncing golden retriever. Okay, cool. However, I think we're easily shifting blame to Taylor all because of the one mistake she nearly made when her character first appeared.

Med Rewatch Series (#1)

Right, monkey brain said no sleep no rest, only suffering at the hands of med.

I am going to start with the first episode of S2: Soul Care. Reasoning? I need to check if Latham references Ava in his first interaction with Connor.

If my memory serves me right, when Connor is passed over to Latham for his fellowship, Latham says that he was not his first choice. In fact, his first choice was a brilliant surgeon from South Africa. In the first episode of S2, a season where Ava Bekker is only introduced with one line at the end of the last episode.

If I remember correctly and Latham does actually say that in the first ep of s2, it will be huge for the continuity (and my theory that I came up with today, if you’re interested in following this you should really read that really long post that came a little before this where the basis of the theory is laid out). 

Also in rewatching this I see more of Sarah which, again, I have not seen in two years, and she was the reason I became invested in the show, and the reason I stopped watching after she left.

And all of this even before I start the episode.

There are so many emotions and thoughts running through my brain it literally hurts. I think i’m getting a headache. I’m already really regretting this, this cannot be healthy for me.

- i find noah incredibly annoying, especially bc he tries to overshadow reese (my fav) but also just bc hes spoiled [that thing that said that one of the biggest mistakes med made was not having sarah get the emergency med residency at the end of s1 comes to mine, and the fact that noah got his residency easy peasy] - but, i will say that the moment at the end of this season where noah and reese dance together at the party is very adorable. (pre reesker brain showing lmao I really did love sarah with my whole heart) (moreover my snapchat memories were filled with just recordings of reese scenes lmaooooo)

-okay at this point I need to stop once i get to the potential ava thing bc what is happening we’re not even two minutes in why is this so long. (so many thoughts)

-okay so i actually watched s1 after i watched s2 which is so weird to think about. like that means that i liked s2 so much that i BOUGHT THE DVD FOR S1. yeah. I liked it that much (it really only means I was that much of a simp for sarah). but it also means that technically i watched s1 after i met ava?? like i honestly had NO CLUE what was in my future. did young me ever think she was going to stay up late at night, avoiding history hw while analyzing a defunct character from this show on a whim? a character i was super annoyed with at the beginning? who has no become a huge part of my personality? honestly? no. no she did not.

-and the story with downey was so jarring. and the story with zanetti. like i think i first started watching with the first ep of s2 (the one im talking about rn) and i was a bit lost. so going back and watch s1 to like connect the dots. but i never expected the dots to look like that. its like each season of this show is a completely different show from all the other seasons. like i’ve said before, this show is a headache. but literally latham please come and end this for now.

- like i had absolutely no clue who downey was going into this. and they they started talking like ‘oh yeah he killed his attending’ and i was just like ‘damn bro ill cheers to that’

- that’s literally ava’s first line actually. “i heard your girlfriend went insane and you murdered your attending.” - which was why she was hated at first. that was literally her first line to connor which is like, so hilariously rude that it was instantly iconic.

-also HAHAHAHAH CUE FUCKING ANGST ABOUT CONNOR HURTING EVERYONE AROUND HIM WTF BRO THE EFFECT YOU HAVE ON PEOPLE

- but i’m also sad now. --- “I heard your girlfriend went insane.” Oh. Oh, sweetie. Ava... No. --- but why does s2 ava (all two lines) foreshadow s4 ava in so many ways. like literally what were the writers on.

-ah yes. the return of baghdad. been a long time since i heard that one, but it is easily one of my favorite running things about med. its just a little detail but the nick name is like perfect. (when i read fanfic where the chars are actually doing doctor stuff in the hospital it makes me light up) the WORLD BUILDINGGGGG. but whatever

-this is the girl who has the fake baby right? that was a really good ep (bc sarah content. can you see my favorites? for the same reason the one where the girl has split personalities easily ranks high with me.) oh wait this is the one where the dad like dies but then comes back for a split second to see his grand child. there’s not really a lot I can say about that, but the fact that i remember it vividly is... weird.

-okay but I actually love the ED in this show. I love how the show is centered around the ED and not the OR like greys. its fast paced, you see a lot about the characters really quickly (one of the reason’s connor’s intro to the hospital in the pilot is certified iconic in my mind [his interactions with will are gold]). the team works well together (usually, when things are good. - which is another reason I hated the show more as time went on. The personal lives interfered more and more and more with their work as time went on. it got so annoying). but like right here will just calls maggies name and maggie is just On It. I love it. I love the fast pace. it’s why this show got me to come back. so many things happen, it overloads my brain, like the way a video game works y occupying all of your attention.

-when is the dad gonna pass out i’m just waiting

That’s an actual quote, from Latham. For those who are wondering, Groote Schuur is a famous hospital in, you guessed it, South Africa. This is where I’m calling the episode. This is all I needed.

I just want to restate. This is the first episode of season 2. Ava Bekker is introduced to the show in the last episode of season 2. What does this mean, my friends? It means everything.

For those of you who stuck through to the end, I am very thankful. Here we have probably the first piece of evidence to my theory, at least chronologically.

I, personally, think it’s absurd I remembered this point, but I did. That point, that line, presently, watching this episode with no idea of what the future holds, is only there to tell us that Latham and Connor are not going to agree. But this is the single greatest piece of foreshadowing med has ever done.

Med has never planned anything. I feel confident when I say that. Look at their storylines. They are literally on fire, and every decision the characters make reads like the writers going ‘we have no idea how we made it this far, we thought we would get stopped like ten steps ago.’

When has med ever planned things more than a few episodes in advanced, honestly? Almost never, and going a full season sitting on a plot point, that’s major. This was the first time med has ever planned something miles in advance.

In all honestly, yes I am probably giving the med writers a lot more credit than they deserve. It’s quite possible that as the season progressed they just decided connor needed a new love interest or at least a new dynamic, so they could have just easily looked back and thought ‘oh, hey, here’s a fun little thing we said earlier in the season, wouldn’t it be fun if it paid off?’ That could be true.

Here’s why it probably isn’t. The med writers have no respect for their own continuity. you really think that, in order to come up with a whole new character, they went back to the first episode of the season and paid off a line that is said in less than 2 seconds? no way. Bull. Shit.

honestly, it is probably equally unlikely that either of these things happened. The med writers don’t look back at their story. It’s true, but they also don’t plan things in advance either.

here’s the thing, the more i write, the more absurd it starts to sound. Yeah. Sure. the med writers sat on a character for an entire season, that’s totally a thing that happened and not sarcasm. When pigs fly. everyone knows med is impulsive and messy. But what I am saying is that they planned one thing. One thing.

Ava has an accent. That was a commitment. A pretty uncommon one too. South Africa is such an out of the box choice that god its barely on the map. It asks a lot of someone to act hard while also doing an uncommon accent. If the med writers just decided they needed to give connor a new dynamic, they could have made it a n y o n e. Yeah, sure it would have been nice to have the latham dynamic with the new character, but it would have been so much easier to just create a new character that doesn’t have such a commitment. We all know people who play opposite of Connor Rhodes do not stay around that long.

There is absolutely no reason Connor’s s3 love interest had to be the girl from South Africa. It could have literally been anyone. They could have kept Robin on. They could have made the new character not have so many specific requirements.

At this point, I’m pushing this really hard. Yeah, obviously Ava was planned from the beginning of s2. She had to be. It’s way too specific to be anything else.

What I’m pointing out here is med has never done that before. (at least to my knowledge, if i’m wrong please tell me i don’t want to be a fool) They have never had such a concrete plan for a character, so much as to tease them a full season before they were introduced.

I’m saying, that Ava was special. She was the only character who was teased ahead of her arrival. The one who they knew they wanted, other than the originals, and honestly saying the ‘knew what they wanted to do with the originals’ is being generous. But Ava was different. They had big plans for Ava.

It’s undeniable. Ava was the only character who was planned and teased ahead of her arrival. Ava has such a different style and character than anyone else on the show. She was always planned to be, even when she was just being teased, a rival to connor, meaning she could stand her own against him (or without him).

Now of course, the med writers forgot this when writing s4 and s5. But for the purposes of the important things, all that really matters are the two mentions in s2, and what happens in s3. (for the theory at least).

In conclusion: think about how odd it is that Ava was the only character that was planned over the course of the show. Like sure the characters are planned, but never this far in advance. Med writers don’t really plan anything. I would be shocked if they did anything but through a dart at a spinning wheel. But they had plans for Ava, and they had plans for s3, when she was good.

Think about how odd it is that the med writers had a character planned from the start of s2, that they sat on for a whole season. They never, ever did something so slow and deliberate. Never. It goes against their formula. Like a fucking shark, they have to be moving or they die, at least in their heads. But Ava was always a change to the formula. They had a plan for s3.
