Hunter manages to shove all the junk into one corner and make the start of a fairly presentable bed in the other corner by the time the human re-arrives in the Boiling Isles and throws open his door hard enough to smack it against the wall.

“You took my advice!” shouts the human, at the top of her lungs.

“Hiiiiii,” says Hunter, hands over his ears. The human takes a deep breath. Hunter closes the door in her face. “Byeeee.”

There's a lot of lines I've written over the years that make me laugh, but Hunter and Luz as a funny sibling duo…. Every time I reread this fic I giggle at this scene. 

😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?

OH ABSOLUTELY there's a few lil ones… I think the one I do most often is namedrop other fandoms/charcters? This happens a lot in my KH fics. Like I'll have a TWEWY reference or character show up for like one second and then never again. Just for funsies and also flavor and also bc I love twewy. 

Sometimes I will also set up scenes specifically to make readers think the worse happened/some guy died or whatever and then it gets revealed its something funny instead. I do that a lot too djhsfgkj

🎢Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

LABYRINTHS OF THE HEART. I love all I've written but nothing will ever come close to Labyrinths. It was freshmen year of college and stuff was happening irl and that fic just. Went places. I had so much fun with it.

Ohhh gosh. Okay so its either Klee meeting the knights of Favonius or Hyakkimaru and Dororo comedy fic hjdfgkjgh

💖What made you start writing?

Oooo I gotta think about this one... hmmm, I think, I've always been a daydreamer and as a kid I used to be annoyed I couldn't "reread" my daydreams like I could my favorite books?? so I decided I just had to write them down eventually I think jhdfkgj

Of course in my mind before i could write down my ideas I had to actually get GOOD at writing (kid brain. My logic is silly, write whatever and whenever u want, u do not need "skill" to get started but ANYWAY) that's also how I started writing fic, for writing practice!! And now years later I'm still at it haha

🎯Have any of your readers accurately guessed major plot points? Care to share which?

Oooooh, a lot of readers in Labyrinths guessed the final plot point, which is that Varian will become the moondrop… most of my fics don't tend to have major twists though, I think…? There's one other fic I've written that has a HUGEE twist, but it hasn't been revealed yet and no one's guessed it yet, so ;)

i have a player and xehanort on the island fic in the works (exploring his possible childhood, character study and legacies kinda thing), and its still veeeeeery rough draft (like. basically still just notes) but I do have this exchange!!!

The above exhange: "i love you / that isn't what I asked / but it is my answer" has actually shown up in a few fics! It's a common theme I guess u could say... its a conversation that means something to me and I think it is changed slightly by the context of every story, so I keep bringing it in jhdfgkj

Other things that crop up a lot....Found family for sure! Uhhh the phrase "rolling the thought like candy on [their] tongue" shows up a lot without my meaning it too djhfgjkh

Oh!!! Honey!! Honey shows up a lot. I think honey is fantastic. Did u know it lasts forever? Also it has great medical properties--Anyway I think you get the idea haha

10. What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistant hobby?

It's hard to say cause I've been drawing since I was a baby, but I definitely know that I loved art classes in school and was glad to have encouraging teachers, and I was glad that my parents were supportive of that for a hobby. I think digital art being consistent for me is when I saved up to get my very first drawing tablet, there was barely anything on the market at that point and they were all super expensive but I saved up for aaaaages and dad helped me... Acquire some adobe programs so I could draw in Photoshop (and edit in premiere!!) And I just thought it was soooo interesting trying to figure out how far I could push the program and how to make drawings look epic cause it was all digital. Once I got over the initial frustration of my art looking crappy cause skill and understanding of the program+tablet was tricky, it was game on. Back then I didn't have internet either so I couldn't look up how to use Photoshop, I just had to play around for HOURS figuring out what to do. Once that Wacom broke for good (but it lasted nearly a decade!) I asked my dad if we could split payment and get me an iPad for my bday, he ended up getting the iPad and pencil and I got all the other accessories. I'm not an apple fan at all but I love the portability and that's helped increase my habit too, cause I can draw in bed or on the couch or at my desk, and it's not as clunky as setting up my laptop and wacom

14. How has your art changed over the years?

God, so much. I don't have any of my REALLY old art from when I was a little kid, but I have some from when I first started digital art. Compared to recent years... Yeah it's a lot 🤠👍

16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc

Depends on what I'm working on... For bigger pieces getting the right poses and composition and perspective can be huge, for others it's the rendering and especially picking the right colours. Maybe the most daunting thing for me is making sure everything looks consistent within the piece haha, I've got one that I've been working on and off for over a year so I had to redraw the base sketches to match my style changes lmao

22. When is your prime time to work on your art?

Usually in the evening or at night, when it's easiest to just sit and chill with some music or something on the TV while I draw

25. Based on your recent reference searches, what would the FBI assume about you?

That I like ladies holding guns in their knickers (and they're not even holding the guns correctly) or that I'm a huge homo (I am)

How knowing the characters makes it so much easier to connect and resonate, even though Mumbo is absent from the majority of the fic, we still feel hurt after finding out whats happened to him. I like your point about how fanfiction can maximize story potential! I think it'd make a wonderful essay topic honestly. I have thought about this in connection with fanfic a lot--specifically, the divide between original fiction and fanfiction. In original works, you have to make the audience care. You have to introduce me to a character, setting, and story I will be interested in. I've read a lot of negative book reviews that start off with "the author didn't make me care about the characters" (i have also...said this myself about books I ended up not liking.) With fanfic, you skip that step! It lets you jump right in. I don't have to explain Mumbo and Grian's friendship or demonstrate it to you. You just Know. Someone reading it fandom blind would get the implication about how important they are to each other simply by seing the depth of Grian's grief, but for my intended audience, I can do whatever I want because I trust you to already have the background information you need.

The title is from a line I really like in a song (Post Humorous by Gus Dapperton). It just...painted such a nice word picture. Especially for a story about grief death and fire!

as someone who had (has!! i still love it!) an enduring dr stone obsession in 2021-2022, i am IMMUNE to boichi's art!!! this is significantly hornier than dcst though, not that i'm surprised in the slightest, dcst does have its own horny designs/moments unfortunately... this is the difference between shonen and seinen i suppose--hold on, that's not what this post is about!! *deletes entire other paragraph talking about dr stone*

60 years post-canon... vash's lifespan has been significantly shortened, but i do wonder how much he has left in him. he lived 150 years without any visible black appearing in his hair, so even if he has just a few strands of blonde left, they might last him a long time... well i don't think any of these stories are canon anyway so it doesn't matter LOL

as far as the plot goes...

the explanation for how plants produce matter is interesting but why did it manifest as a child and why is it a black hole and why this specific plant and how did vash even--oh, WHATEVER!! i suppose there is a reason boichi was the artist for dr stone and not the writer.

very cool to see vash drawn in boichi's style though! it's pretty similar to the early dr stone manga, even though dcst came 5+ years later... and the art style of dcst changed over time, although--wait, no, that's NOT what this post is about!!!

incredibly jarring tone shift from the previous story lol... i really enjoy the rai-dei focus though. he's cool but he didn't get a backstory in the manga so i appreciate this a lot. i wouldn't mind more stories like this focusing exclusively on side characters tbh.

it gets pretty brutal... i don't know what to say about this story besides that. it's an interesting look at what could've made rai-dei the way he is.

cutting is fighting:

we're ending this not with a bang but with a whimper... swapping meryl in for the haircut scene is... blegh. whatever. and they exaggerate her crush on vash too much. like yeah she's kind of tsundere in canon (moreso in the anime imo) but she's not a teenager yknow? the satellite tv story did that too but that one was supposed to be goofy and exaggerated so it was whatever.

the most interesting thing here is the lack of dialogue. that's a fun creative choice. and i like the gag with vash's hair being too nasty to comb LOL... and the haircut options. that's all...

overall i'd give this a... 6.5/10? 'les enfants' was definitely my favorite by far and nightow's story was a lot of fun too. the others ranged from "meh at best" to "sure, it was good" lol. i liked seeing the different art styles... i don't have much else to say.

I know very little about Christianity, let alone classical (?) Christianity, but I'm honestly kinda digging your demon designs. I especially love lucifers silly little pose, I don't know how to articulate it, but it really does sell to me that he's an embodiment of pride. Kinda like he's overcompensating? He IS one of the shortest in the lineup.

Thank youuuuu!!! I'm glad you noticed how small he is, cause it was intended! Only Belphegor is shorter, and that is only cause I always saw it as the lesser know prince of hell (therefore less powerful and all). Since Lucifer's whole deal is being prideful, I can't imagine he'd change his angel form, thinking it's perfect and such, even after. But also he'd be soooo mad the other sins make fun of his height.

I mainly based his design off Fallen Angel by Alexandre Cabanel (1847), specially the hair and bodytype.

I changed his eye color from blue/grey to green to match the peacock feathers at the end of his wings, which I gave to bring back the pride motif.

And I also was inspired by Lucifer by Louis Le Breton (from Dictionnaire Infernale by Collin de Plancy, 1863). The sheer cuntyness. The big ol eyes. The nubby horns. The cake.

catelyn...i've said this before but i do think she's the most transformative and groundbreaking character in the series like. the decision to make her be such a central point of narrative and character development and allowing her thoughts and feelings and character to take center stage when a hundred lesser works would have made her a supporting character in ned and robb's stories. showstopping brilliant awe inspiring etc. also her chapters are just so visceral and real and emotional and heartrending. no lie i read most catelyn chapters esp post-agot through a thin film of tears. i also think she's really fascinating as an exploration of female anger and the vengeance/justice conundrum especially as someone who is very gender conforming and has played by the rules most of her life. soooo good her narrative is so rich and poetic and tragic.

theon...i literally cannot talk about theon without sounding like an insane person but he is everything to me. his arc has so much interesting to say about gender and trauma and cultural alienation and cycles of violence and identity and i also think he's probably the character that evolves the most simply because his two books might as well be two different people but they're not and they tie together beautifully and painfully. i totally slept on acok theon until after i read adwd theon but acok theon is also like an incredible read in of itself, and then that story goes to a completely unexpected yet deeply compelling second act. so good!

jaime...jaime is such a FUN character in some ways he is genuinely funny and has such deep charisma but he is also a pathetic little flop worm and then weirdly and endearingly earnest on top of it all. he's evil lancelot and he's tyrion's mother figure and he's a maladjusted little boy who wanted to grow up to be a hero....good shit.

brienne...i love brienne. this is a pattern obviously but i think her story is an absolutely fascinating and very groundbreaking and nuanced exploration of gender and i think the way it's portrayed is very kind and gentle and that makes sense because that's who brienne is despite it all...she means so much to me fr. also i think her chapters in affc are the single most underrated arc of the series they are such great character work and such a beautiful and painful mediation on the cost of war.

sansa...I'm going to be honest with you, rereading asoiaf as an adult I have definitely found myself relating more to the adult characters and connecting less w the child characters than I once did. sansa is still my girl though. i love her themes of songs and stories and endurance, i love how smart she is, i love her thoughtfulness and the small ways she earns space back for herself when she's surrounded by people trying to use or destroy her.
