The East Sun Building – Karen Taylor
Tumblr media
▲ Sun Myung Moon and Kamiyama with a fishing boat in production
_________________________________
March 19, 2001
The East Sun Building was my prison for nearly two years. Not only did I work there in building the Good Go sports fishing boats, but I also lived there, as did all the Master Marine members. I believe that it was considered cheap and convenient to keep us in that huge, cold and dark hulk of a place. Eventually we were moved to the New Yorker Hotel due to Fire Department inspections. Of course, it was completely illegal and hazardous for us to live in the building, but like the Blues Brothers, we were on a mission for God!
The East Sun Building was located directly across from a large housing project. It was a very dangerous area with the predominant occupants being black and Hispanic Americans. To venture out at night was to tempt fate, but I have walked to the East Sun Building from the Long Island City subway station quite often during daylight hours without incident.
I felt like a prisoner in the place and I refer to my time there as “repaying my debt to society” or “my Danbury sentence”. We were never taken anywhere for Sunday outings while living in the place and the brothers had awful living conditions. Their living quarters were an enormous windowless dark room on the 2nd floor with a bed platform built of plywood that ran the entire length of the room. It had been promised by Mr. Kamiyama that the platform would be carpeted, but that never occurred.
The handful of sisters that were sent to work in the place had much better living conditions, but we all felt trapped and there was a heavy atmosphere of unhappiness in the building. Many members who were considered problematic were sent there from different church departments, particularly CARP. The East Sun Building effectively became a dumping ground.
One CARP member was sent to work in Master Marine who had been discovered during an aggressive witnessing campaign. Bobby was a 16 year old runaway. This boy eventually broke into the Master Marine office one night, stole about $12,000, and vanished into New York City. He knew that he would not be pursued since he left a note clearly indicating that he would contact the Dept. of Immigration and reveal how many illegal immigrants were working for Master Marine if we pressed charges. Smart kid.
I loved Mr. Kamiyama’s (TK) explanation to Master Marine members that this was indemnity to prevent a serious injury to one of the boat builders. The truth is, TK had already been instructed by Rev. Moon that the boy should go home, but nobody took action, even after I spoke to the production supervisor about Bobby’s bad behavior. This theft was preventable. I would call this “indumbnity”!
We were visited by Rev. Moon fairly regularly and I have had a unique experience or two with him while working there.

Prosecution Rests in Tax-Fraud Trial of Rev. Moon (1982)
Tumblr media
New York Times - Arnold H. Lubasch - May 2, 1982
The prosecution has rested its case in the tax-fraud trial of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon after presenting 30 witnesses and approximately 1,000 documents.
In four weeks of presenting the evidence in Federal District Court in Manhattan, the prosecutors sought to show that Mr. Moon had deliberately failed to report more than $150,000 of personal income on his tax returns from 1973 through 1975.
Mr. Moon, the 62-year-old Korean evangelist who heads the Unification Church, contends that he had merely been holding church funds that were not subject to income taxes. Judge Reserves Decision
On Friday, after hearing arguments by both sides, Judge Gerard L. Goettel reserved his decision on a defense motion to dismiss the charges on the ground that the prosecution had failed to prove its case.
The prosecution's last witness was Dr. Herbert Rowe, a former manager of a paper-manufacturing company. Dr. Rowe said that some key church documents that were supposedly signed in 1973 were written on paper that was not manufactured until 1974.
When asked if the manufacturing date was proved by a watermark on the paper, he replied, ''That is correct.'' The disputed documents were supposed to show that foreign church funds had been deposited in Mr. Moon's bank accounts, supporting the defense view that the accounts held church funds. But the prosecution contended that the documents had been created and backdated to obstruct the tax investigation. When the testimony ended on Thursday, Martin Flumenbaum, a prosecutor, told the judge that ''the Government rests in its direct case.'' The prosecution team of Mr. Flumenbaum, Jo Ann Harris, James R. DeVita and Joan S. Alexander could present rebuttal evidence later. Defense to Begin Tomorrow The defense case is scheduled to begin tomorrow. The defense lawyers are Charles A. Stillman, Andrew M. Lawler and Bernard S. Bailor, who declined to say whether they would present any witnesses.
Mr. Moon is on trial with a co-defendant, Takeru Kamiyama, a top aide charged with helping file false tax returns and obstructing the investigation.
Prosecution witnesses included Chase Manhattan Bank officials who said that Mr. Moon had deposited $1.6 million in bank accounts, mostly in cash, and a Unification Church official who acknowledged that Mr. Moon had been given $50,000 of stock in a tea-importing company formed by the church.
Former Unification Church officials, testifying reluctantly under subpoenas, identified documents concerning a Westchester County estate where Mr. Moon and his family live.
The documents showed that the church had bought the estate in 1973 for $625,000, including $361,000 from Mr. Moon's accounts at Chase Manhattan. They described the $361,000 as Mr. Moon's ''personal money'' and said he had given it to the church as a ''loan.'' 'Not Accessible' to the Church
Michael Y. Warder, another former official of the church, testified under immunity from prosecution that Mr. Kamiyama had told him that the Chase Manhattan accounts contained Mr. Moon's money and were ''not accessible'' to the church.
Mr. Warder said he had been publisher of the church newspaper, The News World, and had held many budget discussions with Mr. Kamiyama. He added that he had lied to investigators about church operations to help Mr. Moon, but that the church leader had not told him to lie.
The charges against Mr. Moon accuse him of failure to report more than $100,000 of interest from the Chase Manhattan accounts, which were in his name, and $50,000 of stock issued to him by the teaimporting company, called Tong Il Enterprises.
If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to five years for conspiracy and three years on each of three counts of filing false tax returns.
A jury of two men and 10 women is hearing the case.

who among our Riders are going to be able to accomplish that feat?
Ironically enough, Touma. He was a gymnast after all... And maybe Takeru- if he has his ghosty levitation powers activated, he could pull off some neat tricks.

Alright soo........
I was browsing RiderWiki and found this....
Tumblr media
The same page (basically Ogami's page) later says that Ogami is 36 during the events of Saber. So that makes Rintaro 23 or 24 during Saber.... right?
If so... then either that's the age they want him to be, or they're basically going off of Takaya's age. and if they're going off of Takaya's age, then would that mean that Touma and Kento are 24/25?

Moon jailed for a “massive” and systematic effort to defraud the government and obstruct justice, including the manufacturing and backdating of documents
Tumblr media
Rev. Sun Myung Moon to serve jail time
The Pantagraph May 14, 1984 By Betty Fletcher
WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court yesterday refused to review the tax-fraud conviction of the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the Unification Church leader who faces 18 months’ imprisonment beginning June 18 and a $25,000 fine.
The court, without dissent, rejected Moon’s appeal despite an extraordinary high-powered campaign to convince the justices that the sentence raised fundamental questions of religious freedom.
Dozens of civil liberties, civil rights and religious organizations, as well as numerous newspaper editorialists, had urged the court to review the conviction.
Dr. Mose Durst, president of the Unification Church in the United States, said that yesterday was a “day of shame” for America – the first time a worldwide religious figure has faced prison in the United States.
“We believe he (Moon) is the central figure through whom God will work in this age,” Durst said in a telephone interview. “…For a nation to abuse this man, God forbid what’s going to happen to this country. As I read the Bible, any time a people abuses its priests or religious leaders, there is a tragedy that follows.”
Durst said that Moon, 64, was informed of the court’s action yesterday morning at his Irvington NY estate, a half-hour north of New York City.
“He spent the morning comforting those around him,” Durst said. He said that Moon was prepared to go to prison is necessary. “As with the entire process, he will fulfill the law to the T,” Durst said.
Moon’s lead attorney, Harvard Law School professor Laurence H. Tribe, said yesterday that he would continue his efforts to the District Court level to keep Moon out of federal prison in Allenwood, PA.
Tribe said he would present new information to bolster his claim that Moon was persecuted because of his religious activities and beliefs.
The federal government had told the court that the case raised no significant constitutional issues.
The case, which stemmed from Moon’s failure to pay taxes on the interest earned on more than $1.7 million, involved a “massive” and systematic effort to defraud the government and obstruct justice, including the manufacturing and backdating of documents, the government told the court.
Moon founded the Unification Church in Korea 30 years ago as a Christian revivalist religion and now claims a worldwide membership of 3 million, a US membership 30,000 and substantial business interests worth millions of dollars.
Moon and an associate, Takeru Kamiyama, were convicted by a jury in July 1982 of intentionally failing to pay taxes on the interest earned from more than $1.7 million in personal fraud.

Confession in the Unification Church
MUST LISTEN: The "Cult of Confession" episode of Blessed Child podcast
One Twitter user @kijinosu describes this episode and its content:
"In this podcast, Renee describes a feature of thought reform that I hadn't seen elsewhere in my yet brief studies. Let me label it the Big Brother effect and put it out for discussion. Listen to ‘Cult of Confession with Renee'. I call it the Big Brother effect because, as I understand it, UC's incessant report-contact-consult practice combined with group confession causes the believer to feel that they are always being watched. In response to this feeling of always being watched, the believer creates a god that covers all of the demands of the collective. Because satisfying this god then satisifes all of the collective's demands, the believer focuses just on this god. The end result is self-reinforcing thought reform that is less dependent of the collective for maintenance.”
Confession in the Unification Church
Moon and Kwak on repentance, October 1989:
Each one of us needs heavenly wisdom to solve the problem of our own burden. To be able to live a lifestyle in which we can confess and report things to a central figure can only bring us great fortune.
Hyo Nam Kim (Dae Mo Nim) on March 9, 2002:
In the Divine Principle, is there anything written about the removal of Original sin? In the first, original Blessings, to qualify we had to confess all of our sins and repent and accept pardon as part of the condition to receive the Blessing. Yet, from 6000 Couples Blessing on, our sins were forgiven upon easier and easier conditions. Father would say, subsequently, "I will not ask about your past... just repent and recommit..."
Sun Myung Moon on April 26, 1992:
"Even now you sometimes sneak a drink. Father understands this very well, these secret drinks taste the best. Raise your hands if you sneak a drink sometimes. If you do not confess, it will carry over to the Spirit World."
From the Interview and Confession Form for BC Matching/Blessing Applicants:
It is the responsibility of your District Director (or the designated church leader or STF Director), representing the Continental Director and True Parents, to make sure that you understand the value of the Blessing and that you are prepared and qualified to attend. This confidential meeting is also your opportunity to confess any sins and perhaps receive guidance so that you can go into the Blessing with a clean conscience, free from accusation. Sin came into this world through the fall and cut us off from God, therefore it is important to confess your sins. Do not try to hide your mistakes because they will eventually come out and cause even more pain. The confession pages will stay confidentially with a representative of the Blessing Department. All three pages must be submitted to the Blessing Department.
Conference with [Black] Heung Jin Nim - Takeru Kamiyama (1987)
Before he came to New York in November 1987, I had heard many stories about his new existence in the body of a black African young man, traveling around and hearing confessions. I wondered, how can this brother really be [Black] Heung Jin Nim? Members all over the world are claiming that [Black] Heung Jin Nim has spoken through them, but how can we know if he really did?
Black Heung Jin Nim in DC by Damian Anderson
"With my own eyes, I saw this man in the Washington DC church knock people’s heads together, hit them viciously with a baseball bat, smack them around the head, punch them, and handcuff them with golden handcuffs. I had seen enough. Todd Lindsay was the first to leave. His wife was due to have a baby any day. My wife was six months pregnant at the time, and we were next in line for “confession” to the heavy-handed inquisitor."
Heung Jin Nim’s Spiritual Work by Michael Mickler:
These lectures, punctuated by songs and testimonies or sometimes lively jumping and marching, also took hours, and there was no provision for sleep during the three days. Food also was not a problem since most members were placed on fasting conditions following their confessions. Heung Jin Nim showed special concern for infertile couples and called for couples willing to give birth to a child for them to adopt. There were “tears streaming from many eyes” as “the giving and receiving couples embraced with deep emotion.” At the close of each conference, “participants were given a detailed schedule for their…lives of devotion and attendance,” including time for morning and evening prayers and for study and discussion of the Principle. Many members experienced personal liberation. Public confession or confession with one’s spouse was a prominent feature of “Black” Heung Jin Nim’s conferences. They could unburden themselves of deeply held secrets and “separate from Satan.” Within an intensely supportive environment, they could repent, make restitution as needed, and have a “second chance” to become pure. Others achieved levels of spiritual intimacy, which had been lacking.
On the MRA’s use of confession
Encyclopedia.com on Frank Buchman’s use of confession in the Oxford Group Movement:
He organized his followers into small groups where participants could confess their sins and share their religious experiences in an intimate setting; members would then seek to convert others through one-onone evangelism. Buchman's followers listened for God's plans for their lives, and measured their behavior through a moral code centered on absolute honesty, purity, unselfishness, and love (the Four Absolutes). During the 1920s Buchman developed an international network of these small groups that became known as the Oxford Group Movement.
Encyclopedia.com on Frank Buchman’s use of confession in the Moral Re-Armament Movement:
In 1938 he announced the campaign for Moral Rearmament (MRA), offering Christianity as an alternative to both communism and fascism. In the late 1930s MRA sought to prevent war by calling individuals on each side to confess their sins to the other and adhere to the Four Absolutes. During World War II it turned its energies to morale building, especially in industrial relations. MRA saw Christianity and communism as the world's two competing ideologies; during the Cold War it sought to defend the West, primarily by focusing on labor peace, strong families, and moral values. Through the 1950s the movement held international rallies and used the media skillfully; it achieved prominence by publicizing the involvement of world leaders, especially from the United States, the British Commonwealth, and Asia.

Touma: Royal Librarian?
Sougo: Right! You can have all the books you need and you can give me the books my advisor needs on certain situations.
Touma: Who's been indulging Sougo-kun with his dreams?
Takeru: I think this is my fault.
Takeru: I was fighting a monster earlier and I kind uttered "I believe in humanity's potential."
Sougo: So what do you say, Touma-san?
Touma: I'll think about it, Sougo-kun.

Takeru: Do I have to?
