I’ve been trying to sort folders full of old random stuff (images, photos, graphics, stories -- all kinds of crap) and I came across some Really Old SWEU-related stuff I made. Here’s what each thing is and some notes about them.
INSERT PHILOSOPHICAL SHIT HERE -- 2008
Some friends and I made playlists that were musicals for EU characters and I did one for Jacen and it was just called HEY. This was one of the images for the main post I made about it. There was one for each song.
I wonder if I can find the other ones because I remember in one of them Jacen had a mullet.
This shit was ridiculous and I really miss all the people I did this ridiculous stuff with. ;D
THE SARLACC -- really early... near prequels?
My sister and I were like LET’S PUT CHARACTERS IN THE SARLACC.
I can’t remember what the site was gonna be but we had a ball in MS Paint.
LOOK AFTER YOUR BROTHER -- a Death Troopers fanmix -- 2009
This was an unfinished front & back cover for the mix I never finished.
THAT BOOK WAS A TRIP AND I EFFING LOVED IT.
god kale and trig were so good and precious
VARIOUS NEW JEDI ORDER FANARTS LOLOL -- mid-2000′s????
The Jedi Strike Team because of course.
A totally accurate depiction of a voxyn.

My Favorite Star Wars Book Ever
Tumblr media
At this point, my deep and abiding love of the Star Wars EU Legends Continuity Books is no secret, and I have apparently pissed off a few people who were fans of Kenobi (the book, not the the show). Them's the breaks in the fandom that is helmed by Anakin *bring the goddamn drama or get off my stage* Skywalker. (Please realize that that is said lovingly; I am HERE for Solo/Skywalker legacy shenanagins.) And speaking of legacy shenanagins, the fact that this book is the culmination of arcs for so many characters that we have literally been able to watch grow up and survive many adventures as the Yuuzhan Vong threaten to annihilate the galaxy is what makes it my unequivocal, hands-down, ride-or-die favorite Star Wars book. Let's talk Star By Star.
*Spoilers abound below the break*
So, like many Star Wars books, the plot of Star By Star is pretty darn straightforward: The Mission to Myrkr to kill the Voxyn Queen and it's immediate aftermath, interlaced with the fall of Coruscant to the Yuuzhan Vong. (For anyone who needs a refresher or an explanation, let me direct you to the one, the only, the wonderful Wookieepedia.)
What makes this book absolutely fucking AMAZING is a combination of the character work and worldbuilding, much of which comes to a glorious head in this book--as well it should, this is very much the turning point of the Yuuzhan Vong war. It also launches a solid half dozen long-ranging new arcs for characters that I just adore.
Normally I do my best to have coherent, organized thoughts about books, but at this point what I really want to do is just a big, messy, disorganized list of stuff I love about this book. So, in the immortal words of Captain Han Solo: Punch it!
The whole concept of the voxyn and the voxyn queen. Let's be real, predators bioengineered to hunt down and murder the crap out of jedi with their ability to sense force-users, sonic blast roars, acid saliva, retrovirous-laden paw pads, and a poisoned tail barb. These things are horrifying and genuinely felt like a threat to the jedi, which honestly got kinda hard to do sometimes in the EU. The big "they're all cloned from a single queen" is a wee bit video game weak spot/boss fight, but honestly I'm not complaining given the sheer grind that this mission becomes.
The Jedi Strike Team Dynamics. This TEAM you guys. This team is an absolute disaster from start to finish. Not only do you have all three Solo kids with their sibling fuckery dynamics--specifically Jacen and Anakin's crippling fundamental disagreement on force use ethics that ultimately is a rehash of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's debate about the living vs. unifying force but in an apocalyptic combat zone--but almost every member of this team is potentially a disaster. You have Tenel Ka, Tahiri Veila, and Zekk on the team, who are collective love interests for the Solo siblings, and I'm pretty sure that sending siblings and couples on life-and-death missions is not a good idea because instincts and motivations get all sorts of fucky and tangled. Then you have Alema Rar, whose sister gets acid-in-the-faced-to-death by a voxyn in chapter 1 of this book, which is just a disaster waiting to happen. Then you have the friendship dynamics with Raynar Thul, Lowbacca, and Tesar Sebatyne, which arguably carries over some of the young jedi knights dynamics that never got solved. This team was a TIME BOMB, and frankly the fact that they managed to pull this mission off is a miracle.
The Battle/Force/Jedi Meld. So, not only do we have a team full of hideously complicated and unstable relationships, but they spend the entire goddamn mission in a meld that basically lets them all be in each other's thoughts and feelings and share extreme physical sensations, including pain. Which like...The Vong are major pain fans, so this might have been a poor life choice. Plus, it sets up some of the complicated stuff with Raynar and Jaina and Zekk in the Killick War later. *weird telepathic forearm rubbing* That said, I love the idea of the battle meld, and it really is just a great ride to watch this shred the team.
The Yuuzhan Vong Worldbuilding. Literally the worldbuilding for the Vong in this whole series is A+ horrifying and fascinating. We just get a lot of it here, and it's used to excellent effect.
Anakin's Death. Ok, so this was fucking heartbreaking, and it might seem like a weird thing to put on a list of things I love about this book. But what makes this death just an incredible read is the quality of the writing, the impact on the mission, and the fact that this death sets Jacen on the path to becoming a Sith Lord, pushes Tahiri into becoming the badass she grows into, fundamentally changes how we think about the unifying and living force, and honestly adds some stakes because if the Solo kids aren't safe, then literally ANYONE could die here. This death is so critical and changed so much and was done with respect and weight.
Borsk Fey'lya's Death. We don't love this Bothan. He's kind of a dick. But uh...I will give him credit for buying time for people to get off-planet during the fall of Coruscant, and for blowing 25,000 Vong to hell along with him.
Lando Calrissian Being the Only Adult in the Room With Eyes. Lando delivers the strike team to the Vong, but before he does, he starts a fight. Lando Calrissian HAS EYES IN HIS HEAD and can clearly see the lines along which the strike team is destined to fissure. He tries so hard to get them to air it out before the mission and to clear the air. It doesn't work, but he TRIED, and that's more than Luke or Han did. I guess that's what happens when you're a farmboy who has never had to lead a pre-fractured team and a gruff loner who did everything himself. Lando though...Lando understands that even Jedi have fracture points and conflict points. Give this man more credit.
I think that more or less covers the things that I love about this book. If you love the EU Legends Continuity, I strongly recommend this whole series. There are more good and great books than there aren't, and the Yuuzhan Vong are such great antagonists.

His battle meditation vanished in an eruption of fear and anger, and he Force-leapt from his chair, doing a reverse flip over the seat back, his head passing so close beneath the upper bulkhead that his hair brushed durasteel.
Caedus came down three meters inside his day cabin, his lightsaber in hand and ignited, his gaze fixed on the still-secure hatch on the wall opposite. There were no Jedi inside the day cabin with him. Nor could he sense any coming through the corridor, creeping through the ventilation ducts overhead, or crawling through the mechanical tunnels beneath the deck.
But that didn’t mean they weren’t coming for him. If Caedus could hide his presence in the Force, so could the Masters—as Mara had demonstrated when she nearly killed him on Kavan.
A raspy voice sounded from Caedus’s left. “Has some furniture offended you?”
“Quiet!” Caedus glanced toward the voice and saw SD-XX, his Tendrando Arms security droid, stepping out of the hidden security station where he kept himself stowed. “They’re here.”
“Who?” The droid’s photoreceptors darkened as he switched scanning protocols. With thin armor and blue photoreceptors set in a black, skull-like face, he resembled a scaled-down version of a YVH battle droid. “I detect no living beings within thirty meters.”
“No?”
Caedus frowned. The presences of the Jedi were stronger than ever, distinct enough now that he could recognize many of them—Saba Sebatyne, Kyp Durron, Corran Horn, most of the Masters, along with Tesar, Lowbacca, and more Jedi Knights than he could name. Yet when he tried to get a sense of their location, they seemed to be everywhere and nowhere, as if they were inside his head—just as they might feel during a Jedi battle-meld.
The Jedi weren’t hunting him, he realized. They were reaching out to the Anakin Solo, inviting him to join their meld. As confused as he was relieved, Caedus deactivated his lightsaber.
“Stand down, Double-Ex,” he said. “They’re not here.”
SD-XX regarded Caedus with a cocked head. “Isn’t that what I just said? Perhaps it’s time you had yourself degaussed, Colonel. Your circuits are ghost-firing.”
“I said stand down.” Caedus hung the lightsaber back on his belt. “My circuits are fine.”
SD-XX continued to scrutinize him. “I’ll be the judge of that.”
Caedus pointed toward the droid’s hidden security station. “Go. That’s an order.”
SD-XX’s voice changed from merely domineering to menacing. “Acknowledged.”
The droid stalked to his compartment in utter silence and vanished back into the wall.
Caedus returned to his bubble, but made no attempt to resume his battle meditation. The technique—at least as Lumiya had taught it to him—was Sith, and he did not want to risk using it while what felt like half the Jedi Order was attempting to draw him into a meld. Instead, Caedus unmasked his presence and opened himself to their meld. It was full of half-familiar feelings, of purpose and commitment and hope, of inclusion and fellowship and warmth—none of it directed at him, of course. He was surprised how lonely the exclusion made him feel, and how much he missed the companionship of family and friends. He had thought himself above such sentimental trivialities. But of course, he was not, and never would be.

Madame Thul: "Something to drink?"
Tesar: "Yes, that would be good."
Madame Thul: "Endorian port? Bespin sparkle? Talhovian ale?"
Tesar: "Do you have nerf milk? Which planet doesn't matter."

Izal Waz followed, stepping over two bodies in the cofferdam and kicking another out of the way as he boarded the freighter. Tesar was slower to react, pulling the cloth away from his shoulder to reveal the smoking hole and scorched scales beneath.
Leia moved her chair forward. “Tesar, how bad?”
“Bad,” he growled. “My best robe.” He stuck a claw through the hole. “This really burnz me.”
Then, sissing with hilarity, he leapt through the hatch and followed his companions into the Star Roamer.

also i’m too worn out from the new jedi order to get actively upset about any jedi philosophies or new republic dumbassery but like. you’ve got the jedi kinda using the dark side ???? you’ve got the chiss and fucking HAPES sending fleets to deal with the killiks, who also have a fleet, and the new republic galactic alliance is doing NOTHING (though i think hapes is part of the GA though the chiss are not, but the hapan fleet is unsanctioned by whatever the ruling powers on coruscant are, sooo). oh and by the way? cal omas showed up and he kinda sucks now!!!
actually on second thought maybe i don’t like this book very much because the only main characters who i adore are the sebatynes (jaina’s a main character but she’s not acting very jaina-y so i don’t like it!!!) and there’s NO starfighter pilots who aren’t jedi, HARDLY ANY corran horn (he got left behind to be in charge of the jedi order), NO galactic alliance military supreme commander traest kre’fey, NO rogue leader gavin darklighter.... what is the point of this trilogy
also tesar is currently possessed by bugs (though more reasonable than everyone else possessed by bugs except jacen, who may not actually be possessed by bugs) and saba has her brains falling out!!! fun :(((

a ranking of all them eu jedi from best to worst
with like 500% personal bias plus a helping of acknowledgement that some of the lamer jedi are very very good, actually
also i am definitely forgetting some jedi but hopefully not any of the important ones. i am tired though so who knows
saba sebatyne. she’s a badass. she’s a LIZARD. she trains leia fucking organa. what more do you want.
jaina solo because like... jaina solo
TENEL KA DJO aka she is suuuper underutilized later down the line!!! in like everything post-yjk!!!! which is very very sad but she is the best
cilghal!!!!! she’s so nice but also if she’s pissed at u she will use the force to make u feel like u have to pee. which is very passive-aggressive and i love that
...does danni quee count as a jedi? because i LOVE danni quee and i would really have liked to see jedi danni quee but the dumb authors never leaned into her force sensitivity and :(
tesar sebatyne gets the honor of being the first man on this list because he’s so GOOD, saba raised him RIGHT
tahiri veila oh my GOD i have so many feelings about tahiri veila
tekli!!!!!!!!!!! almost entirely for darkmeld reasons but also shes cool!!! and a chadra-fan!!!! love those lil guys
lowbacca!!!!!! i like that wookiee
wookieepedia says that vestara khai counts as a “jedi trainee” according to their jedi trainees of the new jedi order category page and who am i to argue with wookieepedia. she was in my........... ok, top ten fotj characters, because she’s top ten here and DON’T make me narrow it down more than that
mara jade i like you
leia!!!! who is only this low because she’s more politician than jedi even when trying to be a jedi; if i was just doing a list of fave characters she’d be higher on it
tionne solusar!!!!!!!!! musician jedi heck yeah!
corran horn rip your higher status on this list which died in all your pre-dad years appearances. love u tho
oh my god i can’t believe i forgot about luke. i stand by putting corran above him so if everyone else is above corran then they are also above luke
octa ramis is pretty cool
BEN SKYWALKER why are you... you
kam solusar!!! tbh i don’t care for him much but he’s a good dad to all the jedi kids and for that i’m thankful
bela and krasov hara who NEVER got to be seen as individuals and im so upset about that but they are up here because a) barabels and b) right after bela died when krasov was using the force to animate her body and draw off the voxyn.... cared more about that than ANY anakin solo scene. i SAID what i SAID.
lusa rip lusa, killed offpage
valin horn! good kid
seha dorvald! like her
anakin solo died a BABY
does allana solo count as a jedi? she was baby liv’s fave because she was tiny too!!!! and had a pet nexu!!!! anji love u
ALEMA RAR DESERVED BETTER
bazel warv aka barv whom i remember adoring and also his name is barv and i just thought that was hilarious when i was a kid
jysella horn... i don’t remember her oh no!!!!!! this ranking will almost certainly change once i see her do things but alas
ganner rhysode :((((((((((( who should be higher due to. traitor. but i actively disliked him before traitor, sooo
ULAHA YOU AND THE REST OF THE STRIKE TEAM DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER
yaqeel saav’etu alright this one might be unfair but. she is a bothan. am inclined to like her however due to being bffs with corran’s kids though soooo might change
ugh jacen solo, ok. not even counting all the caedus stuff i never really liked him as much as jaina or even the rest of the yjk team except zekk
zekk. boo
kyle katarn.... look i don’t really know who this guy is but for the longest time i thought he was kyp and i have not yet had this disproven
kenth hamner... i will NEVER forgive what u did in fate of the jedi
AND THE VERY LAST PLACE IS AWARDED TO KYP DURRON!!!! HATE HIM!!!!!!! SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just picked up legacy of the force: betrayal to move to my room for motivation to read it even though i really shouldn’t be reading it because i have other newer books to read first and
hmm let’s break down this dramatis personae (they’re coming back in thrawn!!!) that i will undoubtedly break down again when i actually get around to reading the book
- ben skywalker: BABY BOY!!!! MY BABY BOY!!!!! ah i’m so glad to be in this era, honestly, because i love one (1) next-generation ben and THIS IS HIM (ok....... tros did do a thing but. ben skywalker. waaaay better than ben solo)
- cal omas......... bitch (? is he now? i think that’s what they do in this series. and possibly in dark nest but i don’t remember dark nest. was he supposed to be bad for appointing corran grand master?)
- cha niathal. now, that’s a name i haven’t heard in a long time. a long time. anyways happy for a woman mon calamari admiral!!! unhappy for fate of the jedi whatever and her ultimate fate which. REALLY STOOD OUT to young me. like... damn.
- it is here where gavin darklighter would be listed, and gavin darklighter is not listed, which greatly disappoints me
- oh yeah speaking of not being listed, no corran???? wtf
- blah blah blah we got some solos, jacen (oof), jaina (ooooof), and. yeah. solos.
- there is a bothan jedi named kolir hu’lya and she is NOT the bothan jedi i remember so she gonna dieeeee
- i saw “lysa” but thought it said “lusa” and. rip lusa
- there is a syal antilles here and i really hate that wedge named his daughter after his sister because it makes things really confusing?????? but i have to assume this is the daughter because the sister is a fel too
- SPEAKING OF FELS. where’s jag?????? where’s my boy???????
- F U C K I N G thrackan
- mmmm wheres tenel ka wheres tesar sebatyne wheres tekli WHY IS TAHIRI THE ONLY JEDI BEGINNING WITH T IN THIS BOOK
- ok that’s not true there’s a falleen (ugh) and an omwati (!!!) who both have names starting with t but where are my FAVES
- tycho!! tycho!!!!! tycho!!!!!!!!!!! tycho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- wedge!! wedge!!!!! wedge!!!!!!!!!!! wedge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- zekk :/
- OH SHIT NO KYP THIS IS GREAT
- the end
